Curtis (Cake) Echols, 60, of Holly Springs, formerly of Aurora, Ill., died Oct. 5, 2005 at Briarcrest Care Home in Ashland. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and a machine operator with Caterpillar of Aurora.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Strickland United Methodist Church in Byhalia, where he was a former member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Stewart officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Catrina Echols of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, Dontae Jackson, Antwan Jackson, both of Aurora; his mother, Janie Stewart Echols of Holly Springs; five sisters, Mary Echols, Iolia Rayford, Dorothy Echols, all of Aurora, Thelma Martin, Annie Jones, both of Holly Springs; six brothers, R.J. Echols of Syracuse, N.Y., Bobby Echols of Memphis, Tenn., John Wesley Echols of Sacramento, Calif., Morris Echols, Herbert Echols, Roosevelt Echols, all of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Hubert Davis, Morgan Martin, William Martin, D’Anthony Jones, D’Andre’ Jones, Ben Mayfield Jr. Honorary pallbearers were R.J. Echols, Roosevelt Echols, Bobby Echols, Morris Echols, John W. Echols and Herbert Echols.
Mary Eleanor Malone Jeffries
Mary Eleanor Malone Jeffries, 51, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 1, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of Mt. Gilead CME Church and a retired housekeeper with Holiday Inn Express in Olive Branch.
Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 8 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium. Burial was in Mt. Gilead CME Church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Robert Jeffries; two daughters, Michelle M. Kinkle, Rolanda LaTasha Jeffries, both of Holly Springs; two sons, George Durrell Jeffries, Kenneth Natrete Jeffries, both of Holly Springs; her mother, Modena Elliott Malone of Holly Springs; three sisters, Segretta Elliott Sims of Holly Springs; Dorothy Elliott McKinney of Aurora, Ill., Christopher Elaine Malone of Holly Springs; two brothers, James Malone, William (Pete) Malone, both of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her nephews. Honorary pallbearers were the stewards of the church.
Jack D. Scott
Jack D. (Scotty) Scott, 76, of Slayden, died Oct. 5, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict era and a retired vice president for the Pickering Firm. He was a professional engineer whose projects included Memphis City Hall, the Memphis International Airport, the Mid-South Coliseum and Mud Island.
Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Memorial Park cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.
He leaves his wife, Dena Scott; his sons, Joseph Scott of Slayden, Jonathan Scott of Oxford, Dolph Moore of Hohenwald, Tenn., Terry Moore of Bartlett, Tenn., Rick Moore of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Lafayette County Humane Society in Oxford.
Lillie M. Stacks
Lillie M. Stacks, 87, of Byhalia, died Oct. 5, 2005 at Germantown Methodist Hospital. She was the widow of Claudie Stacks, a member of First Baptist Church in Byhalia and an assembler with Gem, Inc.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Byhalia cemetery. Bro. Leon Burton officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves three sons, Terry Thomas of Red Banks, Jerry Thomas, Major Stacks, both of Southaven; a daughter, Joyce Brady of Southaven; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Gordon Hardee Stone
Gordon Hardee Stone, 74, of Ashland, died Oct. 8, 2005. Retired from USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service after 42 years of service having served as county executive director in Benton County and later as district director. He was founder and principal broker of Gordon Stone Realty in Ashland. He was an active member of Ashland Baptist Church having served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school superintendent and teacher for a number of years. He was a leader in the Ashland Civic Club, serving as president several terms. He was active in Ashland’s first volunteer fire department and served one term on the Ashland Board of Aldermen. He represented Benton County on the CREATE Foundation’s Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi. He also served several years on the Board of Directors of Marshall Academy in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Ashland Baptist Church. Burial was in Ashland cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Hope Summerour Stone; two sons, mayor Bill Stone of Ashland, Kent Stone of Holly Springs; a daughter, Julie Robinson of Holly Springs; a sister, Ann McClatchy of Red Banks; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Harold L. Bell
Harold L. Bell, 71, of Red Banks, died Sept. 29, 2005 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. A Vietnam veteran, he served 21 years in the United States Air Force. He continued his career in law enforcement in Miami, Fla., for 21 years. He served as the Byhalia chief of police for two years before he retired to Red Banks.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 4 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery with full military honors.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Ellen J. Bell; two daughters, Terry Presley of Red Banks, Sharon Carpenter of Homestead, Fla.; two sons, Harold M. Bell, Lee T. Bell, both of Red Banks; a brother, Larry Bell; two sisters, Joanne Butts, Donna Calvin, all of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Christine Potts Brents, 73, of Byhalia, died Sept. 26, 2005 in Batesville. She was the widow of William (Bill) Brents and a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.
She leaves two daughters, Barbara Diane Snow of Waterford, Brenda Spivey of Sardis; five sons, Chester Dallas Brents of Potts Camp, James Lee Brents, Donald Joe Brents, Gary K. Brents, Barry K. Brents, all of Byhalia; a brother, Elmer Lee Potts of Memphis; four stepsons, William D. Hugh Boswell Garner, 65, of Etta, died Sept. 27, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Etta and a retired truck driver with Red Ball Freight.

Autry Hicks, 83, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 27, 2005 at his home. He was the widower of Christine P. Hicks.

Oplis (Bush) King, 78, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 26, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was the widower of Naomi Lester King. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #450, and a retired factory worker with Wurlitzer of Holly Springs.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie C. Conner officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home officiated.
He leaves five daughters, Emma Stephenson, Margie King Hughes, Hazel King, all of Holly Springs, Brenda King, Stacey Brimfield, both of Columbia, S.C.; six sons, Lee Mack King, Thesslonia King, Ivy Lee King, Melvin King, Conerly King, all of Holly Springs, Kelsey King of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Mahalia King of Coldwater, Connie Hopkins of East St. Louis, Ill.; a brother, Dennis King of Holly Springs; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Young.

Lue Bell Mayfield, 87, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 24, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was a member of the mother board.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Jones Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. John Powell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her son, Leroy Mayfield of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Ben Mayfield of Holly Springs; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Katina Larette Allen, 33, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Ashland, died April 2, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of Easthaven Church of Christ in Memphis and benefit administrator for Servicemaster Corporation in Memphis.
Services were held at 12 noon on April 8 at Foundation of Life Christian Center in Lamar. Burial was in South Ashland Church of Christ cemetery. Bro. William J. Colburn officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her mother, Dorothy Bryson Allen of Michigan City; her sister, Ronnetta Mason of Olive Branch; and her grandfather, Jessie Bryson Sr. of Michigan City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Levi Allen; and her grandmother, Tinnie Bryson;

Robert Garland Gilstrap
Robert Garland Gilstrap, 74, of Holly Springs, died April 4, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. The widower of Helen Gilstrap, he was an executive with Southwestern Telephone AT&T. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was an Army veteran of Korea.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 8 at First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. A private burial was held later. Rev. Milton Boyd officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Nita S. Gilstrap of Holly Springs; two sons, Robert H. Gilstrap of Hannibal, Mo., Brian R. Gilstrap of Webster Grove, Mo.; a stepson, Rick DeBardeleben of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Veronica Cook, Peggy Brown, both of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Dunlap of Holly Springs, Julie DeBardeleben Cohen of Newburyport, Ma.; a brother, Bill Gilstrap of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Mary Morrison of Onsted, Mich.; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Gilstrap.

Boyce Blondale Graham, 68, of Harmontown, died April 2, 2006 at Tri Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Estelle Horner Hickman
Estelle Horner Hickman, 87, of Dyersburg, Tenn., died April 2, 2006. She was the widow of Howard Hickman. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Sylvania.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fairvew cemetery in Dyersburg. Rev. Walt Asher officiated.
She leaves three daughters, Linda Gail Betts of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Pat Mancell, Nadine Thedford, both of Dyersburg, Tenn.; a son, Leon Hickman of Haleyville, Ala.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Travis Hickman; and a brother, J.M. Horner.
