Faye Marie McCradic
Faye Marie McCradic was born April 30, 1927, in Seymour, Ind., the daughter of the late James Wayne Mitchell and Amanda Richardson Mitchell. She died Dec. 13, 2008, in Batesville, Ark., at the age of 81.
She was united in marriage March 23, 1944, at Indianapolis, Ind., to Elmo Lloyd McCradic who preceded her in death Aug. 11, 1995.
She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by: three children, James McCradic of Willard, Mo., Jerry Williams of Mammoth Spring, Ark., and William McCradic of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; a special friend, Ron Andrews of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; five grandchildren, Allen, Pam, Tim, Brent and Dina; one sister, Geneva Owens of Lebanon, Ind.; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Elmo McCradic; one grandson, Dale; one son-in-law, Glenn Williams; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Dec. 17 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. Burial followed in the Field Creek Cemetery at Mammoth Spring with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Lavern Davis
Lavern Davis was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Leachville, Ark., the daughter of the late William Miles Reding and Lula Stewart Reding. She died Nov. 22, 2008, in Salem, Ark., at the age of 82.
She, along with her late husband, W.E. Davis, was a merchant, owning and operating a grocery store and later an auction service for many years.
She also worked at the Salem Shirt Factory for several years and after retirement age, at the local Walmart store.
She was a Christian and an active member of the United Pentecostal Church in Thayer, Mo.
She is survived by: her children, Sam Whittaker of Memphis, Tenn., Randall Whittaker and wife, Deri of Memphis, Tenn., Rhonda Blankenship and husband, David of West Plains, Mo., and Sheila Roberts and husband, Mark of Pottersville, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorene Mitchell of Belleville, Ill., and Mary Edgin of Arbyrd, Ark.; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, W.E. Davis on Oct. 30, 2000; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. C.A. Starnes officiating. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Eugene Chronister
Eugene Jewell Chronister, 97, of Alton, Mo., was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Alton, Mo., and died Dec. 18, 2008.
He was united in marriage to Ina Jackson on Oct. 10, 1931. They celebrated 74 years of marriage before she preceded him in death three years ago.
Jewell and Ina lived in St. Louis for over 30 years, then in several communities in Illinois and Wisconsin while he worked for J.I. Case Company.
He retired after 37 years with the company and they moved to Alton in 1972.
They were both long time members of the First Baptist Church of Alton.
He is survived by: one daughter, Carolyn Belt of Alton; two sons, Robert Chronister and wife Sue of Alton, and Vernon Chronister and wife Joyce of West Plains, Mo.; three brothers, Granville Chronister and wife Callie of Alton, Duane Chronister and wife Jean of Sikeston, Mo., and Leroy Chronister and wife Irene of Alton; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Grissum and husband Harold of Alton; six grandchildren, Craig Chronister and wife Angie of West Plains, Brian Chronister of Philadelphia, Terry Belt of Arlington, Va., Jill Pierce of Chicago, Richard Chronister and wife Regena of West Plains, and Andrew Chronister and wife Kim of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, George and Floy Chronister; and one sister, Verna Siegel.
Services were held Dec. 20 at the Alton First Baptist Church, with Dr. Todd Ewing officiating. Interment followed in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements were made under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton.
