Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 6 at Greater Open Door MB Church in Memphis. Rev. Y.C. Cox officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Shirley Cox, Susie Williams, Florrine Hampton, Dorothy Montgomery, Chantay Nelms, all of Memphis; three sons, James Lee Hampton Jr., Gregory Lee Hampton, Elijah Martel Hampton, all of Byhalia; four sisters, Lula Mae McKinney, Vorice McKinney, Arlean Norton, all of Slayden, Rosemary Rhine of Byhalia; six brothers, Bobby Snow, Q.C. Snow, both of Memphis, Larry Snow of Byhalia, Willie Snow of Holly Springs, Henry McKinney of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandsons, 12 granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

Miguel Hernandez
Miguel Hernandez, 20, of Byhalia, died Aug. 1, 2005 in Arkansas. He was Catholic and a construction worker.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Dolores Hidalgo GTO, Mexico.

He leaves his father, Victor Hernandez of Byhalia; his mother, Curz Velagues of Soledad Nueva, Mexico; grandparents, Rafaela Juan Hernandez, Fransisca Monjalar, both of Mexico; two brothers, Victor Velagues Hernandez of Nashville, Tenn., Benjamin Hernandez of Byhalia; two sisters, Anna E. Isavell Hernandez of Soledad Nueva, Mexico, Raphela Hernandez of Mexico.

Dorothy Leak
Dorothy Leak, 66, of Lamar, died August 8, 2005 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of Lamar Presbyterian Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on August 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Don Wilson officiated. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

She leaves her husband, Bobby Leak; three daughters, Melanie Hurdle, Teresa Carpenter, both of West Point, Cindy Shaw of Holly Springs; a brother, Charlie Cole of Boise, Id.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Cary Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, Casey McCullar, Lucas Carpenter, Chad Fitch, and Tripp McCullar.

Dedrick Lesure
Dedrick (Lil’ Man) Lesure, 33, of Holly Springs, died July 31, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center.

Services were held at on Aug. 6 at Providence MB CHurch in Holly Springs. Burial was in the Cottrell Memorial Gardens in Holly Springs. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four daughters, Bianca Reaves, Talleah Anthony, both of Ashland, Shemice Milan of Chulahoma, Dariah Lesure of Lamar; two sons, LaKendrick Wilson of Byhalia, Cameron Isom of Holly Springs; his mother, Mildred Lesure; three sisters, Sherry Lesure, Ketoya Lesure, Sandra Jones, all of Holly Springs; seven brothers, Antonio Lesure, Marco Lesure, Randy Hicks, Jarvae Hunt, Jeffery Walton, Douglas Jones, Bryant Faulkner, all of Holly Springs; his grandmother, Nancy Lawson of Aurora, Ill.; special friends, Carmonica Isom and Robert Shipp.

Jayden Allen Lewis
Jayden Allen Lewis, 1 year, of Potts Camp, died Aug. 6, 2005 at his home.

Services were held on Aug. 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Worsham officiated.

He leaves his mother and father, Tabitha Lewis and Joe Lewis of Potts Camp; his brother, Hunter Brown of Potts Camp; his sister, Hailey Brown of Potts Camp; grandparents, Wayne and Debbie Howard of Potts Camp, Vivian Lewis of Muskogee, Okla., William Lewis of Utah; great-grandparents, Ed Jones of Muskogee, Okla., Jo Anne Jones of Muskogee, Okla., Eugenee and Edna Lewis of Hickory Flat.

Clara Lee Stephenson Davis Nelson
Clara Lee Stephenson Davis Nelson, 44, of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 2, 2005 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of the usher board and a member of the Rust College ROTC drill team. She was a salesperson with Burlington Coat Factory in Memphis.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 7 at St. Paul MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in Saulsberry Family cemetery in Byhalia. Rev. Andrew Cheairs officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Clyde Earl Nelson; a daughter, Ciara L. Nelson of Memphis; three sons, Chavez E. Nelson, Cameron C. Nelson, Colby E. Nelson, all of Memphis; three sisters, Landa Martin of Chulahoma, Dollie Martin of Chicago, Ill., Parthenia Mays of Coldwater; four brothers, Willie Jeffries of Lamar, Willie Stephenson of Chulahoma, James Jeffries of Senatobia, Rudolph Stephenson of Byhalia; an adopted sister, Mattie Taylor of Memphis; and an adopted brother, Nathaniel Davis of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Stephenson, Pearl Harbor Stephenson, Joe Nathan Stephenson.

Pallbearers were Charles Nelson, Michael Nelson, Carey Nelson, Willie Jeffries, James Jeffries, Conrad Nelson, Willie Stephenson, Rudolph Stephenson and Larry Newsom.

John L. Scruggs
John L. Scruggs, 50, of Byhalia, died July 30, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Mt. Zion CME Church in Ashland. He was disabled.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 4 at Royston Chapel CME Church in Benton County. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Oliver Anthony officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Jennifer Judge of Ashland, Tamikea Chew of Memphis; a son, Carl Judge of Ashland; his mother, Lucy Scruggs of Byhalia; two sisters, Everlina Holts of Byhalia, Bessie Mae Scruggs of Madison, Ill.; five brothers, Tracy Scruggs, Willie Scruggs Jr. both of Memphis, Tenn., Odell Scruggs, Leopold Scales of Olive Branch, Rickey Scruggs Jr. of Byhalia; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Stacy Martin, James Wooten, Randy Rayford, Grant Ellis, Randy Crawford, Tyrone Robinson. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Scruggs, Odell Scruggs, and Leopold Scales.

Charlotte Stanback
Charlotte Stanback, 77, of Byhalia, died Aug. 3, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a sales person with Jordan Sales.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Isaac Chapel CME Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in Stanback Family cemetery in Byhalia. Rev. Willie Ward officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Charleen Stanback of Chicago, Ill., Yvonne Stanback of Memphis; a son, Gregory Stanback of Byhalia; a sister, Massareno Richmond of Byhalia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Stanback and Willie Stanback.

Pallbearers were Orlando Stanback, Willie Stanback, Christopher Stanback, Anthony Richmond, Mario Miller, and Alva Townsend.

Lee Marcus Wilkins
Lee Marcus (Lil Brother) Wilkins, 51, of Holly Springs, died July 30, 2005 at his home. He was a factory worker with Guardian Fiber Glass in Olive Branch.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 3 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his sister, Gloria Wilkins of Holly Springs; four brothers, Earl Wilkins, Artha Wilkins, Rev. Tony Wilkins, all of Holly Springs, Billy Wilkins of Memphis, Tenn.

Pallbearers were Robert L. Batts, Sylvester Dean, Willie Isom, Patrick Campbell, Robert Holloway, Terry Glover. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Wilkins, Artha Wilkins, Rev. Tony Wilkins and Billy Wilkins.

Glen Williams
Glen Williams, 83, of Potts Camp, died Aug. 4, 2005 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist in Holly Springs and a retired road builder. A former road building consultant supervisor, he helped construct many of the roads throughout north Mississippi, southeastern Arkansas and west Tennessee, and also the Marshall County Airport. He was a veteran of World War II. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees, building airfields in the South Pacific.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

He leaves his wife, Sara Moore Williams; three sons, Edward (Ed) Williams of Starkville, Dr. David Williams of Oxford, Mark Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Ann W. Young of Eupora; a brother, James Williams of Southaven; four sisters, Ruth Shipp, Dorothy Russell, both of Memphis, Jewel Swarner of Greenville, Betty Jean Feorene of Niles, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Williams of Laws Hill, Charlie Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Nettie Mayer of Potts Camp; and a grandson, Austin Williams of Starkville.

Mosegi Kenta Wheeler
Mosegi Kenta (Mo) Wheeler, 26, of Byhalia, died August 4, 2005 at his home. He attended Byhalia High and Henry Jr. High Schools.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Isaac Chapel CME Church in Byhalia. Burial will be in Clayton cemetery in Byhalia. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Avan and Jimmie Wheeler, two children, Xavier Wheeler, Joslyn Benson, three brothers, Joe Brunson, Brian Wheeler, Nico Wheeler; two sisters, Vickie Clark, Jetonne Wheeler, his grandfather, Crell Wheller and a special friend, Quatzetta Echols, all of Byhalia.

Pallbearers will be Joe Brunson, Brian Wheeler, Nico Wheeler, Cleven Clark, Cedric Richmond, Michael Todd, Henry Louis Saulsberry and Dwight Wheeler.

Russell Austin
Russell Austin, 52, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 10, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a diesel mechanic with Malone International Tractors & Equipment in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 15 at Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Russell Johnson, LaShaun Johnson, both of Holly Springs; his father, John Austin of Holly Springs; and two sisters, Catherine Austin of Holly Springs, Thelma Malone of Aurora, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Hardin Austin; and a sister, Maxine McNeil.

Pallbearers were Walter Martin Jr., Rodney Miller, Bernard Mitchell, Nelson Liggins, Tony Liggins, Robert Reynolds Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Jones, Isaac Jones Jr., Lonnie Jones, James Malone, Eric McNeil, Michael Mitchell and A.C. Wilson.

Georgia Lillian Powers Cox
Georgia Lillian Powers Cox, 78, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 11, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Lester Cox.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Chulahoma MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. J.R. Futrell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Lester Jean Martin of Laws Hill, Bertha Alexander of Chulahoma; five sons, Lawrence Cox of Peoria, Ill., Wilkie Cox of Petersburg, Va., Robert Cox, Grayland Cox, Levi Cox, all of Chulahoma; 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth Wayne Cox, David Earl Cox, Ira Seal Cox.

Pallbearers were Calvin Powers, Marvin Powers, Roy Powers, Alvin Taylor, Charlie Taylor Jr. and John Taylor.

Adolphus Davis
Adolphus (Blue) Davis, 53, of Byhalia, died Aug. 9, 2005 in Greenville. He was a member of Chulahoma MB Church in Holly Springs and a truck driver with Central Woodwork in Collierville, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Street Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joseph Porter officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Louise Echols Davis of Byhalia; five sisters, Mae Davis, Erma Rayford, both of Chicago, Ill., Burma Tuggles, Gladys Hardin, both of Holly Springs, Martinia Jones of Indianapolis, Ind.; four brothers, Ozell Rayford, Jimmie Rayford, both of Chicago, Ill., Leon Davis, Cully Davis, both of Byhalia.

Pallbearers were Anthony Tuggles, I.B. Smith, Sonny Davis, Danton Taylor, Robert Fant and Orenzy Echols.

Russell Marvin Hodges
Russell Marvin Hodges, 95, of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 11, 2005 at Senior Services in Memphis. He was the widower of Martha Perry Hodges and a member of Shiloh MB Church in Ashland.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Superintendent Bernell Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves five daughters, Maggie Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., Delois Brooks of Grand Junction, Tenn., Elease Hodges, Annie Hodges, Ida Mae Moore, all of Ashland; an adopted daughter, Martha Ann Hodges of Dallas, Tx.; an adopted son, George Hodges of Memphis; two sisters, Earline Reeves, Mary Ann Mason, both of Ashland; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kelvin Brooks, Michael Hodges, Umargo Hodges, Eric Hodges, Cedric Hodges and Danny Watkins.
