John Oliver Eastman
GLASGOW - John Oliver Eastman, 74, born Feb. 3, 1925, in Richey, passed away Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, of cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Bell Chapel in Glasgow with the Rev. Keith McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Highland cemetery in Glasgow.

Born on the family farm to Henry and Myrtle Glenn Eastman in Richey, he moved with his family to Park Grove in 1934 and later to Nashua in 1938. John went into the Army at Camp Maxie Texas in March of 1943. He served during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 in England, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Austria, Germany, and Central Rhineland. He was discharged from Camp McCoy, Wis., on March 29, 1946. John married Maggie Beck in Glasgow on Aug. 14, 1947. He worked construction in Fort Peck during the Dam Days before going to work in the Glasgow Post Office in Oct. of 1951. He was appointed Military Branch Superintendent at Glasgow Air Force Base in 1967, and promoted to Superintendent of Mails in 1971. He was then accepted to the Postmasters position in Glasgow in November of 1973 and he retired from that position on March 21, 1980. Maggie passed away Feb. 12, 1978. John married Ann Allard on June 4, 1986, in Great Falls. John was president and life member of the local Chapter 2057 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a life member of the VFW, as well as in earlier years being a Hunter Safety Instructor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and processing his own wild game. Memorials are suggested to the Nonprofit organizations of Montana Low Vision Services, 923 Broadwater Sq., Billings, MT 59102, the American Cancer Society, or any charity of your choice.

We love you dad, and will miss you.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Eastman of Glasgow; a son George and wife Joey of Glasgow; four daughters, Bonnie Kemp and Robert of Glasgow, Sharon Miller and Morris of Great Falls, Susan Schultz and Richard of Columbus, and Geneva Eastman of Columbus; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Monica Candee of Isaquah, Wash., Geneva Kinniburgh of Kalispell, Beatrice Rodman of Stayton, Ore., Patricia Hartle (Roy) of Sidney, and Adeline Garden of Vancouver, Wash.; four brothers, Fred Eastman (Alyce) of Somers, Herb Eastman (Joan) of Libby, Emmery Eastman (Edith) of Clinton, Ark., and Marion Eastman of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his wife Maggie, sisters Lucinda and Lois and brothers Walt and Tom.

Bruce Dunn
SIDNEY - Mass of Christian Burial for Bruce Dunn, 49, Sidney, is 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Sidney, with Father Greg Staudinger presiding. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 20, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Wake services are at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Sidney. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park, Sidney, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Bruce Victor Dunn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend was born July 29, 1949, to Charles and Thea (Elletson) Dunn in Williston, N.D.

Bruce attended schools in Fairview and graduated in 1967. Bruce served in the United States Navy for two years and then returned to Fairview. He was united in marriage to Sheryl Hoppe on June 24, 1978. They made their home in Fairview. They had four children, Jeremy, Justin, Joshua and Tiffany. Bruce was employed for many years at the Mon-Dak Farmers Elevator. In 1992, he was involved in a work-related accident.

Bruce was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 114. Bruce loved his family and enjoyed many activities with them, including Minnesota Vikings football, fishing, and coaching his daughter Tiffany's softball team.

Bruce will be remembered as a kind, quiet and giving man. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Bruce died at his home in Sidney, Thursday, March 18, 1999, after a long, hard fight with cancer, surrounded by his wife, children and family.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Sheryl; three children, Jeremy, Minneapolis, Justin of Sidney, and Tiffany of the family home; one granddaughter, Kyarra, Sidney; three sisters, Charmayne Owan, Williston, N.D., Sharon Pfeiffer, Helena, Denise Rossol, Sidney; one brother, Dennis Dunn, Grand Forks, N.D.; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and his faithful companion - Cera.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; infant son, Joshua; and sister-in-law, Susie.

Mary Frickel Kraft
LAUREL - Mary Frickel Kraft, 79, of Laurel, passed away Friday, March 19, 1999, due to congestive heart failure at Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
Mary was born Nov. 15, 1919, west of Laurel in Yellowstone County, a daughter of David and Elizabeth Reil Frickel. She married William "Bill" Kraft, Oct. 23, 1944, at Red Lodge. They farmed west of Billings for many years, until her husband's death in 1968. Mary then moved to Laurel where she worked at the Laurel High School as custodian for 12 years, retiring at the age of 62. Mary then resided with her daughter Cindy until the Lord called her home. She passed away quietly in her sleep. Mary was greatly devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Kraft; two daughters, Judy Swan and Sandy Kraft; two sisters, Betty Pease and Lydia Brester; and three brothers, Adolph, Jim and Tom Frickel.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Burns and her husband, Gene of Laurel; Susy Grice and her husband, Herb of Billings; son-in-law, Ervin Swan of Laurel; grandchildren, David "Bubba" and Keith Burns, Brian and Willie Grice; brothers, Harold, Bill, Ruben, and Dave Frickel; and one sister, Sally Dawes, all of Laurel.

Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, embroidering and her grandchildren most of all. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Laurel and Ladies Eagles Auxiliary.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, 506 S.W. Fifth, Laurel. Interment will be in Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Carl W. Schmittou
SCRANTON, N.D. - Carl W. Schmittou, 85, Scranton, died Thursday morning, March 18, 1999, at the Sunset Care Corporation, Bowman, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday morning, March 22, at 10 a.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church, Bowman. Pastor Harvey Jeffers will officiate with burial to follow the service in Peace Lutheran cemetery, Scranton. A family service will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
Carl Schmittou was born Aug. 11, 1913, at Memphis, Tenn., the oldest son of Rye and Maggie (Pentecost) Schmittou. He came to the Snowy Mountains near Ryegate, Mont., in 1917, at the age of 4 years, where his father homesteaded. He attended school at Ryegate and graduated from Lavina High School in 1931. He worked for a rancher and later trucked for his dad before being hired by the Milwaukee Railroad as a section laborer in 1935.

Carl married Lucille Candler on Nov. 4, 1936, in Roundup, Mont. Carl and Lucille lived in various places in Montana and moved to Scranton in 1962 where Carl was section foreman and later assistant roadmaster for the Milwaukee Railroad. Carl retired from the railroad in 1978 after 43 years of service.

Carl was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Scranton, Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way, and the Eagles Lodge. Carl enjoyed cutting wood and coin collecting as hobbies. He dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He held a special place in his heart for Lexi, his only great-grandchild. He had a good sense of humor and was a very kind gentleman, always tipping his hat to the ladies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and one grandson, Dennis Kline.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Schmittou, Prairie Home in Bowman; one son and daughter-in-law: David and Jean Schmittou of Billings; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Zane Kline of Scranton, Gayle and Mark Perkins of Scranton; two sisters: Dollie Solberg of Powell, Wyo., Ruthe Ring of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Paul Schmittou of Billings; seven grandchildren: Stacey and Tracy Schmittou, Steve Kline, Wade and Jana Kline, Ryan Kline, Kelly and Kathy Perkins; and one great-granddaughter: Alexis Kline.

Pallbearers are: David Schmittou, Zane Kline, Mark Perkins, Steve Kline, Wade Kline and Ryan Kline. Honorary pallbearers: friends and neighbors. Organist: Gayle Perkins. Special music: Kelly and Kathy Perkins.

Krebsbach Funeral Service of Bowman is in charge of the arrangements.

Beatrice Rowland Tuske
LAME DEER - Beatrice Rowland Tuske, 79, of Lame Deer, passed away at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City on March 16, 1999, due to Congestive Heart Failure. She just went to sleep, very peacefully. She will be buried near her birthplace in a traditional Cheyenne funeral.
On June 16, 1919, a baby girl was born at a bend in the Tongue River near "Birney Village" in Birney, the daughter of Anne Chubby and Miles Horn. She grew up to exemplify the Native American Woman and had a profound impact on many of our lives.

Beatrice Irma (Hoo'ohta'e or Corn Woman) married Claude Oscar Rowland in 1937; they had seven children. She is survived by her sons and daughters who are: Pearl Rowland of Lame Deer; James Rowland of Lame Deer; Ted Rowland of Kyle, S.D., Claudia DeRoin of Hominy, Okla.; Jocelyn Rowland of Colstrip; Dr. Anna Rowland of Lame Deer; and Dr. Frank Rowland of Lakewood, Colo. She was widowed in 1962 after being married for 25 years. She married again in 1964 and was widowed in 1990.

Other survivors include sisters, Margaret Nason and Rose Adam of Spokane, Wash., and a brother, Harold Horn, also of Spokane. Beatrice had many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who miss her very deeply; only time will heal. She also claimed half-brothers and sisters of the Pat Spotted Wolf family.

A private family service was held Thursday, March 18. The traditional Cheyenne funeral will be conducted on Friday, March 19, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Birney Community Hall.

Richard Jonas
LINDSAY - Richard Jonas, age 60, of Lindsay, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.

Richard was born on March 22, 1938, in Seattle, Wash., the son of Romeo and Edna (Cress) Jonas. As an infant, he moved with his family to the Glendive area. He was raised and educated in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School. On Sept. 14, 1957, he married Janet Skillestad in Glendive. Richard had worked for Federated, Degel Oil and Joe's Pipe Service. Richard's passion in life was farming and ranching. In 1959 he started farming and ranching full-time in the Pleasantview area and continued this love until the time of his death. Richard also enjoyed raising cattle and horses.

Richard was a member of the Glendive Elks Lodge No. 1324, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 949, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, auction sales and traveling.

Survivors include five daughters, Dona Engle and her husband, Dave of Glendive, Shelley Harrison and her husband, Dan of Glendive, LaRae Letzelter and her husband, Dave of Warrensburg, N.Y., Carol Wolff and her husband, Mike of Lindsay, and Lynn Ingraham and her husband, Gary of Glendive; one brother, Don Jonas and his wife, Judy of Everett, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Brielle, Stevie and Bradley Harrison, Darcy and Dani Engle, and Kyle Letzelter; and one great-grandson, Brandt Jacob; his close companion, Wanda Crawford of Lindsay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly J. Johnson
LAUREL - Beverly J. Johnson, 74 of Laurel, formerly of Billings, passed away Wednesday morning, March 17, 1999, at her home. The daughter of Arthur and Josephine (Qualley) Angell, she was born on Oct. 17, 1924, in Carlton, Minn.
On May 26, 1946, Beverly married Reuben O. Johnson in Poplar. Beverly worked many years as a kindergarten teacher before going to work as a telephone operator for AT&T. She worked for AT&T 15 years and retired in 1988. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Poplar and the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Billings.

Survivors include her husband, Reuben of Laurel; her two children, Sonja Jean (Houston) Johnson of Tulia, Texas, and Bruce R. Johnson of Billings; her grandchildren, Heather Dawn Johnson of San Antonio, Texas, Curry R. Lemons and Russell R. Lemons of Tulia; her sister, Evelyn A. Coil of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gillrock and Willard Angell.

Visitation will be held 12 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1108 24th St. W. in Billings. Additional funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Brockton, with interment in the Riverview cemetery. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist of Billings and Clayton Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point have charge of arrangements.

Leslie Johns Langeliers
ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. - Leslie Johns Langeliers, 81, passed away March 15, 1999, in Arizona City. He was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Emmons County, N.D., and moved to Arizona in 1976 from Montana. We knew him by his smile and by the smiles he so easily brought to our faces. Laughter is contagious, and Les was always "infecting" others with his quick wit and zest for life.
He was a loving husband, a fantastic father, and a caring friend to many. Les enjoyed nature, fishing and camping, all of which were high on his list. After retiring to Arizona, golf became his passion. Many great friendships began and flourished on the fairways and greens (and occasionally in the rough).

Super Bowl Sunday was a special occasion. The four Langeliers brothers and families gathered for a great dinner, football and non-stop laughter.

Les found joy every day and his conversations were filled with wonderful stories of the family and friends he was so pleased to share his life with; it would honor him for us to continue that example.

Survivors include his wife, Irene L. Langeliers; daughters, Kathleen Larson and Carol F. Flattum; sons, John L. Langeliers and Larry R. Brunmeier; brothers, Mark B., Norman C., and Duane Langeliers; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, at First Baptist Church of Arizona City, Sunland Gin Road, Arizona. Donations may be made to RTA Hospice, 1102 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006 or the First Baptist Church Children's Fund.

Antonio P. Garcia
Antonio P. "Tony" Garcia, born Nov. 9, 1925, died March 16, 1999, son of Tiburcio and Camelina Garcia. Survivors include his brothers, Nick Garcia and wife, Gail of Washington, Claudio Garcia and wife, Marlene of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters, Mary and Lawrence Ronquillo of Billings, Beatrice and George Calzadillias of Othello, Wash.; 16 nephews, 19 nieces, and Tossie, his favorite niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Laurence; and sisters, Susie and Mickey; and nephews and nieces.

Tony attended Huntley Project school and served in WWII 101st Airborne. He then worked for N.P. Railroad 40 years.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jubilee Christian Center, 3611 Hwy. 312, Billings. Burial will be in be Huntley cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the Robin and Steve Nava residence, 362 Jefferson.

Annetta May Bohannon
Funeral services for Anne (Barney, Keele) Bohannon will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will be in the Red Lodge cemetery, Red Lodge, at 1 p.m.

Gladys A. Lantz
CODY, Wyo. - Gladys A. Lantz, 88, formerly of Bridger, Mont., died Monday, March 15, in Cody.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1910, to Arthur and Elnora (Clark) Hunter. On June 6, 1932, she married Jerome Lantz. Mom was born, raised, married , and raised all her children in the Bridger area.

Gladys attended schools in Belfry and Bridger, graduating from Bridger High School. Her loyalties were torn between the two schools, especially at Bridger-Belfry ball games.

Mom and dad raised their four children on the farm between Belfry and Bridger: LeRoy Lantz in Washington, Calvin (Bonnie) Lantz of Helena, Ilean (Gene) Koch of Malta, and Patty (Albert) Nielsen of Cody.

Mom loved playing cards with her friends, growing flowers, crocheting, and camping and fishing in Sunlight Basin. Above all, she loved her family.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years in 1984; an infant son, Gary; two grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her children, 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bridger. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the Church. Interment will be in the Bridger cemetery, with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Spirit Mountain Hospice of Cody, Wyo., or to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
