NATCHEZ - Services for Byrline Elizabeth Klar, 71, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 21, 2003, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Klar was born icon Aug. 27, 1931, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Rosa Lee Barnette Ballard.

She was a member of Natchez First Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Dwight Swain of Natchez; daughter, Deborah Ratcliff of Natchez; granddaughter, Tanya Unger of Alburquerque, NM; grandson, Martin Ratcliff of Natchez; sisters, Bernice Jenkins of Sun, LA and Bessie Kyzar of Ruth; brother, Chester Ballard of Ferriday, LA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bill Murray, Joe Murray, Gary Ballard, John M. Brown and Charles Kees.

Bennie Jones, Sr.

Funeral arrangements for Bennie Jones, Sr., 72, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, are incomplete at Curtis Funeral Home, Inc.

Funeral arrangements for Samuel "June" Jones Jr., 59, of Tchula formerly of Natchez, who died Monday, July 21, 2003, at his residence, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday, LA.

Allie Jenkins Buie

Jan. 11, 1937 - July 18, 2003

ROXIE - Services for Allie Jenkins Buie, 66, of Roxie, who died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Franklin County Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Williams Mortuary of Brookhaven.

Mrs. Buie was born icon Jan. 11, 1937, in Franklin County, the daughter of Frank Jenkins and Beatrice Jenkins.

She was a housewife and a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Buie was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Calvin Buie; brothers, Ornsby Jenkins, Frank Jenkins, Henry Jenkins, William Dunbar and Tom Owens.

Survivors include her husband, Perlie Buie of Roxie; sons, Rev. Danny L. Jenkins of Urbana, IL, Rev. Larry Jenkins of Columbia, Perlie Wayne Buie of Roxie, William Carl Buie of Pascagoula, Cleo Buie and Orran Levon Buie of Roxie; daughters, Brenda Buie of Pascagoula, Elaine Hunt of Kirby and Shelia Seeden of Liberty; brothers, Marshall Jenkins of Fayette and Johnny Jenkins of Roxie; sisters, Carrie Jenkins of Roxie, Lizzie Nelson of Amite, LA and Lela Mae Cameron of Roxie; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ruby Gudgell

May 7, 1918 - July 20, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Ruby Gudgell, 85, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with The Very Rev. Zabron A. Davis, III and the Rev. Paul Stephens officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Gudgell was born icon may 7, 1918, in Conway, AR, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Ruby Savannah Munn Graham.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Gudgell was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles Gudgell, Sr.

Survivors include sons, Charles Gudgell, Jr. of Destrehan, LA and John Gudgell of Natchez; sister, Ruth Wright of Jasper, AL; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Shields, III, Howard Turpin, Randy Calvert, Marion Stewart, James Nutter and Rev. Sam Tomlinson.

Ruby Gudgell

Funeral arrangements for Ruby Gudgell, 85, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson, are incomplete at Laird Funeral Home.

W. Harlan Evans

NATCHEZ - Services for W. Harlan Evans, 82, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.

Burial and graveside servcies will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hollywood cemetery in McComb under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Evans was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where he was a member of The Heaven Bound Class. Mr. Evans was a veteran of World War II and Korea serving in the United States Army. He retired from International Paper after 30 years of service. In his later years he was an active volunteer with the MS Council of the Blind.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Erwin Evans of Natchez; daughter, Cyndi Mendelson and her husband, Robert, of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Tyler Victoria Mendelson and Alexander "Alex" Mendelson; brother, Carroll Evans of McComb; nieces, Lenoir Smith of McComb and Carol Ann Klotz of Dallas, TX.

Members of The Heaven Bound Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Eugene Harried Sr.

March 29, 1945 - July 16, 2003

FAYETTE - Services for Eugene Harried Sr., 58, of Fayette, who died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home of Fayette. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Harried was born icon March 29, 1945, in Jefferson County, the son of Gus and Rosie Harried.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Josephine Harried, and 13 siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Lee Harried; one daughter, Erica Nicole Harried; two sons, Eugene Harried Jr. and his wife, Tina, both of Vicksburg, and Leo Harried Sr. and his wife, Geraldine, both of Fayette; two sisters, Josephine Harried and Helen Baker, both of Fayette; one uncle, Elder John Beverly, and his wife, Josephine, both of Detroit; one aunt-in-law, Susie Beverly of St. Louis; four sisters-in-law, Gracy, Theresa, Katina and Bessie; six brothers-in-law, Nolan, David, Mose, Larry, Willie and George; and a number of nieces, nephews and others relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Harried Jr., Leo Harried Sr., Larry Selmon, Will T. Thomas Jr., David Selmon, Mose Selmon and Nolan Selmon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Isaac Culbert Sr., Willie Earl Culbert, Joe Harried Jr., Herman Hamberlin, Kenneth Rosana and Willie Washington.

Bernita Beard Sanders

Nov. 14, 1914 - July 19, 2003

FAYETTE - Services for Bernita Beard Sanders, 88, of Fayette, who died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Adams County Nursing Home, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Spencer Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Britt officiating.

Burial will follow in Ephesus cemetery in Jefferson County under the direction of the funeral home. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sanders was born icon Nov. 14, 1914, in Jefferson County, the daughter of W.J. and Emma Phillips Beard.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hugh Pearl Sanders Sr.

Survivors include one son, Hugh P. Sanders Jr., and his wife, Eugenia, both of the Union Church community; three grandchildren, Jo Ann Fleming of Tyler, Texas, Debbie Fleming of Natchez and Hugh P. Sanders III of Hattiesburg; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Fleming, Kenneth Beard, Johnny H. Smith, Lorne Smith, Gerald Smith and Hugh P. Sanders III.

Marie Caston Montgomery Hopkins

March 18, 1932 - July 18, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Marie Caston Montgomery Hopkins, 71, of Natchez, who died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Reed officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hopkins was born icon March 18, 1932, the daughter of Barney William and Elna Curtis Caston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Hopkins; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include four daughters, Patsy Knotts and her husband, Bud, both of Panama City, Fla., Debbie Farmer and her husband, Bubba, both of Natchez, and Susan Wheeler and Linda Gayle Montgomery, both of Vidalia; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucullie Watson of Monroe, La., Shirley Wanda Lee Branch of Houston and Edna Lee Fitt of Vidalia; and two brothers, Ralph Vernon Caston of Farmerville, La., and J.B. Cupit of Pride, La.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Hein, Edward Gay, Joey Johansson, Jeremiah Wheeler, Edward Montgomery and William Montgomery.

Evelyn W. Scott

Jan. 18, 1921 - July 18, 2003

MEADVILLE - Services for Evelyn W. Scott, 82, of Meadville, who died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Scott was born icon Jan. 18, 1921 in Amite County, the daughter of Henry Waller and Sheddie Lenoir Waller.

She was a homemaker and a member of Eddiceton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Scott, her parents, two sisters, two brothers and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Scott and his wife, Joan, both of Meadville, and Ernest Ray Scott and his wife, Beverly, both of McComb; four grandchildren, Tyler Scott and his wife, Darby, and Jessica Curtis, all of Meadville, Tara Scott Price of Summit and Melanie Scott of LaPlace, La; and seven great-grandchildren.

Malcolm Lee Carter

Sept. 17, 1934 - July 17, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Malcolm Lee Carter, 68, of Natchez, who died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Herrin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Carter Family cemetery in Wilkinson County under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Carter was born icon Sept. 17, 1934, in Wilkinson County, the son of Edward Lee and Earline Flowers Carter.

He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson. He was retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Stampley Carter; his mother, Earline Flowers Carter of Natchez; two sons, Michael L. Carter and his wife, Patti, both of Sebastian, Fla., and Mark E. Carter and his wife, Mary Ann, both of Vidalia, La.; four grandchildren, Meghan L. Carter and Nicholas G. Carter, both of Sebastian, and Mark E. Carter Jr. and William C. Carter, both of Vidalia; three stepsons, George Peacock and his wife, Joyce, and Edward Hudson and his wife, Brenda, all of Monroe, La., and Tim Hudson and his wife, Sharlott, both of Pattison; and one sister, Jessie M. Carlisle, and her husband, Shelby, both of Natchez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 517, Port Gibson, MS 39150, or Immanuel Baptist Church, 684 U.S. 61 N., Natchez, MS 39120.
