John Duncan, 82
Former Butte resident John C. Duncan died Feb. 18 in Washington, D.C.
He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Los Angeles to Dr. John W. and Armeta (Smith) Duncan. He grew up in a home on West Park Street in Butte, where his father was a podiatrist. He graduated from Butte High. He received a bachelor's degree in zoology from Virginia Union University, Richmond, Va. Then, he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Howard University.
John entered a career with the Naval Sea Systems Command. He received a letter of commendation for work in establishing procedures for conduct of acoustical trails on Polaris submarines. And he also received a superior performance award for the development of a noise silencing program for surface ships. He participated in many community activities and organizations such as the YMCA and Peoples Congregational Church.
He married Ruth Williams Polite on June 8, 1957.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters, Carol Denise and Greta Yveta; sister, Mary Duncan Colley, Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Carl Almore, Monique, Melaine, Maria, Andre John Laughinghouse; sister-in-law, Marge Alyce Duncan, and niece, Joan Duncan both of Helena; nephew, Walter Duncan of New Hampshire and numerous family members and friends.

Donald Bramlette, 93
DILLON -- Donald W. Bramlette died Tuesday at St. James Healthcare following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1908, in Mineral Wells, Kan., to Thomas and Minnie Bramlette. Don was educated in Highwood and then joined his brothers working on the family farm.
He married Joan McKenzie on Jan. 8, 1939. They lived in Geraldine before moving to Dell. Don served in World War II under Gen. Patton. He always considered serving his country a great honor.
They moved to Lima where they owned and operated several businesses. In 1976, Joan and Don retired in Lima among their friends and family. Don always liked working outdoors and grooming his yard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents; six brothers; one sister; and a daughter, Betty Cherry.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rouse; sons, Tom, Donny, Kenny and Bob Bramlette; 18 grandchildren; and his precious great-grand children.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery. Brundage Funeral Home in charge.
Memorials: Lima Community Church or Barrett Memorial Hospital.

Mary Ann Troedsson, 64
A memorial service for Mary Ann Dooling Troedsson will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. James Episcopal Church in Dillon.
Mrs. Troedsson died Feb. 20 at her home on the family ranch in the Big Hole Valley.

Mildred Neild, 93
TOWNSEND -- Mildred M. Neild of Townsend died Thursday.
Mildred was born May 14, 1908, in Adams, Neb., to the late Dr. Carl and Mae Waterman. In 1910, her family moved to Huntley Project to homestead. She graduated from Huntley Project High School in Worden in 1925. She graduated from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Billings in 1928. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse in Yellowstone National Park at Mammoth Hospital and later at the Livingston hospital.
Mildred was well known for her hat collection and gave hat shows all over the state. Mildred was very community oriented, and every project that she entered into was very important to her. She was instrumental in forming the historical society locally and served as its chapter director in 1970 and 1971. She was active in the Chamber of Commerce and received a service award for her dedication. She was also involved in the Montana Cattlewomen's Association and was nominated to be Cattlewoman of the Year in 1999.
Mildred was past president of the Altar Society and book club and was a member of the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation. She was first president of the Broadwater Cowbelles and president of the hospital auxiliary and the Canton Valley Women's Club for many years. In 1998, she was honored as grand matron of St. Vincent's School of Nursing during their centennial celebration. She was Montana Centennial Cowboy in 1989, and also served as general chairman of the charity ball to benefit the Broadwater Hospital in 1956.
Mildred married Edwin Neild Feb. 26, 1938; he died in 1952. When first married, they lived on the Neild Sky Ranch and later moved to the Canton Valley, which is now part of Canyon Ferry Lake. The rising waters of Canyon Ferry Lake forced her to move to another farm, where she raised her four daughters and farmed and ranched. One of the things Mildred loved best was riding her horse and spending time with her two dogs, Bee Tee and Flukey.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara O'Dore and husband George of Great Falls, Marcia Iverson and husband Lee of Winnett, Phyllis English and husband Bert of Helena and Edwina Hankinson and husband Monty of Dillon; grandchildren, Mike and Mark O'Dore, Craig, Marlee, Andrea and Angela Iverson, Brenda Wigert and Cody Hankinson; 10 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dogs, Bee Tee and Flukey.
The vigil is 7 p.m. Sunday in the Connors Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Byrne officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorials: Broadwater Historical Society or Broadwater Health Center Auxiliary.

Genevieve Collings, 75
DEER LODGE -- Genevieve Collings died Thursday morning at her home in Deer Lodge. She will be greatly missed by her husband, family and friends.
Genevieve was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Missoula to Regina and Edmund Labbe. She lived most of her adult life in Deer Lodge and married David Collings on May 12, 1951, in Deer Lodge.
Genevieve spent countless hours practicing, traveling and parading with hundreds of children who joined the Deer Lodge Marching Kidettes, which she founded and led for 20 years.
She also was a long-standing member of the Musician's Union and loved to play the organ and piano. Genevieve frequently played afternoons for the residents of the Colonial Manor in Deer Lodge, for the pleasure it gave her and her audience.
She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Ray Labbe and cousin, Ray Stoll.
Genevieve is survived by her husband, David; daughters and son-in-law, Dianna and Dave Williamson, Leigh Ann Tift; grandchildren, Cara Williamson, David Williamson, Callie Tift, Benjamine Tift; brother, Richard Labbe; half-brothers, Jim and Don Labbe; cousins, Bill Drews, Paul and Joe Wilson, Jim, Tom and Skip Stoll, Rose Marie Phillips.
Visitation will begin Monday at noon until 8 p.m. at the Jewell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick McGurk officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Memorials: Donor's choice.

Vasilo Hampton, 77
Vasilo Louise Hampton died Saturday morning in Butte.
She was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Butte, the daughter of Louie and Kattina Angelous. She was raised in Butte and graduated from Central High school. She worked for Hennessy's Department Store for 10 years.
She loved animals and her family and friends.
Vasilo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lane and Cy Thiefault; grandchildren, William W. and John L. Porritt, Debbie Foster, Karen and Joyce Anderson; great-grandchildren, Stevie, Justin and Stephen Porritt; and close friends, Chris Carter, Jessica Floen and Madalyn Carter.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Duggan Dolan Mortuary. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Harold `Jim' Miller Sr., 76
BELGRADE -- Harold James `` Jim" Miller Sr., of Belgrade, died at home Thursday.
He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Bozeman to Harold and Sarah (Gee) Miller. Jim lived his entire live in the Gallatin Valley. He graduated from Belgrade High School in 1943, and served in the Army in World War II. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver, driving for Kessler Dairy and Sweetheart Bakery.
Jim was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, farming, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Oscar Callantine; brother-in-law, Jim Callantine; grandson, Robert Glenn Miller; and son-in-law, Jim Armold.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Belgrade; daughters, Carol Jensen, Leah (Frank) Schimetz, all of Belgrade; sons, Harold Miller Jr., Sam (Janie) Miller, all of Whitehall; mother-in-law, Evaline Mitchell of Churchill; sisters, Lil (Archie) Meeks of Kansas, Darlene (John) Speece of Pennsylvania, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald of Bozeman, Charlotte (Stan) Mills of Utah; brothers, Robert (Alice) Miller, Dean (Shirley) Miller, all of Belgrade.
A graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bozeman's Sunset Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in the Manhattan Legion Hall.

Leo Mock, 72
Leo Richard Mock died peacefully at his residence in Butte on Monday, surrounded by his lov ing family.
Leo was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in Butte, the son of Lester and Erma (Richards) Mock.
Leo was educated at the Blaine School before attending schools in Utah. After graduation, he proudly served for 15 years in the Navy. While in Navy, he met the great love of his life, Dixie Cloward. They were married in Bremerton, Wash., on March 22, 1952, and remained lifelong companions .
Leo was employed by Silver Bow County in the Weed Control Division until he became a foreman for the Forest Service. With his deep love of the mountains, he remained with the Forest Service until his retirement.
Leo belonged to the Disabled American Veterans. When not with his family, Leo enjoyed collecting fossil rocks and spending time in the Highlands. He had many talents, including building doll houses complete with detailed furniture. Leo brought many hours of joy to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, James Meade; and sister, Echo Nilmeier.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Dixie; daughters and sons-in-law, Paget and Ken Godman, Layne and Tom Mantha, and Tawnya Mock, all of Butte; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Raquel Mock of Hamilton; grandchildren, Chris and Karen Godman of Wyoming, Jennifer Godman, Brian Godman, Aaryn and Bill Andrene, Dustin Mantha, all of Butte, and Alex Mock of Hamilton; great-grandchild, Tyler Andrene of Butte; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean and Stan Brelin and Jake and Betty Cloward; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his cousin, Jane Collins.
At Mr. Mock's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Memorials: Highlands Hospice or donor's choice.
Duggan Dolan Mortuary is in charge.
