Jere N. Dependahl
Jere N. Dependahl of Sullivan, Missouri passed away at his home on Monday, August 20, 2001 at the age of 59 years.
Jere was born at St. Louis, Missouri to the late Charles and Betty (Newton) Dependahl. On January 17, 1999 he was married to Mary Ann Bizelli Flood. Jere was a salesman for the former Falstaff Brewing Company until its closing. He later became employed as a warehouse manager with the Special School District of St. Louis. He found pleasure in reading and fishing and was a past award winner for the Jerry Lewis telethon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the family home, one son, Charles W. Dependahl of St. Louis, County, Missouri, three step-daughters, Margie Arnaud of St. Charles, Missouri, Brenda Strothcamp of Sullivan, Missouri and Dawn Jackson of Carmeron, Texas, 10 grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents Mr. Dependahl was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Melanie Dyke.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2001 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. In accordance with Mr. Depnedahl’s wishes, cremation followed. Visitation for Mr. Jerry Dependahl was held from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. The family desires that memorials be made to Unity Hospice.
Helen G. Bouse
Helen G. Bouse of Forsyth, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at the age of 73 years.
Mrs. Bouse was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 29, 1927 to the late Earl and Wonnie (Williams) Tourville. She was raised in the Sullivan area, and on February 5, 1944 was married to Jasper L. Bouse in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Helen had been employed for thirteen years at the former Sullivan Community Hospital, and, upon her retirement from there, became a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. She was fond of crafts, embroidery work, and dancing. Mrs. Bouse was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Banning, California. She and her husband had made their home in Forsyth since 1987.
She is survived by her husband, Jasper “Bud” Bouse of Forsyth, Missouri; one son, Ronald Bouse and wife, Sheila of Springfield, Missouri; two daughters, Sue Sparks and husband, Carl of Branson, Missouri and Sandy Chadd and husband, Dan of Sullivan; one brother, Kenneth Tourville of DeSoto, Missouri; one sister, Billie Woodcock of Bolivar, Missouri; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. Along with her parents, Mrs. Bouse was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Tourville.
Memorial funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2001 from the Hassebroek Chapel in Sullivan with Pastor Richard Williams officiating. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.
Violet R. Castleberry
Violet R. Castleberry of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 31, 2001 at the age of 84 years.
Mrs. Castleberry was born on August 12, 1917 in Campbell, Missouri. As a young girl, she moved with her family to St. Louis and resided there until relocating to Sullivan in 1977. Violet was united in marriage in 1936 at St. Louis to Maurice Castleberry. In addition to being a devoted wife and homemaker, she assisted her husband with confectionery businesses for several years. Violet enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, fishing, and also held a distinct love for animals in her heart. She will be remembered and cherished as a very gentle, caring, and loving person.
She is survived by a cousin, Gerald Miller and his daughter, Marsha, of St. Louis County; three nieces, Desolee Hahn and Gwen McCullough, both of Sullivan, and Janice George of St. Louis, as well as other nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside funeral service was conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2001 at the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. If desired, contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan in memory of Violet R. Castleberry.
Leland Eikerman
Leland O. Eikermann, Sr., husband of Carol-Gay Pounds Eikermann, and son of Lillian Rohrer Eikermann and the late Oscar H. Eikermann, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the age of 62 years.
Mr. Eikermann was born on July 30, 1939 at Bourbon, Missouri and was a life-long resident of the area. He was at graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Leland honorably served his country with the U.S. Army and was a soldier with Company E, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Training Regiment, 2nd Platoon at Fort Leonard Wood. On December 21, 1959, he was married to Carol-Gay Pounds at Potosi, Missouri and to this marriage four children were born. Leland was civic minded and was involved in many community programs which included being a board member of the Bourbon Fire Department as well as being a firefighter, and a past school board member of the Bourbon School district. He operated the family farm just outside of Bourbon and was a political activist for the common farmer. Leland served as president of the Farm Alliance of Rural Missouri, president of Missouri American Agricultural Movement, and president of the National Family Farm Coalition. He was a faithful teacher at Cuba High School, instructing industrial technology and member of the National Education Association. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon.
Surviving along with his wife Carol-Gay are: two sons, Leland O. Eikermann, Jr. and wife, Cathie of Sullivan and Lance A. Eikermann of Bourbon; two daughters, Lise G. Susnic and husband Jim of Sullivan and Laura K. Furgione and husband Timothy of Juneau, Alaska; his mother, Lillian Eikermann of Bourbon; 8 grandchildren, Josh, Luke, Brandon, Caitlin, Jennifer, Drake, Wyatt, and Tripp, a special aunt, Laura Hunt of Bourbon, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services were conducted Monday, September 3, 2001 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Leland Eikermann Technical School Scholarship Fund or the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon in memory of Leland Eikermann. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
Alma K. Summers
Alma K. Summers of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the age of 99 years.
Mrs. Summers was born on March 24, 1902 at Anthonies Mill, Missouri to Orville and Sadie (Summers) Kimberlin. She was raised at Anthonies Mill, and has remained a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On April 27, 1923 Alma was joined in marriage to Headlee Summers at Union, Missouri, and to this union two sons were born. In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, she worked for several years as a forelady for the International Shoe Company. She also was employed as an inspector for the Ramsey Corporation for approximately fifteen years, and retired from there. Alma was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan, and a charter member of the Sullivan Schools PTA and the Sullivan Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, had a special love for music, and was a strong, lifelong member of the Democratic party. She will be remembered and cherished as a woman who was very independent, self-sufficient, determined, intelligent, hard-working, and extremely generous.
She is survived by two sons, Gale Summers and wife, June, of Springfield, Missouri and Gordon Summers and wife, Virginia, of Denton, Texas; one brother, Morris Kimberlin of Bourbon, Missouri; two sisters, Fern Richards and husband, Reuben, of Springfield, Missouri and Freda Brown of Sullivan; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, John, and Rush Kimberlin, and one sister, Hallie Collins.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 3, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Donald Kratz officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan in memory of Alma K. Summers.
Audrey Blankenship
Audrey Blankenship of Sullivan, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the age of 80 years.
Audrey was born March 12, 1921 to the late Harrison and Linta Hinch Isgriggs in rural Crawford County. She attended the Pleasant Ridge and Hinch Schools that were located near her home. In 1936 Audrey was married to John Richardson. On November 20, 1943 she was married to Ross Blankenship and they made their home in Sullivan. Audrey was employed for many years as a screw machinist at the former Paco Company in Washington, Missouri. In her free time Audrey enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and especially playing cards. She loved to cook and was known for her home made noodles and coleslaw. She attended church most recently at Cave Spring Baptist, along with members of her family. For several years she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #3781 of Sullivan. Audrey’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.
She is survived by two sons, Leroy Richardson and wife, Bonnie of St. Peters, Missouri, Larry Blankenship and wife, Becky of Sullivan, one daughter, Sandy Chappell of Fort Worth, Texas, one sister, Helen Mayberry of Sullivan, two half-brothers, Eugene Isgriggs and wife, Dean of Manchester, Missouri, Bill Isgriggs and wife, Shirley of Sullivan, two half-sisters, Rose Schmidt and husband, Bill of Sullivan, Ellen Virgin of Eldon, Missouri, one step-sister, Thelma Tanner of Bartow, Florida, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Along with her parents and husband, Audrey was preceded in death by four sons, James Richardson, Bobby Blankenship and wife, Christine, Gary Blankenship, Ricky Blankenship and wife, Donna, one brother, Francis Isgriggs, one half- sister, Betty Tidwell, and one step-sister, Florence Douglas and one step-grandson, Brian Hulsey.
Funeral services were conducted 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2001 from the chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Gene Waterman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family in memory of Audrey Blankenship.
Ellen Witt
Ellen G. Witt of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the age of 86 years.
Mrs. Witt was born on August 25, 1915 in Algire, Missouri to Jesse J. and Minnie (Tice) Harmon. On November 12, 1938 she was joined in marriage to Charles Witt in Union, Missouri, and to this union two children were born. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Ellen worked for several years at Midwest Footwear, and for over nineteen years as an inspector for the Pacco Corporation. For an additional eight years, she served as a school teacher for a number of rural schools in Washington County. Ellen was a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area, and a longtime member of the Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan. She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing cards, gardening, and growing flowers. She was admired and respected by those who knew her, and will be remembered and cherished as a hard-working, kind, and loving person.
She is survived by one son, Bob Witt and wife, Brenda, of Sullivan; one daughter, Jaqueline Kline and husband, Bob, of Sullivan; three grandsons, Douglas Alan Summers of Sullivan, David John Witt of Ellisville, and Brian Charles Witt of Sullivan; three great-grandchildren, Douglas Summers, Jr., Dylan Bradley Summers, and Steffanie Alanna Summers; one sister, Myrtle Marvin of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Witt was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ferd Harmon, her twin sister, Belle Schmidt, two other sisters, Dora Summers and Virginia Harmon, and one grandson, Bradley Wayne Summers.
Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. James D. Eaton officiating. Cremation followed the funeral service with burial in Midlawn Memorial Gardens. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Ellen G. Witt.
Lillie Opal Stroup
Lillie Opal Stroup of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at the age of 68 years.
Mrs. Stroup was born at Harbor Springs, Michigan on January 26, 1933 to the late Harold Wayne and Lillie Grace Chambers Holiday. In her mid-teens, she moved to the Sullivan area where she had resided until her death. On August 3, 1956 she was married to Ernest Green Stroup who preceded her in death in 1991. She was known as a great cook and seamstress. She also found pleasure in fishing and reading. Opal was a mother to all and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by two sons; Wayne Stroup and wife Cindy of Leasburg, Missouri and Gene Stroup and wife Mary of St.James, Missouri; one sister, Mary Holiday of Sullivan, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Verland Holiday and one sister, Hannah May Green.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in Buffalo Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. The family will receive friends at the cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
