Dianna L. McBaine
Dianna L. McBaine, 56, of Windsor, Mo., died Monday, April 21, 2014 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens with Dr. Dan Lowry officiating. Pallbearers will be Ernie King, Josh King, Jesse Barrett, Bobby Packham, Bill Boyd, and Matt Neale.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dianna L. McBaine Memorial Fund with checks made payable to Amanda Boyd or the American Heart Association or Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital and all can be left in care of the funeral home.
She was born January 4, 1958, in Clinton, Mo., the daughter of Eddie and Betty (Clear) McBaine.
On January 31, 1986, she was united in marriage to Steven Burge in Warrensburg. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2008.
Dianna was a graduate of Leeton High School class of 1976. She then attended and received her Bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Central Missouri State University. Dianna worked as a Special Education Elementary teacher for the Leeton R-10 School District for six years, and later worked as a substitute teacher for the surrounding school districts for another 10 years until her health declined. She was a member of the Leeton Christian Church.
Dianna is survived by two daughters, Amanda Boyd and husband, Jesse Barrett of Windsor and Joanna Taylor and husband, Bobby Packham of Leeton, Mo.; one brother, Ernie King of Warrensburg; two sisters, Brenda Snorgrass of Kansas City, Mo., and Cynthia Hopkins of Harrisonville, Mo.; her step-father Jerrold King of Leeton, and 12 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her mother and one brother J.R. King.
James O. Hillsman
James O. Hillsman, 94, of Centerview, Mo., died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, Mo.
Jim was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Vernon County, Mo., near Schell City, the son of William Albert Hillsman and Edna Florence (Endicott) Hillsman. Following graduation from Schell City High School, he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corp, having served as a radio gunner on a B-17 during World War II. James married Ruby Kohler in 1938 in Deep Water, Mo., and to this union three children were born: James (Jimmy), Donald and William. He would later marry Mildred (Wilson) Lockard in 1966 in Bolivar, Mo. In March 1999, he married Juanita Bird in Warrensburg. James was employed with Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 26 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Wild Turkey Federation, Conservation Federation of Missouri and Civil Conservation Corps.
Survivors include two sons: Donald Allen Hillsman and wife, Teresa, of Warrensburg; and William Albert Hillsman and wife, Marilyn, of Warrensburg; two step-sons James Lockard and wife, Reba; and Wayne Lockard; and step-daughter Ann Ludlum and husband, Dan; step-son Billy Marshall and wife, Lyla; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, James (Jimmy) Hillsman; his three wives; a granddaughter, Tamara Jayne Hillsman Swigart; his stepdaughter Sally Canseco; his stepson Jerry Lockard; his two sisters, Twila Rose Brown and Annabelle Hillsman; and his three brothers, Clarence Hillsman, Clark Hillsman and Clyde Hillsman.
Alice I. Gudde
Alice I. Gudde, 85, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Harmony Gardens Assisted Living in Warrensburg.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Williams Funeral Chapel, located at 1400 S Maguire St., Warrensburg.
Alice was born March 4, 1929 in Higginsville, Missouri the daughter of John and Carrie (Meade) Fortner. She graduated from Higginsville High School. She was united in marriage to Albert O. Gudde on June 7, 1965 in Bates City. Alice was employed with Southwestern Bell for thirty nine years, having retired in 1992. She was a member of Grover Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sister, Doris Johns of Bates City, Mo.; two step daughters, Judy Gudde and Carole Ramsey; step grandson, Jeff Corwin and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert and step granddaughter, Stacy Blede.
Frederick E. Patterson
Frederick “Rick” E. Patterson, 58, of Knob Noster, Mo., died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation services will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, with memorial services following with Brother Charles officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia Society and can be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born March 26, 1956, in Maryville, Mo., the son of Eugene and Idalynn (Guthrie) Patterson. On Oct. 8, 1993, he was united in marriage to Jo Dee Cleveland in Warrensburg, Mo. Rick worked as tow truck driver for Tip Top Towing in Warrensburg for several years. He loved going to his grandchildren’s games and being with his friends. Rick’s hobbies included fishing, riding motorcycles, restoring and painting automobile vehicles. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his wife, Jo Dee; two daughters, Kristy Fuller and husband, Tyson and Jessica Patterson, all of Knob Noster; one son, Rustie Patterson and wife, Theresa of Warrensburg; three brothers, Randy Patterson of Garden City, Kan., Roger Hornecker of Andover, Kan. and Robbie Hornecker of Ft. Morgan, Co.; one sister, Melissa Huff of Greeley, Co.; his mother, Idalynn Hornecker of Ft. Morgan and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Patterson, and his step-father, Jerald Hornecker.
Scott Edward Allen
Scott Edward Allen, 48, of Holden, Mo., died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at his residence.
Scott was born Nov. 15, 1965, in Independence, Mo. He graduated from Holden High School. Shortly after, he attended Central Texas College in Killeen. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1987. Scott was stationed in Germany for three years. He served as an MP until his honorable discharge in 1995. Following active duty, he returned to the Holden area. He was employed with Iron Workers Local Union No. 10 for nearly the past 20 years. Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking and canning.
Survivors include his significant other, Christine Ruby of Holden; two sons, Christopher Allen of Holden and James Allen and wife, Lisa, of Independence; granddaughter, Addilyn Marie Allen; sister, Radonna Willis of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Todd Allen and wife, Stacie, of Goodyear, Ariz.; stepmother, Brenda Allen of Kingsville, Mo.; and three stepbrothers, Scott Harper of Kingsville, Robbie Allen of Holden, and Eric Allen of Holden. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Allen, this past year.
Richard E. Spratt
Richard E. Spratt, 60, died due to unforeseen health problems on April 6th, 2014 at Lees Summit Hospital.
Spratt was born in Kansas City, Mo., in 1954, and moved to Warrensburg five years ago after retiring as a Master Pressman and guitar player.
His ashes were taken back to Arizona by his son to be be spread over the mountains he loved north of Phoenix, Ariz.
Larry Wayne Criss
Larry Wayne Criss, 54 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Lees Summit Medical Center.
Services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, Mo.
Larry was born July 23, 1959 in Warrensburg, the son of William E. and Donna S. (Summers) Criss. Following graduation from Warrensburg High School, he moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he worked for Wells Fargo for a brief time. He then moved back to Warrensburg and was a chef at Heros Restaurant. Later, he moved to Paynesville, Ohio, where he cooked at an extended care facility. More recently, he moved to Geneva, Ohio, where he was a chef and manager at the No Name Restaurant. Due to health reasons, Larry eventually retired and returned to Warrensburg. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of the Boy Scouts, having served as a chaplain at one time. He was also a member of the Masons, Corinthian Lodge #265 AF & AM as well as Fraternal Order of the Beaver of North America and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his father and stepmother: William and Gloria Criss of Warrensburg; step brother, Galen Corbett and wife, Teresa of Warrensburg; two step sisters; Connie Rock and husband, Mike of Richardson, TX and Pamela Giabbai and husband, Bob of Overland Park, Kan.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna and his sister, Linda Criss.
Kenneth Eugene Jennings
Kenneth Eugene Jennings, 64 of Independence, Mo., formerly of Holden died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Center Point Medical Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be held on 10 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at Elm Springs Baptist Church located on 570 NW 1601 Road, Kingsville, Mo.
Kenneth was born Nov. 21, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Alvin Ken Jennings and Lucille Frances (Gordon) Jennings. He was raised on the family farm north of Holden and graduated from Holden High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Following his discharge from active duty, Kenneth graduated from University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness. Shortly after, he moved to Independence where he went to work for the 7-11 Convenience Store chain for several years. Kenneth was united in marriage to Sylvia Dawn Ware on Feb. 17, 1979, at Elm Springs Baptist Church. He eventually became employed with the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 2007 following 30 years of service. He was a member of Holden FFA He was the Star Farmer in 1967. Kenneth was a member of the All-Together 4-H Club. He was also a longtime member of Elm Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; parents, Kenneth and Lucille Jennings of Holden, Mo.; daughter, Janene Jennings of Independence; sons, Jerome Jennings of Independence and Jeremy Jennings of Independence; stepdaughter, Christina Parrino of Independence; stepson, Matthew Hey of Baldwin City, Kan.; sisters, Linda Brown and husband, Warren of Liberty, Mo. and Rosalee Wilson and husband, Rob of Lenexa, Kan.; brother, Larry Jennings of Holden; step grandchildren, Christyle Parrino and Sterling Parrino and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
