Jerry McCulloch
Gerald F. “Jerry” McCulloch of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the age of 44 years.
Jerry was born on February 2, 1958 in Richmond Heights, Missouri to Bernice Ann (King) McCulloch and the late Billie Ray McCulloch. After graduating from high school, he honorably served his country for four years in the United States Air Force as a Missile Electronic Equipment Specialist. He was also currently enlisted with the reserves of the Missouri Air National Guard. Throughout his adult life, Jerry worked for over twenty years as an electronics specialist. He was a member of the Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church, and for over ten years was very active in numerous fundraising endeavors for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Jerry enjoyed bowling, fishing, barbecues with family and friends, and became excited each spring as he witnessed new life coming forth. It was truly his most favorite season of the year. He also found pleasure in riding motorcycles, dart competitions, scuba diving, and requiring the whole family to watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” together before any Christmas presents could be opened. Jerry will be remembered and cherished as a very caring, giving, and fun-loving man.
He is survived by his mother, Bernice McCulloch of Sullivan; five brothers, Mike McCulloch and wife, Nancy, John McCulloch and wife, Kathy, Scott McCulloch and wife, Donna, Jim McCulloch and wife, Lisa, and Paul McCulloch and wife, Theresa, all of Sullivan; five nieces, Leslie, Erin, Lindsey, Amanda, and Stephanie McCulloch; three nephews, David, Derek, and Brandon McCulloch; one great niece, Alexis McCulloch; other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Reverend Father Theodore Brunnert officiating. Interment with military honors was in Crow Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Jerry McCulloch.
Gerald W. Thomas
Gerald W. Thomas of Sullivan, Missouri, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the age of 58 years.
Mr. Thomas was born on March 31, 1944 in St. Charles to Viola E. (Benus) Thomas and the late Emil V. Thomas. He was raised in St. Charles, and honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967.
Throughout his adult life, Jerry worked primarily as an over-the-road truck driver. In January 1994 he was married to Cheryl (Chanie) A. Pratt in St. Charles. After moving to the Sullivan area, he and Chanie became actively involved in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Jerry especially enjoyed being on the Meramec River, whether he was boating, camping, floating, or fishing. He will be remembered and cherished as a very outgoing man who loved life and loved people.
He is survived by his wife, Chanie, of the family home; two sons, Jamey Thomas and Gregory Thomas, both of O’Fallon, Missouri; two daughters, Tammy Bakker and husband, Sid, of O’Fallon and Jessica Thomas of St. Charles, Missouri; two stepsons, Tim Hossfeld of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Brian Hossfeld of Chesterfield, Missouri; his mother, Viola Thomas of St. Charles; one sister, Mary Brown of St. Charles; two grandchildren, Sean and Amelia Bakker; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1898 South Service Road West, Bourbon, MO (573) 468-3700. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Thomas was cremated. If desired, contributions may be made to the Jerry Thomas Memorial Fund or to the Watchtower Society, and mailed in care of the Eaton Funeral Home, P.O. Box 625, Sullivan, MO 63080.
David R. Armistead, Jr.
David R. Armistead, Jr. of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2002 at the age of 60 years.
Mr. Armistead was born on December 27, 1941 in St. Clair, Missouri to David R. Armistead, Sr. and Mildred E. (Headrick) Armistead. After spending his teen years and graduating from high school in Belleville, Illinois, he started his military career with the United States Navy. On August 27, 1960 he was married to Patricia A. Smith in Schenectady, New York. In addition to honorably serving his country through the Navy, David participated in the military police division of the Army National Guard, giving him a total of over twenty-seven years of military service. He also worked for over fifteen years as a Corrections Officer II for the Potosi State Correctional Center, and was a member of the Emergency Response Team. David enjoyed spending time with his family and remodeling his home. He had a special love for animals, and also found pleasure in paintball competitions with his fellow E Team members. He will be remembered and cherished as a very kind and loving man who was known for his generosity and internal strength.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the family home; one son, David R. Armistead and wife, Karen, of Sullivan; one daughter, Kimberly Kranick, and husband, Richard, of Schenectady, New York; one brother, Jeffery Armistead of Foley, Missouri; one sister, Shirley Carlyon and husband, Joseph, of Sullivan; one grandchild, Lynne Armistead of Sullivan; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Armistead was preceded in death by one son, James R. Armistead.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2002 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sullivan with Pastor Jeffrey Duncan officiating. Interment with military honors was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sullivan in memory of David R. Armistead, Jr.
Louise K. Dillon
Louise K. Dillon of Bourbon, Missouri, died July 31, 2002. She was 93 years old.
She was born Mary Louisa Koeberlein on March 10, 1909, on a farm near Altamont, Illinois. She was the fourth child and second daughter of Frank (Francis) Koeberlein and Agnes Reiss Koeberlein. They had nine children, six of whom preceded her in death. Rosaleen Koeberlein Norton and Catherine Koeberlein, both now of Tolono, Illinois, are Louise’s only surviving siblings.
After Frank died, the family moved into Altamont; and Louise, as well as most of the other children, attended and graduated from Altamont schools. Louise graduated from Altamont High School in 1928.
Louise married Maurice Dillon, St. Louis, in 1931. They had six children: Donald, Agnes, Shirley, Carolyn, Michael, and David. The family bought a small farm near Bourbon, and they moved from St. Louis, to the Bourbon area in 1946.They moved into Bourbon in 1952. Maurice died in 1969. In 1982, Louise married Carl Mueller, Cuba, Missouri; he died in 1996. She then changed her name to Louise Koeberlein Dillon.
She continued to live in Bourbon until her death. Louise was a long-time member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Bourbon.
Louise is survived by children, Donald Dillon (and wife Shirley), Bourbon; Agnes Dillon, Champaign, Illinois; Shirley Dillon (and husband James) Ertl, Bourbon; Micheal (and wife Barbara), Bourbon; David Dillon (and wife Gail), Rome, Georgia. Carolyn Dillon Lockowitz died in 1969. Louise also is survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Burial was in St. Clare Cemetery, Altamont, Illinois.
Elvin L. Bunton
Elvin L. Bunton of Leasburg, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the age of 56 years.
Mr. Bunton was born on July 19, 1946 at Oak Hill, Missouri to Lee Oscar and Emma Jane (Haynes) Bunton. After being raised in the Cuba, Missouri area, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Elvin moved to the state of Massachusetts, and in 1968 was married there to Doris M. Thibaudeau. Doris preceded him in death in 1995. He then was married to Patricia A. George on July 31, 1997 at Union, Missouri. Throughout his adult life, Elvin worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for PJ Keating, and retired from that company after twenty-five years of service. He enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and children, fishing, and attending church. Elvin was a member of the Full Gospel Pentecostal Assembly of Leasburg. He will be remembered and cherished as a very kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, as well as being a friendly, honest, and trustworthy man.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the family home; three sons, Preston Bunton and wife, Bonnie, of Townsend, Massachusetts, Glenn Bunton and wife, Jaimie, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and RJ Nye-Bunton of Leasburg; three daughters, Dawn Bunton and Dena Ammendolia and husband, Anthony, all of West Townsend, Massachusetts, and Keshia Bunton-Nye of Leasburg; four stepdaughters, Bobbie Hickey and husband, Joseph, Shannon Nye, and Jamie Nye and fiance, Rodney Busch, all of Bourbon, Missouri, and Tracie Gibson and husband, Jerry, of Sullivan, Missouri; four brothers, James Bunton and wife, Dorothy, and Ronald Bunton, all of Bourbon, Oscar Bunton and wife, Sherry, of Owensville, Missouri, and Earl Bunton and wife, Oleva, of Union, Missouri; four sisters, Mary Jane Miller and husband, Sam, of Washington, Missouri, Catherine Denham and husband, Rick, of the state of Oklahoma, Pearl Bunton of Bourbon, and Sharon Bunton of Rolla, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Bunton was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmett, Vernon, and Orville Bunton, and one sister, Shirley Ann Spurgeon.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Haskell Bridgeman officiating. Interment with military honors was in the McMillian Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Wesley Millard Briscoe
Wesley Millard Briscoe of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2002 at the age of 94 years.
Mr. Briscoe was born on December 19, 1907 at Japan, Missouri to Maurice David and Mary E. (Shirley) Briscoe. Wesley left the family farm in 1925 to join the work force. Before retiring in 1974, he spent 48½ years with Standard Artificial Limb in St. Louis. He was a partner in the ownership of that company before his retirement. Wesley was known for his careful attention to the needs of each customer, and his care and concern for them and their families.
On September 14, 1935 Wesley met Ina Mae Lawrence, and married her on September 28, 1935. One child was born to this union on March 12, 1947. Their only son, Norman David Briscoe, died on September 2, 1969. Ina Mae also preceded Wesley in death on September 2, 1999 – thirty years to the day after their son’s death. Their marriage lasted just twenty-six days short of sixty-four years.
Throughout his career at Standard Artificial limb in St. Louis, Wesley and Ina Mae spent their weekends on the Evergreen Loop where he was a cattleman and general farmer. After retiring in 1974, they moved to Sullivan where they both enjoyed retirement living. Both were gardeners, and their produce included tomatoes, strawberries, and sweet potatoes. Wesley remained active in gardening, and was able to live in his home until his death. He was a loyal friend, neighbor, and relative, and kept in touch with many people who were a part of his long life.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Micki Briscoe of Kansas City, Kansas; a special niece, Linda Clonts of Sullivan, many other nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, wife, and son, Mr. Briscoe was preceded in death by three brothers, Shirley, Robert, and John, and three sisters, Mary Lou, Sarah, and Agnes.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Elmer Loucks officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 until 9 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Evergreen Baptist Church Building Fund.
Imogene G. Mastin
Imogene G. Mastin of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 26, 2002 at the age of 84 years, 3 months and twenty days.
Mrs. Mastin was born on April 6, 1918 at Traer, Iowa to Dewart and Stella Hulsey Preston. On June 1, 1940 she was married to Milford Mastin at Weatherford, Texas and to this union two children were born. Imogene worked in the family store, formerly known as the old East End Store in Sullivan. She was active at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Sullivan, enjoyed playing Bingo and Pinochle and was a member of the Sullivan Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Alan P. Mastin of Sullivan, one daughter, Myrna Mastin of O’Fallon, Missouri, 3 grandchildren, Lisa Falloon and husband Eric, Alana Ryan and husband Nick, Tara Hakenewerth and husband Jeff, six great-grandchildren, Ross Halbert, Jeremy Falloon, Mahala Mastin, Garrett Ryan, Emmie Ryan and Nathan Hakenewerth, other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mrs. Mastin was held from 7 – 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are desired to the Sullivan Senior Citizens Center.
Margaret M. Andersen
Margaret M. Andersen nee Tiemann of Sullivan, wife of the late Oliver Andersen, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2002 at the age of 90 years.
Mrs. Andersen was born on August 12, 1911 at St. Louis, Missouri to George and Bertha (Hoover) Tiemann. On September 7, 1939 she was married to Oliver Andersen and to this union a daughter was born. Mrs. Andersen made her home in the St. Louis area for a time until relocating in the Sullivan area in the mid 60’s. She enjoyed music and singing, knitting and animals. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was especially fond of children. Mrs. Andersen was a resident of Beverly Healthcare since 1996 where she was lovingly and tenderly cared for.
She is survived by one daughter Ruth Ann Johnson and husband Jim of Pacific, Missouri two grandsons, Jerry and David nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Mrs. Andersen was preceded in death by five sisters, Bertha, Lillian, Clara, Ruth and Alice.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery.
