Riley Alber Pharr

YORKTOWN, Ark. -- Riley Alber Pharr, 83, a farmer and merchant, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in Yorktown, Ark.

Services were held Tuesday at Griffin Funeral Services Chapel in Star City, Ark., with Bro. Robert Green officiating and interment in Oak Grove cemetery in Yorktown, Ark.

A Mt. Home, Ark., native, Mr. Pharr was a farmer and merchant. He served in the Army as E-3 in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Rocks Recreation Post 0067 and the Pine Bluff VFW. He was Pentecostal.

Pallbearers were Ronald Lee McEntire, Donald Brown, Lenny Frederick, Jimmy Hales, Jimmy Russell Hales and Dennis Simpson.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie White Pharr of Yorktown, Ark.; step-daughter, Bobbie Dean Hales of Camden; five grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Destry Querin

MADISON -- Destry Querin, 21, a student, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, of leukemia at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were held Saturday from the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland with interment in Parkway Memorial cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Madison, Mr. Querin was a graduate of Woodland Hills Baptist Academy and had attended Holmes Community College and Northwest Community College. He was an avid baseball player, having played from when he was 5 years old through high school. His parents said he enjoyed traveling and loved animals.

Survivors include his parents, Leon and Linda Querin of Madison; brother, Todd Querin of Madison; maternal grandparents, Marvin and Mary Downs of Terry; paternal grandmother, Evangeline Querin of Jackson; aunts, Sharon Newsom and Ellen Silcox, both of Terry, and Lori Truelove of Utica; uncles, Gordon Downs of Brandon, Allan Querin of Ridgeland, Jeffrey Querin of Jackson and Galen Querin of Ridgeland.

William Frederick Lynch 3rd

MADISON -- Mr. William Frederick Lynch 3rd, 41, a medical sales representative, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Services were held Friday at Christ United Methodist Church on Old Canton Road with interment in Parkway Memorial cemetery on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home handled arrangements.

A native of Jackson, Mr. Lynch graduated High School from Jackson Prep and attended Mississippi College on a baseball scholarship. He later attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from Belhaven College. He was a medical supply sales representative with Guidant Corp. He moved to Madison in 1984 where he was active in city youth sports programs. He coached boys baseball, soccer and football. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; sons, William F. Lynch 4th, Ryan Walker Lynch and Grady Wilson Lynch, all of Madison; parents, Dr. and Mrs. William F. Lynch Jr. of Madison; sister, Mary Frances Turner of Jackson; brothers, James Wilson Lynch of New Orleans, La., John E. Lynch of Brookhaven and Thomas H. Lynch of Jackson; and his grandmother Mrs. T.E. Wilson of Madison.

Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts Scholarship Fund in Jackson.

Susie McCardle

MADISON -- Susie Lee Hudson Bardwell McCardle, 91, a former sales representative, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, of heart failure at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Saturday at Stringer Funeral Home Chapel in Hazlehurst with interment in Hazlehurst cemetery.

Mrs. McCardle was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church of Madison. She was a resident of the Homeplace. She taught Sunday School, served as a choir member and helped with an exercise class there. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, where she was also a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include her daughters, Bobbie Holland of Clinton, Sylvia Delaney of Newellton, La., and Susie Frost of Corinth; step-daughter, Jean McCardle Holland of Coco Beach, Fla.; step-son, Jimmy Ray McCardle of Clarksdale; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Vivian Thompson Biddy

RIDGELAND -- Vivian Thompson Biddy, 78, a homemaker, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, of a stroke at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were held Saturday at Woodlawn cemetery in Grenada with Chaplain Marty Harper officiating. Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Grenada handled arrangements.

A graduate of John Rundle High School, Mrs. Biddy was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Grenada. She had worked at Camp McCain during World War II. Those who knew her said she was a devoted wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Preston "Buddy" Biddy.

Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Biddy Dyre and husband, Arnold, of Madison and Rita Biddy Hankins and husband, David, of Ripley; brother, Bedford F. Thompson Jr. of Grenada; and one grandson, Blake Hunter Hankins.

Aubrey Donald Culley

FLORA -- Aubrey Donald Culley, 78, a retired trucking manager, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson after a brief illness.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at First Baptist Church of Flora with visitation in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Mr. Culley had worked for Dealers Transport, Gordons Transport and as an independent trucker for many years. In 1965 he went to work for Flora Compress and Warehouse Co. In 1982, he retired after having served as manager of the trucking and fertilizer divisions of Flora Compress.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George E. Culley; and step-daughter, Anita Jo Stewart.

Survivors include his step-daughters Christie Young of Madison, Debbie Young of Flora and Jan Davis and husband, Jerry, of Dumas, Ark.; brothers, William Culley of Bonifay, Fla., and Horace Culley of Raton, N.M.; half-brother, Elbert Culley of Wagon Mound, N.M.; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Culley of Memphis, Tenn.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Ollie L. Hall

BRANDON -- Ollie L. Hall, 89, a retired aircraft mechanist, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, of congestive heart failure at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood.

Services were held Saturday from the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland with the Rev. Roger Taylor officiating and interment in Parkway Memorial cemetery in Ridgeland.

A Tift County, Ga., native, Mr. Hall had been a resident of the Jackson area since 1978. He was a Methodist. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired after 22 years as a mechanist with Lockhead Aircraft. Those who knew him said he was an avid fisherman and woodworker and loved to travel the country with his wife in their recreational vehicle.

Pallbearers were Greg Hall, Jim Carpenter, Chris Hall, Robbie Breazeale, Tim Hall and William Hall.

Survivors include his wife, Lyda Ross Hall of Brandon; sons, Ollie Ross Hall of Madison and William Lott Hall of Clinton; brother, T.W. Buchanan of Conyers, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., Mississippi Chapter, 1855 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, MS 39216.

Una Brewer Amsler

CANTON -- Una Brewer Amsler, 92, a homemaker, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, of heart failure at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Services were held Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church with interment at the Biloxi National cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.

Mrs. Amsler was a native of Claiborne County. She was raised in Canton where she had lived for the past 25 years having lived also in Guam, Texas, Arkansas, Germany, Virginia and Starkville with her husband of 65 years, "Dutch."

She was a 1928 graduate of Mississippi State College for Women. She was a member of Doak's Treaty Chapter, NSDAR, founding chapter president of the Samuel J. Ridley chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of America and First Families of Mississippi.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, H. S. "Dutch" Amsler of Canton; and sister, Doris B. Parker of Metarie, La.

Otis Bufkin

CLINTON -- Otis Bufkin, 85, an insurance manager and former teacher, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center of respiratory failure.

Services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Clinton with interment at the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery near Hazlehurst. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street handled arrangements.

A native of Copiah County, Mr. Bufkin had made his home in Clinton since 1956. He was a graduate of Copiah Lincoln Community College where he was a member of the football team. He was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame and was an active alumni. He graduated and played football at Millsaps College. Mr. Bufkin taught science and coached football at Lula-Rich schools in the Delta. He also taught science and coached football at Madison High School where he had two undefeated football seasons. He then moved to Edwards where he was principle, teacher and coach at the Edwards School. While in Edwards he received his master's degree in education from Mississippi College. After moving to Clinton in 1956 he became district manager for State Farm Insurance. He helped develop the first sales force for the Jackson area and he was a former Clinton alderman.

Mr. Bufkin also officiated at high schools, community colleges and colleges for 40 years. He helped found the Junior College Officials Association. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and was a member of the Dr. Howard Spell Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Bufkin, in 1995.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Bufkin Northern of Oxford; sons, Edward O. Bufkin Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and Thomas J. Bufkin of Madison; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and brother, Homer L. Bufkin of Hazlehurst.

Memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church Clinton, P. O. Box 72, Clinton, MS 39056, or to The Antioch Baptist Church cemetery Fund, 7087 Antioch Road, Hazlehurst, MS 39083.

William J. "Bill" McDonald

BRANDON -- William J. "Bill" McDonald, 72, a businessman, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La., of an apparent heart attack.

Services were held Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison with interment at Lakewood cemetery. Wright & Ferguson handled the funeral arrangements.

A native of Waco, Texas, Mr. McDonald graduated from the University of Houston. He had resided in Louisiana and North Carolina before moving to Jackson in 1975. He lived in Brandon for 25 years. Mr. McDonald was a businessman in the paper industry and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.

Mr. McDonald was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian McDonald of Brandon; daughters, Mary M. Boston of Baton Rouge, La., and Michele M. Sills of Madison; son, William Steven McDonald of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; brother, Dr. Charles N. McDonald of Richmond, Texas; six nieces; four nephews; four great-nephews and three great-nieces.

Jane Riechert Phillips

CANTON -- Jane Riechert Phillips, 91, a homemaker, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, of heart failure at University Medical Center.

Services were held Thursday, May 20, at Breeland Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with interment in the Canton cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Wesson, Ark., and had lived most of her life in Canton. She was a member of Center Terrace Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Phillips, who died in 1970, and her son, Freddie Maurice Phillips, who died 1993.

Survivors include her son, Donald W. Phillips of Madison; sister, Kathleen McRaney of Florence; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Walter Monroe Tullos Jr.

RIDGELAND -- Walter Monroe Tullos Jr., 76, a retired staff sergeant, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, from an aneurysm at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ridgeland with interment in the Natchez Trace cemetery in Madison. Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mr. Tullos was a native of Vaiden and a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeland. In 1965 he retired from the United States Air Force. He was a resident of Ridgeland for 27 years. Mr. Tullos ran the concession stand at the H. B. Wolcott Ballpark in Ridgeland for 15 years. He was active in Ridgeland Youth Baseball and enjoyed working with the children at the ballpark.

He was an avid fisherman and spent many happy hours fishing with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; son, Bobby Tullos of Braxton; daughters, Dorothy Adams of Ocean Springs and Becky Jenkins of Gluckstadt; sister, Anna Lee Kelly of Chickasaw, Ala.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
