Dortha Jeanes Hughey, 78, of Ashland, died April 27, 2006 at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was a member of Friendship Methodist Church and factory worker and cashier at B&B Grocery in Ashland.

Services were held at 4 p.m. on April 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Friendship cemetery.

She leaves a son, Pete Hughey of Ashland; two daughters, Rita Jordan of DeQueen, Ark., Sandra Boler of Falkner; a sister, Johnnie Childers of Ashland; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Grady Jeanes, Bill Jeanes, Jackie Jeanes, Vodie Jeanes; and by the father of her children, Buddy Hughey.

Lillie Scruggs Lesure

Lillie Scruggs Lesure, 66, of Tupelo, died April 22, 2006 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 29 at Free Branch MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Nehemiah Lesure; seven children, Minnie Lesure of Lamar, Nehemiah Lesure Jr. of Tupelo, Wendell Lesure of Pontotoc, David Lesure of Ashland, Camella Lesure of Byhalia, Johnson Lesure of Louisville, Rowland Lesure of Fort Polk, La.; seven brothers, Jack Scruggs of Byhalia, Clarence Scruggs, Lester Scruggs, Billy Scruggs, all of Memphis, Tenn., William Henry Scruggs, Andrew Scruggs, both of Ashland, Charlie Scruggs of Red Banks; two sisters, Delois Taylor, Barbara Evans, both of Lamar; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Scruggs; and two sisters, Wilma Evans and Willie Mae Williams.

John Trussie Perkins

John Trussie Perkins, 85, of Hickory Flat, died April 27, 2006 at MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of Hickory Flat Church of Christ, a factory worker and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 29 at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Ron Tega officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Reva Louise Perkins; a brother, William W. Perkins of Hickory Flat; and a sister, Mary Joyce Nance of Ashland.

Pallbearers were Shane Nance, Brent Nance, George Wicker, Dana Harrington, Ronnie Harrington, Glenn Cossitt and Matt Thompson.

Fred Privett III

Fred Privett III, 48, of Myrtle, died April 27, 2006 at his home. He was employed at Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 29 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Macedonia cemetery in Myrtle.

He leaves his wife, Donna Privett; seven children, Shannon Privett, Vanessa McCord, Fred Privett IV, all of Memphis, Tenn., James Privett, Wilburn Joseph Privett, Faith Privett, Adam Privett, all of Myrtle; his mother, Claudine Privett of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Eddie Privett of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Bettie Taylor of Hernando; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher James Privett and a sister, Sherry Bell Smith.

Annie Estelle Skelton

Annie Estelle Skelton, 88, of Slayden, died May 1, 2006 at Tippah County Hospital. She was the widow of Samuel E. Skelton. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Slayden.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in John K. Skelton cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Billy Adair officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Randale Skelton of Hickory Flat, Spanky Skelton of Lamar; six daughters, Connie Taylor, Wanda Carpenter, Dorothy Skelton, all of Lamar; Janet Duke of Mantachie, Carolyn Hale of Potts Camp, Lucy Sanders of Olive Branch; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lee Anna Sledge

Lee Anna Sledge, 90, of Holly Springs, died April 19, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a nurse assistant at Lakeshore Nursing Facility in Chicago, Ill. and a member of the church stewardess board.

Services were held at 12 noon on April 26 at Gray’s Chapel CME Church in Hudsonville, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Rod Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Mildred Adams of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Barbara Merritt of Holly Springs; two sons, John Sledge of Holly Springs, Samuel Sledge of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Martha Tucker of Chicago, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jon Sledge, Ronald Sledge, John Sledge II, Claude A. Sledge, Lamonte Sledge and Sabrian Sledge.

Cornell Waller

Cornell Waller, 49, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 13, 2006. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He attended Sims and Holly Springs High School, graduating in 1975.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 21 at Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit, Mich. Burial was in Gethsemane cemetery in Detroit.

He leaves two sons, Boo and Ricardo both of Detroit; a daughter, Tanya of Detroit; his mother, Girlean Waller of Holly Springs; six brothers, James Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Sidney of Hickory Flat, Jerry of Detroit, Calvin of Detroit, Perry of Holly Springs and Ricky of Detroit; three sisters, Juanita of Potts Camp, Betty of Memphis and Evon of Holly Springs; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Waller; two brothers, Robert and Leon; and his fiancee, Mozetta Sims.

Robert Thomas (Rob) Warren

Robert Thomas (Rob) Warren, 24, of Holly Springs, died April 28, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rob served as a deputy sheriff with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and was named 2005 Officer of the Year. He was a 1999 graduate of Marshall Academy and a 2003 graduate of Class B-32 at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center. He attended Mississippi State University and later the University of Mississippi majoring in criminal justice. He was honored at Ole Miss to receive the first C.B. Hopper Award for Outstanding Legal Studies Student of the Year in 2005. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He also was the owner of Warren’s Lawn Service and served as a guard for the United States Marshals Service assisting with prisoner transportation and courtroom security.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 1 at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Susan and Jimmy Warren Jr. of Holly Springs; a sister, Alexis Warren Williams and her husband, Clay Williams, of Ocean Springs; his grandmother, Dorothy Warren of Holly Springs; grandparents Roby and Ellen Stegall of Carlsbad, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Warren; great-aunt, Mary F. Warren; and great-uncle, Charles F. Warren.

Pallbearers were Sheriff Kenny Dickerson, Rick Preciado, Bobby Harris, David Cook, James Wright, Eddie Thompson, Jerry Rogers, Kelly McMillen, Ellis Stubbs, Danny Hurdle, Jason Burch, David Johnson, Tripp Taylor, Jonathan Burch, Walter Bain, Gary Allen, James McAlexander and James Campbell.

Ellar Mae Rankin Westbrook

Ellar Mae Rankin Westbrook, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., died April 20, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was the widow of Perry Westbrook. She was a member of the church choir.

Services were held at 12 noon on April 29 at New Shelby MB Church in Collierville, Tenn., where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Wiley officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Mary Westbrook of Collierville, Tenn., Robin Westbrook, Gail Westbrook, Bernice Smith, Theresa Westbrook, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Cecil Westbrook, James Westbrook, Ize Westbrook, all of Collierville, Tenn.; a brother, James A. Dowdy of Memphis; 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Westbrook, Parz Boyce, Andersen Jones, Jerry Westbrook, Richard Westbrook, Alex Westbrook, Mark Neely and James Hill Jr.

Eleree Sue Harpole Farris

Eleree Sue Harpole Farris, 76, of Red Banks, died June 7, 2006 at her home. She was a Methodist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Bro. Don Wilson officiated.

She leaves her husband, James W. Farris; two sons, Larry Farris of Nashville, Tenn., James C. Farris of Red Banks; two brothers, Samuel David Harpole Jr. of Rogers, Ark., Eugene Harpole of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Bobbie H. Black of Ft. Worth, Tx., Jimmy Lee H. Ludwig of Bossier City, La., Louene Herndon of Little Rock, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Mattie Mae James Hope

Mattie Mae James Hope, 87, of Holly Springs, died June 2, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of O.T. Hope.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 8 at Free Branch MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Shelby Washington officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her caregivers, two goddaughters, Mona Griffin, Deborah Porter, both of Holly Springs; caregiver godson, Walter Griffin of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie James and Mollie James; and two brothers, Willie James and Sylvester James.

Pallbearers were Travis Griffin, Mark Porter, Lexter Mull, Walter Griffin, Calvin Boga Jr. and Jairus LeaSure.

Sherry Ann Jones

Sherry Ann Jones, 47, of Holly Springs, died June 4, 2006 at Briarcrest Home Care in Ashland.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 10 at Royal Chapel CME Church in Slayden. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Thomas M. Harvey; her father, Joseph Jones Sr.; a brother, Joseph Jones Jr., all of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Mae Taylor.

Emmett Kimbrough

Emmett Kimbrough, 71, of Holly Springs, died June 2, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Great Oaks LLC in Byhalia. He was a member of Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a retired mechanic with the City of Holly Springs Sanitation Department.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 7 at Hopewell No. 2 MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. John Lee Isom officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Janie Glover Kimbrough; two daughters, May Kimbrough, Theresa Reaves, both of Holly Springs; two sons, Roger Kimbrough of Memphis, Tenn., Dennis Kimbrough of Cayce; a sister, Flora Dell Bowens of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Solomon Woodson of Holly Springs, Charles Mason of Lamar; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Hazell Riddle, Karl Campbell, Roosevelt Reeves, Mark Bland, Hubert Riddle, Ralph Howard, Maurice Campbell and James Riddle.
