Floyd Alvin King
Floyd Alvin King of Sullivan, Missouri, husband of Ina Walker King and son of the late Royal and Irene Ellis King, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the age of 76 years.
Mr. King was born at Leasburg, Missouri on November 12, 1925. On January 18, 1948 he was married to Ina Walker at St. Louis, Missouri and to this marriage two children were born. He honorably served his country during W.W.II with the U.S. Army and had attained the rank of Sergeant. After the war, Al attended barber school and became self-employed in his own barber shop. Upon his retirement, he moved to the St. Clair area and then to Sullivan 10 years ago. Al was known as a hard worker who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also found pleasure in a good joke and the lighter side of life. Also in his retirement years he was a realtor with Johanning Realtors in Sullivan. Al was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan, the Masonic Lodge of St. Clair and the American Legion of Leasburg.
He is survived by his wife Ina, of the family home; one son, Charles Alvin King of Sullivan; one daughter and son-in-law Gail and Rich McQuiston of Wentzville; two brothers, James King of Bourbon and Clarence King of Sullivan; five sisters, Ethel Boedy of Fenton, Vi Sappington of Leasburg, Marie Adams of Bourbon, Alice Ray of Fenton and Betty Schaefer of Sappington, Missouri; three grandchildren, Renee’ Gregg, Cara Civey, and David King, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Three brothers, Edward, Gene and Wilbur King preceded Al in death as did a sister, Alma Woods.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2001 from Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Audrey Riegel
Audrey A. Riegel of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2001 at the age of 79 years.
Audrey was born in Union, Missouri on June 21, 1922 to Otto and Helena (Hoerstkamp) Pohlmann. She was raised in the Union area and later graduated from Union High School. On September 27, 1941 she was joined in marriage to Edward Riegel at Washington, Missouri and to this union five children were born. In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Audrey enjoyed handiwork, but found special pleasure in all of her grandchildren. She also had a reputation for being fastidious. Audrey was a member of Saint Anthony Parish in Sullivan, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Russell Schmidt V.F.W. Post #3987.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Riegel and wife, Karen, and Tom Riegel and wife, Sondra, all of Lamar, Missouri; three daughters, Rita Powell and husband, Ronnie, of Union, Missouri, Madalyn Berga and husband, Mike, and Denise Revelle and husband, Bob, all of Sullivan; one sister, Doris VanLear of Union; nineteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, one grandson, Mark Berga, one daughter-in-law, Patty (O’Sullivan) Riegel, one brother, Clifford Pohlman, and an infant sister, Mable Pohlman.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Don Carey officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening followed by the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW service at 7:00 p.m. Masses may be made to Saint Anthony Catholic Church or memorials to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Johnie Richardson
Johnie C. Richardson of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at the age of 87 years.
Mr. Richardson was born on March 8, 1914 in Steelville, Missouri to the late James H. and Ruth (Haulbert) Richardson. As a young man, he moved to the Bourbon area where he continued to live the majority of his life. In November 1942 Johnie enlisted in the United States Navy, and honorably served his country during World War II. In 1948 he was joined in marriage to Mary E. Isgrigs. For 22 years he served as the city marshal of Bourbon as well as a deputy sheriff for Crawford County. Johnie left law enforcement, and then worked for 37 years as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He absolutely loved hunting and fishing. He also attended the First Assembly of God in Bourbon. He will be cherished and remembered as a loving and caring man who built a reputation of honesty and integrity.
He is survived by two sons, Leroy Richardson and wife, Bonnie, of St. Peters, Missouri and Ricky Richardson of Bourbon; one daughter, Sue Bunton of Bourbon; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by one son, James Richardson, three brothers, Jimmie, George, and Herman Richardson, and two sisters, Ethel Bell and Elsie Richardson.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 2001 at the First Assembly of God in Bourbon with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating. Interment was in Cherry Valley Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Johnie C. Richardson. All arrangements were under the care of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Katie Agnes Schulte
Katie Agnes Schulte of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 23, 2001 at the age of 100 years, 5 months, and 28 days.
Mrs. Schulte was born on May 26, 1901 in Washington County, Missouri to the late John W. and Betty (Hulsey) Northcutt. On June 8, 1918 she was joined in marriage to Russell Jackson, and to their union three children were born. One of those children, an infant son, preceded her in death, as did Mr. Jackson. Katie spent most of her life in the Leasburg and Sullivan area, and worked for several years at the Cuba Shoe Factory. She also was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan. On August 21, 1959 she married Cornelius Schulte. Mr. Schulte preceded her in death in May 1967.
She is survived by one son, Charles Jackson and wife, Mabel, of Bourbon, Missouri; one daughter, Nadine Davis of Cuba, Missouri; two grandchildren, Larry King and wife, Ann, and Charlotte Dunn and husband, David; five great-grandchildren, Jason King and wife, Katie, Michelle King, and Megan, Sarah, and Emily Dunn; other relatives, and friends. In addition to those previously mentioned, Mrs. Schulte was preceded in death by sixteen brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Charles Idleman officiating. Interment was in the Cave Spring Cemetery.
Jerry Dean Taylor
Jerry Dean Taylor of Leasburg, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at the age of 55 years.
Jerry was born on November 22, 1945 to Elmer Charles and Ruby Alene (Bland) Taylor. Jerry had lived the majority of his life in the Sullivan area except for four years working for the Chrysler Corporation at its Delaware plant. On November 4, 1967 he was united in marriage to Diane Schaffer at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan. In December of 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned the rank of Corporal. He saw action in Vietnam and was involved in several defensive campaigns. Upon his honorable discharge, he became employed as an assembly line worker at the Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Missouri. Jerry retired from there after 27 years of employment. Jerry was known as a “Mr. Fix-it” around the house, he doted on his children and grand-children, and was a hard worker. He was a 15 year member of the Sullivan Fire Department and was on honorary status with the District. In his free time, Jerry could be found at Elements having coffee and was a devoted member of their “fan club”. He was a member of Saint Anthony Parish of Sullivan and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Diane, of the family home, one son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Lynn Taylor of Washington, Missouri, one daughter, Cathy Taylor of Sullivan, one brother, Charles Taylor of Sullivan, one sister, Imogene Witt of Sullivan, 5 grandchildren, Jesse, Kevin and Cory Hansel, Bobby Dean Taylor and Kyle Anthony Williams, mother-in-law, Ellen Brune of Sullivan, other relatives and friends.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2001 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Don Carey officiating. Interment was in Lockhart Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Velma Sanders
Velma Blue Sanders of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2001 at the age of 84 years.
Velma was born on October 30, 1917 in Rolla, Missouri to Joe and Dovie Leona (Sisco) Vitzthum. On October 4, 1935 she was joined in marriage to Gene Blue. They were happily married for over fifty years, and had five children together. In 1958 she and her family moved to St. Louis. Velma then moved to Sullivan in 1978. Throughout her adult years, she primarily served her family as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Velma enjoyed sewing, cooking, and just being with her family. She was also a member of the Church of God in Newburg, Missouri. She will be remembered and cherished as a very loving, caring, and generous person.
She is survived by four sons, Perry Blue and wife, Judyee, of Mary Esther, Florida, Jimmie Blue of Victor, Montana, Ken Blue and wife, Nova, and Larry Blue and wife, Rita, all of Bourbon, Missouri; one daughter, Joyce Bennett of Affton, Missouri; one brother, Lee Vitzthum and wife, Dorothy, of Springfield, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Alph Vitzthum.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Wilson Davis officiating. Interment was in the Rolla City Cemetery. Visitation hours were from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2001 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Ida Christine Harnetz
Ida Christine Harnetz of Cuba, Missouri passed away on Monday, December 3, 2001 at the age of 68 years.
Mrs. Harnetz was born on October 19, 1933 in Davenport, Florida to the late Harvey Lee and Christine (Scarborough) Littles. In 1955 she moved to St. Louis, and then to Cuba in 1997. On May 14, 1983 she was united in marriage to Clarence Daniel Harnetz at the Moline Baptist Church in St. Louis. Christine worked as a quality control coordinator for White Rogers in St. Louis for over twenty years. She found pleasure in working with crafts, decorating, and gardening. Her life, however, revolved around her extreme devotion to her husband and her family. Christine also enjoyed attending the Salem Avenue Baptist Church. She will be remembered and cherished as a very beautiful, loving, and dedicated person.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Daniel Harnetz of Cuba; two children, Frank Paul Baker, Jr. of St. Louis and Dawn Michelle Baker of Maryland Heights, Missouri; three stepchildren, William Daniel Harnetz of Ballwin, Missouri, Karen Louise Gibson and husband, Eric, and Cherie Eva Harnetz, all of St. Louis; two brothers, Wilbur Littles and wife, Sandra, of Polk City, Florida and Gerald Littles of Haines City, Florida; an aunt, Lydell Thelma Braddy and an uncle, Elmond Scarborough, both of Lakeland, Florida; two grandchildren, Austin A. Davis and Hannah Nicole Lewis; other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Kevin Payne officiating. Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery, Vienna, Missouri. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2001 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Ida Christine Harnetz.
Gertrude Boyle
Gertrude L. Boyle of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at the age of 92 years.
Mrs. Boyle was born on August 27, 1909 in Desloge, Missouri to Andrew J. and Josephine (Hunt) Fowler. She was raised in Desloge and graduated from high school there. On March 20, 1933 Gertrude was united in marriage to Louis O. Boyle in St. Louis. She worked as a sales clerk for Famous-Barr in St. Louis for approximately fifteen years. Gertrude moved to the Sullivan area in the early 1970s. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, participating in church activities, and doing volunteer work at the hospital. Gertrude was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan. She will be remembered and cherished as a very energetic person who had a heart for helping others.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Oberholtzer and husband, Kenneth, of Belleville, Illinois and Betty Fisher of Florissant, Missouri; one sister, Dorothy Moranville of Farmington, Missouri; nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Pagedale, Missouri. Visitation was from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan in memory of Gertrude L. Boyle.
Loise Mason
Hazel Loise Mason of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at the age of 88 years.
Mrs. Mason was born on March 23, 1913 in Stone Hill, Missouri to the late Shelby Hampton and Belle (Ball) Chrisco. On February 9, 1930 she was united in marriage to Howard Mason in Manchester, Missouri. They moved immediately to Sullivan, and made their home there for the rest of their lives. Throughout her adult years, Loise primarily served her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, working crossword puzzles, reading, and tending to her flower garden. Loise was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan for over fifty years, and also a member of the Rebekah Lodge – Sullivan Chapter #319. She will be remembered and cherished as a devoted Christian woman who was very energetic and witty.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Carr and husband, Bill, of Sullivan and Cathy Whitworth and husband, Bob, of Troy, Missouri; three grandchildren, Montie Lee Carr, Marsha Johanning, and Thomas Whitworth; four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by fourteen brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2001 from the First Baptist Church of Sullivan with Reverend Paul Gray and Reverend William E. Norris officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Visitation hours were from 5:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2001 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sullivan or to BJC Hospice in memory of Mrs. Hazel Loise Mason.
