Marilyn Berg Ferguson
BUSBY - Marilyn Berg Ferguson, 51, passed away Feb. 11, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
She was born January 31, 1948, at Havre to Marvin and Margaret Berg. She was raised and educated in Bozeman. Following high school, Marilyn attended MSU at Bozeman and then graduated from beauty school in Bozeman. She married
Dwight S. (Scotty) Ferguson on June 28, 1968. They resided on the family ranch in the Kirby area. Marilyn operated a beauty shop out of her home, was active in ranch and community activities and worked at Spring Creek Coal for 15 years.
Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Karsten Durbin of Edmonds, Wash.; two sons: Ian G. Ferguson of Busby and Chad B. Ferguson of Hugo, Okla., and two grandchildren. Marilyn is also survived by her parents, Marvin and Margaret Berg of Bozeman and one sister, Debbie Shearman of Bozeman. She was preceded in death by her brother John.
Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Sheridan, Wyo., with the Rev. David L. Duprey officiating.

William D. Runnalls
WORLAND, Wyo. - William D. "Bill" Runnalls died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings from complications of a stroke. He was born on June 2, 1927, at Rawlins, the son of John and Olga Vickman. His mother died when he was 11 days old. He and his twin brother were adopted when they were six weeks old by Alfred and Willa Runnalls from the Wyoming Children's Home in Cheyenne.
He attended public school in Frannie and Greybull and graduated from Greybull High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry at the end of World War II and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1946. He attended the University of Wyoming and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. He was married
to Barbara Wilkinson in Greybull on August 23, 1948, and they had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. To this union were born three sons; Jon, Scott, and Mark.
Bill was a Past Commander of the American Legion in Greybull. He loved to fish and hunt and travel with his wife in their motor home. He was known for his shadow cut arts in woodworking. He had worked at the Texas Gulf Sulphur Plant, MDU, and UnoCal; retiring from UnoCal at Worland in 1992.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a younger sister, Dolly Runnalls. He is survived by his wife Barbara "Babs" of Worland; sons Jon (Kate) of Helena, Mont., Scott (Donna) of Showlow, Ariz., and Mark of Billings, Mont.; twin brother James of Sagle, Idaho, brother Lionel Vickman of Yukon, Okla., and a sister Lillian Davis of Spokane, Wash; five grandchildren, Dan, Paul, Anna, Patty, and Penny; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members Bobby and Beverly Greybeal of Doris, Calif.
Inurnment of cremains with memorial services will take place at Greybull cemetery at a later date.
Royleine R. DeVries
ROCKVALE - Royleine R. DeVries, age 75, went to be with Our Lord on Feb. 13, 1999. She passed away peacefully at her home with all her family present.
Royleine was a twin born in St. Paul, Minn., to Elsie and Raymond Maher on Dec. 26, 1923, weighing only two pounds. Her family moved to their homestead in Montana 75 miles out of Malta on the Missouri River when she was five years old. They then moved into Malta to go to High School until she was a sophomore. Her family then moved to Roberts, Mont., where she met her husband, Ernie DeVries.
She graduated from Roberts High School in 1942. She then went on to Business College, and was employed by Charlie Governs, a Billings Livestock Commission Firm.
She then married
Ernie DeVries on Nov. 17, 1943. Four months later, Ernie was sent to Germany with the U.S. Air Force during WW II, where he was on a B-24 Bomber. Ernie and Royleine DeVries were very dedicated to the Military all of their lives.
After Ernie returned from the Service in 1945, they began their farming and ranching career on Clear Creek doing business as DeVries Sheep and Land Company. They have six children who were raised and brought up as a farming family. Royleine did all the bookkeeping for the farm, and also worked right along side Ernie in the fields. They were very successful in their ventures. Behind every strong man is an even stronger woman.
They also went on to own Rockvale Hay and Pellet Company and Fort Rockvale Restaurant and Lounge until 1992. Royleine did all the bookkeeping for each business until she retired for health reasons in 1992. She continued to raise and love all her grandchildren and their families right up to her last day. She was so full of love and respect for people, and had a very exceptional love for all animals. Her heart was very pure, compassionate, and full of unconditional love of her family. She was preceded in death by her twin brother Raymond "Bud" Maher, and her parents Elsie and Raymond Maher.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Ernie DeVries, three daughters and spouses: Barbara Caravcau and Archie, Donna Adams and Don, Vicki Devries-Lemire and Dan; three son and spouses: Chuck DeVries, Jim DeVries and Debbie, Rusty DeVries and Jennifer Collins. Royleine had 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend and former daughter-in-law Devonna DeVries, who cared for Royleine the final months of her illness.
This was one very strong, dignified, and beautiful woman who loved her family more than anything.
Funeral services will be held at the Roberts Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Monday and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge.
Memorial donations made to the Big Sky Hospice for the wonderful job they did for the family during this trying time or to the Roberts Methodist Church.
Heather Dawn Hogan
Heather Dawn Hogan, 16, of Billings died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Ontario, Ore. on October 29, 1982, the daughter of Mike Hogan and Holly (Miller) Hogan.
Heather moved with her family to Elko, Nev. and in 1986, they moved to Billings. She attended the Log Cabin Pre School; her kindergarten year was at Boulder Elementary and 1st through 8th grade she attended St. Francis. At the time of her death, Heather was a sophomore at Billings Central High School.
Heather was afraid of nothing. As a young girl, she had a desire to become an actress and appeared in two commercials and several plays. She also took gymnastics and loved to sing. She worked three years as a junior volunteer for St. Vincent's Hospital. Heather played little league softball, freshman basketball, and women's and co-ed softball. Heather also participated in her true love as a member of the junior varsity volleyball team at Central.
Heather is survived by her mother and step-father, Holly and Mark Vinner of the family home; her father and step-mother, Mike and Mary Hogan of Wendover, Nev.; brother, Mike Hogan Jr. of Portland Ore.; sisters, Michelle Smith and her husband Travis of Lakeland, Fla., Kristi and Kim Vinner of Billings; grandmother, Louise Vinner of Billings; grandparents, Rhonda and LeRoy Miller of Boise, Idaho, and her Godparents, Pat and Sharon Hogan of Billings. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard and Mary Hogan.
Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Holy Rosary Church. Memorial Mass will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Rosary Church. Virginia Willis Pesha
Virginia Willis Pesha, 72, left this world Friday, Feb.12, 1999, called to heaven to join her parents, Virgil and Johanna (Bauman) Willis, her sister, Mary Belle, and her beloved Richard.
Virginia, better known as Jeannie, was born July 31, 1926, in Fairview to a WW I veteran and baker. She and her only sister, Mary Belle, were members of the Fairview High School Chorus and often sang in church for weddings and funerals. Jeannie always sang to her babies and, as her children grew up, sing-alongs were entertainment while doing chores or riding in the car. When she was sixteen, she married
Don Riek and together they had two children, Monte and Connie. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was divorced in 1963. As a single mother, she went to work in the restaurant business for several years to support her family. She worked at the Turf and Belnap Broiler in Billings. In 1968 she married
Richard Pesha from Beach, N.D. They made their home in the state of Washington. Jeannie and Rich were devoted to each other and their family. Together they ran a tavern for many years and entertained regularly in their home. Jeannie always believed that friendship began over a cup of coffee and a homemade meal. She was famous for her infectious laugh, quick wit, and radiant smile. Their home was a haven for anyone who needed a strong shoulder or a few laughs. Jeannie loved babies, little dogs, and traveling. She and Rich traveled regularly to Hawaii and Mexico. They were devoted parents and grandparents traveling often to see 'their' kids in Montana. Jeannie was widowed in 1997 and retired to the home of her daughter, Connie, in Billings.
Jeannie leaves behind her children, Monte Riek, Connie and her husband, Pat Sullivan; granddaughters, Tern and Cassandra Sullivan and four great grandchildren, all of Billings; and two nieces, Judy Simard of Glendive, and Kay lmsdahl of California.
Memorial services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at 3 p.m. Interment of ashes will be at the Willamette National cemetery, Portland, Oregon at a later date.
Arrangements are by Dahl Funeral Chapel.
Laura Frances Brunsvold
Laura Frances Brunsvold, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 10, 1999. Laura was born to Harry McCarthy and Mary Bisbee McCarthy on Dec. 29, 1913, in La Garita, Colo. She and her husband of 57 years, Howard Brunsvold, lived in Utah, Washington, Arizona and Montana. Their daughter, Kathryn Christine Younger, lives in the Seattle area.
Laura was employed in the advertising and administrative departments with the JC Penney Co. in Utah and Colorado. In the Billings area she was active in the First United Methodist Church and the Community Concert Association. For many years Howard and Laura were avid antique dealers and spent time at antique shows throughout the western states.
Laura will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her kindness and love for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 70 E. Lake St., Suite 600, Chicago, IL 60607.

Edwin Wesley Hardesty
BOZEMAN - Edwin 'Wesley' Hardesty, 75, of Bozeman, went to be with our heavenly father, Feb. 13, 1999. He was born June 22, 1923, to LeRoy Earl and Catherine Dora (Leveque) Hardesty in Bozeman.
Wes grew up and attended school in Bozeman, graduating from Holy Rosary High School in 1941. He joined the Navy and served in WWII. While in the Navy, he met Ellen Josephine Stetson of Chicago, IL; on May 19, 1945, they married
in Miami, Fla.
Wes returned to Bozeman with his wife and family where he became a painter. He also, with the help of his wife, managed Darlinton Manor for eight years, retiring in 1993. Wes was a member of Holy Rosary Church and Knights of Columbus.
Wes is survived by his six children, daughters: Carol Schweitzer, Billings; Jeanette Kyle, Freemont, Calif.; Cathy Aldrich, Everett, Wash.; sons Edwin Hardesty, Sumner, Wash., and Jim Hardesty, Glendale, Ariz., Genny Rolfe, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ellen, his sister, Louise Abbott, brother, Kenneth Hardesty and grandson, Tim Kyle.
Vigil, 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Interment at Sunset Hills cemetery.

Vanell M. Thom
Vanell Marcus Thom died Jan. 17, 1999, after a full life of serving others. In his 88 years, he demonstrated through his actions that people were most important. He was a devoted husband and father. Matthew 25:40 is an example of how he lived his life. His actions told all people, no matter what age, that they were important to him.
Vanell was born in Minock, Ill., to Hans and Henrietta Eilts Thom on May 21, 1910. When he was 2, his family moved to Lavina where he farmed and ranched until moving to Billings in 1990. After a 13-year courtship, he married
his sweetheart, Lois Dale on May 4, 1946, at the Lutheran Church in Roundup.
Vanell was an active member in his church, Holy Trinity Lutheran, serving in every office. He was a 4-H leader for over 40 years and loved helping the area youth learn. He served on the Lavina school board, HRDC board, Golden Valley Senior Citizen board, and Golden Valley Weed Board. In 1986, Vanell received the Jefferson Award from the governor of Montana for his lifetime of community service. That year he was also Senior Citizen of the year for Area II Agency of Aging. He helped start the 4-H club in Golden Valley County and the senior citizen program in Lavina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Christian, George, John, twin brother, Armin; sister, Viola Englet; and granddaughter, Teresa Mangels. Survivors include his wife, Lois; children: Marlys and Harry Stannebein, Bozeman; Nell and Art Mangels, Dillon; Mark and Sharon Thom, Lavina; Darrell and Delfina Thom, Auburn, Wash.; Randy and Leo Thom, Park City; and Jay and Jan Thom, Billings; nephew, Jerry and Margaret Thom, Billings; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be donated to the Peppy 4-H Club in Lavina, Apostles Lutheran Church in Billings or other charities of your choice.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, 1999, at the Lavina cemetery with a luncheon following at the Lavina Senior Center. Memorial service will be held at Apostles Lutheran Church at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20, 1999. Visitation will be 9 to 9 on Tuesday at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. W.
Suzanne Lowese Walters
Suzanne Lowese Walters, 67 of Billings, passed away Jan. 16, 1999, from complications of Leukemia. She was born in Detroit on Oct. 2, 1931, the daughter of Neil and Lowese Morrish.
She was raised in the Detroit area, and was a graduate of Purdue University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Suzanne married
Harry Walters on Aug. 22, 1953. The 45 years of love and commitment they shared were an inspiration to friends and family.
The family lived throughout the Midwest, before settling in Billings, which they have called home for the past 23 years. They also built a vacation home in Nye, which served as a peaceful gathering place for friends and family.
They have two married
sons, Eric Walters, currently of Warsaw, Poland, and Gregg Walters of Salem, Ore. Eric and wife, Sabrina, have three sons, Clayton, Thomas, and James. Gregg and wife, Lisa, have two children, Joey and Katy. Suzanne's family has been a constant source of pride and joy. Sue's brother, Dr. James A. Morrish and his wife, Virginia live in Bradenton, Fla., as do their two sons, Dr. James A. Morrish II and Dr. Thomas Morrish.
Sue had a strong faith in God that was evident in the way she lived each day. Her heart for service was apparent by her involvement in many community organizations, including: PEO Chapter AE, Billings Friendship Chapter No. 124 Order of Eastern Star, Bath Zabbia Temple No. 21 Daughters of the Nile, and Billings Assembly No. 194 Social Order of the Beauceant, Worthy President, 1997. She was the first in Montana to receive the Terese Lasser Memorial award for her dedication to the Reach for Recovery Program. Sue and Harry have been active members of Grace United Methodist Church of Billings.
Suzanne loved genealogy, nature, scrapbooking, reading, watching her sons participate in sports, sharing stories of her childhood, traveling, painting, cooking, coordinating social functions, and spending time at the cabin.
Suzanne lived all her life to serve others.

Alfred L. 'Al' Mann
SIDNEY - Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated for Al Mann, age 57 of Sidney, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at the St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Sidney, with Father Greg Staudinger presiding. Music will be provided by Lori Utter, Gary Rauschendorfer and Roxy Rees. Casketbearers will be: Kermit Petersen, Gene Foss, Arnold Hansen, Craig Price, David Kwasney and Dick Goss. Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Al's family and friends whose lives he touched in many ways. Ushers will be Joe Halvorsen and Mitch Tihista. Military honors will be provided by the Sidney VFW Post No. 4099. Burial will be in the Sidney cemetery following cremation under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Alfred L. "Al" Mann was born in Sidney on Feb. 10, 1941, to parents Grover and Clara (Kilen) Mann. He attended Sidney schools and graduated with the Class of 1960. He was very active in sports, which included football, basketball and track. He was a member of the "Four Years in A Row" basketball team led by Toby Kangas. He always played to win.
He enlisted in the US Army on Jan. 26, 1961. He was united in marriage to Linda K. LaLonde on April 13, 1962, at Fort Bliss, Texas. They always considered Friday the 13th as a lucky day. He was discharged on July 25, 1963, to the Ready Reserve and Honorably discharged on June 25, 1967. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and was certified as Marksman Carbine, Markmans Rifle M-1 and NIKE Air Defense Crewman.
Following his discharge he rejoined his family in Sidney and began his life as a devoted family man. He had a great interest in sports and participated in community basketball and softball programs. He also coached Little Guy Football and was one of the founding members of the Sidney AAU Wrestling program for boys. For all the older members of the club, do you remember that great trip to Idaho?
Al was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, a member of the Cum Christo Movement and the Elks Club.
Al enjoyed all sports, landscaping and antiquing. After retirement after 33 years with the Montana Highway Department, he put all these interests to a good use. Not only for himself but also for others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He also enjoyed traveling and made it from coast to coast.
Al Mann died early Saturday morning, Jan. 16, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center in Sidney.
Al is survived by his wife, Linda of Sidney; son, Steven and wife, Melody of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Shereen and husband, Kim Wanner of Mandan, N.D.; son, Stacey and wife, Amy Mason-Mann of Hamden, Conn.; granddaughters, Jade and Aja Mann of Wasilla, and grandsons, Zachary and Keetan Mann of Hamden, granddaughter, Miah Wanner of Mandan; a special friend, Tia Mann of Sidney; brother, Donald Mann of Sidney and sister, Penny Pickett of Lubbock, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Walla; father, Grover Mann and stepfather, Arthur Walla; and brother, Clarence Brandon of Tacoma, Wash.
In lieu of flowers memorials could be sent to the Foundation for Community Care in Sidney.
