Irvin Lee Hicks
WICHITA, Kan. - Irvin Lee Hicks, 79, of Wichita, former Nowata, Okla., resident, retired Boeing Wichita tool and die maker, died Sunday, May 9, 1999.
Born April 28, 1920, in Nowata, his parents were James Josiah Hicks Lee Ora (Albert).
Survivors are: sons, Lewis V. Hicks of Billings, Anthony C. Hicks of Delaware, Okla.; brothers, George Hicks of Wichita, Leslie Hicks of Wichita, Buryl Hicks of Nowata; sister, Kathleen Howard of Delaware, Okla.; three grandchildren, Mary Katherine Hicks, Angela Carol Hicks and Alan Christopher Hicks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarete J. Hicks, January 1999.
Rosary is at 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, Downing & Lahey Mortuary West Chapel. Service is at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Wichita. Graveside service is at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Martin cemetery, rural Childers, Okla.
Memorial has been established with American Legion Post No. 268, Irvin Hicks Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 226, Sedgwick, Kan. 67135.

Patricia A. Goyette
FORSYTH - Patricia A. Goyette, 75 of Forsyth, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth following a lengthy illness.
Patricia was born March 18, 1924, in Fairmont, N.D., the daughter of Elmer and Anita Gill Pritchert. She spent her youth and attended schools in Valley City, N.D., graduating from Valley City High School in 1943. Following graduation, Patricia moved to Great Falls, where she worked at the Malmstrom Air Force Base.
On Feb. 26, 1953, Patricia married Edwin Goyette in Great Falls. In 1954, they moved to Missoula while Ed finished his education. They moved to Lodge Grass in 1955 where Ed started his teaching career, later moving to various places in Montana before coming to Forsyth in 1966 where they have lived since. Patricia worked for Dr. Whitney, working for 20 years.
Patricia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a past member of the Business Professional Woman's Organization, and enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, crocheting, crafts, photography, playing bridge and was a skilled seamstress.
She is survived by her husband, Ed of Forsyth; two sons: Thomas of Butte, and Doug and wife, Deani of Forsyth; two daughters: Susan Houser and husband, David of Butte, and Lonni Pulver and husband Steve of Forsyth; 10 grandchildren: Eric, Wendy, Jennifer, Shelly, Michelle, Tony, Jeff, Christopher, Kristen, and Nick; 5 great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Jacob, Caleb, Kayla and Kile; two brothers: Bill Pritchert and Noel Pritchert both of Valley City, N.D.; four sisters: Ruth Holter of Pasco, Wash., Aileen Todd of Great Falls, Joan Gallacher of Kennewick, Wash., and Barbara Gay of Lacey, Wash. Patricia was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Goyette; her brother, Bob; and four sisters: Eleanor, Leona, Dorothy and Hazel.
Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Cremation has taken place and interment of the urn will follow the services in the Forsyth cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

Darren Michael Mattfield
ROUNDUP - Darren Michael Mattfield went home to be with our Lord and his Grandma Clara, May 6, 1999. His smile, that flashed at all he met, now radiates Heaven.
He was born on March 12, 1978, and spent his 21 years in Roundup with his parent's, Greg and Connie Mattfield and his younger sister, Darci. After graduating from Roundup High School in 1996, he attended college at the Montana State University-Billings where he excelled at his studies.
Darren was a loving person who cared deeply for all and loved the Lord. He was humorous, articulate, and dedicated to his family and friends. Hunting, fishing, music, singing, movies, and vacationing were his hobbies. Time spent on Grandpa Nick's ranch was special to him. Most important to him was the time spent with his cousin Brent who was his very best friend. He radiated warmth, was quick with a compliment or a story, and wanted everyone to be happy. Quiet in his pain, he sought to comfort others and had a mature sense of decency. Those touched by Darren's compassion will forever be the richer for knowing this exceptional young man.
Darren is survived by his loving parents and sister, Greg, Connie and Darci. Also surviving are his special grandparents, Nick Janich and Susie, of Roundup, and Willie and Betty Mattfield of Corvallis. Darren had many aunts, uncles and cousins who love him very much. Included are: Don and Marlene Janich, Brent Janich, Angie and Matt Wald of Billings, Rachel and Rob Morehead of Bozeman, Kevin and Beth Mattfield, Gwen and Gary Robins, Barry and Linda Mattfield and families of Oregon, Kim and Zene Robinson, Ronald and Pearl Mattfield, Rodney and Jessie Mattfield, Tammy and Jeff Medcoff and families of Alaska.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with interment following in the Roundup City cemetery. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Tammy Sue Russell
Tammy Sue Russell, 35, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at her home.
Cremation was held and a memorial was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Kathleen White
ROCKWALL, Texas - Kathleen White, age 49 of Rockwall, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 8, 1999.
She was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Billings, Mont., to Raino J. and Kathryn Fowell Niemi. She graduated from Billings Senior High School and attended Eastern Montana College. She worked in the information technology industry for the past 30 years, most recently as compensation manager with Lucent Technologies. She was a committed member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockwall where she was actively involved in small group ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Bill White of Rockwall; children: Stacy Benton and her husband Dallas of Rowlett, and Bradley White and his wife Kit of Plano; sister, Janet Chubb and her husband, Nick of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, John Niemi and his wife, Ellen of Littleton, Colo.; niece, Laura Niemi of Los Angeles, Calif.; and grandchildren: Cody, Collin, Krystal and Robert.
Funeral under the direction of Rest Haven Funeral Home will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Rockwall, with Reverend Keith P. Boone officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 500 LBJ Frwy, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244.

Roy Wilson
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Roy Wilson, 84, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at his home in Buffalo of an apparent heart attack.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, in Willow Grove cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas C. 'Tommy' O'Brien
GLENROCK, Wyo. - A Funeral Liturgy will be held for Thomas C. "Tommy" O'Brien, 74, who died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of lung cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Norma of Glenrock; three daughters, Pat and husband, Gene Townsend of Three Forks, Mont., Shannon and husband, Butch Bratsky of Billings and Penny O'Brien of Douglas; one son, Mike and wife, Kerry O'Brien of Douglas; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Glenrock Ambulance Service, Glenrock, Wyo. 82637; Blue Envelope Health Fund, 1200 E. Third Street, Casper, Wyo. 82601; or to George Kelly Medication Fund in care of Gail Kennah, 1233 E. Second St., Casper, Wyo. 82601, and would be appreciated by the family.

Lucille H. Preble
Lucille H. Preble, 74, of Billings died Tuesday, May 11, 1999. Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Plentywood, Lucille was the daughter of William L. and Elsie M. (Dickhoff) Hollatz. She was raised and completed school in Outlook. After moving to Billings, she began working for S.H. Kress. It was at the store where she met her future husband, Buck.
On Dec. 6, 1947, Lloyd "Buck" Preble and Lucille exchanged marriage vows in Billings and together they raised three children.
After their children were older, Lucille accepted a position with the Northern Hotel in housekeeping. She worked for the Northern until her retirement.
Her hobbies included crocheting and bowling, including scorekeeping as a way of earning a little spending money. Lucille loved music, especially Country and Western.
She is survived by two daughters, Lucy and husband Jim Schmid of Billings, Lonnie, husband, David Potter, children, Samara and Jeremiah of Thorndike, Maine; and son, Ben Preble, wife Karen, children, Crystal, husband, Doriah Kuntz, Chisum, Buck, and Trinity Preble, all of Billings. Other survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Hawks of Chester and Dorothy Hollatz of Billings; brother, Norman Hollatz and wife, Eleanor of Plentywood.
A funeral and remembrance service will be at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made in her name to the charity of one's choice.

Teddy Yates
ROUNDUP - Teddy Yates, 78, has been taken home to live with God. She passed from our world to the Lord's on May 10, 1999, in Billings.
Theodora Ann Yates was born to Victor and Marguerite Helberg on June 26, 1920, in McGregor, N.D. She went to school in McGregor and in Powers Lake where she graduated from high school in 1937. She attended Minot State Teachers College and later transferred to the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks where she was an active member of Delta Gamma. She graduated in 1943 with a bachelor's of art degree in music, home economics, and secondary education.
She taught school in Petersberg, N.D., for one year then accepted a position at Shelton High School in Shelton, Wash., where she met and married Ben Yates on June 8, 1945, in the Navy Chapel in Seattle.
After World War II they moved to San Jose, Calif., where she taught high school. Ben later accepted a position with Bank of America in Willows, Calif. In 1948 Teddy quit teaching and devoted herself to homemaking and motherhood. She began playing the piano and organ for church and directing the church choir and giving piano lessons.
After their only child was established in school, Teddy returned to teaching. She taught junior high and elementary education in Willows from 1955 through 1960. Her concern for her students and her individualized teaching methods were appreciated by her students and their parents. Many of her students continued on with their education through college because she was able to show them the merits of education and self-respect. Because of her dedication, she was awarded a Lifetime Teaching Certificate for the educational system in California.
In 1961 Ben accepted a position with the Miners & Merchants Bank of Roundup. The family moved to Roundup where Teddy continued playing the organ and piano for the church and for community functions. She also gave piano lessons and substituted in the Roundup school system. Later she taught full-time in Melstone and then in Roundup.
In her spare time Teddy kept busy with various causes and groups around the town. She was an active member of P.E.O., directed numerous musical endeavors including the Sweet Adelines, and accompanied many vocalists. Her greatest musical achievement was "Roundup's Finest Hour, " the four successful years that she directed the Lion's Club Follies, 1975-1979.
Teddy's greatest joys were working with children and sharing her love of music, especially with the Methodist Kid's Choir. She continued playing the organ for the community and the Methodist Church until her death.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Yates; her daughter, Marguerite Viig; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Viig; and her sister, Hope Helberg, all of Roundup; and her brother, Mason Helberg and his family, all of Orlando, Fla.
Services will take place on Saturday, May 15, 1999, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Roundup. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Roundup or the Deaconess Intensive/Critical Care Unit.

Arnold C. 'Arnie' Brothers
Arnold C. "Arnie" Brothers, 89, of Billings passed into our Lord's hand of natural causes on Saturday, May 8, 1999. Born in Spokane, Wash., to Nathaniel and Bertie Brothers, he graduated from high school and began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He married Edna Stuart who preceded him in death in 1957. He met and married his beloved Roberta Baker on June 11, 1960, after transferring to Billings. He was employed by Interstate Trucking and retired from Town and Country GMAC.
Devoted husband and father, he was a past master of Lodge #149, a 33rd degree mason and a 50-year member. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, work with wood, and enjoy time spent with his family and friends. He will be missed by all of us.
He was preceded in death by his son, Claude Baker; grandson, Tommy Baker; daughter, Barbara Pindar; and three brothers and sisters. He is survived by his love, Roberta; his son, Norman and wife, Sharon of Billings; his daughter, Patty Janz and husband, Bob of Billings; daughter, Francie McLean, husband, Jim of Bozeman; daughter-in-law, Carol Stoltz and husband, Tim of Miles City; sister, Irene Bishop of Silverton, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 8th St. W. and St. Johns. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.

Maynard H. Cellmer
CULBERTSON - Maynard Henry Cellmer, 75, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center. Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Sykeston, N.D., Maynard was the son of Henry Cellmer and Pauline (Wutzke) Cellmer. He came to Edgar in 1939 and received his high school education in Edgar, graduating in 1943.
During WWII he proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. In September 1945, Maynard was united in marriage to Eva Massin. They took up residence in the Culbertson area in November 1947, and he went to work for Pat Gould. Maynard worked for the Highway Department and for the city water department in Culbertson, retiring in 1986.
Maynard was a member of the American Legion in Culbertson and the Moose Lodge in Sidney. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and cooking. His favorite pastime was visiting with his family and friends.
He is survived by daughters, Geraldine Pennell and husband, Ronald, Genny Nordmeyer and husband, Howard of Culbertson, and Patty Cellmer of Salt Lake City, Utah, and his sons, Henry Cellmer and wife, Diane of Billings and Ronnie Cellmer and wife, Vicki of Sturgis, S.D.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jarel, Lawrence, and Donald; and two sisters, Aliene Cooper and Dorthy Stocks.
Maynard was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, and one daughter, Rosemary Hughes.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 14. 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Culbertson. Interment with military rites will be in Hillside cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Crowley
Catherine Crowley, 84, of Billings died on Friday, May 7, 1999, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Laurel. She was born the daughter of Dr. Louis W. and Harriet (Thorpe) Allard. Born in Billings on Dec. 5, 1914, Catherine spent her youth and attended school in Billings. After graduating from high school, Catherine attended Montana State University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
On Aug. 12, 1939, Catherine was united in marriage to Cale J. Crowley in Billings. Together they spent their lifetime raising five children and doting on their grandchildren. Cale died in 1997.
Catherine was a longtime member of Chapter E of the local PEO group and a member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary and husband, Randy Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, Rev. Cale J. Crowley, SS of Kabwe, Zambia, Daniel J. and wife, Debra Crowley of Mount Vernon, Wash., and William and wife, Debbie Crowley of Missoula. Survivors also include her treasured grandchildren: Linda Johnson Wilson of Washington, D.C., Carl Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, Daniel and Elizabeth Crowley of Mount Vernon, Wash., David, Kelly and Ryan Jones of Colorado Springs, Katherine, Kristal, Kimberly and Kevin Crowley of Missoula; her great-grandchild, Conor Wilson of Washington, D.C.; her brothers, Joe and wife, Betty Allard, Edward and wife, Marion Allard, all of Carlsbad, Calif.; and her sisters-in-law, Sally Allard of Billings, Christine Fulton of Seattle, Wash., and Helen Crowley of Helena.
Her husband of 57 years, Cale, her daughter, Kathleen Johnson, and her brother, Dr. Clayton Allard, all preceded Catherine in death.
A vigil and remembrance service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel with Funeral Mass 12 Noon on Friday at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral. Rite of committal will be in Laurel cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Evergreen Nursing Home, 820 Third Ave., Laurel, 59044 or Cottey College Fund, 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, Mo. 64772.

Ray Harrison Drinkwalter
Ray Harrison Drinkwalter died early Monday morning in his home in Billings. He was born July 18, 1935 in Ainsworth, Neb., to Ross and Katherine Drinkwalter. He was raised on a farm and ranch in Crawford, Neb.
Ray served in the Army in Germany during the cold war. He married Kathy Tracy on Oct. 18, 1983. Ray was a bronco rider and a rodeo livestock handler and raised horses. He worked on oil rigs for many years and drove a truck for Garrett.
Ray is survived by his wife Kathy; sons Danny Drinkwalter of Queens, N.Y., and Terry Drinkwalter of Portland, Ore., and stepson Floyd and Jackie Young of Aurora, Colo.; and stepdaughters Mary Young of Chicago, Ill., and Tracy and Greg Bauer of Minn.; and his brothers Pat Drinkwalter of Crawford, Neb., Willard Drinkwalter and Jesse Drinkwalter both of Billings, sister, Jean Drinkwalter of Crawford, Neb.; his nephew Kenny Drinkwalter of Huntley and numerous other nephews and nieces, and five grand-children.
Ray was an all around sweetheart of a guy.
Memorial service will be held Friday, May 14 at the Play Inn at 1 p.m. Memorials to Billings Saddle Club. Simplicity Burial and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
