Kate Spicer
Kate R. Spicer of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at the age of 88 years.
Mrs. Spicer was born on October 4, 1911 near Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Robert L. and Adelia (Grote) Baker. She lived in that area as a young girl until reaching the age of 16 when she was married to Myron Spicer. After her marriage, she and Myron made their home in Missouri, and settled later in the St. Louis area. During W.W.II she was employed in the small arms and ammunition plant at the Goodfellow Avenue location. She also worked for a time at a Sears Department Store. In 1970, after the retirement of her husband, Kate and Myron made their home in the Bourbon area. In her spare time Kate found pleasure in reading and listening to music.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ramey of Centralia, Illinois; three sisters, Pauline Farris of Cuba, Missouri, Pearl Crowder of Bourbon, and Bobbie Mercer of Cuba; four half-sisters, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Kate was preceded in death by a son, Loyd Spicer, and two brothers, Eugene and Robert Baker.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2000 from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor James Ramey officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery.
Armistead, Agnes A.
Agnes A. Armistead of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Mrs. Armistead was born on March 5, 1912 at Sullivan, Missouri to Elmer and Irene (Toelle) Whitmire. On May 9, 1936 she was united in marriage to Charlie R. Armistead at Collinsville Methodist Church and to this union two sons were born. The family made their home in various parts of the country because of her husband’s work, but Agnes’ heart was always in Sullivan. Agnes found pleasure in flower gardening and quilting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon as well as the Sullivan Rebekah Lodge #319 where she was a Past Noble Grand and the Order of the Eastern Star, Rob Morris Chapter of Belleville, Illinois.
She is survived by two sons, Darrell Armistead and wife Donna of Bismarck, Missouri and Jim Armistead and wife Mary of Washington, Missouri; two grandchildren, Dennis Armistead and Tammy Harness; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Along with her husband and parents, Agnes was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Williams and Winifred Hopper and by three brothers, one in infancy, and Nathan and Wayne Whitmire.
Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 from the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, 301 Sappington Bridge Road in Sullivan with Pastor Leo Shumaker officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon.
Berniece Brewer
Laquilla Venice Brewer of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000 at the age of 64 years.
Bernice, as her family and friends knew her, was born November 8, 1935 at Truman, Arkansas to the late Gordon and Hilda (Baker) Williams. She was baptized as a youngster into the Pentecostal faith. On March 17, 1955 she was married to Virgil L. Brewer and to this marriage three children were born. Both she and her husband were ordained ministers and together spread the Word of God. Berniece was very musically inclined and played the piano for church, sang duets, and played various other instruments. She later obtained her license as a Medical Technician and worked in several of the area health care facilities which included Cuba Manor, Manchester Nursing Home, and Beverly Health Care. She enjoyed her pets and plants and camping.
She is survived by two sons, Gordon and wife, Elaine, of Moscow Mills, Missouri and Gary and wife, Christine, of Leasburg, Missouri; one daughter, Gail Brewer of Bourbon, twelve grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. One sister, Darlene Yarbrough, also preceded her in death.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 200 in Bourbon Cemetery with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Elzie Price
Elzie M. Price of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Monday, May 1, 2000 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Mr. Price was born September 23, 1933 in Harrisburg, Arkansas to the late Arthur R. and Della Mattie (Simpson) Price. He was raised in the Harrisburg area and at an early age began helping his father on the family farm. On September 6, 1953 he was united in marriage to Imodell Mears in Mississippi and to this marriage two children were born. In 1965 the family moved to Sullivan where Elzie was employed at the former Zephyr Station. He later was employed by Glenn Stack as a driver which would span a career of 16 years. When Mr. Stack sold his business, Elzie continued his career with BFI. He found pleasure being with his family and attending family functions, working on cars, hunting and cutting wood..
Surviving along with his wife Imodell are: one son Leon Price and wife Beverly of Sullivan and one daughter, Carmel Edwards of Sullivan, two brothers, Walter Price of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Luther Price of Sullivan, Missouri, three half-brothers, Joe Price of Sullivan, Ed and Fred Price both of Jonesboro, Arkansas, four half-sisters Faye Scott of Georgetown, Illinois, Kay Roberts, Diane Wheeler, and Pat Juras all of Jonesboro, Arkansas, two grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and David Price, other relatives and friends. Two brothers, Harvey and Leroy Price preceded Elzie in death as did a half-sister, Bonnie Jenson.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Dale Graham officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.
Audrey Stringer
Audrey L. Stringer of Sullivan passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at the age of 68 years.
Audrey was born April 25, 1932 to the late Thomas and Inez (Bartlett) Billington at Overland, Missouri. On December 23, 1953 she was married to Orville Springer at Brentwood, Missouri and ten children were born to this marriage. Audrey was baptized into the Pentecostal faith as a youth and later served on the board at the Church of the Nazarene in Sullivan for several years. Audrey loved to cook and enjoyed tending her roses. She was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan but the joy of her life were her many grandchildren and great-granchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Stringer, of Sullivan, two sons, Louis Stringer and wife, Victoria, of Sullivan, Thomas Stringer and wife, Heather, of Sullivan, seven daughters, Wendy Hollingshead and husband, Charles, of St. Louis, Floy Hollingshead and husband, David, of Springfield, MO, Sandra Mees and husband, Ed, of Poplar Bluff, MO, Linda Miles and husband, Howard, of Owensville, Debra West and husband, Roger, of Sullivan, Glenda Keeling and husband, Reggie, of Poplar Bluff, MO, one daughter in law, Louise Stringer, of Sullivan, one brother, Thomas Glen Billington and wife Peggy, 23 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Along with her parents, Mrs. Stringer was preceded in death by one son, Richard Stringer, one daughter, Cindy Fay Stringer, and one brother, Gale Billington.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2000 from Beacon of Hope Tabernacle, Bourbon, Missouri with Rev. Linda Reedy officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Jean McClintinck
Jean M. McClintinck of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Monday, April 24, 2000 at the age of 85 years.
Mrs. McClintick was born February 26, 1915 in Bourbon, Missouri to the late Daniel and Wilhelmina (Schulte) Spicer. She was a life-long resident of Bourbon and worked at Paramount Headwear Company for many years. On May 3, 1933 she was married to Virgil McClintick who preceded her in death in 1986. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Bourbon and helped many years in the church kitchen as well as in the Bourbon Community Center. Mrs. McClintick was a kind and loving, very helpful Christian lady who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, Edward McClintick of Santa Rosa, California, two daughters, Patsy Ray of Sullivan and Ginger (Neff) Bobbitt of Richwoods, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, John, Jim and Denelle McClintick, Deborah Yeakey, Leslie Michels, Charles and Sharon Ray, Jason, Clayton and Ben Neff, 6 great-grandchildren, Kolinda and Shiloh Ray, Adam and Marrisa Neff, Jordan Michels and Michelle Miller, other relatives and friends. Mrs. McClintick was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy McClintick, two sisters, Jessie Hinch and Grace Haase and by six brothers, Daniel, George, Floyd, Myron, Roland and Elmer Spicer.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2000 from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor Mike King officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Jean McClintick was held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon.
Harold "Hutch" Hutchins
Harold “Hutch” Hutchins of Japan, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 8, 2000 at the age of 79 years.
Mr. Hutchins was born on April 7, 1920 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio to the late Vera nee Lindall and Harold Hutchins, Sr. of Ormond Beach, Florida. “Hutch” served his country with distinction as an Infantry Captain and Commander in World War II. He was wounded at Anzio, Italy and in 1944 was awarded the Purple Heart. He also participated in the landing at Salerno and Anzio, Italy, and received the Bronze Star award. He was honorably discharged after three years of service in the United States Army. On January 15, 1962 “Hutch” was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Giancola. “Hutch” and Gloria spent the majority of their working lives together in the management and operation of numerous, large hotels and motels throughout the country. After retirement they traveled across the country, and also made five trips abroad to Italy and other European countries before settling in Japan, Missouri.
“Hutch” and the late Gloria Hutchins are survived by five daughters, Carol Bartlett of Wentzville, Missouri, Gloria “Deet” Bedrosian of Sullivan, Donna Blankenship and husband, Richard, of Spring Bluff, Debbie Sabatino and husband, Tony, of Sullivan, and Denise Bess and husband, Randy, of Cuba, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. “Hutch” was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Ann Hutchins, on November 24, 1990, and also by his brother, Dan Hutchins, of New Canaan, Connecticut.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2000 from the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church with the Reverend Father Robert Marshall officiating. Interment was in Holy Martyrs Church Cemetery. Visitation hours for Mr. Harold “Hutch” Hutchins were from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Ethel Pratt
Ethel A. Pratt of Sullivan passed away Monday, January 10, 2000 at the age of 65 years.
Ms. Pratt was born on September 10, 1934 in Sullivan, Missouri to the late William and Thelma (Blackburn) Pratt. She was raised in Sullivan, and lived her entire life in the Sullivan area. As an adult, Ethel served as a faithful caregiver for both of her parents. Baptized at any early age, she was a very active member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan. She also was a well known worker at the Sullivan Senior Citizens Dining Center. Throughout her life Ethel was loving and giving to all those around her. She especially treated her nieces and nephews as though they were her very own children. In addition, she is described as a woman who “never seemed to meet a stranger.” Ethel enjoyed puzzles, possessed a keen appreciation of animals, and deeply loved her dog, Christina.
She is survived by two brothers, Roy L. Pratt of Sullivan and William B. Pratt of Lexington, Tennessee; two sisters, Phoebe Stevens and Helen Neeley Sanders and husband, Russell, all of Sullivan; nieces, nephews, other relatives a close friend Mary Myers and many other friends.
Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery.
Elizabeth L. Dodd
Elizabeth L. Dodd of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at the age of 68 years.
Mrs. Dodd was born July 18, 1931 at Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Clarence and Perna Mae (Launius) Parkhill. Though she was born in Michigan, she was raised in various part of the West. On January 18, 1953 she was married to John Dodd at Reno, Nevada. In 1962, they moved to the Sullivan area when the Pea Ridge Mine opened. Mrs. Dodd was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan where she was nursery attendant for many years. She was a very caring person who loved children and especially her Lord, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Bud Cox of East Layton, Utah, and Floyd Dodd of Mesa, Arizona, two daughters, Nellie Machelett and Sheila Manning both of Sullivan, two step-daughters, Cheryl Dodd of Pasadena, California and Aleatha Dodd of Mesa, Arizona, two step-sons, John Dodd of Long Island, New York and James Dodd of Mesa, Arizona, three sisters, Dorothy Reed of Matteson, Illinois, Cecile Skeens of Rockland, California and Laura Chapman of Roseville, California, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Floyd and Charles Dodd, a brother, Melvin H. Launius, and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2000 from the First Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Ted Hurley officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Cynthia Schatz
Cynthia Schatz of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Friday, December 31, 1999 at the age of 86 years.
Mrs. Schatz was the wife of the late Edward Henry Schatz and daughter of the late Frank and Phoebe (Vest) Missey. She was born June 22, 1913 in Franklin County near Cedar Hill, Missouri. In 1932 Cynthia was married to Edward Schatz and they were blessed with six children. For many years, Mrs. Schatz tenderly cared for the newborns as a Nurses Aid in the nursery of Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. She retired only three years ago and will be remembered by many young families as one who loved their children as her own. In her quiet time, she enjoyed sewing and quilting and making dolls. Mrs. Schatz was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sullivan.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Schatz and wife Shirley of Villa Ridge, Missouri, Lonnie Schatz and wife Sue of Gerald, one daughter, Joan Lewis of Sullivan, one half-sister, Violet Love of Sullivan, one brother-in-law, Ed Shults of San Diego, California, four sisters-in-law, Lola Rock, Ida Thurmond, Violet Cartwright all of Sullivan, and Lilly Missey of Union, 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her husband and parents, two sons, Carl and Neil Schatz preceded her in death, as did one daughter in infancy, Shirley Schatz, two daughters-in-law, Sarah and Doris Schatz, four grandchildren, four brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Ray L. Schatz, Jr. officiating. Interment was in Stanton Cemetery.
