Margaret Ware Hill
Oct. 6, 1935 - Feb. 1, 2004
NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Margaret "Punky" Ware Hill, 68, who suddenly passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her home in Portland, TX, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Larson officiating.
Visitation for all family, friends and guests will follow at the Ware residence at 120 Seargent S. Prentiss Dr.
Final interment will be in the Natchez City cemetery in a private service for the family.
Mrs. Hill was born
Oct. 6, 1935, in El Dorado, AR and grew up in Natchez.
She graduated from LSU in 1958 where she met and later married
Robert A. F. "Bob" Hill. Three children were born
to this union, Robert Ware Hill, deceased, Philip Charles Hill of Portland, TX and Margaret Hill Davidson of Taft, TX.
She was Queen of the Natchez Pilgrimage before being moved to South Texas. Subsequently, she became involved with the United Cerebral Palsy as a volunteer in many capacities. She was a part of many social organizations. Her unique talents for dealing with difficult issues resulting in a positive outlook have touched the lives of many of her friends. She was be survived by many Margaret Hill stories.
Survivors also include five grandchildren, Carrie, Randy and Jessica Hill and Joe and Angelica Davidson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Margaret's name to a charity of ones choice.
Edward Wallace, Jr.
Sept. 15, 1929 - Feb. 13, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Edward Wallace, Jr., 74, of Natchez, who died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at George F. West Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willie Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of the funeral home.
Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Wallace was born
Sept. 15, 1929, in Allegheny, PA, the son of Edward Wallace, Sr. and Elizabeth Fitzgerald.
Elizabeth Doering Green
April 11, 1911 - Feb. 15, 2004
NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Elizabeth Doering Green, 92, of Durham, NC formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Durham, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Mr. Bryant Reed officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Green was born
April 11, 1911, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of August Edward Doering and Annie Hootsell Doering.
She worked as a registered nurse at Chamberlain-Rice Hospital and at the Natchez Sanatorium, however her favorite occupation was wife to Ernest J. Green, a mother and homemaker. She was a member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, one sister and an infant daughter.
Survivors include son, Ernest J. Green, Jr. of Lango Vista, TX; daughters, Martha Sue (Allen) Renfrow of Wilder, Idaho and Patricia (Jim) Mullins of Durham; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Meridith "Polly" Glover
Aug. 11, 1924 - Feb. 16, 2004
NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Meridith "Polly" Glover of Natchez, who died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. today at Natchez City cemetery with the Rev. David McGuffee officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Glover was born
Aug. 11, 1924, in Natchez, the daughter of Oliver Burt and Vera Blades Burt.
Mrs. Glover was preceded in death by her husband, R. J. Glover and one grandchild.
Survivors include her son, James E. Watts and wife, Barbara of Natchez; three sisters and one brother; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Torrey Daniel Boyd
Aug. 22, 1980 - Feb. 15, 2004
MEADVILLE - Services for Torrey Daniel Boyd, 23, of Meadville, who died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. today at Meadville Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Midway cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 8 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Boyd was born
Aug. 22, 1980, in Amory, the son of Trooper Armstrong Boyd and Nell Torrey Bolt.
Marguerite M. Roberts
RIDGELAND - Services for Marguerite McKinney Roberts, 84, who died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel of Ridgeland.
Burial will be in Parkway Memorial cemetery under the direction of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home of Ridgeland.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Augustine Boyd Mackel
April 25, 1928 - Feb. 13, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Augustine Boyd Mackel, who died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.
Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Mackel was born
April 25, 1928, the daughter of James (Rat) and Susie (Juitt) Boyd.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of Christian Hope Baptist Church and truly loved her church family.
She attended Brumfield High School in Natchez, until the 8th grade. During her tenure there she was a member of the school band and was head majorette. She then moved to Pine Bluff, AR, where she graduated from J.C. Carbine High. She furthered her education at Arkansas State University in Pine Bluff. She was a member of the band, both in high school and college, where she once again served as majorette.
She was an educator with the A.J.F.C. Program Head Start, and also worked with the Manpower/Montessori Educational toys Program, Fayette, where she helped design an educational black vinyl doll that is on display at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. For a short time she was employed at Kent's Department Store in Natchez. Augustine loved collecting cookbooks and all kinds of jewelry, crocheting, cooking, telling jokes, working word puzzles, and making things with her children and grandchildren. But most of all she loved people. She was a loving, giving, free-hearted person. If you ever visited her home, you did not leave empty-handed. She always had trinkets or sweets to five and laughter/smiles for all.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband, Mr. Walter B. Mackel, Sr.; one son, Walter B. Mackel, Jr.; seven daughters, Gail (Jerry) Scott of Murgreesboro, TN, Brenda Anderson of Natchez, Geraldine (Dwight) Haynes of Roxie, Esther Mackel of Natchez, Renee (Robert, Sr.) Dawson of Natchez, Linda (Leon, Sr.) Washington of Roxie, Joyce (Alvin) Hauer of Monroe, LA; two aunts, Alice Burton, of Detroit, MI and Mildred (Johnnie, Sr.) Johnson of Pine Bluff, AR; an uncle, Johnnie Brown, Sr. of Sibley; two brothers, Clarence (Marilyn) Lee of Temecula, CA and James (Vicki) Lewis of Natchez; eight sisters-in-law, Charlotte Harrison of Lawrenceville, GA, Selma (Alexander, Sr.) Washington of Vidalia, LA, Lucille Mackel, Dorothea Mackel, Althea Grinnell, Mary C. Lee, all of Natchez, Yvonne Mackel of Chicago, IL and Birdie Lyons of Los Angeles, CA; a special cousin, Carolyn Cubie; special friends, Ruby (Harry) Gaylor and Mildred Grimble of Natchez; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Scott, Dwight Haynes, Sr., Robert Dawson, Sr., Leon Washington, Sr., Alvin Hauer and Michael Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert W. Harrison, III, Charles Harris, Jr., Michael Mackel, Ralph Jennings, James Berry, Darryl Grennell, Dr. Alexander W. Washington, Jr., Timothy Warren, Sr., Edward Mackel, Jr., John Lee Albert, Bernard Squalls and Ricky Gray.
Elizabeth Doering Green

Francis Samuel "Sam" Gray
July 11, 1943 - Feb. 12, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Francis Samuel "Sam" Gray, 60, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Pastor William Gassett officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Gray was born
July 11, 1943, in Natchez, the son of John Spraggin Gray and Ruby Earl Watson Gray.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Natchez.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Gray of Slidell, LA; sons, Derreck Gray of Natchez and Dayton Gray of Slidell; daughter, Shannon Goetzman and husband, Robert of Picayune; grandchildren, Lauren Goetzman, Chad Goetzman, Ashley Goetzman, Lexie Joseph and Cole Gray; brothers, John Gray and wife, Shirley of Natchez and Thomas Gray and wife, Dorothy of Plainview, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Christina Storslett of Sakhalin, Russia; step-son, Malcolm Joseph, Jr. Slidell.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Fammie Williams
NATCHEZ - Services for Fammie Williams, 56, who died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Sinia Baptist Church in Sibley under the direction of Webb Funeral System.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Jones and Allen Luss, Sr.
Survivors include one son, Troy Allen; seven brothers, Cornelius Williams, Isiah Williams, Joseph Williams, George Williams, Willie Butler and Allen Luss, Jr.; six sisters, Charity Washington, Gloria McCoy, Barbara Sewell, Cheryl Jones, Pamela Payne and Willie Mae Luss; and a number of uncles, aunts and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Issac Byrd
Jan. 1, 1909 - Feb. 8, 2004
UNION CHURCH - Graveside services for Issac Byrd, 95, of Franklin County, who died Sunday Feb. 8, 2004 at the Jefferson County Nursing Home in Fayette, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cool Springs cemetery in Union Church.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Rollins Funeral Home.
Mr. Byrd was born
January 1, 1909 in Franklin County, the son of Issac Byrd, Sr. and Rosie Byrd. He was a logger and a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lucille Helm.
Survivors include two sons, Norris (Margaret) Lias of Zachary, La. and Jeffery Ivory Baker of Fayette; a brother, Ron Byrd of Quentin; a grandson, Trevin Lias of Zachary, La.; Mary Dent and Regine Reed of Fayette; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Susan Inez Ferguson
PHILADELPHIA - Funeral services for Susan Inez Ferguson, 85, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McClain-Hays Chapel with the Rev. Benny Alford and the Rev. Brown officiating.
Burial will be at Sandtown cemetery in Neshoba County with Barrier McClain-hays Funeral Service, Inc., in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ferguson resided in natchez for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church and a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. "Dutch" Ferguson; and a son, Samuel Gary Ferguson.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Birkelback of Bellville, Texas and Barbara Ann Stokes of Liberty; two sons, W. Perry Ferguson of Natchez and T. Vestal Ferguson of Wisner, La.; three sisters, Ellie Ree Seale of Philadelphia, Earsel Bener of Las Vegas, Nevada and Everlyn McCasdle of Gulfport; four brothers, Hubbard Alford and Tom Alford of Philadelphia, Dezmon Alford of Madison and Austin Alford of Mobile, Ala.; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
