Davetta Joyce Lester Looking
POPLAR - Davetta Joyce Lester Looking, 46, of Poplar, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at the Poplar Hospital, after a long illness.
Davetta was born April 8, 1953, in Poplar to David Lester and Margaret Snell Big Leggins. She attended schools in Poplar and Helena. Davetta was raised by her grandmother, the late Helen Brown.

In 1972, Davetta married Edwin Chaser and moved to Moline, Ill. When she returned home, she was employed at A & S Industries. Later in 1982, she was employed at the Poplar Hospital. In 1987, Davetta married Larry Looking of Wolf Point.

Davetta devoted all of her time to beading; she beaded hats, pens, barrettes, and many other things. She loved spending time with her friends and relatives.

She is survived by her children, Calvin Lester Sr. and Crystal Red Star of Poplar, Ronette Clincher, Verle Clincher, and Fontella Clincher of Laurel; her mother, Margaret Big Leggins of Poplar; five sisters, Valarie Hines and Rhonda Big Leggins of Wolf Point, Brenda Big Leggins and Veronica Big Leggins of Poplar, and Shannon Alden of Hardin; two brothers, Laval Big Leggins of Poplar and Curtis Big Leggins of Conrad; her aunts, Anne Lester, Edna Grey Hawk, Rosemary Morsette and Agnes Ward, all of Poplar; an uncle, Allen Lester of Poplar; two special cousins, Maxine Grey Bull and Sybil Grant of Poplar. Davetta had two grandchildren, Calvin F. Lester Jr. and Frederick J. Lester of Wolf Point, and many, many more numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Looking; her father, David Lester; grandmother, Helen Brown; aunt, Zelda Grant; a brother, Percy Lester; and a sister, Carla J. Big Leggins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Viewing will be on Monday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Prayer services will be on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment will be in St. Ann's cemetery in Poplar. Rev. Fr. Michael Schneider officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Anthony J. 'Tony' Burghardt
Tony Burghardt, 66, of Billings, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at the Deaconess Hospital as a result of cancer.
Memorial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 8th Street West. and St. John's Avenue. Cremation has been held. Memorials may given to charities of choice.

He was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Linton, N.D., to Wendelin and Eva Burghardt. He was educated in Linton and Billings, graduating from Senior High in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Tony married Lenora Surrena in Billings in 1962. Tony had worked as a carpet layer in the Billings area for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora; daughter, Susan (Bob) Botnen, and son, Rick (Liza) Strietmatter, all of Billings; two granddaughters, Tessa and Hayley; his mother, Eva Horning; four brothers, Al (Jeanie), Gene, John, Ken (Judy); and sister, Sally (Jerry) Cople. He was preceded in death by his father, Wendelin.

He will always be loved and missed by his family and friends.

Arrangements by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Mary E. Brost
CODY, Wyo. - Mary E. Brost, 77, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at West Park Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held at a later date. Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings was in charge.

Edna M. Walker
Edna M. Walker, 88, of Billings, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and at her request, there will be no memorial. Cremation or Funeral Gallery was in charge.

Matthew Richard Ross
BAKER - Matthew Richard Ross, 18, of Baker, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at his home of an accidental asphyxia. He was born on April 13, 1981, the son of Gerald and Sally Domstad Ross at Olympia, Wash. He attended grade school in Chehalis, Wash.
At the age of 11 he moved with his parents to Baker where he attended both the Longfellow School and Baker High School. He was very proud to be with the Class of 2000. From an early age Matt enjoyed playing football, basketball, wrestling, track and band. He was also very active in the weight lifting program in the high school. Matt's interests included his car, music and friends.

Most all his love was for his family. The last several summers, Matt worked with his father, Gary, at Ross Management. He also enjoyed playing practical jokes and having fun.

Survivors include his parents, Gary and Sal Ross of Baker; five brothers, Dan Ross of Chehalis, Curt (Marge) Ross of Baker, Tom (Elaine) Ross of Olympia, Larry (Kim) Ross of Centralia, Wash., and Bob (Terri) Ross of Chehalis; three sisters: Karen (Jim) Wickey of Omaha, Neb., Lisa (Robert) Sharp of Kenosha, Wis., and Connie Stalker of Panama City, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Baker Assembly of God Church. Burial will be on Wednesday, Aug. 4, in Colman, S.D. Stevenson's Funeral Home of Baker is in charge of the arrangements.

Russell J. Wainscott
BYRON, Wyo. - Russell J. Wainscott, 82, of Byron, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the Byron cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.

Nadiene Faye Lindsay
LOVELL, Wyo. - Nadiene Faye Lindsay, 62, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at New Horizons Care Center.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, in the Lovell L.D.S. Stake Center with interment in the Lovell cemetery.

Jeannette Mary Payer
FORSYTH - Jeannette Mary Payer, age 80, of Forsyth, passed away July 29, 1999, in Billings. Born Feb. 11, 1919, in Boulder, to John Giulio Sr. and Jenny Olifena Hansen Giulio, Jeannette was raised in Comet and educated in Basin and Boulder. Jeannette married Jackson J. Payer Sr., Dec. 27, 1948, in Helena.
Jeannette and Jackson traveled a great deal and lived in many Western states; they have made their home in Forsyth for the past 16 years. Jeannette was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Sept. 27, 1942, in Great Falls and has been a zealous proclaimer of God's Kingdom ever since. Jeannette was loved by her family and friends for her wit and sense of humor. Jeannette was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker and cherished her family and friends.

Jeannette was survived by her husband: Jackson J. Payer Sr. of Forsyth; son, Jackson J. Jr. and wife, Nicki Payer of Forsyth; daughters, Marian Jenkins of Ely, Nev., Pam and husband, Tim Slough of Oregon City, Ore.; stepdaughter, Norma Jean and husband, Larry McKee of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Harold John Giulio of Butte, John Giulio Jr. of Boulder and Gordon Elmer Giulio of Boulder; sister, Betty Ann Bowser of Beaver, Penn.; grandchildren, Kirk Knisley of St. Charles, Mo., Dale Jenkins of Ventura, Calif., Ron Jenkins Jr. of Ely, Julie Jenkins of Needles, Calif., Kim Jenkins of Destin, Fla., Heather Bell, Brandy Slough, Joshua Slough, Colton Slough, all of Oregon City, Ore., Jackson J. Payer III (Jeremy) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Joel McKee, Nicolette McKee, both of Salt Lake City, Serena Hanks of Portland, Ore., Bethany McKee, Ryan McKee, both of Salt Lake City. Jeannette had 16 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces who she loved. Jeannette was preceded in death by her grandson, Rick Jenkins. Jeannette will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 700 Main St., Forsyth, Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at 4 p.m. A private internment will be at a later date.

Cecil Charles Dyckman
NEWPORT, Wash. - Cecil Charles Dyckman, 86, of Newport and formerly of Lame Deer, Mont., died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at the Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.
A memorial inurnment of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Hardin cemetery, Hardin, Mont. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home was in charge.

Raymond Evinrude
GLENDIVE - Raymond Evinrude, age 79, of Glendive, died on Thursday, July 29, 1999, at the Eastern Montana Veterans Nursing Home in Glendive.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Pastor Paul Everett officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Dawson County cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.

Raymond was born on June 1, 1920, in Glendive, the son of Anton and Marite (Larson) Evinrude. He attended rural Dawson County school, Richey School, Glendive elementary school and graduated from Dawson County High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in October of 1941, serving during World War II. Following his discharge in September of 1945, he returned to Glendive where he worked for seven years as a mechanic for Hilger Chevrolet. On Feb. 28, 1946, Raymond married Helen Geiger. They have made their home in Glendive since that time. Ray was employed as a mechanic for the Highway Department for over 30 years, retiring on July 30, 1978.

Raymond was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Glendive; three sons, Russell L. Evinrude of Glendive, Darrell D. Evinrude of Glendive and Dean R. Evinrude; two brothers, Elwin Evinrude of Manitowish Waters, Wis., and William Evinrude of Anniston, Ala.; one sister, Ingeborg Marks of West Allis, Wis.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Albert and Russell.

Ara 'Toppie' Belcher
RED LODGE - Ara "Toppie" Wallace Belcher, 99, of Red Lodge, died Monday morning, Aug. 30, 1999, in Cedar Wood Villa.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1900, in Erath County, Texas. Toppie and her husband, George W. Belcher, had been engaged in many business ventures in Texas prior to his death in 1977. She attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas, and taught school for several years.
Until the past five years she had led a very active life. She had been a Southern Baptist all her life.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Zack and Mary Belcher of Billings; her granddaughter, Lela Nickel of Taos, N.M.; and two great-granddaughters, Katherine and Samantha Nickel.
Services and burial will be held in Stephenville. A local memorial service will be held at a later date. Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society, 2116 Broadwater Ave., Suite 200, Billings, MT 59102.

Preston Harrington Boggs
WORLAND, Wyo. - Funeral services for Preston (Bubba) Harrington Boggs, age 8, who died in an auto accident on July 24, 1999, just north of Riverton, will be Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at 3 p.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with Father Tom Johnson of Casper officiating and Father Daniel Crawford assisting. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Preston, the beautiful son of William (Biff) and Laurie Hoggs was born in Sandy, Utah, on June 25, 1991, where he was raised in a wonderful loving neighborhood and the light of every life he touched. Preston continued spreading his beaming smile and love when they recently moved to Worland. He is now in the loving arms of the Lord and his Grandmother Nell.
Preston enjoyed the outdoors, camping, reading, sports and meeting new people. He had a love of life and was never ever shy. Preston had a unique relationship with his parents, they did everything together. Preston is the love of his parent's life, their greatest joy, and their precious son.
Preston was a miracle baby to all who loved him and will be a shining angel with all of God's people forever.
Survivors include: his parents, William and Laurie Boggs; grandparents, Bill and Nanci Harringion (Worland); grandmother, Dolores Boggs (Ohio) and grandfather, Bill Schieman (Utah); his aunts and uncles, Cindy and Mark Dennon, Sherrie Broadhead, Bill Harrington, Holly and Mike Soter (Utah), Marisa Parson (Ohio), Kathy and Tim Lemoine (Michigan), David Moon (Alaska) and John and Tameria Harrington (Arizona); great-aunts and uncles, Marianne and Bill Campbell (Ohio), Mary Ann and Claude Smith (Minnesota); and great-grandmother, Kathryn Sporka (Pennsylvania); plus many cousins and special friends.
The family of Preston Boggs would like to thank everyone for their prayers, concerns, sympathy and financial support during this tragic time.

Magdaline Crooked Arm
CROW AGENCY - Magdaline Faith Little Nest Crooked Arm, 34, of Crow Agency, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 1999.
She was born Nov. 23, 1964, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Patrick and Gloria Horse Little Nest. She was raised in the Dunmore area by Lois Jefferson, Violet Wolf Black, Susie and Thomas Morrison. She attended schools in Crow Agency, Busby, Hardin, Oregon and Utah.
Magdaline married Pius Paul Crooked Arm in Crow Agency in 1997. She was a member of the Montana Horse Racing Association and her horse was a recent winner in the Classic Race at the 1999 Crow Fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two adopted daughters and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Pius; two sisters, Pearlene Little Nest of Rosebud and Susan Little Nest of Red Lodge; two brothers, Bernard Little Nest of Wyoming and James Kills on Top Jr. of Crow Agency; three adopted daughters, Nova Crooked Arm of Hays, Loretta Wolf Black and Darling Bull Tail of Crow Agency; three adopted sons, Ronald LaForge Jr. of Billings, Dunn Little Light and Theo Bull Tail of Crow Agency. She is also survived by numerous adopted brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Mayme N. Embretson
Mayme N. Embretson, beloved Mother and wonderful person, passed away at her home on Aug. 29, 1999. She had courageously accepted the limitations caused by a stroke in 1992 and continued to live her life to the fullest.
Mayme was born on March 15, 1910, in Sacred Heart, Minn., to Nels and Ingrid Nesteby. After the loss of her Mother, she was adopted by Bertha and Knudt Embretson. She married Aden Embretson in 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Alden Wayne. Mayme and Aden moved to Montana from Iowa in 1952 where she remained until the time of her death.
She worked for a number of years for Cole's Department Store, retiring in 1972. After retirement she became a Red Cross Gray Lady and served 2, 538 volunteer hours at Deaconess Hospital. After open heart surgery in 1978, she joined the Mended Hearts Association and served as a visitor to patients undergoing heart surgery. Her indomitable spirit and will to live, in spite of numerous surgeries, made her an inspiration to all who knew her.
She enjoyed golf, fishing (she always caught the most), playing cards with her friends, gardening, ceramics, needlework and reading until the partial loss of her eyesight. This did not stop her from following her beloved Chicago Cubs baseball team - win or lose. She enjoyed her daughter's horses and the many cats and dogs which were a part of the family.
Mayme is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Embretson; one sister, Inga Baker of Waterloo, Iowa; and one brother, Elmer Nesteby of Lucan, Minn.; and numerous friends, including her longtime caregivers, Peggy Franklin and Diane Schwenk.
Please join in a celebration of Mayme's life on Thursday, 10 a.m. at Smith Downtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Lutheran Church, Billings. Cremation has taken place.

M. Maudine Gregg
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - M. Maudine (Boyd) Gregg, 73, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Viewing will be all day Tuesday, Aug. 31, until 5:30 p.m. at Ferries Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment in the Sheridan Elks cemetery.

Cleone W. Halvorsen
Cleone W. Halvorsen, age 87, of Billings, passed away Saturday the 28th at St. Vincent Hospital. Cleone is the wife of Wilfred C. Halvorsen. A private interment will take place at Terrace Gardens cemetery.

Ruth Eva Hines
CODY, Wyo. - Ruth Eva Hines, 67, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at West Park Hospital Emergency Room.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1719 Wyoming Ave. Cremation has taken place. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Agnes Irene Kehler
Agnes Irene Kehler, 89, of Billings died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Home. Born Dec. 17, 1909, in Lankin, N.D., Agnes was the daughter of Frank and Annie (Dvorak) Dobias.
Agnes is survived by her son, Donald E. Fraley; grandson, Mark L. Fraley; granddaughter, Brenda L. and her husband, Troy Nearpass; four great-grandchildren, Shawn and Candace Fraley, Britney and Brooke Nearpass, all of Billings; three brothers, Bob Dobias of Billings, Chuck Dobias of Lavina and Bill Dobias of Cartwright, N.D.; and by special friend, Betty Fraley who cared for Agnes for many years.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; one sister and eight brothers.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Mountview cemetery. Arrangements by Dahl Funeral Chapel.

Darlyne Koozer
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Darlyne Koozer, 73, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance, Neb. Ferries Funeral Home is also in charge.
