Clifton W. Jackson
Clifton W. Jackson of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the age of 85 years.
Mr. Jackson was born December 20, 1915 in Washington County near Sullivan to Walter and Jesse (Sprinkle) Jackson. He had lived his entire life in the Sullivan area except for time spent in the military during W.W.II. He honorably served in the U.S. Army where he saw action in the battles and campaigns of Rome Arno, Southern France, the Rhineland and Naples Foggia. He received four Bronze Stars and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military occupational specialty was an MP. After his discharge in November of 1945, he returned home to Sullivan and on May 4, 1946 was married to Nancy Schatz in Sullivan. His vocation was that of a truck driver for the former Kimberlin Oil Company. For a time he also worked for Ralph Davis at the Shell Station in Sullivan. Mr. Jackson was a loving family man who found pleasure in gardening, cutting wood, and the outdoors. He attended First Assembly of God in Sullivan and will long be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, three sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Claudia Jackson, Mike and Jane Jackson, and Les and Angie Jackson all of Sullivan, four grandchildren, Mitch, Christina, Lance and Kyle Jackson, two great-grandchildren, Dane and Tanner Jackson, other relatives and a host of friends. Along with his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by three brothers, Rolla, Guy and Leslie Jackson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday from the First Assembly of God in Sullivan with interment in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Clifton Jackson will be from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. Thursday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at First Assembly of God. Those who desire may make memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Eugene M. Immekus
Eugene M. Immekus of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the age of 75 years.
Mr. Immekus was born on June 11, 1925 in Sullivan to the late Henry Adolf and Gladys (Martin) Immekus. He was raised in Sullivan, and, following his graduation from high school, enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during World War II as a Bombardier in the Air Corps, and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant in October 1945. Throughout his adult years, Mr. Immekus taught music in the public school systems, and also engaged in carpentry in the housing industry. He enjoyed spectator sports, listening to music, and spending time with his family, but especially with his grandson, Luther. Mr. Immekus was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan, and will be remembered and cherished as a kind-hearted man who was unselfish and giving.
He is survived by his wife, Vida Sue Immekus of Sullivan; one daughter, Karen Gambill of Sullivan; one grandson, Luther Everhart of Sullivan; one aunt, Hazel Colbert of the state of Oklahoma; cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2001 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating. Interment was in the Stanton Cemetery.
Robert "Bunny" Kendrick
Robert “Bunny” Kendrick of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James at the age of 64 years.
Bunny, as he was known by his family and friends, was born April 12, 1936 at Sullivan, Missouri to Walter and Elizabeth (Cain) and was a life long resident of the Sullivan area. He was known for his generous heart and funny disposition. He found pleasure in fishing, baseball and other sports in general. Bunny honorably served his country with the U.S. Army, having attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed for a time with the former International Shoe Company in Sullivan and later with the City of Sullivan Street Department.
He is survived by three sons; Robert Kendrick, Jr. of Gray Summit, Missouri, Shawn Kendrick of Long Beach, California and Dennis Kendrick of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Walter Kendrick, Jr. of St. James, Missouri; one sister, Arzetta Smyth of Sullivan, three grandchildren, Alexandria, Derrick and Anthony Kendrick, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Bunny was preceded in death by two brothers; Walter and Lawrence Kendrick and by three sisters, Willa Mae Schulte, Ruth Holt and Marie Payton.
Visitation for Mr. Kendrick will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. There will be no services.
Gilbert Simmons
Gilbert E. Simmons of Cuba, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2001at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife, Genevie Simmons of Cuba; two sons, Carl Simmons and wife, Peggy of Bourbon, Missouri and Dan Simmons and wife, Carol of Sullivan, Missouri; three daughters, Jean Fife and husband, Tom of Leasburg, Diann Crump and husband, Ward of Bourbon, and Connie Shelton and husband, Duane of Bourbon; nine grandchildren, T.J. Fife of Kansas City, Missouri, Dena Carroll, Caren Cain, and Jeff Simmons, all of Sullivan, Jennifer Harmon, Chris Crump, Derrick Martin, Veronica Shelton, and Lucas Shelton, all of Bourbon; seven great-grandchildren, Shad Cain of Jefferson City, Missouri, Adam Bass of Kansas City, Missouri, Kamron Simmons, Lexi Fletcher, and Holden Carroll, all of Sullivan, Kyler Crump and Sydney Harmon, both of Bourbon; one great-great-grandchild, Makoy Cain of Jefferson City; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Gilbert Simmons will be from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Elsie M. Richardson
Elsie M. Richardson of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Meramec Nursing Center, in Sullivan at the age of 88 years.
Elsie was born June 7, 1912 at Cherryville, Missouri to James H. and Ruth Ethel (Halbert) Richardson. She was raised in the Cherryville area and at the age of 16, moved to Sullivan. She later made her home in Kansas City, Missouri where she was employed as a seamstress in the clothing industry. Upon retirement, she returned to the Bourbon area to make her home. Though she never married, she provided and cared for many people especially her numerious nieces and nephews. She was known as a sweet and kind individual who found pleasure in sewing and traveling. Elsie was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bourbon and was a faithful worker for her Lord until her death.
She is survived by a brother John Richardson of Bourbon, three sisters-in-law, Fern Richardson of Pevely, Missouri, Lorene Richardson of Kansas City and Mary Richardson of Bourbon, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy, George and Herman Richardson and by two sisters, Ethel Bell and Emma Richardson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday from the First Assembly of God Church in Bourbon with interment in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Kathleen Splittorff
Kathleen R. Splittorff of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the age of 48 years.
Ms. Splittorff was born on September 28, 1952 in Sullivan, Missouri to Velma (Ryerson) Spicer and the late Elmer E. Spicer. Kathleen graduated from the Bourbon High School and lived the majority of her life in Bourbon and Sullivan area. She worked as a practical nurse for a few years, but primarily served her family as a dedicated homemaker. She carried a distinct love in her heart for all animals, but especially for her cats. Kathleen was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon. She will be remembered and cherished as a loving and giving person, but in particular for being a doting and dedicated mother.
She is survived by one son, Travis Gatlin of Bourbon; her mother, Velma Spicer of Bourbon; her fiancee, John Missey of Bourbon; one brother, George Spicer and wife, Katherine of Bourbon; one sister, Fern Griffith of Sullivan; one grandson, Travis Gatlin, Jr. of Bourbon; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001 from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor David Zirpel officiating. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Kathleen Splittorff.
Leora E. Riggins
Leora E. Riggins of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the age of 80 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Brake and husband, Jim of Sullivan and Katherine June Brumangen of Montgomery City, Missouri; four brothers, Carlos Boyer and wife, Louise and Alvin Boyer and wife, Bernice, all of Granite City, Illinois, Buddy Boyer and wife, Mable of Florissant, Missouri and Clyde Boyer and wife, Russey of Bridgeton, Missouri; two sisters, Lenora Aubuchon of Ellsinore, Missouri and Goldie Wheeler and husband, Herschel of Ft. Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2001 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, Normandy, Missouri. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in memory of Mrs. Leora Riggins.
Thelma Lorraine McWilliams
Thelma L. McWilliams formerly of Sullivan, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Delmar Gardens West Nursing Center in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 21 days.
Mrs. McWilliams was born November 14, 1929 in the State of Virginia to John Emory and Lula Bell Henson Worley. On June 22, 1947 she was married to Ralph Hugh McWilliams at Bourbon, Missouri. She was employed ten years at the St. Louis Union Trust Company and later in 1974 was employed as a graphics instructor with AM Multigraphics until her retirement in 1984. In 1981 she and her husband made their home in Sullivan. Mr. McWilliams preceded her in death in July of 1996.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Lyle and Judy McWilliams of Peculiar, Missouri, Hugh and Victoria McWilliams of Herndon, Virginia and Matthew and Lisa McWilliams of Washington, Missouri, five grandchildren, one sister, Goldie Darnell, one half-sister, Vi Harris, four half-brothers, Cecil, Jack, Fred and Richard Worley other relatives and friends, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. McWilliams was preceded in death by an infant daughter, April and a sister Betty Walther.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday from the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Visitation for Mrs. Thelma McWilliams will be from 5:30 until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 12 noon until time of services at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Betty J. Blum
Betty J. Blum of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the age of 67 years.
Betty was born March 13, 1933 at Bland, Missouri to John and Minnie (Fredrich) Ahrens. In 1938 she moved with her family to the Bourbon area where she then lived the rest of her life. The loved her farm and especially the animals on them. Betty was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon and was a former Sunday School teacher there.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Norma and Bob Allen of Sullivan, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by five brothers, John, George, Cleo Robert, and her twin Stanford Ahrens, and by two sisters, Edith Rhodus and Mildred Matejicek.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001 from Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon with Pastor David Zirpel officiating. Interment will be in Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening and Friday from 10 am until 12 noon at the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon.
