John P. Wiley of O’Fallon, MO and Punta Gorda, FL passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013. He was born on December 7, 1936 to Thelma and Willard Wiley in Harrisburg, IL. After graduating from Harrisburg Township High School in 1954, John matriculated into Purdue University from which he graduated with a degree in engineering in 1959. John spent his professional career in the aerospace and aviation industries. He initially was a design and test engineer with Rocketdyne Corp and later moved to St Louis to work for the government group providing liaison and oversight of McDonnell-Douglas military contracts in design, fabrication, and repair of military aircraft. John retired from those offices as the Director of Quality Control in 1996. John’s retirement from engineering allowed him to vigorously pursue his automobile passion. He was a lifelong collector and had an extensive collection of cars and antique farm engines. He loved to repair and rebuild engines and mechanical equipment. A good day for John would be one which presented challenges to allow him to exercise his creativity and mechanical skills to bring something old back to working order. John is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Nathan Wiley and Buffy Wiley Lindsey and their children, and his siblings, Kathryn Wiley Barnhill and Roger Wiley and their children and grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL, Wednesday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital Siteman Cancer Center, PO Box 790369, St. Louis MO 63179-9917.
