Reverend Gene Waterman

Reverend Eugene D. Waterman of Sullivan, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002 at the age of 66 years, 2 weeks and four days.

Gene was born on August 11, 1936 to the late Rev. Virgil Waterman and Hazel Margaret (Young) Waterman in Eldridge, Missouri. On November 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Gann of Lebanon, Missouri and to this union 3 children were born. As a young man Gene worked at Bennett Springs; breaking horses and as a cook at Stampers Frozen Foods. At an early age he gave his life to the Lord. At the age of 23, being filled with the Holy Spirit he felt the call on his life to enter the ministry and never looked back. In his early days of ministry he preached jail services, rallies on street corners and team revivals with his dad. After evangelizing full time for several years and pastorates in southern Missouri, Gene accepted the pastorate at First Assembly of God in Sullivan in 1967. Thirteen years later he began a new work with Trinity Full Gospel Tabernacle in Sullivan, which he pastored until his passing.

Gene loved the outdoors; taking care of his cattle, picking berries, riding horses and fishing. He dearly loved his grandchildren, his large family and especially his church family. He loved the people of the Sullivan area, treasuring time with his coffee buddies, local farmers and truck drivers, who looked him up when passing through town. Our dear husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, pastor and friend has went on to his eternal reward. A faithful soldier has gone home.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Betty) Waterman of Sullivan, two sons, Donald Waterman and wife, Judi of Bourbon, Dennis Waterman and wife, Carole of Sullivan, one daughter, Deborah Dazey and husband, Andy of Sullivan, his mother, Hazel Margaret Waterman of Eldridge, Missouri, thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer Allen and husband, Terrence, Brandi Buhl, Rachelle Woods and husband, Jason, Natasha Odle and husband, Randall, Nathaniel and Caleb Waterman, Adam, Ramona and Aaron Pendergrass, Stephen, Joseph, Sarah and Jesse Dazey, four great-grandchildren, four brothers, David Waterman and wife, Evelyn of Sleeper, Missouri, Joel Waterman and wife, Ellen of Denver, Colorado, Rev. Charles Waterman and wife, Threasa of Eldridge, Ronald Waterman and wife, Linness of Lebanon, two sisters, Ada Canon and husband, Rev. Clifford Canon of Macks Creek, Missouri, Gloria Schultz and husband, Terry of St. Charles, one brother-in-law, James Gann and wife, Louise of Belton, Missouri, nieces, nephews, extended family and precious friends. Along with his father, Rev. Waterman was preceded in death by his parents -in -law, Elwood and Helen Gann, one sister, Margaret Ann Waterman, and one brother-in-law, David Gann.

Funeral services were conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2002 from Holman – Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon, Missouri with Rev. Moses Tipton officiating. Interment was in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation for Rev. Gene Waterman was from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Holman –Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon.

Virginia E. Ransom

Virginia Ransom of Ferguson, Missouri passed away at her home on August 27, 2002 at the age of 76 years.

Mrs. Ransom was born on August 10, 1926 at Leasburg, Missouri to Floyd Edward and Anna (Bryan) West. In 1944, she moved to St. Louis and worked for a time at the Mavraco Candy Company. On April 14, 1945 she was married to Richard E. Ransom at Steelville, Missouri and to this marriage four sons were born of which twin sons, Richard Gene and Jerry Lee preceded her in death at birth. Virginia later was employed as a teller at the United Missouri Bank of Ferguson and retired from there in 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferguson and found many hours of pleasure serving the Lord. She was known as a person who never met a stranger, who was incredibly nice and had a big heart. Her sweet disposition endeared her to many people. She also found pleasure in family trips and fishing.

She is survived by two sons: Don Ransom and wife Janice of Phoenix, Oregon and Bill Ransom and wife Paula of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Walter West; two sisters, Evelyn Adams and Nadine Waisner all of Bourbon, Missouri; four grandchildren other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2002 from Crossroads Baptist Church, Leasburg, Missouri with interment in Crossroads Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Virginia Ransom will be from 4:30 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hutchen's Funeral Home, Ferguson, Missouri and from 5 until 9 p.m. on Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, also from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Church.

Anna C. Blankenship

Anna C. Blankenship of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Blankenship was born October 11, 1920 at Japan, Missouri to the late William and Elizabeth (Schelich) Schmitt. She was the fourth of eleven children and attended Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic School. On February 15, 1941 she married Murrell Alfonso Blankenship at Holy Martyrs and to this marriage ten children were born. Anna was a life-long resident of the Japan area and for a time was employed by International Shoe Company and O’Sullivan Industries. She always had much love to give and was mother and grandmother to so many. Anna always had something to give to those in need, even when she had so little. She worked hard to support her family and was generous with everything she had. When the children were young she sold greeting cards and ran a bread route to raise extra money. Anna loved gardening and canned nearly everything the family ate. She also raised most of the meat and helped with the butchering. Anna taught through example, sharing when there was little to give. Her warmth and love was not confined to the Japan area as she often would extend her love around the world, supporting starving children in Third World countries. Anna was a strong matriarch who supported her family with a firm but loving hand. She provided the foundation that her diverse, generous and loving family is built upon. Anna will be remembered as a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Anna was a very special person to many people who had a great capacity for compassion and love. Though she had a large number of children and grandchildren, she had the tremendous ability to make each and every one feel special to her, as she was not only generous with material wealth, but also with her love.

She is survived by six sons, Gene Blankenship and wife Linda of Sullivan, Norman Blankenship of Union, Missouri, Harold Blankenship and wife Polly of Owensville, Missouri, Russell Blankenship and wife Virginia of Rosebud, Missouri, Curtis Blankenship and wife Sherri of Sullivan, and Roland Blankenship of Rosebud, Missouri; four daughters, Judy Wright of Owensville, Phyllis LaPlant and husband Ron of Farmington, Missouri, Rita Miller of St. Louis and Connie Jost and husband David of Sullivan; three brothers, Alvie Schmitt and wife Nadine of Sullivan, Raymond Schmitt and wife Rosemary of Sullivan and Clarence Schmitt and wife Mary Lou of Marceline; three sisters, Clara Rothmeyer of Gerald, Missouri, Virginia Cibulka and husband Jack of Sullivan and Irene Walton of St. Louis; 31 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, other relatives including sisters-in-law Eva Blankenship of Sullivan, Dolores Politte and husband Jim of Sullivan, Lilly Blankenship of Belton, Missouri Carol Schmitt of Lamar, Missouri and Evelyn Schmitt of Sullivan, and a host friends. Anna was preceded in death by her husband Murrell and grandson, Dion Wright, by one sister Elsie Schmitt, three brothers, Ralph Schmitt, Virgil Schmitt and Earl Schmitt (in infancy) and brothers-in-law, Vernon and Bernard Blankenship.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 from Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church with the Rev. Fataher Donald Carey officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Anna Blankenship was held from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. A parish prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Janet C. Parks

Janet C. Parks of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the age of 53 years.

Janet was born at Sullivan, Missouri on January 31, 1949 to Clarence and Clara (Brockman) Immekus. On October 8, 1966 she was married to Randall L. Parks at Sullivan and to this marriage two sons were born. She was a life-long resident of the Sullivan area except for four years living in California when her husband was stationed there with the military. She was a beautician for a time and a licensed E.M.T. As a young girl Janet was baptized and had attended First Baptist Church in Sullivan.

She is survived by her husband, Randy of the family home; two sons, Rodney Parks of Hall, Georgia and Chris Parks and wife Michelle of Sullivan; one brother, David Studdard of Pacific, Missouri; two grandchildren, Taylore and Kaylee Parks; other relatives and friends.

Memorial funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, August 26, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Jeff Bent officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 4:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John E. Tourville

John E. Tourville of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the age of 59 years.

Mr. Tourville was born on January 1, 1943 in Washington, Missouri to Russell and Ethel (Hopkins) Tourville, and from the age of thirteen remained a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On March 27, 1963 he was joined in marriage to Gertrude M. Orton at the New Friendship Baptist Church in Gerald, Missouri, and to their union three children were born. John was employed as an ironworker, and retired after thirty years of service. During the last four years, he drove a truck for St. Louis Paving. John was a member of the Church of Christ, the Sullivan Masonic Lodge #69 A.F. & A.M., and Ironworkers Local 396. He found pleasure in classic cars, and time spent with his family. John will be cherished and remembered as a very loving and caring man, who was also known for his friendliness and humility.

He is survived by his wife, Gertie of the family home; two sons, Gordon Tourville and wife, Gina, and Bryan Tourville and wife, Alison, all of Sullivan; one daughter, Tina LaRose and husband, Tom, of Villa Ridge, Missouri; five grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tourville was preceded in death by one brother in infancy and one sister, Ruth Maupin.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. John Orton officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Wayne A. Stevens

Wayne A. Stevens of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at the age of 89 years.

Mr. Stevens was born on May 1, 1913 at Delhi, Missouri to Roy K. and Hazel A. (Shaw) Stevens, and remained a lifelong resident of the Bourbon and Sullivan area. On March 24, 1940 he was joined in marriage to Marie C. Merkel at St. Clair, Missouri, and to their union one son was born. Throughout his adult life, Wayne worked as a business agent for the Teamsters Union, but also farmed and raised cattle. He was a member of the United States Pilots Association, the Missouri Pilots Association, the Teamsters Union, and a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Wayne found great pleasure in flying, raising cattle, and playing music. He will be remembered and cherished as a very loving, forgiving, and outgoing man.

He is survived by one son, Don Stevens and special friend, Donna Aslanis of Bourbon; four brothers, Edward Stevens and wife, Carmen, of Pacific, Missouri, Glen Stevens and friend, Myrtle Dunnegan, of Sullivan, Missouri, Robert Stevens and wife, Anna, of Ft. Meyers, Florida, and Bill Stevens and wife, Judy, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters, Lucille Spurgeon of Shipman, Illinois, Loree Ware and husband, Roy, of Bourbon, and Betty Wilcox and husband, George, of Sullivan; two step-grandchildren, Erick Olsen and wife, Kim, of Norman, Oklahoma and Kristin and husband, Raymond, of Moore, Oklahoma; one special niece, Christie Ware, many other nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by one brother, John Stevens.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 from the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon with Dr. Daniel Kriefall officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon. If desired, contributions may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Church in memory of Wayne A. Stevens.

Rosella M. Ware

Rosella Marie Ware of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at the age of 80 years.

Mrs. Ware was born on January 8, 1922 in Cuba, Missouri to Ben and Georgia (Fleming) Chapman, and has remained a lifelong resident of the Bourbon and Cuba area. On June 27, 1939 she was joined in marriage to Estel R. “Bud” Ware at Steelville, Missouri, and to their union six children were born. In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Marie worked diligently at the Circle Inn Malt Shop in Bourbon for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed crocheting, working with flowers, and was well known for her delicious, baked pies. Marie was a follower of the Baptist faith, and will be cherished and remembered as a very strong yet sweet person.

She is survived by three sons, Leonard Ware and wife, Tammy, Robert Ware, and Lawrence Ware, all of Bourbon; three daughters, Berniece Quinton and husband, Dale, of West Fork, Arkansas, Elaine Steuernagel of Bourbon, and Kat Rigas of Sarasota, Florida; one sister, Dorothy McWilliams of Bloomfield, New Mexico; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. Mrs. Ware was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 from the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating. Interment was in Delhi Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2002 at the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon. If desired, contributions may be made to BJC Hospice in memory of Rosella Marie Ware.

Thelma Fae Winn

Thelma Fae Winn of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 16, 2002 at the age of 94 years.

Mrs. Winn was born on September 23, 1907 at Brookland, Arkansas to Samuel and Maude (Graham) Ramsey. She was raised in various parts of the country, mainly in Nebraska. In 1930 she moved to Springfield, Missouri where she taught high school math. In 1940 she moved to the St. Louis area where she also taught school, and later became employed with the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation in the Engineering Department. She then finished her career teaching in Sullivan.

She is survived by one son, Robert Davis and wife, Ellen, of Sullivan; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters.

Private funeral services were conducted under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Richard Thorpe

Richard L. Thorpe of Sullivan passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the age of 71 years.

Richard was born March 1, 1931 to the late Louis W. and Eula E. (Schutte) Thorpe at St. Louis, Missouri. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, actually before he was old enough to join. On January 3, 1949 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until March 14, 1962 reaching the rank of staff sergeant. After being honorably discharged from the military, Mr. Thorpe made his home in the state of California. He was employed for many years in private security for Rossmoor Retirement Community. After retirement he made his home in Sullivan. Mr. Thorpe enjoyed spending time with his family and always tried to put them first.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Thorpe of Sullivan, one son, George Thorpe of Grandview, Missouri, four daughters, Susan Grosse and husband, Randy of Concord, California, Laura Phillips and husband, Gene of Gilroy, California, Nancy Perry and husband, Richard of Sullivan, and Helen Maese and husband, Miguel of Antioch, California, one brother, Robert Thorpe of the state of Texas, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home.
