He was a beloved grandpa to Justin, Christa and Olivia Galvin. He was cherished by many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, William & Elvera Wacker, and brother Kevin Wacker. He will leave treasured memories with all who knew him. He had a love of many things, his family being first. He was a joyful, loving, fun man with a spirit that touched many lives. Life was never about him but always about others. He was a life-long coach to boys & girls in baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.

John E. Kopp of Warrenton died Tuesday, June 11, at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. John was born May 9, 1933 in Maplewood, Mo., the third child of Hubert and Alma (Curtis) Kopp. He attended Valley Elementary School, Maplewood-Richmond Heights Jr. & Sr. High Schools, graduating from MRH in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville. He graduated in 1959 with a bachelor’s in teaching and earned a Master’s Plus 30 in education at Webster University in 1970. He began a 30-plus year career as a teacher at Fort Dodge, Iowa High School in 1960. He then moved to St. Louis and taught English, Creative Writing, and Drama at University City High School (1960-1963) and Berkeley Sr. High (1963-1990). An avid actor and director, John was a member of the Alpha Players and Wagon Wheel Players, among others. He performed in and/or directed more than 300 community theater productions and directed many more high school plays and musicals. Following his retirement from teaching in 1990, John authored two novels, Don’t Call Me Coach and Don’t Call Me Hemlock. He was also a contributing writer to the children’s magazine Jack and Jill. Survivors include his wife Dorothy (Strange) Kopp (married December 26, 1952), three children - David and wife Karen (Bell), Warrensburg Mo., Martin and wife Nancy (Baker), Riverview Mo., Elizabeth Ann Plumberg and husband Chuck, Denver, Pa., a sister, Barbara Kopp, Shrewsbury, Mo., a brother, Thomas Kopp, Richmond Heights, Mo., nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hubert Kopp and Curtis Kopp. A memorial service is set for Saturday June 15, 2013 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Wright City, 104 Hedeman, Wright City, MO, 63390. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Wright City, P.O. Box 317, Wright City, MO 63390.

He was a member of The Church of the Transfiguration, Lake St. Louis. 50 year member of Masonic Mechanicsville Lodge #260 in Defiance, MO. He was in The Order of True Kindred and a York Rite member. He was a 32nd degree mason. He was a member of UFAW local #655.
