Henry Cushing
GAINESVILLE, Va. - Henry "Hank" Cushing, a custom home builder with MQC Homes, passed away on July 10 at his home in Gainesville.
Hank was born in Billings, on Oct. 17, 1941, the son of Ralph and Catherine Cushing. His father was one of the founders of CTA Architects and Engineers. Hank graduated from Billings Senior High School and from the University of Montana. He joined the Peace Corp. and served two years in Kenya. He then moved to Australia and helped develop the American Pavilion at Sydney's International Trade Fair.
Returning to the United States in 1968 he helped with the San Antonio, Texas, Hemisfair, which resulted in the creation of the famous San Antonio River Walk. Shortly after the Hemisfair, Mr. Cushing moved to Washington, D.C., and began a career in the construction industry, first working for Yeonas Company and later Ward Inc. After a two-year hiatus sailing in the Caribbean, Mr. Cushing joined with two friends to form Triangle Development Inc.
Triangle Development Inc. built homes in the Washington Metro area for many years and acquired numerous building awards. Mr. Cushing was a member of the National Builders Association and the American Arbitration Association.
In 1993 Mr. Cushing and his wife formed MQC Homes Inc. Together they built custom luxury homes in northern Virginia, including the "Southern Living" Magazine Design Home of 1996 in Lake Manassas.
Mr. Cushing leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Mary Qualls-Cushing; three stepchildren, James Qualls, Jeff Qualls and Julie Pollack; one son-in-law, James Pollack; one granddaughter, Arielle Pollack; a brother, Lorenzo Cushing; and a sister, Helen Jenni.
Henry Cushing's extraordinary life will be celebrated with friends and family at 2 p.m. at the Hilands Golf Club in Billings on July 25, 1999.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Nature Conservancy of Montana, 32 S. Ewing, Helena, Mont. 59601 (designated to Henry Cushing Memorial-Eastern Montana).
Thomas R. Daugherty Sr.
Thomas R. Daugherty Sr., 74, of rural Billings, passed away Saturday, July 17, 1999, at his home of esophageal cancer.
He was born June 6, 1925, at Belfry, a son of Gilbert Ray and Beulah May Phillips Daugherty. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was married
to Audrey Frost at Belfry in 1948. Tom worked all of his life in the building construction industry. He was a member of the Monad Ward of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; children and their spouses: Thomas Jr. (Cookie) of Vero Beach, Fla.; Patrick (Kathy) of Billings; Margaret Neal (Jack) of Ulm, Mont., and Jackson, Wyo.; Michael (Sheila) of Billings; sisters: Dolores Fraker (Mick) of Billings; June May (Dick) of Billings; brother: Roy Daugherty (Sandi) of Douglas, Wyo.: four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the Belfry Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with interment in the Belfry cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Memorials: Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107.
Jake Elmer Elliott
BASIN, Wyo. - Jake Elmer Elliott, 41, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Worland.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Atwood Family Funeral Home, and 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church with interment in the Mount View cemetery.
Ellen I. Hicks
RICHLAND, Wash. - Ellen I. Hicks, 87, of Richland, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, in Richland. She was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Crookston, Neb., and had lived in the Tri-Cities 13 years.
Mrs. Hicks worked for School District No. 2 in Billings until retiring. She was a member of Central United Protestant Church and Kadlec Medical Center Auxiliary, both in Richland.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Lynn Libke of Richland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Marie Gamber of Oakland, Calif., Clare L. Jr. and Barbara Hicks of Billings; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Clare L. Hicks Sr. in April 1954.
At the family's request there will be no formal services.
Rhienhart Hofferber
Rhienhart Hofferber, 82 of Billings, passed away Sunday evening, July 18, at the St. Vincent Hospital.
Rhienhart was born in Worden, Nov. 20, 1916, to parents, George and Katherine (Lease) Hofferber. He attended school in the Guernsey School on the Huntley Project. In February 1936, he married
Anna Phaff. Anna passed away Dec. 11, 1977.
On April 29, 1981, he married
Rachel Nafts Karst. They enjoyed life together fishing, camping and traveling.
Survivors are his wife, Rachel; his daughter, Elaine Perko of Tucson, Ariz.; and son, Ronald Hofferber of Casper, Wyo. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Perko, Joe Perko and Ann Cornell and four great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Allan Karst and Kenneth Karst; two stepdaughters, Joyce Kunz and Nancy Davis; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.
Rhienhart worked for Pierce Meat Packing plant for 41 years.
He was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church and the Retired Senior Volunteers.
He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity - and his love for His Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 406 S. 36th. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials to the Pilgrim Congregational Church.
Bruce Bembrick Huntley
POWELL, Wyo. - Bruce Bembrick Huntley died peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 1999, at the Powell Nursing Home. He was 95 years old.
He was born March 21, 1904, in Toston, Mont., to Elizabeth Alice and G. Arthur Huntley. He attended schools in the Toston and Helena, Mont., area. In 1923 and 1924 he drove Park tour buses in Yellowstone National Park. As a young man he worked for various automobile dealerships in Billings.
In 1933 he married
Margaret Lea Prickett. They made their home in Billings until 1945 when he and Don McClelland purchased the Ford dealership in Powell. In 1956 he sold out his interest in the dealership and worked as a bookkeeper for O.E.Bever and Sons until his retirement.
He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed hunting pheasants. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church and a Master Mason of Absaroka Lodge No. 30.
In later years he and his wife enjoyed vacationing with his daughter, Peg, and her family on Flathead Lake in Montana.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of 65 years; daughters, Bobbie Stutzman (John) and Peg Ostlund of Billings; grandchildren: Kim Stutzman Engwall, East Lynne, Conn.; Tod Stutzman, Powell; Sydney Stutzman Rademacher, Seattle, Wash.: Brett Stutzman, Powell; Scott Ostlund, Billings; Amy Ostlund Wachholz, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was a very loving and generous father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Union Presbyterian Church.

Milo Ward Jackson
JORDAN - Milo Ward Jackson, 66, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with interment in the Steve's Fork cemetery.
Mary R. Kaiser
CODY, Wyo. - Mary R. Kaiser, age 97, of Cody, formerly of Worland, passed away Friday, July 16, 1999, at West Park Long Tern Care Center in Cody.
She is survived by four children: Myrna Rodgers of Cody; Dale Kaiser of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Glen Kaiser of Denver; and Lola Halseth of Coon Rapids, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
A vigil service for Mrs. Kaiser will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cody. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at St. Anthony's. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Worland, Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Adolph F. Paulus
ROUNDUP - Adolph Frank Paulus, 90, of Roundup, passed away at the Roundup Memorial Nursing Home on Sunday, July 18, 1999.
He was born to Frank and Mary (Vesely) Paulus on May 19, 1909, in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Adolph came to Montana in 1940 and married
Viola Carlson in 1942, and from this union two sons were born. Adolph worked in the coal mines in Roundup.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his two sons, Bob in May of 1993 and Gene in February of 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Viola of Roundup; sisters, Beatrice Howard, Georgia Schultz, Lorraine Livingston, Irene Dodge, Martha Romportl, and Helen Gargulak, all of Rice Lake, Wis.; his sisters-in-law, Myva Smith and Marcie Paulus; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21, 1999, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wier Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999, at the New Miners cemetery. Memorials can be made to Roundup EMT's or the charity of one's choice. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Genevieve Peterson
POWELL, Wyo. - Genevieve Cozzens Peterson, 81, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in the Byron L.D.S. Chapel, Byron, with interment in the Byron cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.
Walter L. 'Walt' Pierce
Oct. 28, 1934 - July 15, 1999
BRYAN, Texas - Services for Walter L. "Walt" Pierce, 64, of Bryan, were held Monday at Southwood Funeral Home Chapel in College Station. The Rev. Ronald Runyon of Central Christian Church officiated. Burial was in the College Station cemetery.
Mr. Pierce died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
He was born in Billings and was a general manager of Navasota Valley Rural Electric Co-op. He was a past board secretary of San Miguel Electric Generation and Transmission Co-op of Pleasanton and was a board member of the Brazos Valley Electric Generation and Transmission Co-op in Waco. He was a member and served as a deacon for Central Christian Church. He also volunteered service for the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Pierce of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jimi Wilkinson of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, William Pierce of Pompeys Pillar, Mont.; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorelei and Doyle Saxby of College Place, Wash.; and a granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Central Christian Church Building Fund.
Marge Roland
LIVINGSTON - Marge Roland, 95, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Evergreen Bozeman Health and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home with interment in Mountain View cemetery.
Daniel H. Taylor
Daniel H. Taylor, 77, of Billings passed away Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Parkview Care Center in Billings. He was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Berg, N.D., to Howard Francis and Virginia Evelyn Wolfe Taylor. He was employed as a truck driver hauling oil and gas for Johnson Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Becky Connors of Lavina, Rosemary McGee of Helena, and Heneretta Dobbins of Anaconda; two stepchildren, Joyce Young of Billings and Ronald Kobleske of Aurora, Colo.; and sister, Mae Woodfield of Oregon.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountview cemetery. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery and Cremation Society of Montana.

NEWBERG, Ore. - Alyce Lorene Williams, 75, formerly of Billings, Mont., died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at her home.
