Mr. Willie E. Peoples died January 23, 2016 at his residence. He was 60.
He was born
on October 13, 1955 to the late Edward B. and Mary Peoples in Edwards, Mississippi.
Mr. People attended Edwards Junior High School and upon completion, he furthered his education at Utica Junior College to pursue a career in drafting.
He served in the U.S. Army from July 1973 until February 1976 during the Vietnam Era peacetime. His military education was a medical corpsman, medical specialist and first-aid attendant. In February of 1976, Willie was discharged under honorable conditions.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gene Crowley Peoples; his siblings, Eddie Lee Peoples and Jerry Peoples.
Survivors include his sisters, Juanita Ann Walker of Vicksburg, MS, Sally Tucker, Vera Peoples, Elaine Peoples, Edith Peoples all of Edwards, MS and Sarah Scott of Jackson, Mississippi; brothers, Edward B. Peoples of Edwards, Mississippi, Andrew Peoples, A.C. Peoples and Robert Peoples all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John Arthur Erves “Bay” was born
June 23, 1953 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Malissie Erves and the late Reverend Willie Erves, Sr. His paternal grandparents were the late John (“Big Papa”) Erves and Polly (“Big Momma”) Williams Erves. His maternal grandparents were the late Arthur Pearson and Cleopatra Pearson. John accepted Christ as his personal savior at age 12 and was baptized at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in the Bovina community of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the second born
son of fifteen siblings and was raised in a loving, Christian environment. When he was born, his one-year old brother, Willie Jr. could not say “baby”, instead he said “Bay” and that became his nickname. Bay attended Bovina Elementary School, graduated from Warren Central High School and Utica Jr. College. He received an academic scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University, but chose to enter the workforce in Detroit, Michigan.
John retired as a Production Supervisor for the Cadillac Division of General Motors after 35 years of service. He became a well-known mechanic in his neighborhood, and only worked on Cadillacs. He was known to some as “Cadillac Slim.”
He was very skilled in using his hands and loved to carve wood and craft things like wallets and belts from leather. He was a kind, gentle-hearted person, who always had a smile and an outstretched hand, willing to help anyone, and asking nothing in return.
During his illness, Bay was determined to come home for Christmas and with God’s grace, he did.
On January 23, 2016, God’s Angels visited our beloved Bay and he departed this life at St. Johns Medical Center in Detroit Michigan. He was 62. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Joseph Erves, his father Reverend Willie Erves, Sr., a niece, LeJulia White and a brother-in-law, Roy A. White.
Bay leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Dorothy Adams Erves; a step-daughter, Montoya Essence Adams, whom he raised as his own; a loving and devoted mother, Malissie Erves; three brothers, Willie Erves, Jr., (Natalie) of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Jimmy Erves (Latana) of Huntsville, Alabama, and his baby brother Enoch Erves (Tamekia), of Ridgeland, Mississippi; eleven sisters, Williene Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, Cynthia Erves-Price (Jimmy), Mary Erves-Lacey(Sylvester) and Cleopatra Erves, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Eleanor Erves-White of Camden, Mississippi, Janie Erves-Brown (Ronnie) of Jackson, Mississippi, Lois Erves-Gaines (George), Jeannie Erves-Burrs (Ken) and Dorothy Erves of Mesquite, Texas, Fredonia Erves-Wilder (Rufus), of Lansing, Illinois, and his baby sister, Arlene Erves-Williams (Derek) of Chicago, Illinois; twenty-seven nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews; two aunts, Layauna Pearson Carson of Utica, Mississippi, and Victoria Pearson Moreland (Robert) of Houston, Texas; two uncles, Spencer Pearson (Enid) of Saginaw, Michigan, and David Pearson (Julie) of Wichitia, Kansas; and others, including the Erves, Watts, Williams and Pearson families. He also leaves to cherish his memory, the Adams family of Detroit, Michigan.

Ebonie N. Smith was born
on January 26, 1987, to Patricia Smith and the late Harry James Smith in Vicksburg, MS, and was one of five children. She departed this life on January 27, 2016 at her residence.
Ebonie attended Beechwood Elementary School, Vicksburg, Vicksburg Jr. High School, Vicksburg, High School and Jackson State University. She wrote articles for Vicksburg High Gator Gazette and worked at the Vicksburg Warren School District as a substitute teacher.
Ebonie accepted Christ at an early and became a member of Beech Grove M.B. Church. Her passion was reading, but she also loved writing and going to the movies.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry James Smith; her brother, Herman Robert Johnson; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Reynolds; Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of Vicksburg, MS.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Mrs. Patricia D. Smith of Vicksburg; one sister, Nakedria (Jamie) Wilson of Vicksburg, MS; two brothers, Marvin (Lisa) Johnson of Madison, MS and Sherman Johnson of Vicksburg, MS; and one nephew, Liam Elijah Wilson of Vicksburg, MS: a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives including the Reynolds, Smith, Johnson, Baker, Hill, McDaniels and Hatchett families.

Angela Toinette Thomas Stamps was born
on November 25, 1972, to the union of the late David E. Thomas, Jr. and Daisy Smith Thomas Taylor.
A native of Vicksburg, MS, she was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Angela attended school in the Vicksburg-Warren School District, and graduated from Warren Central High School in 1991. Upon graduation, she enrolled in Jackson State University. While attending JSU, she became a member of the Delta Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting.
While in college, she was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Resource Management (Finance and Accounting). After graduation, she accepted a position as an Accountant at Harrah’s Casino. Most recently, she served as Director of the Vicksburg High School Career Center – touching the lives of so many students, faculty, and staff.
Angela transitioned on Monday, January 25, 2016. She is preceded in death by: her mother, Daisy S. Thomas Taylor; maternal grandmother, Mary E. Smith; maternal grandfather, Evans Smith and West Brown; her father, David E. Thomas, Jr.; paternal grandfather, David E. Thomas, Sr.; uncle, John H. Thomas; and aunt, Ca”Lannye Thomas.
She was abundantly blessed, and left loving memories to be cherished by: one daughter, I’Sheana B. Stamps and one son, Cameron I. Stamps (both of Vicksburg, MS); step-children: Iris Williams (Isaac) and Brandon Harper of Vicksburg, MS, and Joseph Durr of Jackson, MS: paternal grandmother, Caldonia Thomas; aunts: Alice Smith, LueBertha Crawford, Judy King, and Kara Johnson (all of Vicksburg, MS) and Diane Thomas (Scottsdale, AZ); uncle, Alfred Smith (Vicksburg, MS); god-daughter, Te’Leia Sanders; god-son, D’Von Dampier; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family including the Smith, Thomas, Stamps, Meeks, Cartwright, Hubbard, Regan, Jenkins, and Lowe families.

On a hot Mississippi summer day, September 6, 1979, a handsome 8 pounds and 5 oz. baby boy was born
in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Marcus Dion Ware was born
to his mother, Georgia A. Love. Marcus was blessed with a step-father when his mother married
Jeffery B. Kemp.
Marcus, "Buddy, " was a small boy with tons of energy. At the age of eleven years old, Marcus accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized by Rev. Thomas Bernard at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. He served faithfully on the Junior Usher Board for the majority of his adolescent life.
In junior high, Marcus had a huge growth spurt growing to 6'3 ". His family and friends gave him the nicknames "G 1" and "Big Tall, " but his favorite was "Superman." Marcus' body favored the superhero's tall and resilient physique.
Marcus was a graduate of Warren Central High School C, O 1998. He graduated from Hinds Community College in 2001 with his associate's degree. After Marcus graduated, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to attend Tennessee State University. Marcus loved Nashville and gained many friends during his years at Tennessee State. Marcus fell in love with the city and made Nashville his home.
Marcus loved to cook and eat. Preparing meals and engaging in great conversations made his job rewarding. Being a great listener was one of his best qualities. Marcus loved any and every one from all walks of life. He loved to laugh and spend time with his family and friends. He had a love for movies and bowling, also.
The Lord called Marcus home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
Marcus was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Love, and his brother, Leron Haggan. He leaves loving memories with his son Jasiah Dion Ware of Nashville, TN; parents Jeffery B. and Georgia A. Kemp of Vicksburg, MS; three sisters, Tremesha Ware, Kayla Kemp of Vicksburg, and Elizabeth Lindsey (Carlos) of Spring, TX; two brothers Marvin (SheJia) Ware and Melvin Ware of California; two grandmothers, Earline (Frank) Singleton and Louise Benton both of Vicksburg; his aunts Mary (Larry) Judge, Shirley A. (Gary) Cooper both of Vicksburg, MS. Marcus was blessed with an abundance of family members including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members from the Amos, Benton, Kemp, Ware, and Love families.

Grant Jones, Jr. was born
on August 13, 1961 to the late Grant Jones, Sr. and Martha Jones Lewis in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Grant accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Good Hope Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas pastored by Pastor Adolphus Barnett, Jr.
Grant entered eternal life on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg, Mississippi after a short illness.
Grant graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1980 and worked at Tyson Foods for 25 years until the time of his death.
Grant served in the United States Army from 1981 thru 1984 as an Equipment Records and Parts Specialist. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon, and Marksmen (Rifle).
Grant was preceded in death by: his father, Grant Jones, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Johnny Williams and Ola Mae Williams; and paternal grandparents, Ira Jones, Sr. and Lucille Jones; grandson, Christopher De'Mond Jones, Jr.
Grant leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Martha Lewis of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three children, Grant Jones, III, Christopher Jones, and Christal Jones, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two step-children, Sammie Lindsey of Houston, Texas and Tyiesha McGowan of Vicksburg, Mississippi; ex-wife and mother of his children, Alora McGowan; a special friend, Linda Rider of Marshall, Texas; two sisters, Brenda (Jacob) Love and LaWanda (Dwayne) Thomas, both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three brothers, Bryant (Marcus) Lewis of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Henry Jones and Jimmy (Cortney) Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas; twenty-one grandchildren; close friend Melva Tartleton and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Viola Gaines Scott, affectionately known as "Poe", was born
October 10, 1921 to Alfred and Lucille Foster-Gaines in Lorman, Mississippi. Mrs. Scott attended Gibbs School in Jefferson County. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend C. L. Franklin. As an adult, she and her husband moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi to better their lifestyles.
She was a member of the Usher Board of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, then the Mothers' Board. Later to be closer to her home, she moved her membership to King David #2 Baptist Church where she served on the Mothers' Board. Mrs. Scott was a former City Wide Usher until her health declined.
She was united in holy matrimony to Willie Scott, Jr. on March 3, 1941. She was a loving mother to five children. She was preceded in death by: her husband Willie Scott, Jr.; her son, Harold Reginald Scott; four brothers, Rudolph, Randolph, Booker T. and Rowan; six sisters, Hattie, Evelyn, Mae Etta, Lenora, Juanita and Johnnie.
Cherishing her memory are: her children, three daughters Dorothy Banks of Lorman, Mississippi, Ethel (Alvin) Davis of Salinas, California and Loretta (Larry) Brantley of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and one son, Danny Scott of Stone Mountain, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Anthony, Angela, Dwayne, Tracey, Jennifer, Harold, Jr., Reese, Erica, Eric and Joshua; twenty-one great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren (who warmly knew her as MaDear, Grandma and GG); a devoted extended family member, Dale Butler; and one beloved sister, Dorothy Spencer of Atchison, Kansas.

Sister Karen's life journey began on January 21, 1970. She was born
in Warren County to Robert and the late Alma Stewart.
At an early age, Karen confessed Christ and was baptized at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an active member and pianist, secretary for the Sunday School, and as an adult she served as the assistant secretary for the church.
Karen was employed with Staffing Solutions until her health began to fail. She bid her farewell to this life on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at home among loved ones.
She was preceded in death by: her mother and brother, Alma and Robert Stewart, Jr.
Karen was soft spoken, with a smile that could light up the world. She was a graduate of Vicksburg High School class of 1988. She also attended Alcorn State University, where she pursued a degree in Business Administration. There she was a member of the "Sounds of Dynamite Band".
She leaves to cherish fond memories, her son, James "Trey " Donald, III; one grandson, Javion Kyrie Donald (two weeks old); her father, Robert Stewart, Sr. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one sister, Betty Stevens of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two brothers, Stanley (Nicole) Stewart of Southhaven, Mississippi and Donnell (Jackie Ann) Stewart of Edwards, Mississippi; and two best friends that she cherished, Yolanda Lewis and Crystal Washington.
Karen was loved by many too numerous to name, and she will truly be missed. Our family takes comfort in knowing that she is with our heavenly father and that we will one day meet again.
