Miss Sophia Caroline Mader

Miss Sophia Caroline Mader, passed away prior to birth, March 11, 2006, at Woman’s Hospital in Flowood. Visitation will be Thursday starting at 1:00 p.m. and Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Jackson. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery immediately following services.
Sophia is survived by her parents Renee Smith Mader & Michael Leon Mader of Madison, grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Horace M. Smith of The Villages, FL, Ms. Judith C. Mader of Havre De Grace, MD, and numerous family and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Ms. Carole C. Smith.
Although the world has gained another Angel, Sophie will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the parents have asked that donations be made to the Sophie Mader Memorial Fund for the children’s playground at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church at 5400 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211.

Charles Olen Moore
Madison - Mr. Charles Olen Moore, 73, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is Thursday evening from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. Funeral services will be held Friday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison at 11:00am. Interment will be at Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery in Madison. Natchez Trace Funeral Home of Madison is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Moore was a native of Moselle, Mississippi. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College School of Law. Mr. Moore was a resident of Jackson for 35 years and was a partner in Moore and McKay Law Firm before retiring in 1997. He was a past member of Briarwood Drive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Trustee. Mr. Moore was involved in many community volunteer programs and was a member of the Hinds County Trial Lawyers Association and the Mississippi Bar Association where he earned the President’s Award for Pro Bono work in 1989. He and his wife moved to Madison 13 years ago and were members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his mother; Lorene Lindley Moore and a brother; J.W. Moore.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 50 years; Ruth M. Moore of Madison, daughter; Ann Moore Fry and husband Jack of Jackson, sons; Steve Moore and wife Dana of Cranberry Township, PA. and Greg Moore and wife Cheryl of Southaven, MS, grandchildren; Trey Fry, Jillien Fry, Sean Moore, Stephanie Moore, Rachel Moore, Ann Merritt Moore, and Gregory Moore, and a brother; Howard Moore of Hattiesburg.

Ridgeland, MS - Mrs. Myrtle Cleveland Munn, 89, passed away on Sunday February 5, 2006 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Funeral services are to be held Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 10:00 am at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with visitation Tuesday night from 5-7 pm. Interment will be in Lakewood cemetery. Mrs. Munn , born
January 2, 1917 in Rock Branch, Mississippi, was a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, for 35 years while she had a successful career with American Telephone & Telegraph Company. She retired in 1980 and moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi, where she remained active in community affairs. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgeland and for over 50 years taught Sunday School and weekly Bible study classes, first at First Baptist Church of Jackson and later at First Baptist Church of Ridgeland. All who knew her knew that she “walked with God” and lived her faith.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Andrew Mack Munn of Ridgeland, Joye and Don Davis, her daughter and son-in-law, and D’Lesli Munn Davis, her granddaughter, all of Dallas, Texas. In addition, she leaves siblings, Rachel Marchant of Ridgeland, E. C. Cleveland of Biloxi, Nell Williams of Natchez, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Six brothers and sisters predeceased her.

SSGT Kenneth Eugene Thornton
Crystal Springs - SSGT Kenneth Eugene Thornton., 36, passed away Monday, January 16, 2006, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation will be at Natchez Trace Funeral Home Thursday from 4-8:30pm. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. Interment is at Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery.
SSGT Thornton was a native of Jackson and had been a resident of Crystal Springs for the past 15 years. He was an Aero Space Ground Equipment Technician with the Mississippi Air National Guard and had served his Country for the past 19years. He loved his guard unit and was very dedicated to the Air National Guard. He never refused a mission and many times volunteered his time to serve. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. SSGT Thornton is preceded in death by his grandparents: Kirman Duckworth and Esker and Beatrice Thornton.
SSGT Thornton is survived by his two children; Gabby and D.J. Thornton and their mother Angel Thornton of Crystal Springs, parents Eugene and Catherine Thornton of Jackson, sister Suzanne Childers and her husband Tommy and son Parker of Charlotte, N.C., grandmother Doye Duckworth of Bay Springs, and special friend Cindy Alford and her son Matthew Alford. A host of aunts and cousins also survive SSGT Thornton.

Jacob Aucoin, 75, died in Madison on Sunday, November 14, 2010. Visitation will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A memorial service will follow in the chapel. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. On Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1934, Jacob P. Aucoin was born
in New Orleans, LA, to Albert and Clara Aucoin. The fourth of seven children, he was reared by Lawrence and Edna (his maternal aunt) Graham in a loving and Christian home. Jacob was educated in New Orleans Public Schools and graduated from Alcee Fortier High School, in May 1952. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. During his years of service to our country, he was assigned to various units and stations in the continental U.S. and throughout the world. Jacob retired in 1981 with the rank of Commander, after serving continuously for more than 29 years. For the next 8 years he worked as an independent marine engineer, consultant and marine surveyor in mostly overseas positions. Retiring again in 1989, he and Nina moved to Rural Stone County where they lived for almost 20 years. In December of 2008, they moved to St. Catherine’s Village in Madison. Jacob and Nina were married
on December 24, 1952 and have a family of three children, Lesa (deceased), Christine and Jacob, Jr., their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jake and Nina were active members and served in many Baptist churches in their travels. They were active in Sunday school and senior citizen’s club (V.I.P.’s) in Wiggins, while living in Stone County. They are now members of the First Baptist Church of Madison. Jacob was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on August 7, 1962 in Howard Lodge No. 69 F&AM;, Mobile, Alabama. He is a lifetime member of his lodge. E and Nina were initiated into the order of the Eastern Star at Miriam CH. No. 67, Wiggins on November 6, 1990. They were elected as dual members of Carriere Chapter No.105, Carriere. Jacob served with Sandra Calhoun as Worthy Grand Patron as she was Worthy Grand Matron of their “Celebration of Eastern Star” 2001-2002, which will be retendered by all with fondness. Mrs. Thornton was a native of Bay Springs and had resided in Jackson for the past 39 years. She was employed by Jackson Public Schools for the past 25 years and served in many positions, most recently the secretary for the maintenance department. Her family was very important to her and her life was spent caring for them and others. She was a member of Briarwood Drive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her father Jeriel Kirman Duckworth and her son SSGT. Kenneth E. Thornton.
Mrs. Thornton is survived by her husband Eugene Thornton of Jackson, daughter Suzanne Childers and her husband Tommy of Charlotte, NC., grandchildren Parker Childers, Gabby Thornton, and D.J. Thornton, mother, Doye Duckworth of Bay Springs, sisters Annette Arnold of Florence, Rachel Rowell of Bay Springs, and sister in law Audene Evans of Pearl, nieces and nephews Marty Chisholm and Jody Chisholm, Crystal Wimberley, Heather Crumpton, Lacey Blakeney, April Todd, Wesley Goins, Michael Evans, and Scotty Evans, and several great nieces and nephews.

Andrew Mack Munn, born
June 24, 1916, in Greenland, Mississippi, the only child of Thomas Jefferson and Velma Collins Munn, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22, 2006. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home, Madison, Mississippi. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday April 24, 2006, at 1 P.M. with Rev. Ed Griffin and Dr. Grant Arinder officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mack was a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, for 35 years while he worked for the Gulf Transport Company. In 1980 he moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi, where he remained active in community affairs. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgeland, serving at various times in many capacities from church door- opener to Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Mack was a Mason and Shriner for over 50 years. His family and many friends will especially miss his wisdom, his storytelling, and his willingness to be of help in any way needed.
He is predeceased by Myrtle Cleveland Munn, his wife of 69 years, who died February 5, 2006. He is survived by Joye and Don Davis, his daughter and son-in-law and D’Lesli Munn Davis, his granddaughter, all of Dallas, Texas. In addition, he leaves many in-laws and nieces and nephews whom he held dear.
David Earl Brewer

David Earl Brewer, 84, of Jackson, died June 26, 2010 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 30, 2010, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Saint Matthews United Methodist Church, 7427 Old Canton Road, Madison MS. Funeral service to follow, at 11:00 AM, at the church. March 15, 1926 to Randall & Pet Brewer. One of six children: brothers, Marion, Charles and Louis; sisters, Blanche Brewer Pitts and Christine all of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Brewer was a native of Crystal Springs, MS, where he grew up on a working tomato farm. Their tomatoes were shipped all over the United States. After graduating from Crystal Springs High School, Earl joined the United States Marine Corps, during World War II. Upon completing basic training, he participated in action against the enemy at the battles of Guam and Iwo Jima. After 2 1/2 years of service he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Bowers. Following completion of basic studies at Co-Lin Junior College they moved to Starkville, MS to complete his education in Civil Engineering, at Mississippi State College. Upon graduation they moved to Texas, a couple of times, for special civil engineering projects on the Dallas/Fort Worth Turnpike. Between stints in Texas, he taught civil engineering classes at MSU. He preferred listening to Jack Cristil announce Mississippi State football on the radio to watching on TV. He always loved his “Bulldogs”. The Brewers settled in Jackson, MS in 1957. Earl’s career in Jackson includes Michael Baker Engineering and Mississippi State Highway Department. He retired as Chief Bridge Engineer in 1985 from the State Highway Department. His hobbies were attending any event that involved his grandchildren, working in the yard, maintaining a proper compost pile to produce his “Black Gold” dirt, planting and grafting pecan trees, fixing things, and most of all helping others. It did not matter who, when, where, or what needed to be done, he was always willing to help, and if you were late arriving, he usually already had it done. Earl was a charter member of and instrumental in planning and developing Hanging Moss Swim and Tennis Club, on Highland Drive, in north Jackson. He was a very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Jackson and was instrumental in the church’s move to Madison, MS, where they acquired land and built larger facilities to accommodate their growing ministry. The name of the church was changed to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, following the move. Earl took great interest in the history of the church, and was Church Historian for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and granddaddy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette; two sons, Randy Brewer (wife Sally-children Christi Brewer & Cathy Brewer Cannada and husband Baker ) of Jackson; David Brewer (wife Janet-children West Brewer & Rachael Brewer) of Brandon; daughter, Gloria Frazier (husband Dale- children Adam Frazier, Heather Frazier & Charlie Frazier) of Flowood.. Jimmy Johnson Jackson, MS Jimmy Johnson, 66, passed away Wednesday August 4, 2010 at Hospice Ministries. Visitation will be 10:00 – 12:00, Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. He was a graduate of Murrah High School, 1962 and attended the University of MS where he was a member of the Deke Fraternity. He was a sales executive for Jarman Shoe Company, Genesco for 25 years and his hobbies included water skiing, golf and playing cards with his buddies at the Club. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.P Johnson, Jackson, MS. He is survived by his brother Charles (Karen) Johnson, Ocean Springs, MS. Sister - Jan Johnson, Jackson, MS., Nieces – Mary Johnson, Ocean Springs, MS. And Rachel (Sander) Spence, Ft. Worth, TX., their children, Walker and Madeline.
