Burkhardt, Janet W.
Janet W. Burkhardt of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the age of 90 years.
Mrs. Burkhardt was born March 4, 1918 at Jamesport, Missouri to Rolla F. and Minnie Wood. She was a 1938 graduate of Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg, Missouri and a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma teacher’s sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. On December 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to Billy L. Burkhardt in her father’s home. For a time Janet taught elementary school throughout the area. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was the former Choir director and played the piano. She was also active in the United Methodist Women’s Association. She loved music and gardening, reading and sewing in her past-time.
She is survived by her husband Billy of the family home, one son Frank Burkhardt and wife Tina of Sullivan, one daughter, Peggy Burkhardt of St. Louis, 2 grandchildren, William Burkhardt with the U.S. Army in Iraq, and Heidi Burkhardt of Sullivan; and sister-in-law, Joy Wood of Kansas City, Kansas; step-sister, Ruth Ann Knight of Rock Hill, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Sharon Fitzgibbon of Jacksonville, Florida, Ricky Burkhardt of Richmond, Virginia, Connie Frank of Jacksonville, Florida, Donna Burkhardt of Nashville, Tennessee, Sue Ann Wood of Dallas, Texas, Todd Wood of Kansas City, Kansas and Linda Joy Wood of Maryland; other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her step-mother, Marian Knight and a brother Don Wood.
Funeral services were conducted 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008 from the Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. Steve Williams officiating. Cremation followed the services. Visitation was held from 4:30 until time of service Saturday evening at the Grace United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Alzheimer’s Research in the name of Janet Burkhardt. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Carey, Anna Lee
Anna Lee Carey of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at the age of 88 years.
Anna was born on September 28, 1919 in Sharon, Tennessee to Bruce and Emma (Cook) Holland. As a young woman, she met and married Louis Hankins in 1935 in Dresden, Tennessee. They moved to St. Louis, Missouri after their first daughter, Margaret Ann was born in 1936. Four years later, another daughter, Bonnie Sue was born. After Louis passed away suddenly in 1942, she met and married Lex E. Kiger in 1947. After 7 years of marriage, Anna gave birth to a third daughter, Sandra Kay. Lex passed away in 1963 after a long illness. In 1964, she married William Schrader. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Sullivan, MO. William preceded her in death in 1977. Again, Anna was blessed in 1978 when she met and married Paul J. Carey. He passed away in 1993.
Anna was a homemaker most of her adult life. She enjoyed spending time outdoors doing yard work and gardening. She spent her free time doing jigsaw puzzles, cross word puzzles, reading, and embroidery. She had a shy, gentle nature and a smile for everyone she met.
She is survived by three daughters; Margaret Ann Price and husband Luther of Sullivan, Bonnie Sue Roper and husband Bo of Bloomfield, MO and Sandra Kay Wehner and husband Thomas of Sullivan; three step-daughters, Betty Byrd, Linda Weiskopf, Doris Younger and one step-son, Gary Carey; 9 grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents Bruce and Emma, three brothers; Bob, Loyce, Lloyd Holland, and two sisters Eddie Pate and Mattie Reynolds, Anna was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffery Price and three step-sons, Bill Kiger, Gale Kiger, and Jim Carey.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Sister Martha Duvall officiating. Interment followed in the Oddfellows Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Meramec Nursing Center Activities Department, 940 Mattox Drive, Sullivan, MO 63080 may be made in the name of Anna L. Carey.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Carey, Gary Lee
Gary Carey of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Monday, September 29, 2008 at the age of 54 years.
He is survived by his wife Sandra nee Davis of the family home; three daughters, Tricia Blankenship and husband Mike, Holly Blanton and husband John and Jannel Carey all of Sullivan; two sisters, Betty Byrd and husband Harold of Leasburg, Missouri and Linda Weiskopf and husband David of Sullivan, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; Addie, Zachary, Emmie, Ashley, Cobie and Kloey; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with interment in Cave Spring Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening October 1, 2008 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building fund in the name of Gary Carey. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Carlyon, Joseph Edward
Joseph Edward Carlyon, Sr. of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the age of 84 years.
Joe was born February 15, 1923 at St. Louis, Missouri to John and Lucy (Erlacker) Carlyon. He was raised in the Leadwood area and later graduated from Flat River High School. Upon graduation, Joe enlisted into the U. S. Navy and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He honorably served his country during WW II and the Korean War and retired from the military after 21 years of service in the armed forces. Joe was later employed at Pea Ridge Iron Ore Company near Sullivan and in 1970 became employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Sullivan as a mail carrier and retired from there in 1982.
Joe enjoyed gardening and cutting grass and especially loved his family. He was a member of VFW Russell Schmidt Post # 3987 of Sullivan and Sullivan Lodge #69 AF&AM.;
Surviving along with his wife Shirley is a son and daughter-in-law; Joseph and Tracey Carlyon of Sullivan; a grandson, Jonathan Carlyon; a brother, Clark Carlyon and wife Ginny of Normal, Illinois; other relatives and friends. Joe was also preceded in death his parents and by a brother Howard Carlyon and his wife Sue.
Memorial funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2008 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with full military honors.
Clarke, Alice L.
Alice L. Clarke of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
She is survived by a son, Terry Clarke of Arlington, Texas; four daughters, Patsy Simmerly of Springfield, Missouri, Roberta DeOrnellis and husband Tom of Centralia, Missouri, Marjorie Sharkey and husband Tim of Bourbon, Missouri and Vada Valley and husband Marvin of Bakersfield, California; two brothers, David Crockett of Kewanee, Illinois and Kenny Crockett of the state of West Virginia; one sister, Vivian Downey of Paducah, Kentucky; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Memorial funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2008 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with inurnment in Bourbon Cemetery. The family received friends from 9:30 until time of services at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Collins, Anna M.
Anna M. Collins of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the age of 73 years.
Mrs. Collins was born July 20, 1934 at St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph and Priscilla (Wurglitz) Gentile. She was loved by all and was a person who never knew a stranger. She was a wonderful mother and loved her grandchildren dearly. On May 21, 1980 Anna was married to Harold Collins. Mrs. Collins was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed golf in her free time and had worked as a waitress at the Hen House in Bourbon.
She is survived by her husband Harold of the family home; three sons, David Collins of St. Louis, Gary Boulicault of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Danny Boulicault of St. Louis; two daughters, Sherrie Gerhardt of St. James, Missouri and Cindy Boulicault of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Phyllis Steavens of St. James, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Anna was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Coppersmith.
A memorial funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008 from Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon with Pastor James Rhiver officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Collins, Homer P.
Homer P. Collins of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the age of 88 years.
He is survived by his long time companion, Margaret Carey of Sullivan; a brother, Lawrence Collins and wife Olive of Sullivan; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Homer Collins were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan with burial following in the Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity of the donor in the name of Homer P. Collins.
All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Courtney, Floyd William
Floyd William Courtney of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the age of 47 years.
Floyd was born on May 13, 1960 in Chandler, Oklahoma to Byrdeen B. and Rosemary (nee Tipton) Courtney, one of three children. He enjoyed Harleys, artwork of metal and wood, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his son, Jared, and his nieces and nephews. At the time of his death, Floyd was employed by Aerofil Technologies in Sullivan.
Floyd is survived by his son, Jared Courtney of Sullivan; his mother, Rosemary Tipton-Darlin of Chandler, Oklahoma; a sister, Brenda Sue Bolm and husband John of Washington State; a niece, Christina Ann Taylor; a great-niece Trinity; special nieces and nephews, Francie, Zach, Johanna, Madison, and Dylan; special friends Carol and Alan Hicks and Jim Reed; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter, and a brother, Howard Bruce Courtney.
Memorial Funeral Services for Floyd Courtney were held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home with Mike Delashmit officiating.
Crites, Deloris LaVern
Deloris LaVern Crites of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 in at the age of 83 years.
LaVern was born on June 11, 1924 in St. Louis, MO to Leonard and Blanche (Enloe) Vogel, one of four daughters. She was married, widowed and married Roy F. Crites on September 30, 2001. She was a member of Eastern Star and Temple Baptist Church. She and Roy were regular members of the B.A.L.L. Club, Sunday School at TBC, and attended the Sullivan Sr. Center, where LaVern loved to dance. Her favorite pass time was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Roy F. Crites of the family home; two sons, Ronald Campbell and wife Debbe, and Kenneth Campbell and wife Kathy of Sullivan; three step-children, Rodney Crites and wife Janette of Pleasant Valley, MO, Timothy Crites of Moberly, MO, and Lila Langworthy of Eldon, MO; one sister, Aleah Spindler of Sullivan; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 4 nieces; 1 nephew; other relatives and friends. LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; two sisters, Shirley Vogel and Oneda Pierre; and previous husbands, Ellis Campbell and Orville Smith.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Inurnment will be at Brush Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested expressions of sympathy to be given to the American Lung Assn. in the name of LaVern Crites.
