Michael Anthony Fields, Gwynn Oak, Maryland was born icon in Vicksburg, Ms to the union of Robert and Dollie (Wade) Fields. Christened in Bethel A.M.E Church, at the age 5 Dollie relocated her young child to New Orleans, La. With roots firmly in Vicksburg, Michael would visit often throughout his childhood uplifting the Lord in song with the Wade family Chorus at Bethel A.M.E Church and throughout the community. He would graduate in 1985 from Kennedy High School, New Orleans. A loyal and trusted friend, dedicated father and beloved husband and son, Michael enjoyed people and loved life. He was affiliated with
Pennsylvania A.M.E. Zion Church, Baltimore, Md.

Entering the Navy in 1987, Michael’s dedicated military service includes 13 years active duty and 11 years in the Navy and Army Reserves. At the time of his passing, he as a Petroleum Quality Assurance Sergeant (92L) with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 165th Quartermaster Group, Fort Belvoir, Va.

Finally relocating to Maryland in 2005 after living in Virginia, Florida and Georgia, Michael worked in the Employers Reporting Division of the Social Security Administration since 2007. He was also a Security Site Supervisor for Raytheon Company; and for the past year, owned a landscaping company.

Michael Anthony Fields was called home Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence in Gwynn Oak, Maryland. He -was 44 years old. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Fields, and grandparents, Calvin and Bertha Wade.

He is survived by an affectionate wife, Martha “Ella” Bullock-Fields; his three precious children: son, Robert, Gwynn Oak, Md. and daughters, Kristian, Atlanta, Ga, and Venea, Norfolk, Va; his loving mother and stepfather, Dollie and George Rankin, New Orleans, La; a supportive stepfather, Walter Harris, New Orleans, La; a grandmother, Maggie Fields, Vicksburg, Ms; beloved sisters Lori (Stan) Jenkins, Stockbridge, Ga; Shavon Fields, Chicago, Il; and Katrina Moore, Vicksburg, Ms; adored step sisters Lynette Morris, Valley Ranch, Tx and Beverly Johnson, Mesquite, Tx; a special niece Khloe Jenkins, Stockbridge, Ga; a number of aunts, Jeanne Brown, Patricia (Thomas) Sturgis, Ida (George) Bass, Edna (Thomas) Washington; Ruby (James) Wilson, all of Vicksburg; Sylvia Daniels and Alberta (John) Matthews of Shreveport, La; Gloria and Virginia Fields of Compton, Ca; and Joyce (Lonnie) Yates of Southaven, Ms; a host of cherished cousins and devoted in-Laws; and Long-term friends, John "Jay" Johnson, Freddie Myers, Reggie Stewart, Roger Dean and Dexter Gibbs.

A Time To Be born;

Bobby Jean (Carter) Smith was born icon August 7, 1946, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the late Sandy Carter, Sr. and Agnes (Brown) Carter.

A Time To Live:

Bobby Jean (BJ) grew up in Vicksburg, and confessed her acceptance of Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, at Locust Grove M.B. Church. BJ graduate from Rosa A. Temple High School in 1964, where she was a member of the basketball team. She attended Hinds Community College where she studied and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She performed her duties as a nurse to the Vicksburg community for 31 years. She also served her country in the U.S. Army from 1964-1969. BJ was blessed with three lovely daughters: Yolanda, Mary, and Cassandra.

A Time To Die:

The angels of heaven were called to the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on December 31, 2011 and, summoned BJ home to her eternal resting place. In addition to her parents a brother, Arthur "Pee Wee" Carter also preceded her in death.

A Time To Mourn:

BJ may be removed from this earthly place, but her love and her spirit will live on through those who will eternally cherish her memories; three daughters, Yolanda Kaye (Carter) Colon of Killeen, TX; Mary Emma Strong (Clifton) of Jackson, MS; and Cassandra Ann Lumpkin (Anthony) of Vicksburg, MS; three sisters, Agnes Ann Carter and Julia Marie Carter both of Vicksburg, MS; and Betty Davis of Jackson, MS; five brothers, Willie Lee Carter (Rosa), Sandy Carter, II (Grace), Joseph Carter (Inez), Charles Ellison Carter (Mary) and Julius Carter (Doris) all of Vicksburg, MS; six grandchildren; Ashley Nicole Fisher, Larry Donnell Prentiss III, Christopher Dewayne Prentiss, Jeffery Lee Fisher, Jr., Jalen Allen Lumpkin, and Nadia David Colon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Barbara James Newsome was born icon on December 22, 1960 to the late Williona and John L. James of Vicksburg, Mississippi. On Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, the angels of Heaven took her on her final flight into Heaven.

On May 8, 1989 she united in Holy Matrimony to Herbert Newsome.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Clover Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved from Vicksburg, Mississippi to Augusta, Georgia. She enhanced her skills in the medical field throughout her career. In 2006 she moved back to Vicksburg after the passing of her parents.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, the late Williona and John L. James; a brother, Jessie James; three aunts, Idella, Rose Lee and Sophia; two uncles, George and Rufus.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories; her husband, Herbert Newsome of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two daughters, Serena James-Corley (William N.M.) of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Olivia J. Newsome of Vicksburg, Mississippi; granddaughter, Tiannia M. Bradley of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; six sisters, Khristine (Wilbert) Doss, Thelma Washington Moran, Jacqueline James all of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Gloria James of Atlanta, Georgia, Betty James Tucker of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Louvina James Noble of Chicago, Illinois; three brothers, Melvin (Veronica) James of Augusta, Georgia, Willie (Rose) James and John L. (Alina) James, Jr. all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; five aunts, Katie Robinson of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Viola Neal of Utica, Mississippi, Laura Harried and Virginia Subject of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Adline (Ken) Smithsome of Rhode Island; a host of nieces, nephews, and the Robinson, McGriggs, Martin, Wilson, McGowan, Washington, Prentiss, Anderson, Reynolds, Neal, Burns, Gaskin, Fisher, Benard families and many, many, friends and family through Christ.

Andre was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gadi Dotson, uncle Nathaniel Dotson and sister Sharon Dotson.Andre was a member of Vicksburg Family Life Cathedral, where he volunteered with the media ministry. He had a passion for serving others even if it meant sacrificing himself. He was a true example of Christian love.Andre graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis. At Sumner, Andre was a star member of the track team. Upon graduation, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to Oklahoma State University. It was at Oklahoma State, he developed his passion for sports medicine. Following his dream to be an athletic trainer, Andre was given the opportunity to share his talent and love of sports with several colleges and universities, including Jackson State, Alcorn State and Tougaloo College. He worked many NYSP sports camps, but working the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA was the highlight of his career in sports medicine. During that summer, Andre was awarded the 'Most Outstanding Athletic Trainer' of baseball. He continued his career in sports while employed with the Jackson Senators baseball team and the Claiborne County School District. Andre was employed for almost seven years as athletic equipment manager at Jackson State University.

Floyd Hall, Jr. was born icon on May 5, 1926 in Warren County, Mississippi to Floyd Hall, Sr. and Lurlean Smith-Hall. He departed this life on October 17, 2016.

Brother Hall confessed Christ at an early age at King David Baptist Church, Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was a faithful member and later joined the Church of Christ on Culkin Road where he was a dedicated member until declining health set in.

Floyd was a Veteran of World War II, where he served honorably in Okinawa, Japan and state side.

He was preceded in death by two loving wives. Floyd leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, F. Gail Hall and Carmen R. Hamilton; two sons, Chester C. (Althea) Hall and Phil E. (Terry) Hall; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three step children, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gladys Lane was born icon December 23, 1938. She completed her transition on October 7, 2016.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Eddie Lane and a daughter, Joyce Allen Curtis.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Eddie D. Allen, Ollie Shelby, and one son, Andrew Boyd; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four god-daughters, Cynthia Moffett, her best friend Jessie Straughter, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Time To Be born:

On February 9, 1957, Marion and Melva Jean Woods were blessed with their seventh bundle of joy. The season for Leroy Everett Woods had just begun.

A Time To Live:

Brother Leroy Woods accepted Christ at an early age. He received his spiritual growth at Rose Hill Christian Church in Port Gibson, Mississippi under the leadership of Elder Anthony Gordon. As years progressed, Elder Walter Chambers became his spiritual guide.

In 1976, Leroy graduated from Port Gibson High School. Following graduation, he entered the work force. Leroy prided himself on being a prompt and diligent worker. He dedicated many years to: Port Gibson's Oil Works, Bruce Hardwood Floors, Letournean and finally, Vicksmetal Armco Associates where he completed working in 2012.

Leroy's final church home was Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He attended this sanctuary until his early demise.

A Time To Love:

Leroy met the love of his life, Eloise in 2002. They were united in holy matrimony on January 28, 2003.

A Time To Die:

Leroy Woods transitioned from his earthly home into his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

A Time To Mourn:

Leroy's loving memories will be cherished by: his loving wife, Eloise; children, Camellia, Clemmesha, Robert and Capetra (Orlando); grandchildren, Tazjah, D'Munntearrious, and Azariah; three sisters, Mary Ann (Arthor) Pryor, Vickie (Mormon) Leslie and Valerie Woods; five brothers, Carl (Cristell) Martin, John Woods, Ernest Woods, David Woods and Dennis (Patricia) Woods; four aunts, Joyce (John) Turner, Everdean Campbell, Addie (Harold) Pennington and Leviolet Rogers; two uncles, Booker T. On September 21, 1978, Mr. Robert Lyndel Miller was born icon to the late Leroy Christmas and Inetta Miller. Affectionately called “Bubba” by many family and friends, he was well known for his loving and giving spirit.

A Time to Live

Bubba confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Clover Valley M.B. Church. He attended the Vicksburg Warren Public School system and was a 1997 graduate of Warren Central High School. At Warren Central, Bubba was active in many school activities including the Warren Central Viking’s football team. On March 17, 2004, Bubba married icon Mozella Reed.

A Time to Die

On September 24, 2016, surrounded by those who loved him most, Mr. Robert Lyndel Miller, Sr., laid down his last heavy load and took his last journey to heaven. He was united with his father, Mr. Leroy Christmas and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ida Watts Alexander.

A Time to Weep and a Time to Mourn

Bubba leaves many to cherish loving memories including his wife Mozella Reed Miller; his two sons, Robert Lyndel Miller, Jr, and Jeremy Miller; his mother, Inetta Miller; three stepchildren, Brianta Williams, Benard Brooks, Jr. and Bershard Brooks; three sisters, Jeannette (George) Spratley, Denise (Gerald) Knight and Treccie (Milton) Freeman; four brothers, Kevin Miller, Reggie (Linda) Christmas, Daniel (Tammye) Christmas and Derrick (Audrey) Christmas; and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his mother-in-law, Ivera (CB) Kelly.

On Friday, September 9, 2016 God saw fit to choose a beautiful flower for his garden. He chose our mother, grandmother and friend Sarah Lee Nichols Pinkney, affectionately known as “Dear”.

Mrs. Sarah was born icon October 8, 1915 in Jefferson County, Mississippi to Elijah and Martha Nichols. She was educated in Warren County and Chicago, Illinois Public and Catholic School Systems. Mrs. Sarah retired from the Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church where she served with quiet dignity. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her passion was serving the Lord and fishing. In two thousand eleven she moved to New York with her daughters due to failing health, where she resided until she was called home. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, a son, four sisters and three brothers.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Millie Caldwell, Roosevelt, NY, Gloria Pinkney-Phillips (Ron), Hempstead, NY; one son, Samuel Pinkney Jr. (Shirley) Brandywine, MD; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
