NATCHEZ - Services for Robert M. "Bobby" Powell, 67, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dana Goff officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Powell was born
Jan. 31, 1937, in Natchez, the son of Honor Robert and Daisy Frost Powell. He was a graduate of Natchez High School and LSU School of Banking. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran and was employed by City Bank and Trust Company and Louisiana Central Bank for many years. He was employed by Adams County as County Road Manager until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Starnes Powell of Natchez; sons, Robert Starnes Powell, John Michael Powell, both of Natchez, Robert Collen Powell of Macon, Ga., and Brandon Allen Powell of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Tracy Lynn Powell of Natchez; mother, Daisy Powell of Natchez; brothers, Roger S. Powell of Natchez and Lewis Powell and wife, Melissa, of Monterey, La.; and half-sister, Peggy Gonzales of Brownsville, Texas.
Pallbearers will be David Powell, Josh Powell, Nicky Myers, Mike McGehee, Harold Frost Jr., and Joel Guyer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dusty Powell, Employees of the Adams County Department of Road Management.
Walter M. Smith
Oct. 9, 1914 - Dec. 15, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Walter M. Smith, 90, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Diane Woodall officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born
Oct. 9, 1914, in Union Church, the son of Jesse and Ellen Berthena Wilkinson Smith. He was a member of the Harmony Lodge 1-State of Mississippi, Masonic Bodies, the Natchez Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star No. 75, Moose Lodge No. 1662, and Legion of Moose.
Survivors include his children, Donald M. Smith of Natchez and James W. Page of Baker, La.; grandchildren, Page C. Rigby, Don Smith Jr., DeShawn Renee Smith Skinner, Kail Page, Mary Alice Page, and Jorn Page; great-grandchildren, Rhett Skinner, Kendall Skinner, Colby Smith, Lane Smith, Preston Laseone, Allison Page, Kailin Page, Teddie Page, Courtney Page, Lyle James LeJeune, and Aaron Page; brother, Mack Smith of Crystal Springs; sister, Bell Ferrett of Lucedale; and a very special friend, Frances Hammond of Natchez.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Bradley, John Boyte, John O'Quinn, D. H. Carter Jr., John Cain, and L. E. McManus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Masonic Children's Home or Shriners Crippled Children Hospital.
Rev. James A. White
Sept. 26, 1913 - Dec. 8, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Rev. James A. White, 91, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will be in the Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Rev. White was born
Sept. 26, 1913, in Adams County, the son of the late Curtis and Mary White. He was a retired employee of Jefferson Davis Hospital. He was an associate minister of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Masonic Brother Lodge No. 2, and Missionary AMB Association of Adams County.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Eddie Lee White; and daughter, Claudia Mae Pharr.
Survivors include three daughters, Jimmy Lee, Geraldine Johnson, and Wanda Jenell Pharr of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Lucille Pollard of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Rev. Curtis White Sr. of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Samuel White Sr. of Natchez; 11 grandsons, five granddaughters; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Masons.
Dennis Howard McPhate
July 6, 1917 - Dec. 28, 2004
NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Dennis Howard McPhate, 87, of Vicksburg, formerly of Kingston Community, who died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg, will be 11 a.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
A time for visitation with the family will be held after the service at the home of Charles and Dora Blaney, 1200 Moose Lodge Road, Vidalia, La.
Mr. McPhate was born
July 6, 1917, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Columbus Vaughn and Arie Darsey McPhate. He lived most of his life in Natchez, working many years as shop foreman for Natchez Equipment Company. He also drove a tour bus for Hotard Bus Lines before retiring and moving to Vicksburg. He was a very devout Christian. He was a member of Bovina Baptist Church where he seldom missed a service. He was ordained as a deacon in 1954 at Immanuel Baptist Church, and then served at Southern Hills Baptist Church and Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Natchez. He was a World War II Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, wife of 61 years, Winnie Lazarus McPhate.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Van Cleave McPhate of Vicksburg; children, Katherine Oldenberg and husband, Rolly, of Lake Bruin, La., Dora Blaney and husband, Charlie, of Vidalia, La., Dennis "Buddy" McPhate and wife, Angie, of Natchez, Bob Van Cleave and wife, Mary, of Hattiesburg, and Charles Van Cleave and wife, Sonya, of Memphis, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Thomae and husband, R. W., and Charlene Miller; a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kippy Blaney, Wayne Oldenburg, Denny McPhate, John Oldenburg, Dee' De Daniels, Tanya Wells, and James McPhate.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to a charity of choice or Bovina Baptist Church Building Fund, Vicksburg, Miss.

Burial will be in the Second Union Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Gaines was born
Dec. 30, 1959, in Adams County, the son of Earline Gaines and the late Eddie Gaines Sr. He was a graduate of North Natchez High School Class of 1978. He was a former employee at Adams County Road Department and a member of Second Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Gaines; two sons, Terrance Mazique of Memphis, Tenn. and Antonio Gaines of Natchez; mother, Earline Gaines of Natchez; three brothers, Wardell Gaines and wife, Sherry, Eddie L. Mrs. Carroll was born
Aug. 10, 1919, in Natchez, the daughter of the late Mose and Wilhelmina Parker. She was a graduate of Alcorn State University and a retired teacher in elementary education.
Survivors include her husband, Marrion Carroll; two children, Ernest Carroll of Natchez and Linda Carroll and husband, Wilbert, of Natchez; five grandchildren, Tia Johnson, Mia Johnson, Marcheta Carroll, Charlene Carroll, and Ernest Carroll Jr., all of Natchez; five grandchildren, Markel King, Ashley Carroll, Latrice Carroll, Byran Carroll, and Antonio Green; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hill was born
Dec. 8, 1954, in Crystal Springs, the daughter of the late Lionel Berry and Juanita Vaughn Berry. She was a teacher for Centreville Academy. She was a member of the Centreville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Les Hill of Gloster; daughter, Lindsay Hill Bentley and husband, William, of Clinton, La.; brothers, Michael Berry and wife, Carolyn, of Natchez and Larry Berry and wife, Judy, of Hazelhurst; niece, Christy Pat; nephews, Eric Lee and Preston Berry.

Amanda Johnson Odoms
Jan. 25, 1944 - Dec. 27, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Amanda Johnson Odoms, 59, of Ferriday, La., who died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fayette, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Elder L. J. Bell and Elder Curtis Riggs officiating.
Burial will be in the Richland Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Odoms was born
Jan. 25, 1944, in Mississippi, the daughter of the late Charlie Johnson Sr. and Lillian Williams Johnson. She was a bus monitor for the Louisiana (Concordia Parish) School System. She was a Jehovah's Witness and enjoyed field service with her church. She loved people and was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnny Odoms; daughter, Karen Odoms; and brother, Ben Johnson.
Survivors include her children, Loretha Griffin Council of Fayette, Laura Harris of Ferriday, La., Lillian Griffin Sonia and husband, Michael, of Franklin, La., Jennifer Odoms Marin and husband, Kirk, of Atlanta, Ga., Otis Odoms and wife, Sue, of Loganville, Ga., Connie Odoms of Waukegan, Ill., Marzel Odoms of Oakbrook, Ill., David Odoms of Hermanville, Zel Odoms of Vicksburg, Johnny Odoms and Jomanda Odoms, both of Natchez; four brothers, Mantrael Jones of Ferriday, La., Charlie Johnson Jr. and wife, Denise, of Washington, D.
