Amazing mother, daughter, wife and friend passed away quietly at home December 22, 2011 surrounded by her family and fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church. Born in Havana, Cuba, to Enrique Carcas and Dulce Maria Martinez de la Cotera de Carcas. Loving wife of Evelio J. Sardiña for 52 wonderful years; loving mother and mother in law of Evelio Enrique (Kandace Moore) Sardiña, Jorge Luis (the late Kathleen McGrory) Sardiña and Cecilia Marie (Nestor) Guzman. Loving grandmother of Erik Evelio, and Cecilia Katherine Sardiña; Mia Ines and Cash Nestor Guzman; dear sister in law of Carlos (Judy) Sardiña, dear aunt of Carlos II, cousin and friends to many. Numy attended the American Dominican Academy where she excelled academically and in sports and was majorette of the marching band. Numy studied voice and piano and became an accomplished concert pianist and classical singer. The Dominican Academy School hymn was recorded by Numy during her school years and it is still played at the schools reunions. Upon leaving Cuba as a result of the revolution Numy and her husband came to United States in November 1960 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. After living in the Midwest for several years, and having three beautiful children, Numy and Evelio moved to the east coast. There, Numy raised a family and supported her husband’s business. She was also often found leading or supporting various church choirs, or pursuing further musical training. Numy greatly enjoyed spending time with - and was actively involved with - her dogs and horses. In 1998 Numy and Evelio retired to Sarasota Florida, where Numy excelled in tennis and golf before being diagnosed with a liver disease. With that diagnosis, Numy and Evelio returned to St. Louis and settled in Innsbrook, Missouri. She developed a close relationship with her doctors and nurses at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital and ultimately received a liver transplant on September 14, 2008. God touched Numy and her family on that day and permitted her to remain with us for three more years before being diagnosed with cancer in December 2011. Numy was a humble, courageous and beautiful woman who lived an extraordinary life. She was adored by everyone who knew her. She was a positive and a compassionate woman whose support offered comfort and understanding for her family, children and friends. Her home was filled with music and singing and she was an inspiration to those who were fortunate to hear her beautiful angelic voice. She lived surrounded by a great deal of love and admiration. In lieu of flowers and in Numy’s beautiful, shining memory, donations can be made to The Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney Guild (Founder of the Knights of Columbus) at One Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510 or to an Animal Rescue Organization of your choice.
