Arthur McGraw
Arthur “Bill” McGraw of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 7, 2002 at the age of 78 years.
Mr. McGraw was born on May 8, 1924 in Pacific, Missouri to Charlie and Grace May (Gasperson) McGraw. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. On February 18, 1945 “Bill” was united in marriage to Girlie M. Files in Maplewood, Missouri. He moved with his family to the Bourbon and Sullivan area in 1960. During his adult years he primarily worked as an auto mechanic. “Bill” enjoyed farming, cutting wood, cooking, and baking. He also found pleasure in watching wrestling matches on TV. “Bill” was a member of the Disabled American Veterans organization. He will be remembered and cherished as an independent and outspoken man who was very generous.
He is survived by one son, Butch McGraw and wife, Vicki, of Sullivan; four daughters, Sharon McGraw of Steelville, Missouri, Kathryn Matejcek and husband, Larry, of Leasburg, Missouri, Peggy O’Neal and husband, James, of Bourbon, and Mary Brake and husband, Ned, of Sullivan; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. McGraw was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Cecil, Herbert, and Tony McGraw, and one sister, Dorothy Mercer.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Jeffrey Duncan officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Reedville Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Mark Alan Redhage
Mark Alan Redhage of Leslie, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 20, 2002 at the age of 43 years.
He is survived by two sons, Cory Redhage of Stanton, Missouri and Jared Redage of Leslie, Missouri, two daughters, Tiffany and Crystal Komo both of Leslie, Missouri, his parents, Willie Joe and Phyllis Redhage both of Sullivan, Missouri, one brother, Jeremy Redhage of St. Clair, Missouri, three sisters, Terri Alph and Connie Frances Komo both of the state of Minnesota and Gina Burns of New Haven, Missouri and his wife from a previous marriage, Connie Adams.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Mark Redhage will be from 4:30 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Fraternal Order of Eagles memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Donald and Virginia Lewis
Donald and Virginia Lewis of Sullivan, Missouri passed away as a result of an automobile accident on Monday, May 6, 2002 near Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.
They are survived by their daughters, Leilani Powell and husband Gary of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Connie Hughes and husband Cal of Wildomar, California
Virginia is survived by her mother, Sarah Strauser Busch of Sullivan, one brother Chip Strauser and wife JoAnn of Sullivan, Donald is survived by two cousins, whom he loved as sisters, Doris Sanford and Loretta Carns both of Springfield, Missouri, four grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2002 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan. Visitation for Donald and Virginia Lewis will be from 6 until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan.
Lester E. Politte
Lester E. Politte of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, April 29, 2002 at the age of 68 years.
He is survived by his wife Tillie of the family home, one daughter Kathy, a step-son, Sherman Riley of Tallahassee, Florida, two step-daughters, Sharon Riley of Houston, Texas and Donna Robbs of Sullivan, three brothers, Winnie Politte of Sullivan, Jim Politte of Sullivan and his twin brother Chester Politte of Indian Hills, Missouri, two sisters, Louise Cross of Sullivan and Mildred Miller of St. Clair, Missouri, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Saint Anthony Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Lester Politte will be from 4:30 until 9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. V.F.W. memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening under the direction of Russell Schmidt Post No. 3987.
Donald D. Brown
Donald D. Brown of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the age of 71 years.
He is survived by his wife Delores nee Heady of Sullivan, one daughter, Denise Sutton and husband Arnold of Sullivan, one brother, Wayne Brown of St. Clair, Missouri, four grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Stanton Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Donald D. Brown will be from 4:30 until 9 p.m. on Monday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Those who desire may make memorials to the Sullivan area BJC Hospice or Grace United Methodist Church.
Dennis Hill
Dennis E. Hill of New Port Richey, Florida formerly of Sullivan, passed away April 3, 2002 at the age of 47 years.
Dennis was born on February 13, 1955 at McPherson, Georgia. He lived the majority of his life in the Sullivan area. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1973 and then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where he was employed by the late Bill Yoest at his Better Bite Burger Barn. Dennis later worked for Mikasa Sports as a warehouse manager and sales representative. He then worked at the Morton Plant as a Home Health Representative and recently with the Visiting Nurses Association as a Home Health Rep.
He is survived by his mother, Rose Stewart of Bourbon, Missouri, his father, Elgie Hill of Cuba, Missouri, four brothers, Steve Fuchs and wife Sandy, Michael Fuchs and wife Sandy all of Sullivan, Keith Fuchs and wife Tammy of Bourbon and Mark Fuchs and wife Colleen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one sister Elgeana Cape and husband Brad of Steelville, 14 nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Marty Cook of Sullivan, long-time friend Bob Clark, other relatives and friends. Dennis was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Cook.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor G. Scott Perry officiating. Cremation followed the services.
Leo F. Klauser
Leo F. Klauser of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at the age of 77 years.
Mr. Klauser was born May 9, 1924 at Stanton, Missouri to Leo N. and Anna P. Hittl Klauser. He had lived the majority of his live in the Sullivan area and was a graduate of Sullivan High School. Leo honorably served his country during W.W. II with the U.S. Army. He was witness to the bombings of London and saw action on the European front. Leo was one of the first employees at the Sullivan Ramsey Plant when it was located in the City Hall and was employed there for 13 years. He later became employed with the U.S. Postal service and worked over 30 years at the Sullivan Post Office. He retired from there in June of 1989. On April 29, 1950 he was married to Kathryn Strauser at Sullivan and to this union four children where born. Leo enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Sullivan Country Club. In his early days, he was pitcher for the Sullivan Town Team and later in life followed baseball with this children and grandchildren. He was also fond of bowling and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Kate nee Strauser of the family home, two sons, Michael Klauser and wife Susan of Sullivan, and Robert Klauser of Ballwin, Missouri, two daughters, Kay Jackson and husband Cecil of Ellisville, Missouri, and Julie Duncan and husband James of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, five grandchildren, Stephanie Jones and husband Matt, Mitch and Haley Klauser, Kathryn and Christine Jackson, three step-grandchildren, Trent Jackson, Brandon and Michael Duncan and three great-great-grandchildren, Darion, Kasen and Sierra Jones, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Interment with Military Honors was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorials to Missouri Baptist Cardiac Rehab in the name of Leo Klauser.
Marguerite M. Thomeczek
Marguerite Thomeczek of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2002 at the age of 84 years.
Mrs. Thomeczek was born in the Spring Bluff area near Sullivan on August 26, 1917 to William and Mary Ellen (Walz) Weiskopf and was the oldest of eight children. Times being what they were, she helped out with the many chores on the farm and enjoyed a simple life. She grew up with out the convenience of electricity, and heat came by way of a heating stove and lights from kerosene lamps, which had to be filled every day. Marguerite also helped in the family garden and raised and canned as much food as they could. She attended the Long Ridge School, which was one room and later went to Sullivan High School where she received her diploma. In 1935, after her graduation Marguerite attended college and received her teaching certificate. She became a teacher and taught for 14 terms and substituted for 20 terms. A few of the schools where she taught were the Old Beaufort School, Walbert, Long Ridge, Spring Bluff and a couple of terms in Crawford County. On June 7, 1947 she was married to Alexander “Sam” Thomeczek at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan and to this union eight children were born. They lived for a time in the St. Louis area and in 1950 moved back to the family farm they had since lived. Marguerite was known as a woman who would do anything for anyone. She was truly a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She was a member of Saint Anthony Parish of Sullivan, member and leader of the 4-H Club, Spring Bluff Homemakers Club, the Unique Club, Pink Lady and the Sullivan Hospital and member of the Franklin County Extension Council.
She is survived by three sons; Ronnie Thomeczek of Bourbon, Missouri, Kenny Thomeczek and wife Terry of Spring Bluff and Tommy Thomeczek and wife Mary Beth of Spring Bluff; four daughters, Rickie Sue Farris and husband Jim of Eureka, Missouri, Mary Wilmesher and husband Dennis of Union, Missouri, Margie Hodge and husband Harold of Rolla, Missouri and Jane Frolker and husband Curt of Owensville, Missouri; three brothers, William Weiskopf, Jr. of Sullivan, Leo Weiskopf and wife Jo Anne of Sullivan and Harold Weiskopf and wife Dorothy of Sullivan, 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law Shelby Dunn and husband Darryl of Spring Bluff, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Along with her husband and parents, a son, Gary Thomeczek, one brother, Raymond Weiskopf and three sisters, Bernice Thomeczek, Irene Schmuke and Lorene Helton preceded Marguerite in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Theodore Brunnert officiating. Interment was in Laubinger Cemetery, Leslie, Missouri. Those who desire may make Masses to Saint Anthony or to the Laubinger Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Roman J. Rothmeier
Roman J. Rothmeier of Gerald, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 9, 2002 at the age of 78 years. Mr. Rothmeier was born August 9, 1924 at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota to Michael and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Boettger) Rothmeier. He spent his early childhood years on the family farm helping out with the various chores associated with farm life. He honorably served his country during W.W. II with the U.S. Army. He saw action in the campaigns of Rhineland and Central Europe as a combat infantryman. He attained the rank of Private First Class and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Germany on August 20, 1945. On April 28, 1948 he was married to Delores Goblirsch in Wabasso, Minnesota and to this union four children were born. Delores preceded him in death on March 17, 1968. He was a quiet, strong willed man who loved his children dearly and after the death of Delores learned to cook, bake and sew to care for them. He prided himself of being self-sufficient and found it difficult to ask for or accept help. He quietly carried his feelings and seldom expressed them. On July 20, 1974 Roman was married to Clara Barbara Schmitt at Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church. They made their home in the Bourbon, Missouri area for four years and later built a home in rural Gerald, Missouri. Roman became a member of Saint Gerald Catholic Church and enjoyed attending Sunday and weekday masses.
Roman farmed until the injuries received during the war forced his retirement. He and Clara began working in their home; making patchwork quilt tops. Roman became very precise in marking and cutting the patterns. They have had quilts pictured in magazines and sent to several states and countries. For nearly 15 years they went to the local craft shows to sell their quilt tops until Clara’s illness kept then from doing the shows. However, they continued working out of their home until Roman too became ill. He found pleasure in gardening, feeding the wild deer and turkey and especially the birds. He also enjoyed planting and caring for the plant “Job’s Tears” and made beautiful rosaries from the seed, which he gave to family and friends. Roman also made rosaries and gave them to several Missions for “Our Lady’s Rosary Makers”. Along with his membership at Saint Gerald Parish, Roman was belonged to the Catholic Aid Society and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife Clara; one son Michael Rothmeier and wife Lori of Rogers, Arkansas; three daughters, Patricia Kerkhoff and husband Scott of Logan, Iowa, Jeanette Rainwater and husband Walter of Fort Collins, Colorado, Cheryl Garner and husband Tom of Sullivan, Missouri; two brothers, Don Rothmeier of Clements, Minnesota and Norbert Rothmeier of Elkton, South Dakota; 7 grandchildren, Robyn Kerkhoff and fiancée Kevin Chmiel of Austin, Texas, Aaron Kerkhoff and wife Christina of Fort Story, Virginia, Nicole Scott of Logan, Iowa, Amanda Romero and husband Phillip of Fort Collins, Colorado, Karan Rainwater of Fort Collins, Colorado, Joshua Garner and fiancé Megan, and Jeremy Garner all of Sullivan, Missouri; 3 great-grandchildren, Brady, Mitchell and Brianna Kerkhoff of Fort Story, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Delores Rothmeier of Olivia, Minnesota other relatives and friends. Along with his first wife Delores and his parents, Roman was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence, and a sister, Veronica Guetter.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2002 from St. Gerald Catholic Church in Gerald, Missouri. Interment was in Clements, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers Masses or contributions to St. Gerald Catholic Church are preferred. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Donald R. McManness
Donald R. McManness of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the age of 65 years.
Mr. McManness was born on October 18, 1936 in Clayton, Missouri to Virgil B. and Lillian M. (Schrieber) McManness. After graduating from high school, he was united in marriage to Gloria J. Kurzendoerfer on September 4, 1954 at the Overland Baptist Church. Don worked as a machinist and a sheet metal worker for the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation for over thirty years. In March 1987 he and Gloria moved to the Sullivan area, where they soon became active members of the Temple Baptist Church. Don faithfully served the congregation there as a deacon, usher, and van driver, and also participated in the community Meals-On-Wheels program. He found pleasure in woodworking, spending time with his family, and reading the Scriptures. Don will be remembered and cherished as a generous, prayerful, hardworking man who possessed a genuine love for the Lord and others.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria of the family home; one son, Michael McManness of Wright City, Missouri; three daughters, Linda McManness of Waco, Texas, Donna Stroker and husband, Jack, of Florissant, Missouri, and Susan Volmert and husband, Marty, of Red Bud, Illinois; one brother, Gene McManness and wife, Vickie, of St. Louis; one sister, Norma Avery of Warrenton, Missouri; five grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. McManness was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Heady.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002 at the Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002 at Temple Baptist Church. If desired, contributions may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Donald R. McManness.
