Smith, Duncan Tooles
Duncan Tooles Smith, 88, of Batesville, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at his residence.
Services were Saturday at Mt. Pisgah Church. Burial was at Mt. Pisgah cemetery in Enid. Rev. Marty Evans officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Smith, born
July 20, 1915, to the late Ernest Smith and the late Willie Bettie Howard Smith, was retired from the military of the United States, was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and participated in the Normandy Invasion where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also served in U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and he was discharged in August 1954 with rank of staff sergeant.
Survivors include one sister Aline Rogers Leech of Jackson, Tenn.
Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pisgah cemetery.

E.B. Smith, 78, of Marks, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial will be at Marks cemetery. Rev. Charlie Simmons will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

March 26, 1925, to the late Roy Smith and the late Etta Commer Smith, was a retired farmer, a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Ella Mae Smith of Marks; two daughters, Carla Smith McLarty of Marks and Melinda Pennington of Oxford; three sons, Gary Smith of Jackson, Joe Smith and Brad Smith, both of Marks; three sisters, Dale Henson of Greers Ferry, Ark., Doris Colbert of Lake City, Ark. and Emenella Johnson of Caraway, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association.
Smith, Evelyn McLemore
Evelyn McLemore Smith, 94, of Charleston, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Fairfield, Inc., Batesville. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Charleston. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Sept. 7, 1908, and was the wife of the late Dr. Monroe Smith and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Smith Hardy of Charleston; two sons, Ted Lucas Smith of Batesville, Gene Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Carl McLemore of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Smith, Jeanette Barrett
Jeanette Barrett Smith, 85, of Water Valley, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Yalobusha County Hospital of heart failure.
Services were Monday at Latham Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Oak Hill in Water Valley. Latham Funeral Home had charge.
Smith was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley.
She is preceded in death by her husband Herman (Hoss) Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Ben Barrett Smith of Batesville and James Mitchell "Pete" Smith of Water Valley; one sister Grace Barrett Lovorn of Canton; one brother Bill Barrett of West Point; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lessie Smith, 101, of Pope, died Jan . 20, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.
Services were Saturday at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Pope. Rev. William Bailey officiated services with interment at Pope Chapel cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary Inc. had charge .

March 6, 1902, in Oakland to the late Mr. Edward Shaw and the late Mrs. Addie B. Metcalf Shaw, was a retired school principal and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Pope. She was a church trustee, Victory Star #121 Pope, Deaconess, National Educator Association, Panola County Homemaker Club, and Church Secretary.
Survivors include grandchildren who cared for her, Juanita Smith of Oakland, Calif.; Lawrence Smith of L.A., Calif.; Deborah Fennie of West Palm Beach, Fla., Tommy E.. Smith, Jr. of Fremont, Calif.; Jill White of Atlanta, Ga.; Paul Smith of Hayward, Calif.; and nine great grandchildren.

Melvinie L. Reed Smith, 61, of Chicago, Ill., died Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, Ill.
Services are today at 2:30 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Rev. Melvin Jones will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Ronald "Ron" Dean Smith, 46, of Sardis, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Friday, May 9, at Andrews and Hardy Funeral Home in Detroit, Mich. Cooley's Mortuary had charge.

Clyde Spann, 90, formerly of Sardis, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Allan Brook Nursing Home in Memphis of natural causes.
Services are Sunday at 12 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial will be at Rose Hill in Sardis. Rev. Roy Allan will officiate. Wate is Saturday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Sardis. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Spann, born
July 12, 1912, to the late John Spann and the late May Cox was a dairy farmer and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mattie F. Vallentine, Betty Thelma Vallentine and Mary Elma Spann, all of Memphis; two sons, Robert Spann of Memphis and Curtis Spann of Sardis; one sister Eva Brooks of Memphis and 26 grandchildren.

Mary Marie St. John, 81, of Batesville, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Monday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Garden in West Helena, Ark. Rev. Mike Beck officiated. Waller Funeral Home had charge.
St. John was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Water Valley and a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Laurel Horton of Batesville, Della Griffin of Auburn, Ala., and Pat Moore of Grand Isle, La.; two sons, Lee Jones of Bellingham, Wash., and Ronnie Jones; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie St. John.

Elizabeth Grace Stephens, 2, of Pope, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial was at Magnolia cemetery. Rev. Paul Middleton and Rev. John Howell officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Holley, N.J., Barbara Ward Stevens, Jim and Billy Jean Sossaman, all of Batesville and Edith Mae Pratt of Pope.
