William Hamilton Poag Jr.
William Hamilton “Nook” Poag, Jr., 80, of Memphis, Tenn., died January 7, 2014 at his home.
He retired from Unocal Oil where he was an outstanding salesman and won many awards.
He was a member of White Station Church of Christ and Windyke Country Club and a WWII Army veteran.
Mr. Poag was an avid sports fan. He had coached and refereed youth basketball and baseball, but he particularly loved golf. He also loved the University of Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Smith Poag; his daughter, Betsy Poag Biggs (Scott) of Memphis and two grandchildren, Bradley and Bryan Biggs; and a sister-in-law, Marie Walker Poag of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bob Poag.
The family received friends at 10 am. Saturday, January 11, the funeral service followed at 11 a.m. at White Station Church of Christ. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Homer Ward Jr.
Homer “Eddie” Ward Jr., 46, disabled mechanic, of Strayhorn, Miss., passed away January 12, 2014. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 16 at 6 p.m. at Brantley – Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando.
He is survived by his mother, Sissy Ivy Ward of Southaven; three daughters, Lucretia Ward (James) Terrell of Mulberry, Fla., Whitney Ward Price (Chris) of Slidell, La., Andrea Ward Valadez (Carlos) of Hubert, N.C.; three sisters, Janice Ward of Tunica, Lucy Ward Norwood of Byhalia, Gail Ward Nolan of Crandall, Texas; a brother, Tim Ward of Southaven; former wife of 23 years, Joyce Ward; and special friend, Marjorie Lee, and her children, Deanna and Anthony.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Edward Ward Sr. and his brother, Michael Ward.
Thomas P. Allen
Thomas P. Allen, 85, passed away February 19, 2008 at the Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford, Miss. Services were held at 10 a.m. on February 23 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed at Bethesda cemetery.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary B. Allen of Senatobia; four daughters, Barbara A. Allen of Senatobia, Robyn Hoover of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tory E. Whitmyer of Clearwater, Fla. and Peggy L. Bross of Williamsport, Pa.; a son, Robert T. Allen of Fairbanks, Alaska; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dale Richard Fairchild
Dale Richard Fairchild, 37, of Senatobia, passed away February 17, 2008. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed in Singleton Springs cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Alan and Gloria Maciejewski of Senatobia, Miss.; his grandmothers, Juanita Porter of Senatobia, Miss.; and Amelie Maciejewski of Munger, Mich.; and a sister, Sheila Fairchild of Wichita, Kan.
Junior "Dude" Powell Hollis
Junior "Dude" Powell Hollis, 76, of Southaven, Miss., passed away on February 20, 2008 at his home. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Church of God. Interment was at New Bethlehem on Church Rd.
He was retired from Turner Dairy and also a preacher and a member of Church of God.
Dude leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth Ann Gray Hollis of Southaven, Miss.; daughters, Angela Newcomb of Senatobia, Miss., Dianne Baldi of Lakeland, Tenn., and Rebecca Marcellini of Newman, Ga.; stepsons, Gary Henry of Horn Lake, Miss. and David Henry of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Wesley Hollis of Memphis, Tenn.; sister, Mittie Shea of Burnsville, Miss. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frank William Houck
Frank William Houck, 82, of Holly Springs, Miss., passed away at Baptist DeSoto on February 18, 2008.
Mr. Houck was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a retired tool and die maker from Chromcraft. He taught tool and die at Northwest Community College where he was also retired. He was a member of Knight on Columbus and Back Acres Country Club. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 and one half years, Doris Blaw Houck of Holly Springs, Miss.; two sons, William Houck, Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., and Joseph Timothy Houck of Coldwater, Miss.; two daughters, Ann H. Cissell of Bartlett, Miss., and Susan Scott of Holly Springs, Miss.; one brother, Wallace R. Houck of Senatobia, Miss.; two sisters, Elizabeth Yonker of Byhalia, Miss. and Martha Griffith of Olive Branch, Miss.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his children: Robert Alexander Houck, David Anthony Houck, Daniel Christopher Houck, and Paulette Catherine Houck. His parents, John Alexander and Mary Holloway Houck, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on February 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. Father Leonard Elder officiated. Interment followed in Hillcrest cemetery in Holly Springs, Miss. Pallbearers were Derick Fleming, Ben Cissell, Trae Houck, Larry Scott, Daniel Houck, Jeremy Houck, James Essex and James Cissell.
Memorials may be sent to New Hope Village in Holly Springs.
Diedra "Dee" Louise Pace
A Christian Funeral Service was held Thursday, January 31, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home Chapel for Diedra "Dee" Louise Pace, 40, who passed away peacefully Saturday, January 26, 2008 at her residence in Lafayette. Interment followed in Fountain Memorial cemetery in Lafayette.
Mrs. Pace was born
January 16, 1968. She was a native of Kingstown, Rhode Island and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Dee owned a spa in Lafayette, and she had an energy about her that would shine. She had a contagious smile. Dee was very involved with church and school. Her true vocation was to touch everyone she knew. She was a very devoted wife and mother. Dee will be sadly missed by her family and friends, and will never be forgotten.
Dee leaves behind her beloved husband of twelve years, Tommy Pace of Lafayette; her mother, June London Dixon, of Houma; one son Joshua Pace, and one daughter Sarah Pace, both of Lafayette; one sister April Usie and her husband Gary, of Houma; one niece Brooke Pullin, of Houma; and two nephews Bradley and Tyler Buccola of Abita Springs, La.
She was preceded in death by her father, the late Henry Hal Dixon, of Senatobia, Mississippi, and one brother, Henry Hap Dixon. She was the granddaughter of the late Colonel T.V. and May Dixon, of Senatobia, Mississippi.
A rosary was recited Wednesday evening, January 30, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fountain Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Active pallbearers were Dee's family and friends.
A special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for the care given to Mrs. Pace during her time of illness.

Helen Broadway Vancil
Helen Broadway Vancil, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend, died on February 12, 2008 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Dr. William Gardner officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Live Oak cemetery.
Survivors include husband, Edgar Allen Vancil of Selma; two sons, Gary Vancil of Selma and Keith Vancil and his wife, Melissa of Senatobia, Miss.; grandchildren, Mandy Vancil of Savannah, Ga., Keith Vancil, Jr., Forrest Vancil, and Hewston Vancil of Senatobia, Miss.
Mrs. Vancil was preceded in death by her mother.
She was born
in Rockmart, Ga. the daughter of Dewey Broadway. She grew up in Rockmart, Ga. and graduated from Rockmart High School. Her early years of marriage were spent being a military wife. Her husband was a member of the United States Air Force, and they were stationed at various bases before coming to Craig Air Force Base in Selma. Her children grew up in Selma where the Vancil's decided to make their permanent home. On Mr. Vancil's tour of duty in Vietnam, Mrs. Vancil remained in Selma with her sons. Her latter years were spent enjoying her children and grandchildren. She took great pleasure in her weekly gathering of friends to play various card games. Her other interests included gardening, sewing, and reading. Saturday, February 16, 2008 would have been Ed and Helen's fifty fourth wedding anniversary.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the BPOE Lodge #167 for the Scholarship Fund or the The Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
Corinne S. Waldrip
Corrine S. Waldrip, 88, of Harmontown, Miss., passed away February 19, 2008 in Oxford, Miss. Services were held at 11 a.m. on February 21, at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed at Old Waldrip cemetery in Harmontown.
Mrs. Waldrip was a member of Free Springs Methodist Church. She is the widow of Hal Waldrip. She is survived by a daughter, Sara Jo Soland of Montgomery, Texas; a grandson, Lee Ostner; and two great-grandchildren.
Ida L. Nelson Carter
Ida L. Nelson Carter, 54, of Como, Miss., passed away on April 4, 2015. Funeral services were held at Heart Generation Church in Sardis on April 11, at 3 p.m. Interment followed in Liberty Hill MB Church cemetery in Como.
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Jefferson of Charleston, S.C.; son, Patrick Nelson of Como; sisters, Tracy Taylor of Como, Carolyn Todd of Memphis, Tenn., Tersa Roberson of Como, and Mary Newson of Como; brothers, Tyrone Davis of Como, George Coley of Como, Michael Coley of Como, Desbit Coley of Como, Jason Roberson of Como, and Scottie Wilbourn of Como; and four grandchildren.
Jerry Wayne Goodman
Jerry Wayne Goodman, 59, of Crowder, Miss., passed away April 5, 2015 at his residence.
He is survived by his sisters, Faye Skeen of Senatobia, Rosie Spencer of Coldwater, Margaret Spencer of Coldwater, and Jessteen Hudson of Senatobia.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda cemetery in Senatobia.
Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
James W. Houston
James W. “Buddy” Houston went to be with the Lord Sunday March 22, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis after an extended illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Glenda B. Houston; sisters, Jamie (Bob) Chisholm; a special nephew, Thomas (Emily) Welshans; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Ann Roberts and Deborah K. Williams. Mr. Houston was a retired business owner. He and his wife were active members of Central Church in Collierville.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at Central Church. Interment followed at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, South on Holmes Rd.
Edith A. Kairit
Edith A. Kairit, 93, of Como, Miss., passed away April 7, 2015 at Senatobia Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Kairit was born
on November 13, 1921 in Obion County, Tenn. to the late Pearl Fentress and the late Hume Field Anderson.
She was a member of Como United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, was a retired bookkeeper and loved to play cards and cook.
She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Kairit is survived by her daughter, Christine Griffin (Sammie); and her son, Ken Kairit, both of Como; three grandchildren, Dr. Brant Kairit (Elizabeth) of Senatobia, Amber Helps (Simon) of Olive Branch, and Emily Griffin of Como; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ralph Kairit and her parents.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 9, at 2 p.m. in Como United Methodist Church. Rev. Phillip Dearman officiated. Burial followed in Friendship cemetery in Como.
