Natale Adair "Nate" Salvo Jr.

JACKSON - Funeral Mass for Natale Adair "Nate" Salvo Jr., of Jackson, who died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at his home, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Richard Catholic Church of Jackson.
Burial will be in Parkway Memorial cemetery in Ridgeland under the direction of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home of Ridgeland.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Salvo was born
Dec. 27, 1923, in Natchez, the son of the late Natale Adair Salvo Sr. and Philene O'Neil Salvo.
He was a 1940 graduate of Cathedral High School. He attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. and graduated from L.S.U. in Baton Rouge, La. in 1947 with a B. S. degree in accounting. In 1965 he graduated Cum Laude from the Jackson School of Law.
He was a veteran of World War II where he served as First Lieutenant Field Artillery Officer and Liaison Pilot with duty in the Philippine Islands and Japan.
In 1947 Mr. Salvo joined Dick D. Quin, a CPA firm in Jackson. Later he formed his own CPA firm and retired in 1999 after over 50 years of service. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Miss. Society of Certified Public Accountants, past President of the Central Chapter of MSCPA's, Miss. State Bar, past President of the Fondren Civitan Club, a Boy Scout leader, an alumnus of Gamma lota Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity and was a member of other and charitable organizations.
He will be missed at St. Richard Catholic Church where he was a charter member and regular communicant. He served on numerous committees and also as a Lay Pastoral Minister. He truly loved his church and was a real example of his faith.
Most would say that Nate was a workaholic but he found time for tennis, studying history and genealogy research. His main love, interest and concern was his family.
To know Mr. Salvo you knew of his love for his family, friends, church and community. He was a kind, gentle man who put others needs first.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Salvo Garner and brother, George Sullivan.
He will forever be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred "Midge" Windham Salvo; son, Nate A. (Jan) Salvo III of Terry; daughters Patricia Salvo (Bill) Powers of Madison and Cheryl Salvo (Bob) Lester of Madison; grandchildren, Will E. (Klaire) Powers of Dallas, Texas, Brian A. (Monica) Powers of Diamondhead, Christopher P. Powers of Madison, Jeffrey N. (Cassie) Salvo of Ridgeland, David A. Salvo of Terry, Rob A. Lester Jr. of Madison, Adams A. (Kim) Lester of Jackson, Kelly P. Lester of Madison, and Ashley A. Lester of Madison; great-grandchildren, Bailey Salvo, Abigail Salvo, Brooklyn Lester, McCabe Powers, Emma Powers, Grady Powers, Hayden Lester; and numerous nieces and nephews, numerous extended family members and friends.

Bessie Mae Palmer
WOODVILLE -- Services for Bessie Mae Palmer, 89, of Woodville, who died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Baptist Church in Woodville with the Rev. Robert Sullivan officiating.
Burial will be at East Cedar Rest under the direction of Webb Funeral System.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. The procession will leave from 39 Cherry St. at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Palmer was born
Aug. 4, 1915, in Woodville, the daughter of John and Helen Bolden. She was a Baptist and was retired from the Wilkinson County School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Richard Palmer; seven sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include one son, Richard Jarvis; a brother, Charles Bolden; five sisters, Alma Jones, Edna Stirgus, Ruth Turner, Louvenia Brown and Olevia Smith; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Walter Brown Jr., Tyser Brown Sr., Charles Bolden Jr., Dedric Brown, Ardis Jones Jr., James Brown Sr., Ka-Ron Hardin, Wasner Jenkins and Robert Stirgus.
Tena Theresa Carpenter

Mrs. Carpenter was born
Nov. 23, 1959, in Independence, La., the daughter of Bill Maxie and Dee Badeaux Maxie.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David P. Brown.
Survivors include her husband, Randy Carpenter of Crowley; a stepdaughter, Nicole Bruno of Crowley; her parents, Bill and Dee Badeaux Maxie of Natchez; four sisters, Eva Mayer and husband Michael of Metairie, La., Jarri Matise and husband Chris of Metairie, Velma Heidel and husband Rob of Natchez, and Debbie Freeman and husband Jewel of Baton Rouge; a brother, Billy Maxie Jr. and wife Marsha of Natchez; and a grandson, Logan Bruno.
Pallbearers will be Randy McCullum, Rob Heidel Jr., Michael Heidel, Billy Maxie Jr., Kenny Wagoner and Billy Maxie III.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Bozeman and James Huff.

PORT GIBSON -- Services for Willie James Jackson Sr., 85, of Hermanville, who died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Welcome Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Horace McBride officiating.
Burial will be at St. Phillips cemetery in Pattison under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Rollins Chapel in Port Gibson.
Mr. Jackson was born
Aug. 25, 1918, in Claiborne County, the son of Tom Jackson and Virginia Graves He was a retired saw mill worker with Southern Lumber Co. and was a member of trustee at St. Phillips AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ethel Mae Jackson; one son, Tom Jackson; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include four sons, James (Earnestine) Jackson Jr., Ivry Jackson and Lyndon B. (Lavonne) Jackson, all of Hermanville, and Webbie Lee (Barbara) Jackson of Seattle; three daughters, Ethel (Percy) Robinson of Port Gibson, Annie Stewman (Oliver) Henderson of Tacoma, Wash., and Charlean (George) Johnson of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Rosie Seed of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 29 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Eric Jackson, Michael Jackson, Dexter Anderson, Eddie Myles, Jimmie Burrell and Keith Burrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Darrington Robinson, Nelson Green, Ryan Maddox, Robert Terrell, Percy Robinson and Oliver Henderson.

NATCHEZ -- Private graveside services for Josephine Guercio Serio of Gautier will be held at Natchez City cemetery.
Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Serio was born
on Sept. 29, 1919, in Hattiesburg. She lived most of her life in Natchez and had been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for eight years.
She was a graduate of Cathedral School in Natchez and attended Ursaline College in New Orleans. She was the former owner of the Italian Kitchen and Crossroads Grocery in Natchez. She was a member of St. Mary Basilica.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Gattis Cowley and S. Frank Serio; her parents, Angela and Salvatore Guercio; her brothers, Thomas Guercio, Joe Guercio and Jake Guercio; her sister, Elizabeth Guercio; and her son, Charles Gattis Cowley.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Allen and Paulette Hoggatt of Gautier; three grandchildren, Allison Hoggatt, Matthew Hoggatt and Tiffany Easley; and her sister, Rose Guercio Cozzani of Vicksburg.

CROSBY - Services for Mildred Hancock Rushing, 87, of Crosby, who died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 in Picayune, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crosby Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hollowell.
Burial will be in the Roseland cemetery in Gloster under the direction of Brown Funeral Home of Gloster.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Crosby Baptist Church in Crosby.
Mrs. Rushing was born
June 2, 1917, in Smith County, the daughter of Troy Hancock and Allie Gatewood Hancock.
She was a retired postal clerk and a life long resident of Crosby.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rushing; her parents; and three brothers, Raymond Hancock, Rudolph Hancock, and Phillip Glenn Hancock.
Survivors include three daughters, Lynn (Gene) Gumfory of Denton, Texas, Mary (Gilbert) Isbell of Picayune, and Roberta (Harry) Holt of Little Rock; one grandson, Robert (Margaret) Lewis of Jackson; two sisters, Frances Orso of Crosby, Thelma Remmy of Greensboro, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

PATTISON - Services for Annie Mae Wilson, 74, of Port Gibson, who died Monday, August 16, 2004, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Christian Church with Elder E. Harris officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Luke cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Rollins Funeral Homes, Inc.
Visitation is from 12 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with family hour from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
Mrs. Wilson was born
July 9, 1930, in Claiborne County, the daughter of the late Nelson Shanks and Clara Pelmore.
She was a retired teacher with Claiborne County Public Schools, and was a member of St. Luke Christian Church.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Wilson; one son,, Mackentye Wilson; and grandson, Glenn Wilson, Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Wilson and Mal Wilson, both of Port Gibson; three daughters, Cynthia Bailey, Fay Davis, and Sonja Lee, all of Raymond; two brothers, George Shanks of Chicago, Ill. and James Wilson of Port Gibson; three sisters, Dora Wren and Shirley Jones, both of Port Gibson, and Mary Shanks of Chicago,; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
