Florence Kujala Klessens
JOLIET - Florence Kujala Klessens, 83, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 1999, in St. Vincent Hospital in Billings due to complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure.
She was born on July 25, 1915, in Joliet, a daughter of Ernest and Mabel Leimback. On Dec. 25, 1933, she married Matt Kujala in Joliet, and together they raised six children. Matt preceded Florence in death on April 24, 1982. On Nov. 17, 1990, she married Pete Klessens in Joliet. Pete preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1999.
Flossie's first love was listening to her kids play and sing music for various functions in the area. At age 83 she was still playing the piano and winning a few hands of pinochle at Senior Citizens. Flossie lived the last month at Evergreen Laurel where she left behind many friends and staff that were so kind to her.
Flossie will always be remembered for her hospitality, Finn bread, and endless supply of coffee.
Survivors include her children, Mabel (Rodger) Logan of Billings, Gladys (Jim) Anschutz of Denver, Colo., Bob (Peggy) Kujala of Joliet, Marilyn (Bob) Koski of Joliet, Carolyn (Jerry) Cook of Joliet, Jim (Lauri) Kujala of Red Lodge, and Hanly (Rochelle) Loyning of Roberts; two step-daughters, one step-son; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Cook and Gladys McCracken, and one brother, Clifford Leimback, all of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 11, in the Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Interment will be in the Roberts cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Music Dept. of Red Lodge High School.

Thomas C. "Tom" Mather
GREAT FALLS - Thomas C. "Tom" Mather, 81, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in the local Great Falls Hospital of natural causes.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the First Congregational U.C.C. in Great Falls. O'Connor Funeral Home in Great Falls in charge of arrangements.

Vernetta Mae Mattila
RED LODGE - Vernetta Mae Mattila, age 89, of Red Lodge, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at the Beartooth Hospital and Health Care Center. Vernetta was born Dec. 28, 1909, the daughter of William and Elizabeth McIntosh.
In her younger years Vernetta and her family moved to California where she finished school, graduating in 1928. She then went to nursing school graduating in 1932. She was a registered nurse in Long Beach and San Bernardino, California for eighteen years.
Vernetta married Adrian J. Mattila, also of Red Lodge, on July 28, 1934. They had one son Gary E. Mattila, born April 24, 1935; he married Ruth A. Caldwell April 24, 1954, and they had four sons. Gary passed away June 15, 1976, and his wife Ruth Feb. 23, 1984.
Vernetta owned and operated a licensed nursery school for eight years in Rialto, Calif. She also owned and operated several dress shops in San Bernardino and Rialto, California for fifteen years.
Vernetta and Adrian retired to Yucca Valley, Calif. They enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam Club, and alone for several years. They returned to Montana in 1980 residing in Billings before returning to Red Lodge in 1982. Adrian passed away August 18, 1990.
Vernetta became very active in helping those in need of long term care. She was an Information and Referral Technician for the Carbon County Area II Agency On Aging, and also an Ombudsman for Carbon County. She found this work to be particularly rewarding. Vernetta touched many peoples lives in many ways. She will be greatly missed.
Vernetta is preceded in death by her sister Elvera Mcintosh Dooley.
She is survived by four grandsons, Michael (Bonnie) Mattila of Sun Prairie, Wis.; Patrick (Peggy) Mattila of Poynette, Wis.; Timothy (Tammy) Mattila of Rockford, Ill.; and Matthew (Lilian) Mattila of Madison, Wis. Six great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Megan Mattila (Michael); Tina, Troy and Tessa Mattila (Tim); and Liliana Mattila (Matt); nieces, Modene Kavanagh of Fullerton, Calif.; Verna Seikkula of Red Lodge; Janice Steward of Steilicon, Wash.; Jill Quinn of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews, John Renko of Red Lodge; Wilho Seikkula of Red Lodge; sister-in-law, Irene Renko of Billings; also, a very special friend, Father Amandus Hillmann of Germany. His friendship, emotional and spiritual support for over thirty-five years was treasured by Vernetta.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 8, at 2 p.m., at the Dahl Funeral Chapel, Red Lodge. Father Amandus Hillmann will officiate along with Father Richard Osterman. Interment will be at the Red Lodge cemetery. There will be a Vigil Service Sunday, March 7, 7 p.m., at the Dahl Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Beartooth Hospital and Health Care Center or charity of your choice. Arrangements by Dahl Funeral Chapel.

Virginia C. Rogers
Virginia C. Rogers passed away peacefully Friday, March 5, 1999, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Virginia was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Hazen, Ark., and grew up in North Little Rock, Ark. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary for her Aunt in the Rumrill Pottery store in Little Rock.
She married William M. Rogers on June 16, 1938, in Juneau, Alaska. All their children - two sons and one daughter - were born in Alaska.
Following World War II, they moved back to the "lower 48" where William began a career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Virginia worked for several federal agencies, and retired in 1974 after a successful career as an Accredited Medical Records Technician for the Public Health Service, Division of Indian Health.
Virginia was active in community service and she served as Worthy High Priestess of the Mizpah Chapter of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Billings; as Worthy Matron of the Jasmine Chapter of the Eastern Star in Hardin; and as an officer in the Billings Assembly No. 194 of the Social Order of the Beauceant.
Virginia is survived by her husband, William; her two sons William M. Rogers, Jr. of Kukuihaele, Hawaii, and Charles R. Rogers of Billings; her brother Richard W. Clegg of Seattle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Margarete Elizabeth Rogers-Prinslow, and her sister Margarete L. Wofford.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Memorials may be sent to the White Shrine of Jerusalem; c/o Mizpah Shrine #4, 1101 Broadwater Ave.; Billings, MT 59102. Smith West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

M. R. "Buster" Norman
LEWISTOWN - M. R. "Buster" Norman, 95, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Creel Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at the Lewistown City cemetery.

John A. Gunville
RYEGATE - John A. Gunville, 51, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital from complications due to cancer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Wier Funeral Chapel in Roundup. Services 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Chapel. Interment at Roundup City cemetery with military honors.

Nona Ruth Clifton Arneson
HYSHAM - On March 4, 1999, Jesus saw our loving wife, mother and grandmother's work was done, and rewarded her wings to go with her halo. She selflessly devoted her life to her faith in the Lord, family and helping others.
Funeral services will he held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hysham with interment to follow in the Rancher's cemetery. Visitation will he held Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Family visitation will he held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with public visitation following until the service. Memorials may he made to the Stain Glass Fund at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hysham or the Rancher's cemetery in care of Keith Kimball. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

M. Anne Arnold
Do you suppose M. Anne Arnold, 79, would object to an obituary which modeled the writing strategies she articulated for students throughout her 43 years of teaching? Anne died of natural causes March 5, 1999; however, she left a part of herself in those she taught and with those she called "friend".
What greater legacy could one possess?

Lynn H. Grooms
CODY, Wyo. - Lynn H. Grooms, 84, of Cody, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1719 Wyoming Ave. Cremation will follow services. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

George Oxford
MILES CITY - George Oxford, 85, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Margaret Peterson
MARMARTH, N.D. - Margaret Peterson, 83, of Marmarth, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, Mont.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bowman with interment in the Riverside cemetery in Marmarth. Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge.

Selma A. "Sally" Ferguson Holm Sneva
WILLISTON, N.D. - Selma A. "Sally" Ferguson Holm Sneva, 77, of Williston, formerly of Westby, Mont., died Saturday, March 6, 1999, of heart complications after open heart surgery at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 8, and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 9, at the Fulkerson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Williston. Interment will be in the Bethany cemetery, rural Appam, north of Williston.

William Eugene Sterck
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - William Eugene Sterck, 60, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Kane Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and interment will be in the Elks cemetery.

Iola L. Stubban
JORDAN - Iola Louise Stubban, "Ole, " age 90, of Jordan, formerly of Billings, passed away on Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan.
Iola was born on June 10, 1908, in Havre, the daughter of John and Elsie (McKowin) Robinson. She graduated from high school in Havre and attended business school in Great Falls. There she met Norman Stubban and they were married in 1931.
Following school, she worked for Buttrey Food Stores in Glasgow as a bookkeeper. The couple later moved to Billings where she worked for McKesson Drug Company until she retired in 1976. Ole remained in Billings until December of 1998 when she moved to Jordan. A big part of Ole's life was "Sam" her cat.
Ole was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Ole is survived by many nieces and nephews.
As per Ole's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of arrangements.

William Dales Talcott
WORDEN - William Dales Talcott, (Bill), better known to some as "T-Heart, " 80, of Worden, passed away Monday, March 8, at the family home north of Pompeys Pillar.
Bill was born in Billings on Feb. 23, 1919, the son of Earl and Emma Dales Talcott. He attended all eight grades at the Bundy School, a rural school about a mile from where he grew up. He graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1937. He attended the University of Montana at Missoula for one year and Kinman Business College at Spokane, Wash., and the Billings Business College in Billings.
He married Ethel Mae Fleming of Knowlton in 1943 and they bought the Bundy place where they lived until his parents retired and moved to Ballantine in 1954.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae; his daughters, Janet Talcott and Judy Oblander (Steve); two grandchildren, Clayton Oblander (Arla) and Stephanie Oblander (Jon Kudrna).
Bill was a past master of Huntley Project Lodge No. 144 AF and AM, a member of Al Bedoo Shrine, the York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies, Jephthah Chapter No. 116, Order of Eastern Star and affiliated with the United Church of Christ at Ballantine.
Bill spent his entire life on the ranch raising Hereford cattle. He continued to operate the ranch after his parents retired. He was very proud of his Western heritage and was one of the last "Genuine Old Cowboys." The "Northside" was his heaven on earth.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Interment will be at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worden Fire and Ambulance Service or the charity of your choice.
