Joe Lewis Brown, 64, of Etta, died March 16, 2005 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of Flint Hill Church. He was employed with the Fayette Co. Solid Waste where he was supervisor.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 23 at T.O.M.B. Association Building in Oxford. Burial was in Flint Hill cemetery in Etta. Rev. Hickinbottom officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Eloise Brown; eight children, Irish Brown, L.G. Brown, Eddie Brown, all of New Albany, Anthony Brown of Oxford, Judy Driver of Oxford, Jennifer Coleman, Tiffany Adams of Etta, Missy Foster of Myrtle; two brothers, C.D. Brown of Louisville, Ky., Willie D. Brown of Oxford; a sister, Mattie Mae Brown Smith of Kankekee, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael McClain, Keith Holland, Paul Williams, Lonzo Dennis, James McIntosh, Charles Cook, Brian Crockett, Jeffrey McIntosh.

Mason R. Seale

March 31, 1916 -- July 28, 2002

NATCHEZ -- Services for Mason R. Seale, 86, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Revs. Julius Roberts and Lou Knighton officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Seale was born icon March 31, 1916, in Gloster, the son of Mack Taylor and Dorothea Temple Seale.

He was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 1, Wahabi Shrine Temple and Knights Templar. He retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 1976 after 26 years of service. He served in the 141st Armored Signal Company during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mathis Seale of Natchez; one daughter, Roberta Fairchild and her husband, Charles, both of Madison; three grandchildren, Rachel Fairchild, Conner Fairchild and Clayton Fairchild, all of Madison; one brother, Mack Seale of Natchez; and two sisters Estelle Boutwell of Sontag and Elizabeth Brown of Monticello.

Pallbearers will be Clell King, Ivo Lea, Richard Olier, Theodore McCarstle, Walton Hootsell and Ernest Barlow.

Honorary pallbearers will be Julian Wedgeworth, Grady Boykin, Claude Harrigill and Wade Martin.

The family requests memorials be made to Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Natchez or Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Centre Boulevard in Ridgeland.

Lester Layne Browning Jr.

March 28, 1930 -- July 30, 2002

NATCHEZ -- Services for Lester Layne Browning Jr., 72, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Magnolia House, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Tomlinson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Browning was born icon March 28, 1930, in Natchez, the son of Lester Layne and Effie Elmira Lees Browning Sr.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, was retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a retired employee of U.S. Postal Service and was a founding member of the Men's Camellia Club.

Mr. Browning was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Clara Holland Browning.

Survivors include two sons, Lester Layne Browning III and his wife, Sharon, and David Lees Browning, all of Natchez; one daughter, Elizabeth Swalm and her husband, John, both of Natchez; five grandchildren, Lester Layne Browning IV, Andrea Hart Browning, Alison Swalm, Jessica Swalm and Stephanie Swalm; two brothers, William Browning and Jim Browning, both of Natchez; and one sister, Carol Browning Preisman of Boyton Beach, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Randy Brumfield, Carrol Tumey, David Gardner, Cliff Brumfield, Vincent Mullins, Allen Burchfield and Jamie Lees Browning.

Rena B. Stietenroth

Sept. 15, 1910 -- July 28, 2002

NATCHEZ -- Services for Rena B. Stietenroth, 91, of Ocean Springs formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Samuel Tomlinson officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Stietenroth was born icon Sept. 15, 1910, in Amite County, the daughter of Willie and Laura Wells Barron.

She lived in Natchez from 1947 to 1997 when she moved to Ocean Spring to be with her son and family. She is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez and a communicant of St. John Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs.

Mrs. Stietenroth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William E. Stietenroth; and a sister, Jesse Dykes.

Survivors include one son, William E. Stietenroth Jr. and his wife, Anne, both of Ocean Springs; one granddaughter, Davona Mitchell and her husband, Ron, both of Biloxi; and two great-granddaughters, Caroline Mitchell and Ashley Mitchell, both of Biloxi.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Bobby Chatman
Bobby (Bob) Chatman, 54, of Oxford, died March 18, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was a retired mechanic and a native of Lafayette County.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 22 at Tallahatchie Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building. Burial was in Cypress Grove cemetery in Oxford. Hodges Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Gloria Jean (Barksdale) Chatman, formerly of Holly Springs; two daughters, Barbara Chatman of Oxford, Jacqueline Chatman of Oxford; four sisters, Bessie Flemons of Thaxton, Mary Alice Pegues, Mary Jane Pegues, both of Oxford, Robessie Cornner of Lewisville, Tx.; six brothers, Robert Chatman, Willie Chatman, both of Oxford, Johnnie Price, Louis Chatman, Johnnie Ivy, all of Indianapolis, Ind., Lee Russell Price of Memphis, Tenn.

Thelma Nelson Childers
Thelma Nelson Childers, 86, of Hickory Flat, died March 19, 2005 at Baptist Hospital Union County in New Albany. She was the widow of Earl Childers and a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Flat Rock cemetery. Bro. William Phillips officiated.

She leaves three sons, Don Childers of Hickory Flat, Tommy Childers of Potts Camp, Jerry Childers of Hickory Flat; eight daughters, Earlene Reed of Hickory Flat, Molly Cranston of Marne, Iowa, Martha Vanzant of Memphis, Tenn., Jane Goode of New Albany, Jo Simpson of New Albany, Sandy Brown of Germantown, Tenn., Neva Sing of Hickory Flat, Debbie Crist of Mandeville, La.; two brothers, Lynn Nelson of Olive Branch, John Nelson of Byhalia; four sisters, Mary Lois Gurley of Potts Camp, Hazel Ferrell of Memphis, Tenn., Sue Seitz of Osceola, Ark., Laverne Provost of Apopka, Fla.; 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Childers; a brother, James Nelson, and a sister, Juanita Naquin; two sons-in-law, Bobby Reed, Harold Sing.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Maggie Cooke
Maggie Cooke, 86, of Macedonia, died March 11, 2005 at East Jefferson Hospital in Louisiana. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and former owner of Pop’s Hardware in Metairie, La.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on March 16 at Hill Crest cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Chester G. Cooke III of Metairie, La., Barney Lee Cook of Pearl; a daughter, Patricia Bond of Metairie, La.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Doris Perrine Edwards
Doris Perrine Edwards, 61, of Holly Springs, died March 20, 2005 at Oxford. She was the widow of Cecil Edwards and a Baptist. She worked at Wurlitzer and Maury Manufacturing.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ashland cemetery.

She leaves two sons, Keith Kimery of Falkner, Timothy Edwards of Holly Springs; a daughter, Carla Edwards Davis of Holly Springs; two sisters, Mary Childers, Josephine Gibson, both of Ashland; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenny Smith, Terry Childers, David Gibson, Jimmy Kimerly, Roy Davis, Clay Skelton, Burt Bradford.

Fannie Lee Johnson Beard

Fannie Lee Johnson Beard, 95, of Holly Springs, died July 30, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Johnnie Beard. She was a member of the church choir; a piano player for more than 70 years at several churches in Marshall County, including Mt. Newell MB Church, Jones Grove MB Church, Reid’s Gift MB Church, Antioch MB Church and McIntyre MB Church.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 5 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S. A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Jessie Ann Austin of Detroit, Mich., Mary Moore of Chicago, Ill., Mattie Balfour of Texarkana, Ark., Dorothy Porter of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sons, Johnnie Beard Jr., Willie Beard, both of Memphis, Tenn., Wilbert Beard, Albert Beard, both of Holly Springs; 32 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Clara Oliver.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Belfoure, Jerris Beard, Patrick Porter, Willis Beard, Keith Moore and Steven Beard. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Beard, Albert Beard, Zadie Moore, Willie Beard, Wilbert Beard and Johnny Austin.

Rodney Allen Leopard

Rodney Allen Leopard, 30, of Myrtle, Tenn., died Aug. 1, 2006 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and he was disabled.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery in Ripley. Bro. Jerry Garrison officiated.

He leaves his father, Billy Wayne Leopard of Hickory Flat; his mother, Beatrice Murry of Myrtle; and three brothers, Bobby Wayne Leopard of Myrtle, Billy Allen Leopard of Ripley, Steven Dewayne Leopard of Hickory Flat.

Eva R. Rhoades

Feb. 20, 1909 - Dec. 10, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Eva R. Rhoades, 93, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rhoades was born icon Feb. 20, 1909, in Franklin County, the daughter of William Francisco and Cornelia Linder Rodriquez.

She worked at South Central Bell until 1974, when she retired with 40 years of service. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church in Franklin County and First Baptist Church and Parkway Baptist Church in Natchez.

Mrs. Rhoades was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie W. Rhoades; one daughter-in-law, Donnielee Rhoades; five brothers, Samuel Rodriquez, Francis Rodriguez, Landy Rodriguez, Winfield Rodriguez and Clyde Rodriguez; and seven sisters, Elenora Rodriguez, Cullee R. McCord, Willie Mae R. Priest, Pernice R. Delaney, Mavis R. Knight, Mable R. Hayles and Eula R. Stephens.

Survivors include one son, Charles W. "Billy" Rhoades of Natchez; two grandsons, Bill Rhoades of Natchez and Vance Rhoades and his wife, Paula, both of Vidalia, Ga.; one granddaughter, Marsha R. Overton and her husband, Donnie, both of Waxahachie, Texas; one great-grandson, William P. Rhoades of Vidalia; and one great-granddaughter, Holly Rhoades of Vidalia.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Townsend, Homer Rodriguez, Jerry Rodriguez, Wallace Rodriguez, Milton McCord, Clint Rhoades and Ray Bryant.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Rodriguez, Tommy Knight, Willard Stephens and Steve Stevens.

Sept. 7, 1926 - Dec. 10, 2002

MEADVILLE - Services for Gloria J. Wallace, 76, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Midway cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wallace was born icon Sept. 7, 1926, in Franklin County, the daughter of Forrest Jones and Vallie Higgingbotham.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe A. Wallace; her parents; and one brother.

Survivors include one son, Monroe A. Wallace Jr. of Phoenix; two daughters, Dara W. Walker of New Hebron and Kathy R. Wallace of Natchez; one brother, Charles A. Jones of Natchez; and four grandchildren.

Robert Glenn Nettles

April 23, 1958 - Dec. 10, 2002

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Robert Glenn "Redd" Nettles, 44, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Natchez City cemetery with the Rev. Steve Purvis officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Nettles was born icon April 23, 1958, in Natchez, the son of Verlis Dave and Iva Nell Glover Nettles.

Mr. Nettles was preceded in death by his parents; one cousin, Billy Shows; and one nephew, Henry Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Millie Nettles of Natchez; two daughters, Sgt. Christina Nettles of South Korea and Jennifer Nettles of Natchez; one sister-in-law, Ann Williams of Baton Rouge; one sister, Melba Nations of Natchez; his mother-in-law, Ruby Lindsey of Natchez; and his father-in-law, William Lindsey of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Gene Williams, Steven Van Winkle, James Van Winkle, Danny Williams, David Southern, James Lavon Nations, Rick Nations and Butch Lonidier.

James C. (Foots) Griffin, 88, died July 21, 2006.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on July 24 at Golden Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Bastrop, La. Rev. John Peters officiated.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Joyce Lee Hodge Griffin; three sons, James Newton Griffin, Robert Drewland Griffin, Raymie Benton Griffin; a daughter, Dorothy Marie Vinson; two brothers; three sisters; six grandchildren; a stepgrandchild and 15 great-grandchildren.

Fannie Lee Oliver Zinn

Fannie Lee Oliver Zinn, 88, of Holly Springs, died July 27, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of George Zinn II. She was a member of the Mother Board and served on several committees. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Zeta Phi Beta Amicae organization. She was a member of Hebron Homemakers Club, a former member of the church usher board, a member of the church building fund committee. She was the founder of Willing Workers Club at Strawberry MB Church. She was a retired food nutritionist with Marshall County Extension Services.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 1 at Strawberry Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie F. Jeffries Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Myrtle Zinn Robinson of Memphis, Tenn., Willette Zinn Jeffries of Holly Springs; two sons, Johnny Zinn, George Zinn III, both of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joel Zinn.

Edward Fant, 55, of Holly Springs, died March, 4, 2005 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a member of World Overcomers Outreach Ministry Church in Memphis, Tenn., an usher, perfecting school, Apostolic Leadership, equipping training and ministerial. He was also a self-employed building contractor.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 11 at World Overcomers Outreach Ministry Church in Memphis, Tenn. Burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Apostle A.R. Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home in Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Evelyn M. Jones-Fant of Holly Springs; a daughter, Natalie Nicole Fant of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, Prynceston Fant Sr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Edward Fant Jr. of Horn Lake, Tony Fant of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepson, Bobby Wilson Fant of Horn Lake; four sisters, Mamie Ruth Nunally of Holly Springs, Johnnie M. Cochran of Huntsville, Ala., Cora Nash of Cleveland, Miss., Reola Burke of Cleveland, Miss.; three brothers, Oscar Lee Fant of Holly Springs, David Fant of Dallas, Tx., Arthur Fant of Memphis, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Ameera Mai Pierini Gaia
Ameera Mai Pierini Gaia, 73, of Olive Branch, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died March 15, 2005 at her home. She was retired from the IRS after 18 years. She also worked for Memphis Transit Company for 14 years; a communicant of Queen of Peace Catholic, Olive Branch; active in Girl Scouts; coached basketball, softball and soccer. She was a member of St. John Alter Society, active in the community and church volunteer.

Mass services were held at 9 a.m. on March 19 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Regina Gail Gaia Hoyt of Holly Springs, Patti Gaia Marshall of Holly Springs, Ameera Celeste Gaia Smith of Emory, Va.; four sisters, Susie Pierini-Hagey of Fla., Dorothy Pierini Moore of Memphis, Patsy Pierini Stanfill of Memphis, Tenn., Camille Pierini Moretta of Memphis; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Alliance Hospice and Martha’s Manor and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Parthina Phillips Hopkins
Parthina (Tick) Phillips Hopkins, 76, of Holly Springs, died March 3, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Rockford, Ill.; She was a retired cook.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 12 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home in Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Hezekaiha Hopkins of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Martha Hopkins of Rockford, Ill., Shirley (Tean) Sims Peyton of Holly Springs; two sisters, Iola Rayford, Kattie Phillips, both of Byhalia; a brother, Freeman Phillips of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Hopkins.

Frances R. Johnston, 84, of Barton, died March 14, 2005 at Collierville Health and Rehab. She was the widow of R. Harrison Johnston and a retired factory worker from Gem, Inc.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 16 at Barton First Baptist Church. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Collierville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Sarah Farley of Barton, a son, Jimmy Johnston of Cayce; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Johnston.
