Robert Pierre Theobald
Robert Pierre “Bobby” Theobald died Saturday morning, July 3, 2010, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 81.
Robert was born
in Vicksburg on July 22, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Prigg Theobald; his son, Bruce Klein Theobald; his sister, Mary Beth Theobald Herzog; and his brother-in-law, Maurice Herzog.
After graduating from Carr Central High School, Mr. Theobald graduated cum laude from Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn. He later was employed by Fisher Funeral Home.
On Jan. 7, 1950, he married
Karleen Klein Davis. The couple moved to Fayette and started a cattle ranch.
On a trip to Vicksburg in 1953, Robert and Karleen arrived in the city a few hours before the deadly tornado of Dec. 5 leveled most of downtown Vicksburg. Robert worked non-stop in removing the dead and injured from beneath the collapsed roof of the Saenger Theatre. For his tireless efforts he was recognized with a certificate of appreciation from the City of Vicksburg.
In 1958, the Theobalds returned to Vicksburg. Robert became involved in the automobile business, owning and managing several service stations and automobile dealerships. During his business career, he was an active member of the Vicksburg Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1961. In the early 1960s he also represented the City of Vicksburg as sponsor of the Miss Mississippi Pageant.
In 1988, Mr. and Mrs. Theobald moved to the Eagle Lake community. In addition to owning the local grocery, service store, Robert served as unofficial caretaker of the Eagle Lake Methodist Church, making sure everything was in order for the Sunday morning worship service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sherry Alene Theobald Smith and her husband, Winfrey Haden Smith, of Brandon; two sons, Robert Davis Theobald of Washington, D.C., and Gregory Pierre Theobald and his wife, Deborah, of Eighty Four, Pa.; his brother, David Theobald and his wife Barbara, of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren, Shane Smith, Ashley Theobald, Lindsey Theobald, Adam Theobald, Christopher Theobald, Selena Bullard and Christi Dyess; six great-grandchildren, Mari Miller Theobald, Adri Bullard, Amelia Bullard, Brie Dyess, Jackson Klein Dickerson and Addison Blair Dyess; and his daughter-in-law, Dette Theobald Vedros of Vicksburg.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara Hite, pastor of Eagle Lake United Methodist church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service. Matthew Allen Peters
Matthew Allen Peters died Monday, May 3, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 46.
born in Fresno, Calif., he had been a Vicksburg resident for the past three years. He was a graduate of Clovis High School in Clovis, Calif., and was a senior at Belhaven University. A carpenter by trade, he was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Marshall Peters of Vicksburg; a stepson, Timmy Marshall of Vicksburg; his parents, Leo Jerome Peters and Janette Marie Davis Peters of Sutherlin, Calif.; four sisters, Teresa Guaglianone of Bakersville, Calif., Monica Peters Bankston of Fresno, Andrea Hill of Springhill, Tenn., and Angela Keirn of Hanford, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 1 p.m. until the service.

Joseph S. Taylor Sr.
Joseph S. Taylor Sr. died Monday, May 3, 2010, at his home. He was 75.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Leitha Yarbrough Taylor; and three brothers, Samuel L. Taylor, Arthur Taylor and John Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Louella Goodman Taylor of Vicksburg; three sons, Joseph Taylor Jr. of Las Vegas and Michael Taylor and Stanley Taylor, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Deborah Taylor of Loganville, Ga.; three sisters, Perri Earnestine Williams and Louise Taylor Kennedy, both of Vicksburg, and Gloria Southward of Jackson; two brothers, Earl Taylor and Herman J. Campbell, both of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Pearlie Mae Baskins
PORT GIBSON — Pearlie Mae Baskins died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Promise Hospital. She was 88.
Mrs. Baskins was born
in Claiborne County to Willie and Sarenta Smith. She was a housewife and a member of Mount Burner M.B. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Dave Smith Sr. and Arthur L. Baskins; one sister, Geneva Clark; and three brothers, Robert L. Smith, Jimmy Smith and Charlie Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Smith Jr. of Ohio and James R. Smith of Hammond, Ind.; three daughters, Zadie Lee Brinner and Ethel Pearl Smith, both of Port Gibson, and Gerva Brandon of Michigan; 19 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Burner M.B. Church with the Rev. Ray Coleman Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Dawn Hilderbrand
Dawn Hilderbrand died Monday, May 3, 2010, at University of Mississippi Medical Center. She was 36.
born in Vicksburg, she was a graduate of Vicksburg High School and was a licensed cosmetologist. She was an insurance clerk with River Region Medical Center and a member of Living by the Word Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, John-Dustin Hilderbrand; and her grandparents, Henry G. Barfield, Cornelia B. Powell and Clayton H. Powell Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Evie Hilderbrand of Vicksburg; her parents, Wanda and Jon Perrier of Diamondhead and Jerry and Velma Powell of Pearl; two brothers, Kelly Powell of Jackson and Dustin Powell of Memphis; one sister, Samantha Powell of Pearl; grandparents, Dorothy Barfield of Addison, Texas, and Janice Perrier and Ralph Sr. and Velma Stevens, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Frederic, pastor of the Living by the Word Fellowship Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the service.

John Henry Morgan
John Henry Morgan died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.
Mr. Morgan retired from Anderson-Tully after 45 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessie Mae Anderson; his parents, Mary Marshall and Gifford Morgan; three stepsons, Henry Chocolate, Jimmy Chocolate and Johnny Turner; and one sister.

Rutha Mae Sanders-Simpkins
MIAMI — Rutha Mae Sanders-Simpkins died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in Miami. She was 73.
Mrs. Sanders-Simpkins was born
in Bovina to Fred and Louisa Lacy Sanders. She was reared in Warren County.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Simpkins; four children, Charles Sanders, Carolyn Christopher, Felix Simpkins and Vanessa Tillman, all of Miami; two sisters, Elizabeth Sanders of Vicksburg and Tethel Bridge of Gary, Ind.; and 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Stephanee Nichole David
TALLULAH — Stephanee Nichole David died Friday, April 30, 2010, in a one-car automobile accident on U.S. 80 near Mound, La. She was 26.
Ms. David was born
in Delhi and had lived most of her life in Tallulah. She was a receptionist for H&R; Block.
She is survived by her mother, Terrie Lynn Parks of West Monroe, La.; her father and stepmother, Russell and Rhonda David of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three brothers, Michael W. David of Vicksburg, Russell Wayne David Jr. of McComb and James Stafford of Terre Haute, Ind.; one sister, Jackie Stafford of Walker, La.; two children, Terry Michael David and MyKayla Reed, both of Tallulah; and her fiance, Michael Dicell Reed of Tallulah.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with Brother Gene Haley officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Stephan Markese Evans
Stephan Markese Evans died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 8.
Stephan was an Early Education student at Beechwood Elementary. He was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Lula Mae Gordon; and his maternal great-grandparents, Curley Evans and Evelyn Evans.
Survivors include his mother, LaQuita Evans of Vicksburg; his brother, Robert Earl Evans of Vicksburg; his grandmother, Barbara Evans of Vicksburg; his grandfather, Alfred Gordon of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including members of the McCoy, Gordon, England and Morgan families.

Lester Ray Flowers
RAYMOND — Lester Ray Flowers died Monday, May 3, 2010, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 57.
Mr. Flowers was a longtime employee of the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Flowers of Utica; two sons, Kevin Ukele of Madison and Daniel Flowers of Brandon; and a daughter, Leslie Wasson of Gulfport.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond.
