NATCHEZ - Services for Walter Washington, 74, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Plain Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy White officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Plain cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Mr. Washington was born
July 30, 1929, in Adams County, the son of the late Eugene Washington, Sr. & Pearlina Green.
He retired from Natchez Gravel Company after 50 years, and was later employed by Quinn Logging. He was a member of Mt. Plain B.C. and Vice President of the Mt. Plain usher board.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie L. Washington; mother, Pearlina Green; five children, Betty J. Chatman, Pearl M. Washington, Fayola Stewart, Gradye (Charles) Wallace, Sgt. Terry Washington; adopted son, Jay D. Washington; Eight grandchildren, Five great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be the Sportman's Hunting Club.

James H. Carter
NATCHEZ - Services for James H. "Jimmy" Carter, 90, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at The Magnolia House, were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel where Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiated.
Burial was at the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Carter was born
Jan. 22, 1913, in Natchez, the son of H.W. and Betty Godbold Carter. He was a former Adams County supervisor for 31 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hattie Mesick; and a brother, Webb Carter Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Burns Carter of Natchez; a son, Jimmy Boy Carter of Natchez; a daughter, Bonnie E. Carter of Madison; three stepchildren, Charles Carter of Ferriday, La., Patrick Carter of Natchez and Kathy Barr of Natchez; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Ray Carter, Tim Jackson, Patrick Carter, Peter Trosclair, Sammy Cauthen and Hillary Mesick.

NATCHEZ - Services for Alma Carter Fletcher, 96, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at her residence, were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.
Burial was in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fletcher was born
Jan. 13, 1908, in Calvin, LA, the daughter of William Silas and Della Mixon Carter, Sr.
She was a Luzier Cosmetic Consultant and retired after 48 years of service.
Mrs. Fletcher was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Evan C. Fletcher; five brothers, Wesley Carter, Arvil Carter, Edmond Carter, William S. Carter, Jr. and Jepp Dayton Carter; two sisters, Lois Dickerson and Annie Mae Fowler.
Survivors include daughter, Ruth Fletcher Latham and husband, George of Natchez; three sons, William E. Fletcher of Clinton, Paul D. Fletcher and wife, Jill of Ocean Springs and James C. Fletcher of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Scott Fletcher and wife, Donna of Nashville, TN, Stacy Fletcher of Orlando, FL, Joan Fletcher Moore and husband, Brett of Denver, CO, Lacy Fletcher Fox and husband, Ken of Daleville, AL and Karen Latham O'Quinn and husband, Joey of Natchez; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Bonnette and Colleen Carpenter.

Clara H. Chamberlain
Aug. 19, 1911 - Jan. 18, 2004
The Natchez community has been saddened by the death on Sunday, January 18, of Clara Harrison Chamberlain, 92. Miss Chamberlain was the daughter of Dr. John Chamberlain and Mabel Harrison Chamberlain and the great granddaughter of Dr. Charles Thomson Chamberlain, one of this area's earliest physicians.
A service in her memory will be held on Thursday, January 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Brock Watson.
She was born
in Natchez on August 19, 1911. After graduating from Natchez High School she attended Belhaven College and received her degree from Louisiana State University. She spent her career as a teacher and librarian in the Natchez Public Schools.
Miss Chamberlain served on the Board of Directors of the Natchez Children's Home where her visits were always happily anticipated by the boys and girls who made it their home. She spent countless hours over the years tutoring, and reading to the children there, sponsoring many of them throughout all their school days.
She played the piano and taught Sunday School for years to the children's classes at First Presbyterian Church where she was a lifelong member.
Her charitable and civic involvements also included a term on the board of the Salvation Army, volunteering at Natchez Regional Hospital as a Pink Lady, serving meals at the Community Stew Pot and operating the switchboard at City Hall. She was very active in the work of the Associated Charities organization and was a member of the Natchez Garden Club.
Miss Chamberlain is survived by a number of cousins and by a host of loving friends, former students and residents of the Natchez Children's Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Natchez Children's Home or to a charity of choice.
Eula Phipps Rutherford
June 22, 1918 - Jan. 19, 2004
GLOSTER - Services for Eula Phipps Rutherford of Centreville, who died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Wilkinson County Nursing Center, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Gloster with Bernard Waites and Coleman Allmond officiating.
Burial will be in Enlow cemetery in Crosby under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rutherford was born
June 22, 1918, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Dave Phipps and Dottie Ashley Phipps.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Corinth Church of Christ.
Mrs. Rutherford was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James Verlis Wisner; second husband, Dewey Ashley; one daughter, Margaret Wisner Arnold; six sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Earl J. Rutherford of Centreville; one son, Glendol Wisner and Melba of Natchez; five grandchildren, Sherry Arnold of Gloster, Ronnie Arnold, Carla Allgood, Cindy Roberts and Glen Wayne Wisner, all of Natchez; 12 great-grandchildren, Stacy Hastings of Gloster, Daniel Wisner, Sarah Wisner, Kalya Wisner, Amanda Roberts, Wesley Roberts, Megan Roberts, Jessica Krueger, Kimberly Calvitt, Justin Allgood, Haley Freeman and Krystal Arnold, all of Natchez; a number of nieces and nephews; two great-great-grandchildren, Bradley and Wesley Hastings of Gloster.
John Brunson Montgomery
CALIFORNIA - MSgt. John Brunson Montgomery, U.S.M.C. (Ret) received his final orders on January 17th 2004. He was in Natchez, Ms. on January 9, 1944. He devoted 22 years to the service of his country, from 1961 to 1982, receiving numerous awards and citations for bravery and excellence. His service included 2 tours in Vietnam, deployment to the Bay of Pigs as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis and retired from service at Camp Pendleton in 1982.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) Montgomery and Martha Lamacchia Montgomery formerly of Natchez, Ms., and his brother, Robert Lee Montgomery III.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathleen Green Montgomery of Vista, CA, 2 sons, John Brunson Montgomery Jr. of Folsom, La. and Shane J Montgomery of Vista, Ca., and 3 daughters, Stacey Montgomery of Abita Springs, La., Tanya Corbin of Carlsbad, Ca., and Sonya Webb of Greensburg, Pa., 1 sister, Elizabeth Drake of Houston, Tx. and 2 brothers, James P. Montgomery of Lafayette, La., and William Montgomery of Meraux, La., and 2 grandchildren, Taylor Garcia and Brielle Webb of Greensburg, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews.
After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he served the community of Vista as an insurance broker for 20 years, as a member of the Citizens Budget Committee, as a PTA volunteer at Bobier Elementary and as a coach for the Vista America Little League for 5 years.
His favorite pastime was billiards, achieving Top Shooter in North County in 2002.

Easlia Myles Conley
Easlia Myles Conley, 48, of Chicago, IL formerly of Natchez, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Chicago.
Mrs. Conley was the daughter of the late James Myles, Sr. and the late Easlia Townsend Myles.
She was educated at Malcolm X College and received her food service degree and certificate of developmental acheivement CDA. She was employed at the Y.M.C.A. Day Care Center.
Survivors include her husband, Elder Raymond Conley; one son, George E. Myles of Chicago; nine step-children; three sisters, Lydia Myles of MN, Easter Knight of Natchez and Jessie Johnson of IL; one brother, James Myles, Jr. of VA; two devoted friends, Leola Fitzgerald and Rosaline Perkins, both of Natchez; other relatives and friends; and one uncle, William H. Myles of Natchez.

Ms. Allen was born
March 17, 1934, in Franklin County, the daughter of Nora Allen Sr. and Weota Blackmon Allen.
She was a retired janitor with Franklin County Schools and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Kirby and the Mother's Board.
Ms. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one daughter.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Michael Devault Sr. of Fayette; three sisters, Lizzie Allen of Kirby, Lillie (Gene) Stampley of Fayette and Bessie (M.E.) Felton of Hamburg; three brothers, Nora Allen Jr., Jacob (Margaret) Allen and C.L. (Vera) Allen, all of Kirby; four aunts, Gladys Williams of Clayton, LA, Nellie Johnson of Brookhaven, Bessie Cockerham of Metarie, LA and Ella Elliot of New Orleans, LA; three grandchildren, Audrey, Aubrey and April Devault of Fayette; and a number of nieces and nephews.
