Ruben Earl Morgan
Ruben Earl Morgan, 63, of Starkville died Feb. 23, 2003, at Clay County Medical Center in West Point. He had been visiting family there.
Mr. Morgan, a lifelong resident of Oktibbeha County, was known and loved by many. After 45 years as a local merchant and friend, he currently served as coordinator of the drug treatment program for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Mr. Morgan was chairman of the board for Paul's Home for Children in Sturgis. He was a lifelong member of the Jaycees, and was also a third-degree Mason and Shriner. He was a member and usher at Starkville Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Arick Morgan; two sons, Bill Morgan and his wife, Dawn, and Mike Arick Morgan and his wife, Alicia; one daughter Dr. Mona Castle and her husband, Alan; and seven grandchildren, Chandler Arick, Shannon Bingham, Carrie Shepherd, Jacob Castle, Shedd Castle, Morgan Castle and Sarah Castle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Gladney Morgan; his sister, Elizabeth Angeline Starns; and by his brother, Alford Hill Morgan.
Services were Feb. 25 at Starkville Church of God with Rev. Steve McCullar and Dewayne Blackwell officiating. Burial was in Pheba Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Starkville Church of God Building Fund.

Annie Mae Vance
Annie Mae Vance, 88, of Atkins, Ark. , and formerly of Maben, died Feb. 16, 2003, at Atkins Nursing Home.
Mrs. Vance, a homemaker, was born in Webster County on July 1, 1914. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Maben.
Survivors include one son, Jessie Vance of Pottsville, Ark. ; two grandchildren, John Vance of Bossier City, La. , and Anthony Vance of Russellville, Ark. ; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Feb. 19 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randle Poss officiating. Burial was in Vance Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Malcolm L 'Pete' Allday
Malcolm L. "Pete" Allday, 89, of Bellefontaine, died March 20, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Mr. Allday was born in Neshoba County to the late R. M. and Betty Allday. He was a retired carpenter with the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a Mason and a member of Walthall Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred S. Allday of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Mary Nell Allen and Elizabeth Ann Weddle of Eupora; one brother, George A. Allday of Gore Springs; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 21 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willie Weddle officiating. Burial was in Embry Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Weddle, Sidney Allen, Jeff Orr, Howard Rumore, Neal Allday and Jimmy Caffey.
James Bunyan Ellison
The Rev. James Bunyan Ellison, 80, died March 21, 2003, at his residence in Mantee.
The Rev. Ellison was born in Webster County on Oct. 24, 1922. He retired after serving as a Baptist minister for more than 35 years. He was a member of Clarkson Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ada Mary Turman Ellison of Mantee; his mother, Zenie Mae Wright Ellison of Mantee; seven daughters, Sue Palmer of Clarkson, Patsy Jenkins of Tupelo, Joyce Larmi and Jane Maddox of Eupora, Ann Dendy of Louisville,
and Betty Jo Medders and Barbara Gore of Mantee; three sons, David Ellison and Ronnie Ellison of Eupora, and Haven Ellison of Columbus; two sisters, Bonnie Sturdivant and Dora Moucha of Clarkson; two brothers, Paul Ellison of Cordova, Tenn. , and Joel Ellison of Albuquerque, N. M. ; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Bunyan Ellison.
Services were March 23 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Walter L. Yeager and Willie Weddle officiating. Burial was in Clarkson Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Lee Palmer, John Jenkins, the Rev. Keith Dendy, Phillip Medders, David Gore and George Maddox.
Honorary pallbearers were Keith Palmer, Don Palmer, Richard Palmer, Adam Cummings, Kim Hardin, Kyle Ellison, Chris Lott, Rane Ellison and Ken Palmer.
Frances Mildred Howell
Frances Mildred Howell, 77 of Ragsdale, Ala. , died March 23, 2003, at the Personal Care Home in Ragsdale.
Mrs. Howell, a retired Social Security claims authorizer, was a native of Webster County and made her home in Alabama her adult life. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Springville, Ala.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Shirley Howell of Springville; three sisters, Willie Mae Mitchell of Monticello, Ark. , Estelle Lacey of Brandon and Rosie Pell of San Francisco; three brothers, Willis Morgan of Eupora, Victor Morgan of Tupelo and Carey Morgan of Madison; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were March 24 at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Stewart officiating.

Olen D. McPherson
Olen D. McPherson, 82, of Ackerman, died March 21, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Mr. McPherson, a former county supervisor, was born in Choctaw County on Nov. 8, 1920.
Survivors include his wife, Maurine McPherson of Ackerman; two sons, Olen D. McPherson Jr. and David Lamar McPherson of Ackerman; one daughter, Brenda Nowell of Winona; one brother, Lonnie McPherson of Winona; four sisters, Ila Jones of Jackson, Clara Thompson of Indianola, Sarah Reed of Arkansas and Martha Justice of Ackerman; six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were March 23 at New Haven Baptist Church with the Revs Jimmy Latham and Bobby Parish officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mattie Gray Miles
Mattie Gray Miles , 80, of Maben, died March 19, 2003, at her residence in Maben.
Mrs. Miles, a homemaker, was born in Montgomery County on Dec. 14, 1922. She was a member of Providence Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Mike Young of Arnold, Md; two sons and daughters-in law, Ricky and Reba Miles of Lenoir City, Tenn. , and Tony and Dana Miles of Maben; two sisters, Alene Lott of Greenville and Margaret Harpole of Ettrick, Va; five grandchildren, Lori Rouse, Randy Miles, Amanda Miles, Stefanie Young and Jessica Young; and three great-grandchildren, Alex Rouse, Aaron Miles and Andrew Miles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clay Miles.
Services were March 22 at Providence Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Makamson, David Young, Mike Dobbs, Duane Miles, Terry Stidham, James Stidham, Herschel Stidham and Ian Miles.

Luerena Harris Reed
Luerena Harris Reed, 76, of Maben, died March 23, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Mrs. Reed, a homemaker, was born in Marshall, Ark. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Dero Reed of Maben; one daughter, Evelyn Fulce of Maben; three sisters, Rae Bryan of Marshall, and Geraldine Mitchard and Lee Vada Fowler of Kansas City, Mo. ; two brothers, Hubert Harris of Clearlake, Calif. , and J. M. Harris of Marshall; and one grandson, Daniel Maddox of Atlanta.
Services were March 25 at Double Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. John Foles and Waymond Betts officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Double Springs Cemetery Fund.

Funeral services for Kate Eaves, 97, of Noxubee, were held April 11, 2003 at Shuqualak United Methodist Church in Shuqualak with Bro. Don Sampley and Br. Del Blackmon officiating and interment in Shuqualak Cemetery. Eaves died April 9, 2003 at Kemper Homeplace Nursing Facility.
Eaves was born October 19, 1919 in Noxubee County. She was a retired retail sales clerk from Bethany Drug Store and TWL in Macon. She worked at Ledbetter Furniture and Appliance for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Shuqualak United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, David Eaves and wife Marie of Lucedale, Gilbert Eaves and wife Annette of Macon, Glenn Eaves and wife Pam of Ft. Worth; two brothers, Dallas Boone of Cantonment, FL, Howard Kellis Boone of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mary Inez Yates, 69, were held April 8, 2003 at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Louisville with Rev. Donald M. Bryant. Yates died April 4.
Yates was born May 13, 1933 in Leake County. She is survived by seven sons, Robert Yates and wife Virginia of Noxapater, Roy Yates and wife Callie, Melvin Yates and wife Betty, John Yates, James Yates all of Louisville, Edward yates of Philadelphia and Fletcher Yates of Clearwater, FL; three daughters, Annette Rush and husband Travis, Joyce Ann Patty and husband Joseph all of Preston, Mary Yates of DeKlab; four sisters, Mary Dean Allen, Josie Smith both of Louisville, Lille Pearl Miller of Clearwater, FL, Dora Mae Yates of Maben; 19 grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren. John L. "Chester" Dendy, Jr

Funeral services for John L. "Chester" Dendy, Jr. , 74, of Winona, were held April 7, 2003 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Rufus Carpenter and Mr. Dan Beardain officiating and interment in Dacus Cemetery near Stewart.
Mr. Dendy died April 5, 2003 at Winona Manor Nursing Home of Cancer. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a retired factory worker.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Joy Holand of Leakesville, Debra Ann Themis of Aransas Pass, TX, Elizabeth Darlene Bevis of Kilmichael, Peggy Lee Smith of Grenada; sisters, Lara Eva Hamlin of Stewart, Celesse Bell of Shiloh, TN, Polly Haire of Clarksdale; brother, Denver Dendy of Wayside; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Dendy was preceded in death by his wife Edna Dell Lamb Dendy.

Hazel C. King

Funeral services for Hazel C. King, 86, of Weir, were held April 6, 2003 at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Pender officiating and interment in Weir Cemetery.
King died April 4, 2003 at Beverly Health Care in Eupora of heart failure. She was a member of Weir Methodist Church and retired librarian with Weir Public Library.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Taylor of Clinton, Joyce Walters of Weir; sisters, Dell Barrett of Mobile, AL, Melvia Dougay of West Lake, LA; four grandchildren, one great grandchild.
King was preceded in death by her husband Roy T. King.

Josie Lovett Lucius

Funeral services for Josie Lovett Lucius, 99, of Eupora, were held April 3, 2003 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora and interment in Webster Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Russell Lucius, her sisters, Gussie Lovett, Ella Lovett Chandler, Cannie Lovett and brothers, Curry Lovett, Wess Lovett, Matt Lovett, Orin Lovett and Marvin Lovett. She was the last surviving member of her generation in the Lovett family and the Lucius Family. She will be remembered for her beautiful crochet work which she freely gave to family and friends. Her love for her family was a source of great strength for all. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church
Survivors include daughter, Becky Jones of Eupora; son, Ray Lucius and daughter-in-law Recenah of Eupora; four grandchildren: Nelson Lucius and wife Victoria of Tupelo; Valerie Lucius, Dallas, TX, Deeta Davis of Denham Springs, LA and husband William Fields of La Jolla, CA; two great grandchildren: Chandler and Olivia Lucius, Tupelo.
