Bradley J. Deems, 54, of Urbana, MO, formerly of Marshall, MO, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Pryor, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Saline Animal League.
Born February 5, 1955, in Butler, MO, he was the son of the late Harley John Deems and Rena Dale Bradley Deems. On February 24, 1973, he married Virginia Ann Melies who survives of Marshall. On July 11, 1986, he married Debbie Bell who survives of the home. He had lived in Urbana the last three years, but spent most of his adult life in Marshall where he was a 1973 graduate of Marshall High School. He served on the Marshall Police Department, was a deputy sheriff in Caldwell County and assisted in the family business, Deems Farm Equipment in Marshall.
In addition to his two former wives, he is survived by one son, Christopher Deems and wife April of Columbia, MO; one daughter Tracy Deems and companion, Javier Espinoza of Marshall; five grandchildren, Bryce and Drake Deems and Cordell, Khloe and Vida Espinoza; one sister, Julie Julien and husband Don of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Marie Deems.
Colleen Kalthoff
October 12, 1926 - March 18, 2008
Barbara Colleen Gorman Kalthoff, 81, of Waverly, MO, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Apple Ridge Care Center in Waverly.
Born October 12, 1926, in Grand Pass, MO, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Gorman and Teresa Rohn Gorman. On July 10, 1945, in Marshall, she married Richard Kalthoff who preceded her in death on June 22, 1995. She had lived in Branson, MO the last 25 years returning to Waverly in 2007.
Survivors include her children, Rick Kalthoff of Waverly, Tonya Lemonds of Kansas City, KS, Robin Kalthoff of Grand Pass and Heidi Kalthoff of Waverly; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Gorman of Jamestown, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Kalthoff, one brother, Jack Gorman, and three sisters, Eileen Kemp, Jenny Thorp and Bert Wade.
Lana Hightower
January 19, 1953 - May 14, 2014
Lana Hightower, 61, of Independence, MO, formerly of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating. Memorials may be made to Wayside Waifs in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born January 19, 1953, in Marshall, Lana was the daughter of the late William O. (Bill) Hightower and Alberta Heinzler Hightower Dierking who survives of Marshall. She was a 1971 graduate of Marshall High School and was employed by the Marshall Habilitation Center in the 1970’s. She lived in Independence most of her life.
In addition to her mother, Alberta, Lana is survived by five siblings, Mary Dyer of Independence, Ed Hightower of Marshall, Beth Thomas of Grain Valley, Jeanne Scheef of Marshall and Nancy Campbell of Marshall; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her father, Lana was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Hightower; and two stepfathers, Harvey Dierking and Wallace Dierking.
Ruth M. Herndon

Ruth M. Herndon, 82, of Marshall, MO, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Westport Assisted Living in Marshall
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. David Slusher and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Gill Memorial Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice.
Born July 14, 1931, in Saline County, MO, Ruth was the daughter of the late Noah Baker and Lola Davis Baker. On July 29, 1949, she married Edward L. Herndon who preceded her in death on March 21, 1986. She lived in Marshall most of her life and retired from ConAgra Frozen Foods. She was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Lawrence Baker of Marshall; one sister, Velma Bacon of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews who she considered her children.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by four brothers, Amos, Earl, Alva and Norman Baker; two sisters, Lillian Bryan and Mary Frain; and twin sisters, Doris and Dorothy Baker.
Angelica Garcia
November 11, 1971 - May 15, 2014
Angelica Garcia, 42, of Marshall, MO, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at her home.
Born November 11, 1971, in San Salvador, El Salvador, Angelica was the daughter of the late Manuel Garcia and Preciosa Sandoval who survives of Marshall. She lived in Marshall the last six years where she was employed by Cargill.
In addition to her mother Preciosa, Angelica is survived by three children, Wendy Mendoza of Marshall, Raul Garcia of Sedalia, MO and Jose Armando Delgado of Marshall; three grandchildren, Jacob Mendoza, Isaac Mendoza and Dariel Garcia; five siblings, Patricia Garcia of El Salvador, Manuel Sandoval of San Francisco, CA, Raul Garcia of Marshall, Jorge Sandoval and Cesar Garcia of Stockton, CA; several nieces and nephews; and maternal grandfather, Francisco Sandoval of El Salvador.
Harlan A. Gieseke
November 25, 1932 - May 4, 2014
Harlan A. Gieseke, 81, of Sweet Springs, MO, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, with Pastor Dan Wing officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. Burial with military rites will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Born November 25, 1932, in Pettis County, MO, Harlan was the son of the late Walter A. Gieseke and Frieda Heins Gieseke. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on April 27, 1956. On September 6, 1958, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, he married Lois Eckhoff who survives of the home. He retired in 1982 after 30 years of service at General Motors Fairfax Division. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as elder, chairman of congregation and held various other positions. He was chief and assistant chief of Sweet Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member Sweet Springs American Legion Post 279 and a former member of the Sweet Springs Lions Club. He served on several city boards including Food Pantry Board and Sweet Springs Revitalization Board and was chairman of the Park Board. He was also city zoning administrator.
In addition to his wife, Lois, Harlan is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Sullivan and husband Steven of rural Marshall, Lana Scott and husband Jerry of Concordia and Jill Gieselman and husband David of Sweet Springs; four grandchildren, Rev. Joshua Sullivan and wife Erin, Matthew Sullivan and wife Sarah, Lindsey Scott and Courtney Gieselman; three great-grandchildren, Amos and Emma Sullivan and Myka Sullivan; two brothers, Harold Gieseke of Sweet Springs and Gene Gieseke of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harlan was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Goaz.
Vernon Meyer
October 8, 1921 - May 11, 2014
Vernon Meyer, 92, of Emma, MO, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma with Pastor Jacob Mueller officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Nursing Home.
Born October 8, 1921 in Emma, he was the son of the late Lambert Meyer and Hulda Dittmer Meyer. Vernon had lived in the Emma area his entire life and was a graduate of Concordia High School. Vernon served in the U.S. Army from September 9, 1942 until October 24, 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He had served in the Philippines and earned the following decorations: Asiatic Pacific Medal with 3 combat stars, Philippine Liberation medal, Philippine Presidential Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Good Conduct Medal. Vernon became a life member of Concordia V.F.W. Post 5649 and Concordia American Legion Post 258. On June 5, 1946 Vernon married LaVerna Hemme who preceded him in death on September 27, 2008. He was bulk plant manager for MFA in Emma for 20 years; was a truck driver for MFA, Schelp & Schelp, and Gen Com, Inc.; and worked for many years for Berg Mortuaries. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he had served on many boards and committees.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Martens and husband Allan of Gladstone, MO and Beverly Henning and husband Rob of Olathe, KS; one daughter-in-law, Diane Meyer of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Loretta Heermann of Emma, MO and Jane Roper and husband Paul of St. Louis, MO; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Meyer; an infant brother, John Russell Meyer; and one sister, Lula Mae Frizzell.
