Charles Edward Hudson was born
July 31, 1946 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. His mother, Essie Hudson and grandmother, the late Bertha Clark raised him in a Christian and loving home. He was baptized in the Baptist faith as a young teen at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Joe Williams and remained a member until his passing.
Charles was a member of the last graduating class of St. Mary's High School in 1964 after which he joined the United States Armed Service and did a tour of duty in the Vietnam War working in military intelligence. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and proceeded to join the United States Army Reserves for several years. In civilian life, Charles chose to reside in Vicksburg where he was employed by the Corps of Engineers and later the Department of Defense (DOD) in the position of off-set press supervisor until he retired in 1994. During his employment with both the Corps and DOD, he earned several awards for outstanding work performance. He enjoyed his work which produced several long term relationships that were maintained throughout his life.
Charles was the proud father of two daughters and a step daughter which brought immeasurable joy into his life. He loved his children and responded to his responsibility as a father with enthusiasm and care. His love for others was nowhere more strongly demonstrated than in the role he assumed as caregiver for his mother who became incapacitated in 2007. He valiantly and lovingly supervised her care with an attitude of total commitment to her well being. Even at his most physically challenged moments, he remained vigilant. For this she responded in ways that reflected their deep bond and love that prevailed until the end.
Charles deeply enjoyed cooking, but as his health deteriorated, he was forced to turn to activities demanding less physical taxation. Television offered him many hours of enjoyment and allowed him to live vicariously through the many cooking shows he watched. He was an avid viewer who enjoyed a broad range of topics from alligator hunting to political commentary. Bottom line, he was an unabashed "couch potato".
Charles was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bertha Clark.
On May 1, 2015, Charles departed this life. He leaves to mourn his passing: his mother, Essie Hudson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; sister, Barbara Hudson Smith of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters, Yolanda Renee Lewis, Ashley Hudson and Leslie Newton, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; grandchildren, Candice, Cameron, Jalen, Chris and D'Anthony; two nephews, Kevin Charles Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Kenneth James Smith of Denver, Colorado, along with a host of family and friends, including Earlean Johnson, Frank Johnson, Herman Campbell and Charlie Jean Newton.
