Katie Holmes Farrier

Nov. 19, 1931-Dec. 24, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Katie Lucille Holmes Farrier, 73, of Natchez, who died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Faith Tabernacle with Pastor Pearlie Holmes officiating.

Burial will be in the Grove AME Church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home Ferriday.

Visitation is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mother Holmes Farrier was the fifth of twelve children born icon Nov. 19, 1931, in Stanton, to the late Charlie Thomas and Beulah Brady.

In 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Lampkin Holmes Sr. In early childhood, she accepted Christ and attended the Grove AME Church. She later received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. In May 1968 she moved to Houston, Texas and united with Evangelist Temple COGIC where she served faithfully under the leadership of Dr. Joe E. Nelson. After many years of service, the Lord led her back to her home in Natchez where she reunited with the Grove AME Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Lloyd Bailey, she served faithfully in numerous capacities including assistant Sunday school teacher, co-chair of the Hospitality department and president of the Missionary Society until the Lord called her home. Mother Holmes Farrier was a devoted mother whose love and compassion extended beyond her immediate family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Charlie Thomas and husband, Lampkin Holmes Sr., seven brothers, Joseph Thomas, James Brady, Pless G. Thomas, Albert Brady, Andrew Thomas, Moses Thomas, and John Thomas; daughter, Beulah Page and goddaughter, Yvonne Lyons.

Mother Holmes Farrier leaves to mourn and forever cherish her memory, her mother, Rev. Beulah Brady of Natchez; ten sons, Administrative Assistant Pastor Samuel Holmes and wife, Tilde, of Jacksonville, Ill., Lampkin Holmes Jr. and wife, Robbie, of Houston, Texas, Elder James E. Holmes and wife, Gladys, of Houston, Texas, Rev. Joseph T. Holmes and wife, Frances, of Athens, Tenn., Superintendent Pearlie L. Holmes and wife, Debra, of LaPorte, Texas, Elder John F. Holmes and wife, Ella, of Brookhaven, Elder Elijah C. Holmes of Natchez, Kenneth E. Holmes and wife, Ora, of Houston, Texas, Michael Holmes and Barbara Kemp of Houston, Texas, Lorenzo Holmes and wife, Ella Kaye, of Houston, Texas, Lillian Watson of Natchez; three brothers, Elijah Thomas and wife, Jeanette, of Chicago, Ill., Clyde Brady and wife, Willie, of Houston, Texas, and Wayne Porterfield and wife, Katie, of El Paso, Texas; three sisters, Johnette Hicks of Natchez, Mary Brown and husband, Louis, and Martha Brady of Houston, Texas; 38 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Thomas J. Ellington

March 29, 1926-Dec. 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Thomas J. Ellington, 78, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 10 a.m. today from Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Father David O'Connor officiating. Vocals will be provided by Mr. Ellington's grandson, Jason T. Ellington.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Ellington was born icon March 29, 1926, in Bude, the son of the late Augustus Eugene and Janie Elizabeth Kinnison Ellington. He served aboard the USS Louisville in the Pacific Theatre. He began work for the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg on May 13, 1946, where he was a boat operator. He worked for J. Elmer Vickers Towing Company for 40 years where he was a pilot and captain. He retired at age 68.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mabel H. Ellington of Natchez; daughter, Mary Ann Guilliams of Natchez; sons, Danny E. Ellington of Natchez and Thomas J. Ellington Sr. of New Orleans, La.; grandchildren, Chastity E. Tillman, Courtney E. Wheeler, Jason T. Ellington, Danny E. Ellington Jr. and Travis T. Ellington; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Casey, and Brittany Wheeler, Christian Ellington, W. Zachary Tillman, and Dylan Thomas Reynolds; sisters, Claudia Garrison of McCall Creek, Pearl Watson of Zachary, La., and Katherine Delaney of Meadville; brother, Charles E. Loper of Bude; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Danny E. Ellington, T. J. Ellington Jr., Earnest J. Ratcliff, Wesley W. Strong, Freddie Wheeler, and C. J. Perque.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Mary Basilica.

Edythe I. Seale

BROOKHAVEN - Services for Edythe I. Seale, 90, of Brookhaven, who died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, Beverly Health Care in Brookhaven, will be at 2 p.m. today at Concord Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the Concord Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Brookhaven Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the church.

Mrs. Seale was born icon Sept. 14, 1914, in Franklin County, Miss., the daughter of Julius Jerome Whittington and Effie Lenoir Buie Whittington.

She was a farmer, a member of Concord Baptist Church, taught beginner Sunday school for 30 years and was a member of the Franklin Womens Club and Independence Homemakers Club.

Mrs. Seale was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Norman Seale.

Survivors include her sons Charlie Seal and his wife Carole of McCall Creek, Miss., and Curtis Seale and his wife Esther of Madison, Miss.; grandchildren, Sherry Winstead and her husband Rod and Jerry Paul Seale and his wife Tracy all of Madison and Stephanie Bowlin and her husband the Rev. Ted Bowlin of Summit, Miss.; her sister, Kathleen Stamps of Mountain View, Ark.; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearl G. McGivaren

June 8, 1923 - Dec. 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Pearl G. McGivaren, 81, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at University Medical Center, will be at 6 p.m.. Monday in Stratton Chapel of the Natchez First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Larson officiating.

Mrs. McGivaren was born icon June 8, 1923 in Lumberton, Miss., the daughter of Lloyd and Ruby Parris Gieger.

She was active in Health and Hospitalization Insurance sales. She was a member of the Natchez First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her sons, J.M. "Mick" McGivaren of Ocean Springs, Miss., R.P. "Pat" McGivaren of Rome, Ga., and T.G. "Tim" McGivaren of Natchez; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her brother Doyle Gieger of Gautier, Miss.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Elevator Fund.

Helen Anders Rodgers

Sept. 26, 1920 - Dec. 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Helen Anders Rodgers, 84, of the Kingston community, who died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m.. today at the Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Burial will follow at Jersey Settlers cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rodgers was born icon Sept. 26, 1920 in Amite County, Miss., the daughter of Mikal and Opal Walker Anders.

Survivors include her son, Lonnie "Sonny" Rodgers of Natchez; grandchildren, Mikal Rodgers and wife Sandy of Natchez, Rachelle Pahnka and husband Joey of Natchez, Casey Rodgers of Baton Rouge, La., and Mary Ann Rodgers of Natchez; five great grandchildren and her sister Peggy Bourdin of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Butch Butler, Casey Rodgers, Braxton Gray, Mike Logan, Edward Bourdin and John Weatherly.

Larry Burt will be an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Bob Earl Blackwell

July 31, 1951 - Dec. 19, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Bob Earl Blackwell,53, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2004, in Natchez, will be at 1 p.m.. today at Melrose Church of Christ with Brother Michael Hoggatt officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Mark Baptist Church cemetery on the Natchez Trace, under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Mr. Blackwell was born icon July 31, 1951 in Natchez, the son of Josephine Blackwell.

Self-employed, Mr. Blackwell was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his son Adrian Blackwell of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter Sr. Airmen Keatris Johnson and her husband Treon of Glen Burnie, Md.; stepson Tech Sgt. Vandrealun Durrell of Okinawa, Japan; mother Josephine Blackwell of Natchez; a devoted ex-wife Linda Blackwell-Wolfe of Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Edna Smoot of Dallas, Aline Mazique, Pamela Blackwell and Jackie Blackwell all of Natchez; brothers, Jimmy Blackwell of Lancaster, Calif., Larry Blackwell and Dwayne Blackwell both of Natchez; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be made up of friends and family.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.

Marcus Conrad Bennett

Graveside services for Marcus Conrad Bennett, 52, of Jonesville, La., who died Friday, Decemebr 24, 2004, at Rapides General Medical Center in Alexandria, La., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Jena cemetery, Jena, La. The Brother Billy Edwards will be officiating under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Youngs Funeral Home, Jonesville.

Beatrice Hollins

WOODVILLE - Services for Beatrice Hollins, 42, of Woodville, Miss., who died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2004, will be at noon Monday at St. Matthew Baptist Church #2, Woodville, with the Rev. Allen Scott officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodstock cemetery, Woodville, under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Woodville.

Mrs. Hollins was born icon Jan. 1, 1962 in Wilkinson County, Miss., the daughter of Carroll Haynes and Mary E. Hollins

Mrs. Hollins was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Nancy Hollins, and her paternal grandparents, Nolden and Viola Haynes.

Survivors include her daughter Brandy Hollins of Woodville; mother Mary E. Hollins of Woodville; father Carroll Haynes of Baton Rouge, La.; grandson Derrick Wells Jr.; sisters, Barbara Jean Hollins and Shirley Fisher both of Woodville and Alexis Haynes of Brooklyn, N.Y., brothers, Forest and Kermit Hollins both of Woodville, Tyrone, Audry and Cecil Haynes all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Carl Haynes of Baton Rouge, La.; special friend Joe L. Honorary pallbearers will be Forest Hollins, Kermit Hollins, Webbie Hollins, Richard Hollins, Willie Lane, Leonard Hollins and Elmo Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.today at Rollins Funeral Home in Woodville.

Hugh Glendon Flowers

Sept. 10, 1937-Dec. 22, 2004

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Hugh Glendon Flowers, 67, who died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Kenner, La., will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating.

Mr. Flowers was born icon Sept. 10, 1927, in Foules, La., the son of the late Otto and Mamie Flowers. He was retired from Armstrong Tire Company and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Mr. Flowers' body has been donated to the Louisiana State Medical Center at his request.

Survivors include daughters, Pam McCann and husband, Mark, of Natchez and Gloria Lynn Flowers of Ridgeland; sons, Kevin Flowers and wife, Mary, of Natchez and Allen Flowers of Hattiesburg; five grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Flowers, Jessie and Elliott McCann, and Charles Flowers; brother, Walter Flowers of Denver, Colo. and sister, Pat Cole of Picayune.

Memorials may be made to the Cathedral School Endowment Fund, P. O. Box Q, Natchez, Miss. 39120.

Helen Anders Rodgers
