ZIMMERMAN
William D. Zimmerman, 73, Chamois, died June 9, 2001, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.
He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in St. Louis, a son of Robert Schmidt and Esther Zimmer.
A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, he attended school in Gasconade County. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed as a truck driver before retiring from Jones and Turner Trucking Co. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include: three sons, Dennis Schmidt, Hermann, Robert Zimmerman, Chattanooga, Tenn., and David Zimmerman, Clinton, Iowa; five daughters, Donna Kay Burkley, Lana J. Zimmerman and Denise E. Woods, all of Clinton, Iowa, Cheryl L. Dahlin, LeClair, Iowa, and Jeri L. Zimmerman, Columbia; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
One son, Bill Schmidt, died in 1996.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
WHITE
Lt. Col. Jess E. White , 86, Jefferson City, died June 11, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center.
He was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Jess R. and Mary E. Callahan White . He was married May 4, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., to Norma E. Miller who survives at the home.
He graduated from Wyondotte County, Kan., schools. He received his flight training and pilot's license in 1939. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, after joining the Royal Canadian Air Force and serving as a flight instructor and pilot. He retired from active military duty in 1964 in Houston, Texas . He later moved to Austin, Texas , before moving to Jefferson City in 1992.
He was a member of the Lions Club; Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693; the B.P.O. of Elks, Lodge 513; and the Ox-5 Club, where he served as president in San Antonio.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Lin Williams, Jefferson City, and Dani White -Baldwin, Dickerson, Texas ; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
One son, Jess E. White II, died in 1959.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. Private graveside services will be Friday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
CARVER
Gertrude I. Carver, 86, Versailles, died June 9, 2001, at Laurie Care Center.
She was born July 19, 1914, in Morgan County, a daughter of Mallery and Rhoda Cornett McGinnis. She was married to Fred Zwanzig, who preceded her in death. She was married Jan. 26, 1944, to Ernest A. Carver, who died Jan. 17, 1992.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Darlene Zwanzig, Gravois Mills; and one stepson, Col. Samuel Zwanzig, San Bernardino, Calif.
Two stepsons, Quinten Zwanzig and Lyle Zwanzig, and three stepdaughters, Edith Zwanzig, Menti Zwanzig and Mary Alice Perrina, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Danny Owsley will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
BROWN
Graveside services were Monday for Roxie Lizzie Sexton Brown, 89, Kansas City, formerly of Jefferson City, who died June 6, 2001, in Platte County.
She was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Excelsior Springs, a daughter of Charlie and Alma Robinson.
She was a member of the Bakers Union Local 218 and the River of Life Church. She worked as a machine operator for a book bindery company.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Sexton and Charles Sexton; one daughter, Alma J. Clay; and one sister, Mary Snedder, North Kansas City; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the of McGilley Antioch Chapel.
DeATLEY
Karen Leigh DeAtley, 40, Marshall, formerly of Jefferson City, died June 12, 2001, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
She was born Aug. 4, 1960, in Kansas City, a daughter of Janice Sue Leach Heflin. Her mother survives her in Lohman.
Other survivors include: two sisters, Kim Robbins, Jefferson City, and Beth DeAtley, Lohman; maternal grandmother, Venita Leach, Jefferson City; and stepfather, Eldon L. Heflin, Lohman.
Private graveside service will be held at Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall. Pastor Eldon L. Heflin will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday until 2:30 p.m. at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall.
Memorials are suggested to Marshall Habilitation Center.
FERGUSON
Margaret Ann "Marge" Ferguson, 46, Florence, died June 7, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1954, in Poth, Texas , a daughter of D.J. and Frances Felts Ferguson.
She was self employed as a hairdresser for many years. She worked at Starline, Sedalia, and was currently employed at Bent Sands Farms, Florence.
Survivors include: one son, Jared Proctor, of the home; one brother, Jim Ferguson, Pleasanton, Texas ; and one sister, Linda Ferguson, Tempe, Ariz.
The remains were cremated. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. The Rev. Kenneth Tatkenhorst will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Marge Ferguson Memorial Fund.
ISAACSON
Philip Eugene Isaacson, 59, Holts Summit, died June 10, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 21, 1942, in Huntsville, a son of Clarence N. and Amy Alice Idle Isaacson. He was married April 8, 1967, in Cedar City, to Mary Ratcliff, who survives at the home.
He was a contract postal service truck driver for Kallmeyer Brothers. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Holts Summit.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Ginny Kollmeier, New Bloomfield; one sister, Alice Pearl Upschulte, Jefferson City; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Stephen Krenz will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Memorial Park, Holts Summit.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit, and from 1:30-2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church.
WILLIAMS
Alfred Williams, 71, Versailles, died June 11, 2001, at his home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Versailles, a son of Alfred E. and Nellie Yarnell Williams. He was married March 17, 1951, to Thelma June Sidebottom, who survives at the home.
An Air Force veteran, he received a degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State University. He worked as an Internal Revenue Agent, Kansas City, and as a rural carrier for the Postal Service. He operated an income tax service in Tipton, Fortuna and Sunrise Beach.
He played baseball for the Versailles Merchants and was a member of the Versailles Tiger Basketball Team of 1947.
He was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Versailles, the Shrine of St. Patrick, Laurie, and the Rolling Hills Country Club, Versailles.
Other survivors include: six sons, Charles Stanley Williams, Republic, Stephen Earnest Williams, Ballwin, Robert "Bob" Allen Williams, Tipton, Daniel Louis Williams, Springfield, David Trusten Williams, Camdenton, and Thomas Manning Williams, Lee's Summit; two sisters, Loetta Pace, Versailles, and Aleine Brown, Versailles; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Versailles. Fr. C.D. Ryan and Fr. Fred Barnett will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Laurie.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles, with a rosary at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie, Mo., or St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Versailles.
VARDELL
Lee Brett Vardell, 44, Jefferson City, died June 11, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Kennett, a son of Alberta Joyce Vardell, who survives in Jefferson City. He was married June 6, 1987, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Cecily Ann Myers, who survives in Hartsburg.
A 1974 graduate of Kennett High, he received a degree from Columbia College in 1985. In 1988, he graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law and was admitted to the Missouri Bar Association.
He served as a law clerk for Missouri Supreme Court Judges Donelly and Welliver, was an assistant attorney general, a staff attorney in Senate Research, and was the administrative assistant to State Sen. Franc Flotron and, most recently, to State Sen. David Klarich.
He was a member of Ely Baptist Church, Kennett; and the Missouri Bar Association.
Other survivors include: four sons, Ian B. Vardell, Reid S. Vardell, Christian F. Vardell and Colin D. Vardell, all of Hartsburg.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McDaniel Funeral Home, Kennett. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kennett.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home and 6-9 p.m. Friday at McDaniel Funeral Home, Kennett.
Memorials are suggested to an educational fund for his sons.
