John L. Wann

John L. Wann Madison John L. Wann, 90, a farmer and small-engine mechanic, died Wednesday August 4, 2010 at his home. Visitation is Friday August 6, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison from 5am-8pm and again 1 hour prior to the 2pm Chapel service on Saturday. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. born icon January 14, 1920 in Magazine, Arkansas to the late Laura Heathcoat Wann and the late Roy Clinton Wann, he was the third of four children. His family moved to western Oklahoma and lived through the Dust Bowl event of the 1930s. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, Horse Drawn Artillery, in September, 1941, serving in Europe with the Third Army, 250th Field Artillery Battalion, which reportedly fired the first field artillery onto German soil. He was honorably discharged in November 1945 and returned to his home of Elk City, Oklahoma. He moved to Madison in 1952 where he lived the remainder of his life, serving as Madison Alderman for several years. He was a devout Christian, member of Highland Colony Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and participated in the Sills Adult Men Sunday School Class, and enjoyed the company of fellow soldiers at 250th FABn. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; daughter Vicki Ferrell Jefcoat of Madison; sons Mike Wann (Brenda) of Jackson and Phillip Wann (Susan) of Buda, Tx; sister Beryl Bitzer (Bob) of Moorhead, MN; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Edward Earl Lewis

7/27/2010

Mr. Edward Earl Lewis, 78, passed away after a prolonged illness, at the Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 5pm – 7pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11am on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with an additional visitation held one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Jessamine City cemetery in Ridgeland. Mr. Lewis was born icon July 28, 1931 in Newton County, MS. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lewis was a well decorated educator. He received numerous awards for his outstanding performance in shaping young peoples’ lives. He received multiple Star Teacher Awards and was named Teacher of the Year, just to name a couple of his many honors. Mr. Lewis has the privilege of the Science wing of Rosa Scott being named in his honor. Mr. Lewis began his career in education by attending courses at Clarke Junior College and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He would later complete his Master’s Degree from the University of Mississippi and continue his education with Doctorate courses at Mississippi State. Mr. Lewis taught high school biology, chemistry and physics beginning with 5 years in Monticello, 1 year in Aliceville, Al and 31 years with the Madison County School District, first at Madison-Ridgeland High School and later at Madison Central. He was also a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Madison for 50 years. Mr. Lewis enjoyed watching and playing sports. He was an avid baseball fan and tennis player. He had a ranking in the Mississippi Seniors Tennis Circuit for many years. He enjoyed the Ole Miss Rebels but had no greater pleasure than watching his grandsons, Ryan and Reid, compete in their athletics. Mr. Lewis was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. Mr. Lewis was the son of the late John S. Lewis and Lois Gibbs Lewis of Newton, MS. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Lewis; daughter, Robin Lewis North and husband John Sidney; sons, Randy Wayne Lewis and wife Rosie; and Ronnie Earl Lewis; brothers, Malcolm Lewis and wife Sandra; John Lewis and wife Martha; and Leon Lewis and wife Glenda; grandchildren, Ryan and Reid Lewis; and Riley North; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Madison.

Jospeh Louis Barbuto

Mr. Joseph Louis Barbuto, 87, passed away on July 19, 2010 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm – 2:00pm on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow visitation at 2:00pm. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Barbuto was a life long resident of Weymouth, Massachusetts prior to moving to Madison. He enjoyed aviation and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force. Mr. Barbuto retired from Sears-Roebuck as an Appliance Service Mechanical Supervisor. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Barbuto of Madison; sons, J. Richard Barbuto and wife Ricki of Madison; William E. Barbuto and wife Jo-Ann of Madison; grandchildren, Adrienne Mobley and husband Luke of Laurel; Rachel O’Neal and husband Hollis of Madison; Amy Barbuto and Matt Nix of Memphis; Seth Pierce of Massachusetts; Kristyn Thoens and husband Jeff of New Jersey; great grandchildren, Trip and Gage Mobley of Laurel; Austin, Kelly and Laura Thoens of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. Charles D. Sherman

Charles Davis Sherman, 64, at his home in Jackson, Mississippi with his niece Anne Sherman and his friend Kelly Russell at his side. Charlie was son of the late Louise Geisinger Sherman, and the late Myron George Sherman, brother of James Geisinger Sherman of Philadelphia, PA, nephew of Eleanor R. Geisinger of Allentown, PA, uncle of Anne Louise Sherman and Rachel V. Sherman, and Tomas Christian, brother-in-law to Cheryl Sherman all of Philadelphia, Pa. Charlie grew up in Bethlehem, PA and graduated from Liberty High School in 1964. Charlie earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Parks College, in St Louis, MO and worked for Beechcraft, Raytheon Aerospace, and L-3. In addition to living in Jackson, Charlie also lived in Mildenhall, (UK), Stuttgart, (Germany), Bangkok, (Thailand) Tehran, (Iran), Tel Aviv, (Israel), and Selma, AL. Charlie has friends all over the world and loved reading, writing, railroads, humor, and had a disdain for sports, music and conservative politics. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 6:30pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of a donation, Charlie asks that you buy something nice for yourself and enjoy it.

Ola Sue Watts Clark

Mrs. Ola Sue Watts Clark, 74, passed away Friday July 16, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. A funeral service celebrating her life will be conducted Saturday July 17, 2010 at 2pm at Parkway Pentecostal Church in Madison with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Canton City cemetery. Natchez Trace Funeral Home of Madison is arranging the service. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Clark; parents, Glaston Watts and Mary Parker Watts James. She will be greatly missed by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Charles and Belinda Clark of Madison and Doug and Sandy Clark of Greenville, MS.; five grandchildren, Bryce, Jamie and Alyssa Clark of Madison and Michael and Brandy Harris of Greenville; sisters, Sarah Bowen and Carolyn Hearst of Canton and brother, John Dale Watts of Union, MS.

Jessie L. Sizemore, Jr.

Mr. Jessie Lee Sizemore, Jr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. The family has arranged a private service. Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison is assisting with the arrangements. Mr. Sizemore was born icon August 18, 1931. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 25, 1948. He served in conflicts in Japan in June of 1948, Korea from July 2, 1950 to August 31, 1953 and Vietnam from July of 1967 to July of 1968. During his service in Korea he was held as a prisoner of war at the age of 17 and was not released until his 20th birthday. Mr. Sizemore retired from the Army on October 1, 1969. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and American. Mr. Sizemore is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Nell Sizemore, parents, Jessie Lee Sizemore, Sr. and Opal Sizemore Kelly and son, Jessie Lynn Sizemore. Mr. Sizemore is survived by his daughter, Tamarah Encoksen and husband Richard of Duncan, OK; step-son, William O. Tillman of Ridgeland; brothers, Ben Sizemore of Madison and Kenneth Sizemore and wife Josephine of Florida; grandchildren, Jeremy Jones of Duncan, OK; Josh Jones of Atlanta, GA; Jacob Jones and wife Melanie of Duncan, OK; Travis Tucker of Saginaw, TX; Jessie Tucker of Duncan, OK; Jessicah Sizemore of Dallas, TX; Justin Tillman of Brandon; and Casey Tillman of Flowood; great grandchildren, Noah Jones of Duncan, OK; Harley and Chason Tucker of Saginaw, TX; Avery Tucker of Duncan, OK; Jacobie Jones of Duncan, OK; Kaleen Sizemore of Dallas, TX; and Jessie Tillman of Brandon.

Nell S. Rivers

Nell S. Rivers Clinton Nell Smith Rivers, 78, passed away at her home on Tuesday July 13, 2010. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison on Friday July 17th at 6pm with visitation 1 hour prior to service. A native of Isola, MS, Mrs. Rivers is the daughter of the late Louis Green Smith and the late Celia Baker Smith. She was a retired nurse who remained a caregiver after retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was well loved. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Ann Bates (Jim) of Madison; sons, Chuck Weeks (Faye) of Clinton and Stephen Rivers (Stephanie) of Austin, TX.; grandchildren, Holley and Corey Weeks, Kevin, Laura and Sarah Rivers and Nicole and Lisa Marie Bates; two great grandchildren and sisters, Jane Clark of Lenoir City, TN. and Willie Earl Farmer of Belzoni, MS.

Doris Knight

Doris G. Knight Jackson Doris Knight, 82 years young, went to be with our Lord July 10, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was a patient at Baptist Medical Center. Natchez Trace Funeral Home of Madison (601-898-8565) is in charge. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Doris was born icon July 14, 1927 and was our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a strong, positive Christian woman who had a love of life, adventure and road trips. She made her first trip to Disney World at the age of 79, enjoying every roller coaster. After retiring from the Mississippi Automobile Dealers Association, when she wasn’t traveling with family or shopping; she was happily working as an intensive care receptionist at St. Dominic’s Hospital. She considered St. Dominic’s her second home and her colleagues as family, especially Mark Lee and Kevin Necaise. Doris truly loved her time there and worked cheerfully until April, 2010 when she became ill. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Palmer and husband Coker of D’Iberville, MS and Becky Harkins and husband Pat of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Coker Palmer III and wife Jennifer of Madison, Elizabeth Taylor of D’Iberville, Patrick Harkins and wife Haley of Jackson, Nick Harkins of Austin, TX and Shannon Harkins of Madison. She was also a loving and proud great-grandmother to Savannah Taylor, Breann Palmer and Hank Harkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dominic’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Mark Alan Newport Madison

Mark Alan Newport, 58, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his home in Madison, Mississippi, with his beloved family at his side. A Mass celebrating his life will be conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison on Wednesday at 11am with visitation 1 hour prior to service. In addition, a Funeral Mass will be conducted in Terre Haute, IN at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday July 24th at 11am with visitation from 9:30am until service time at the church.

born in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 18, 1951, Mark grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. He graduated from Terre Haute Schulte High School in 1969 and attended Indiana State University. He married icon the former Rosalie Kay Drake of Fairbanks, Indiana, on November 25, 1972, and was most proud of his 37 plus years with wife, Kay, and their two children, Matthew and Megghan. He spent his professional career in the transportation and food service industry and completed his career as the National Sales Account Manager for Merchants Food Service.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Michael A. and Marcella Schnyder Newport of Terre Haute, Indiana, brother, Samuel E. Newport, and sister-in-law, Ruthmarie Bauer Newport.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, son, Matthew Newport and wife, Jenifer, and daughter, Presley, of Sugar Land, TX, and daughter, Megghan Newport Purvis and husband, Bryan, and son, Landon, of Ocean Springs, MS. He is also survived by sister, Marty Newport Bender and husband, Bill, of Jupiter, FL, sister, Francie Newport Bailey and husband, Fred, of Dunwoody, GA, sister-in-law, Josie Newport of Terre Haute, Indiana, brother, Paul and wife, Cathy, of Muncie Indiana, brother Bob and wife, Carol, of Plainfield, IN, brother, Joe, of Terre Haute, IN, brother, Mick and wife, Allyson, of Terre Haute, IN, sister, Kathy, of BeechGrove, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Willoughby was born icon on May 19, 1919 to Percy D. Willoughby and Mamie Craft Willoughby in Jayess, Mississippi. He was a resident of Jackson for 44 years before moving to Madison. Mr. Willoughby retired from Allstate Insurance after 31 years of service and also was a veteran of the United States Air Force.He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy D. Willoughby and Mamie Craft Willoughby; sister, Monte Craft; and brothers, Bill Willoughby, Elmer Ray Willoughby and J.C.
