MCELROY
Genevieve (Gen) Janet Burris McElroy of Pascagoula, Miss., died May 19, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Okla. from a massive stroke. She was born
March 16, 1922, in Sylvia, Kansas.
After moving to Pascagoula in 1963, Mrs. McElroy earned both a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in guidance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Shortly after receiving her degrees, she became employed by the Biloxi school district where she served as guidance counselor and the Coordinator of Counseling for Pascagoula High School. After five years she became Coordinator of Testing, Counseling and Guidance for the Pascagoula School District. After earning her doctorate degree from USM, Mrs. McElroy served as Director of Student Services for the Pascagoula School District until she retired in 1991.
As an active member of the community, Mrs. McElroy was a member of the Pascagoula Chamber of Commerce, Pascagoula Pride, Friends of the Library, Anola Club, Republican Women's Club, P.E.O., Walter Anderson Museum Society, Pascagoula Country Club, Alpha Delta Kappa and Phi Delta Kappa (honorary educational societies) and was a Mississippi delegate to the White House Conference on Aging from 1994-1995.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Pascagoula, Miss., where she served as a member and past chairperson of the Administrative Board and the Counsel of Ministries. Mrs. McElroy was also a member of the United Methodist Women and had served as a lay leader and reader.
She is survived by her beloved husband of eight years, Clay McElroy; her granddaughter, Marion Warfield, Pascagoula; a brother, Dr. William (Goldie) Melville, Platteville, Wisc.; a sister, Betty (Bob) Franco, Cedar Park, Tex.; her loving and devoted extended family, Dr. Bill and Pat Warfield, Pascagoula; two stepsons, Mark (Carol) McElroy, New Braunfels, Texas; and Mike (Carol) McElroy, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Burris; her parents, Harley and Ethel Melville; a brother, Robert Melville; and a sister, Lois Mangels.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Bob Burris Scholarship Fund, c, o First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 371, Pascagoula, Miss., 39568-0371 or the Regional Cancer Center, 2809 Denny Ave., Pascagoula, Miss., 39581.
A memorial requiem mass will be said at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at a late date.

CAMPBELL
Calvin Terry Campbell, 51, of Gautier, Miss., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Singing River Hospital, Pascagoula, Miss. He was born
Oct., 26, 1951, in Centralia, Ill., and has been a resident of Gautier for 10 years. He was a combination electrician for Northrop Grumman. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy and served 18 years in the U.S. Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Campbell and Cora Haney.
He left behind his life-time companion, Glenda Campbell of Gautier, Miss.; four daughters and one son-in-law, Talitha Winters of Destin, Fla., Sesanie Campbell of Gautier, Miss., Alicia Bouler of Gautier, Miss., Tracy Sharp (Ricky) of Gautier, Miss.; his twin brother, Larry Campbell; and one sister and one brother; eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Gautier, Miss.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the Biloxi National cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.

CONERLY
Maude Elsie Conerly, 77, of Pascagoula, Miss., died April 27, 2003, in Pascagoula. She was born
Nov. 16, 1925, in Magnolia, Miss. Mrs. Conerly was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Pierce and Bessie Alma McAllister and husband, Richard V. Conerly.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sybil and Amos Doty of Ethel, Miss., Carol and C.A. Shepherd of Rocky Creek, Miss., Patricia and Mike Morgan of Gautier, Miss., Sheila and Robert Lucas of Norfolk, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Freddie Mae and Owen Reynolds of Meridian, Miss., Shirley Johns and Darrell Griffin of Theodore, Ala., Pearlene Tylicki of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles David and Willie Mae Cubbage of Lucedale, Miss., Norlan and Mary Conerly of Pascagoula, Miss., Ronald and Louise Carpenter of New Orleans, La.; and sister-in-law, Lena Conerly of Columbia, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Miss. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, from Crossroads Methodist Church in Lucedale, Miss. Friends may call one hour before the service. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

ROPER
Maudred L. Roper, 84, died May 26, 2003, in Pascagoula, Miss. She was born
Aug. 2, 1918, in Meadville, Miss. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Point, a member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Annia O'Neill Chapter, Moss Point, Royal Matron of the Order of Amaranth. She was a resident of Moss Point for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Roper, and a son, C.E. Roper.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Salley of Pascagoula, Miss.; two sons, Richard Roper of Diamondhead, Miss., Bill Roper of Bremerton, Wash.; a sister, Louise Truex of Pearl River, La.; grandchildren, Joseph Salley of Pascagoula, Reid Salley of Pascagoula, Richard Roper Jr. of Belle Chase, La., Robin Roper of Burras, La., Aislinn Pares, Gretna, La., Rickie Pares, of Oxford, Miss., Butch Roper of Shreveport, La., Sandy Roper of Panama City, Fla., Jane Roper of Panama City, Fla., Steve Roper of Panama City, Fla., Linda Roper of Bremerton, Wash., Brenda Lee Roper of Bremerton, Wash.; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Moss Point First Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Griffin cemetery in Moss Point.
Jackson County Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
BROADUS
Harriet Elizabeth Broadus, 93, of Pascagoula, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Pascagoula. She was born
Feb. 12, 1910, in Macksburg, Ohio. Mrs. Broadus was an active member and Sunday School teacher at Orange Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordie Broadus; daughter and son-in-law, Eula and Ramus Lundy; three brothers; one sister; a son in law, David Taylor; and two grandsons.
She is survived by a daughter, Iris Taylor of Moss Point; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 30 great-, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 24, 2003, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
The funeral followed at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. M.L. McCormick and the Rev. Reed Pigford officiating. Interment was held in Orange Grove cemetery, Moss Point.
Pallbearers were George Lundy, DeWayne Lundy, John D. Wells Jr., Luther Elliott, Seth Randle and Andy Winsett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to: Midway United Methodist Church, 9814 Old Stage Road, Moss Point, MS 39562, or Orange Grove Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Plaza Community Living Center for their loving care and devotion shown to Mrs. Broadus and her family while there.

REAMS
The Rev. Lester D. Reams, 78, of Helena, Miss., died Thursday, May 22, 2203, in Helena. The Rev. Reams was a native of Taylor County, Fla. He had been a coast resident for the past 18 months. He was a minister and pastor for 42 years. He was a horticulturist with Agri Business Corp., in Fort Pierce, Fla., for 17 years. Rev. Reams was a member of the Martin Street Baptist Church in Pascagoula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Union Drummer Reams and Mary Elizabeth Stanaland Hones; a sister, Joyce Laverne Reams Gagen; and three brothers, Lummiell Dale Reams, Marion Eugene Reams and William D. Reams.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virgie H. Reams of Helena; two sons, the Rev. Dr. Clem D. Reams and wife, Karen D. of Helena, Miss., and Phillip E. Reams and wife, Karen L., of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Carolyn Moore of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Oscar Dolor Reams of Titusville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Cheryl A. Cole and husband Richard and Alexander Dawson Reams; six great-grandchildren, David Everette, Justin Crippen, Nicole Crippen, Amanda Crippen, Rebecca Everette and James Everette; one great, great grandchild, Michael Fulkerson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Ocean Springs Chapel, Bradford O'Keefe. A 10:45 a.m. procession will then leave the funeral home for an 11 a.m. graveside service at Crestlawn Memorial Park.

DAVIS
Mary Elizabeth Holland Davis, 89, of Vancleave, Miss., died May 21, 2003, at her residence. She was born
April 12, 1914, in George County and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Laura Holland; children, Sherry Davis Cobb, J. L. Davis, Phillip Davis; brothers, Ellis Holland, James Holland; and sisters, Lula Cumbest and Geneva Smith.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Roger E. (Kay) Davis of Houston, Texas, Glynn (Delores) Davis of Vancleave; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha (A.J.) Moody of Moss Point and Linwood (Anna Lee) Scarbrough of Wade; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Wade Baptist Church in Wade, Miss. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. from Wade Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Barton officiating.
Interment will follow at Johnson cemetery in Wade, Miss.

TANNER
Mr. Richard D. "Doug" Tanner, 87, of Pascagoula, Miss., died May 21, 2003, in Pascagoula. He was born
July 7, 1915, in Lucedale, Miss.
Mr. Tanner was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from International Paper Company in Moss Point. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Pascagoula and held several different positions in the church during his membership. Mr. Tanner was also past treasurer of the Jackson County Labor Union, past financial secretary of Local #384, a longtime volunteer with Project AWARE, and a member of the Scranton First Volunteer Fire Department of Pascagoula. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Herbert Tanner.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Hazel D. Tanner of Pascagoula; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Steve Hotoph of Escatawpa; two sisters, Clara Dalton of Pascagoula and Elverda Broun of Moss Point; grandchildren, Susanne and Henry Braddock, Tim Baker II, Lawrence Douglas Baker, and Cherish, Chase, Brittany, Corby, and Blake Hotoph; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Elizabeth, Austin, Blane, Alexis and Caitlyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, from Christ Lutheran Church in Pascagoula with Pastor John Arbogast officiating. There will be a one-hour visitation in the church prior to service time.
Interment will follow in Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Scranton First Volunteer Fire Department.

COOK
James Cook, 86, of Cook Avenue, Pascagoula, Miss., died Friday, May 16, 2003, in Singing River Hospital, Pascagoula, Miss.
He was born
Feb. 20, 1917, in Pascagoula, Miss. to the late Norman and Willie Chapman Cook Sr.
He was a resident of Washington, D.C. for 55 years before returning to Pascagoula. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Asbury Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
Mr. Cook was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army. He worked for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. and later retired after 33 years of employment with the Department of Defense.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Cook Jr. and Lorenza Cook Sr.; and one sister, Dolores Cook Laster.
Survivors include two brothers, Leo Cook of Sacramento, Calif., and Eugene Cook Sr. of Moss Point, Miss.; one sister, Willie Mae Cook Lewis of Dallas, Texas; and devoted nephews, nieces and other relatives. A devoted friend, Dora Thomas of Washington, D.C., and other friends.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Asbury Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Pascagoula.
The funeral will follow promptly at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Alphonso K. Petway officiating.
Interment will be in Scranton cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss.
