JASPER
Gladys Ozelma Spratley Jasper, 78, Jefferson City, died Jan. 16, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born March 1, 1924, in Big Piney, a daughter of Elmer and Zora Vaughn Carroll. She was married April 14, 1941, in Waynesville, to Cecil Dwyer Spratley, who died Aug. 4, 1990. She was married May 14, 1994, to Ray Jasper, who survives at the home.
She was a homemaker and member of Cole Springs Baptist Church, Russellville. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1003, Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 5 and Ladies Auxiliary Eagles Aerie 2693, all in Jefferson City.
Other survivors include: one son, Alton Dwyer "Bob" Spratley, state of Florida; one daughter, Peggy Joan Northup, Columbia; one brother, Herschel Carroll, Big Piney; one sister, Orpha Wood, Springfield; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Cellis Crum and the Rev. Make Hare will officiate. Burial will be in Vienna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to Cole Springs Baptist Church.
DUNCAN
Helen L. Duncan, 88, Jefferson City, died Jan. 13, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born April 27, 1914, in St. Louis, a daughter of William and Lillian M. Hutchins Duncan.
She graduated from Columbia's Hickman High School and from the Flat River Junior College, Farmington. A Jefferson City resident since 1958, she was an auditor for the Missouri Hotel for 12 years, office manager of the Capital City Volkswagen dealership, and the secretary and bookkeeper for Charles "Bo" Fain and Ted Stewart for many years. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and the Order of the Eastern Star's Jefferson Chapter No. 496.
Survivors include: one cousin, Grace Baeppler, Sunbury, Ohio.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Harvel Sanders officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at the Bethany Cemetery, St. Louis.
Memorials are suggested to the Grace Episcopal Church or to an animal-related charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Mortuary.
JOHNSON
Lucy Evelyn Johnson, 82, Eldon, died Jan. 16, 2003, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
She was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Illinois, a daughter of John and Alice Pope Jones.
She was a former restaurant owner and a member of the Eugene Christian Church.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
Services will be at a later date. The body was donated to the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
JOHNSON
Otto E. Johnson, 95, Eldon, died Jan. 18, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 6, 1907, in Buckhorn, a son of Richard N. and Sedalia A. Hovis Johnson. He was married Nov. 14, 1931, in Marble Hill, to Hazel Lydia Ellen Crader, who died April 21, 2000.
He was an auto mechanic and attended Old Time Gospel Church, Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, Bobby J. Johnson, Eldon; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Baker Cemetery, Marble Hill. The Rev. Gene Cain will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Memorials are suggested to Old Time Gospel Church.
JOHNSON
Dale N. Johnson, 63, Iberia, died Jan. 17, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born July 14, 1939, in Hale, a son of Claude W. and Una B. Hooper Johnson. His mother survives in Marshall. He was married Nov. 25, 1960, in Winslow, Ariz., to Virginia Armstrong, who survives at the home.
He was a truck driver, a high priest group leader at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Church of Osage Beach, and served in the Air Force.
Other survivors include: six sons, Justin D. Johnson, Bartlesville, Okla., Christopher A. Johnson, Napton, W. Zech Johnson, Whiteman Air Force Base, C.W. Johnson, Ogden, Utah, Norman J. Johnson, Columbia, and Mark E. Johnson, Chino Valley, Ariz.; two daughters, V. Gale Nelson, Garland, Utah, and U. Pearl Thompson, Carmi, Ill.; three brothers, Larry G. Johnson and Thomas K. Johnson, Marshall, and Terry L. Johnson, Dunksberg; three sisters, Claudia Wiseman, Independence, Laurel A. Robison, Pittsburg, and Brenda Jones, Indian Grove; and 37 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Osage Beach. Bishop Evan Connell will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Sumner.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
Memorials are suggested in care of the family.
MEADS
Lonas Ray Meads, 90, Independence, died Jan. 14, 2003, at Medical Center of Independence.
He was born May 6, 1912, in Edith, a son of Alexander B. and Elsie Osborn Meads. He was married Aug. 24, 1941, to Sylvia Lorene Creach, who survives at the home.
He attended school in Pleasant Grove and Chapel Bluff. He worked in the timber industry in California, raised cattle, drove a school bus in the Macks Creek area, was a firefighter for the conservation department and worked for the highway department. In 1952, he moved to Kansas City and worked for The Vendo Company, maker of Coca Cola vending machines, for 25 years before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Macks Creek.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Gies, Beavercreek, Ohio, and Martha Wood, Macks Creek; two sisters, Maye Jackson, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Faye Newton, Macks Creek; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
One infant daughter, Linda Lou Meads, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Macks Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges Funeral Home, Macks Creek.
MORRIS
Services were today for Lutetia S. Morris, 106, Versailles, who died Jan. 16, 2003, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
She was born Aug. 18, 1896, in Cooper County, a daughter of Will and Lutetia Mills Byler. She was married July 6, 1918, to Samuel E. Morris, who died Oct. 14, 1968.
She lived in Prairie Home and graduated from California High School. She moved from Boonville to Versailles in 1925. She was active in the First Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, William E. Morris, Wilmington, Del., and Harry Leland Morris, St. Louis; one sister, Frances Carpenter, Bella Vista, Ark.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Lucille Grills, died in 1979.
Services were at Calvary Baptist Church, Versailles. The Rev. Bill Johnson and the Rev. Bob Nichols officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
TWENTER
Devon Joseph Twenter, son of Aaron Twenter and Melinda Vaughn, Tipton, was stillborn Jan. 15, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.
Other survivors include: paternal grandparents, Christina Kennedy, Tipton, and Marvin and Sharon Twenter, Columbia; maternal grandparents, Frank and Rhonda Vaughn, Tipton; paternal great-grandparents, Charles and Margaret Bestgen, Tipton, and Henry Twenter, Pilot Grove; maternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Fern Brown, Mesa, Ariz., Johnny Vaughn, Clarksburg, and Buddy and Geneva Hopkins, Mesa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tipton. The Rev. David Veit will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
