Rafael Garza-Gonzalez
Rafael Garza-Gonzalez, 53 of Butler, Mo. formerly of Warrensburg died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at his residence.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Mario Garza-Gonzalez and Margaret H. Garza-Gonzalez; a brother, Reon Garza-Gonzalez and wife, Lisa Ann; daughter, Emma Foley; son, Daniel Rafael Garza-Gonzalez; nephew, Samuel Mario and niece, Kaitlyn Rose Garza-Gonzalez, all of Warrensburg; uncle, Roberto Garza-Gonzalez of Monterrey, Mexico and aunt, Carmen Garza-Meza of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Mario R. Garza-Gonzalez in 1990.
Robert L. Collins
Robert L. Collins, age 62, of Centerview, MO, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at Western Missouri Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Grover Park Baptist Church in Warrensburg with Dr. Randall S. Neal and Pastor Jim Short officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in West Plains, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the W.C. Baptist Association Summer Camp Scholarship Fund or the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in West Plains, Mo., and both can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
He was born February 2, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Harold and Ora (Belle) Collins.
On August 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Brenda Brown in West Plains, Mo.
Robert was a graduate of West Plains High School in West Plains, Mo., class of 1970. He then attended Southwest Missouri State University in West Plains, Mo. He received his Bachelor’s degree from William Jewel College in Liberty, Mo., in 1984. Robert then received his Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theology Seminary in 1992 in Kansas City, Mo., and was currently working on his doctrine in ministry. Robert was Director of Missions for West Central Baptist Association since 1997. He was former pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Warrensburg, the Pythian Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., the First Baptist Church in Bunker, Mo., Missouri City Baptist Church in Missouri City, Mo., and Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Willow Springs, Mo.
Robert is survived by his wife Brenda; two daughters, Melinda Hunter and husband Jake of Columbia, Mo., and Mary Collins of Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alask.; one son, Matthew Collins and wife Kristen of Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alask.; three sisters, Judy Harden and husband Bill, and Shelia Keller, all of West Plains, Mo., and Tink Fulton and husband Josh of Granite City, Ill.; three brothers Harold, Sibley, and Joseph Collins, all of West Plains, Mo.; two brothers- in- law, Virgil Brown of Woodbridge, Va., and Bill Brown and wife Janet of Lake Stevens, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Virginia Lompis; and four grandchildren, Lisa Harley and husband Brian of Byron, Ga., and Katie Hunter of Columbia, Mo., Jack and Aubrey Collins of Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alask.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Collins; one niece Ada Shinohara; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Lompis and Leon Keller; one sister-in-law, Suki Collins: and father and mother-in-law, Leroy and Alma Brown.
Hillard William Wissman
Hillard William Wissman, 90, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Hillard was born March 21, 1923, in Cole Camp, Mo., the son of Joseph J. and Marie (Hayworth) Wissman. He graduated from Centerview High School. He entered the United States Army on March 19, 1946. He served with the 743rd Anti Aircraft Gun Battalion in Manila Island, Philippines. Hillard was discharged April 12, 1947, at Camp Beale, California. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Gregg on Aug. 28, 1949. He worked for Roseland Meats, Lake City Arsenal and later, Unitog. He also did some farming. Hillard was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the Golden Agers.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Bill Wissman and wife, Wanda, of Warrensburg; and Robert Wissman of Garden City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Heather Wissman Clark and husband, Rick, of Bossier City, La.; Nicole Heaton and husband, Lane; and Erik Wissman, all of Warrensburg; a great-grandchild, Ayden Clark, and another on the way. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wissman, of Warrensburg and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Marie Musick and Margaret Alderson and his brother, Harold Wissman.
Robert A. Marr
Bob A. Marr, 80, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Warrensburg First Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Classen officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Witaker “Red Beard, ” Larry Barker, “Blue Leader, ” Ron Stephens, Jim Temmen, Bob Grainger, and Mike Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Joan Hedges, Sonny and Charlotte Phelps, Ron Clawson, Neal DeVasher, Trudy Sites, and Kevin Smith.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens will full military honors provided by Warrensburg American Legion and VFW.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
He was born April 1, 1933, in Warrensburg, the son of Everett and Minnie (Rance) Marr.
On June 10, 1956, he married Ann Barbee in Warrensburg.
Bob was a graduate of Warrensburg College High School class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was a Korean War Veteran. After his military service, Bob worked for his father at Marr Brothers Quarry in Warrensburg. He later owned his own trucking company until the present time. Bob was a member of the Warrensburg First Baptist Church, Warrensburg Elks Lodge 673, Warrensburg American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513. Bob was a loving husband, and a proud dad and grandfather. He enjoyed a good ball game and loved to watch his grandkids play. Bob was known as a tireless worker and dedicated family man.
He is survived by his wife Ann; two sons, Gary Marr, and Steve Marr and wife, Wendy, all of Warrensburg; three brothers, Charles Marr and wife, Bonnie, of Warrensburg; Marion Marr and wife, Edda, of Warrensburg; and John Marr and wife, Sue, of Raymore Peculiar, Mo.; two sisters, Alberta Grandstaff of Higginsville, Mo.; and Sue Fisher and husband, Bobby, of Warrensburg; friend of the family he raised, Chris Sharp of St. Paul, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Cory, Brett, Teea Ann and Brittany Marr; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Marr, on March 7, 1962; one brother, Bill Marr, in 1953; and one sister, Betty Bird, on May 27, 2009.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Warrensburg High School for baseball, softball and wrestling, with checks made payable to Warrensburg High School, and can be left in care of the funeral home.
Donnabelle Mae Higgins
Donnabelle Mae Higgins, 83, Holden, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Holden Manor Care Center.
Cremation under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Forward Community Church in Holden.
She was born Aug. 16, 1930 in Grover, Iowa, the daughter of Norman and Louise (Pickle) Andrews. She graduated from Grover High School and married Harold William “Doc” Higgins on August 18, 1949 in Shurbon, Minn. He preceded her in death Oct. 21, 2007.
Donnabelle lived in the Holden and Blairstown communities most of her life. She worked as a custodian at the Holden City Hall for many years. She was a Baptist.
Surviving her passing are one son Rick Higgins; one brother, Ronald Andrews, Butte, Montana; two sisters, Bernice Gorham and Sharon Theesfield, both in Grover, Iowa; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Lorene Higgins, Holden, Mo. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Lloyd Andrews, and a sister, Norma Smith.
Mary Lou Bryant
Mary Lou Bryant, 88, of Clinton, Mo., formerly of Holden died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Jefferson Gardens Assisted Living in Clinton, surrounded by her family.
Mary Lou was born May 18, 1925, in Kingsville, Mo., the daughter of Luther Thomas Gann Sr. and Beulah Mae (Koch) Gann. She was raised on the family farm near Holden, having graduated from the Holden High School. She was united in marriage to Virgil Edgar “Bill” Bryant Sr. on June 9, 1943, in Peculiar, Mo. The couple made their home on a farm south of Holden for several years, prior to moving to the Medford Community. Next, they moved to a farm east of Holden. They later relocated to a house in Holden, where the couple operated Lawler’s Service Station for a number of years. They eventually retired to a farm southeast of Holden. Upon her husband’s death, Mary Lou resided in Holden for several years.
She had lived in Clinton since October 1999. Her hobbies included tending to her flowers, cooking and reading. Mary Lou’s gift in life was her children, friends and family. There was always room at her table for anyone that wanted to eat or just be entertained.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Parson and husband, Ed, of Blue Springs, Mo.; Marti Hancock and husband, Steve, of Branson, Mo.; and Judy Simpson and husband, Darrell, of Blue Springs; six sons, Mike Bryant and wife, Kim, of Branson West, Mo.; Virgil Bryant and wife, Jeanne, of Holden; Dale Bryant and wife, Sally, of Clinton; Jack Bryant and wife, Diane, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and Lynn Bryant and wife, Becky, of Springfield, Mo.; and Steve Bryant and wife, Mary, of Clinton; brother, Luther Gann Jr. of Warrensburg, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; two sons, Gary Bryant and Rick Bryant; sister, Martha Mae Clinger; and four brothers, Joe Gann, George Gann, Eddie Gann and Ken Gann; and grandson, Jay Simpson.
Esther I. Cline
Esther I. Cline, 91, of Centerview, Mo., died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Western Missouri Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Columbus Christian Fellowship Church with Brother Richard Litle officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Hocter, Chris Hendren, Kyle Johnson and Brandon Johnson.
Interment will follow at Columbus Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Warrensburg Animal Shelter and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
She was born March 4, 1923, in Codell, Kan, the daughter of Jesse R. and Mattie (Danner) Cline.
During WWII, Esther worked as a riveter and an A-1 welder building gliders. After the war, she worked as an assembler at Western Electric for many years and retired in 1988 after 24 years. Esther then became a full time rancher. She was never without a job during her whole lifetime and always helped others who needed help. Esther was a member of the Codell Kansas Baptist Church.
Esther is survived by her long time friend, Theresa Hocter of Centerview; her great niece, Jama Edie of Whitecloud, Kan. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Roy Dale Constant
Roy Dale Constant, 79, of Centerview, Mo., died peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Lees Summit, MO. He was born on April 25, 1934 in Sheridan, Mo., the third child of six and the first son of Dale and Vetra (VanAusdall) Constant.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at Williams Funeral Chapel located on 1400 So. Maguire St., Warrensburg, Mo.
Graduating from Sheridan High School in 1952. Roy and Colene married on June 10, 1954 at the Country Club Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo. Soon after Roy started his service in the US Army where they were stationed at Ft. Knox, Ky. and then Ft. Hood, Tx. They started their family there with the birth of a daughter, Lynda and upon completion of Roy’s military service they returned to Kansas City where Roy went back to work for Sheffield Steel. They established a home in Kansas City and added two more children; a son, Ken and a daughter, Tricia to t heir growing family. In 1955 Roy accepted Christ as his Savior at the Beaumont Baptist Church, Kansas City.
Independence, Mo., became their new home in 1961. Here they added another daughter, Nancy to complete their family. During their time in Independence their home became a haven for neighborhood children, nieces and nephews, and more.
In 1977 they moved to Centerview, Mo., to the home where Roy raised Angus cattle. He retired from management at Armco Steel in 1982 with 30 years of service. Later he went to work for Gates Rubber Co. in Warrensburg, Mo., retiring in 1992. In 1998, Colene died. His children, grandchildren and other family were there to support him. He was always active in the community and became a member of Kiwanis, the Elks, and the VFW. He was privileged to serve as a member of the VFW Honor Guard.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Colene; his parents; in-laws, Olin and Marie Groom; sister, Leta and husband Duane Wake; sister, Doris Jean and husband Chuck Chancellor and infant brother Jimmie Eugene Constant.
Cancer invaded Roy’s life in 2003. In 2008 he was declared free of his cancer but the surgery, treatments, and side effects from his battle left him weakened but determined. He spent time raising his beloved cattle, taking care of his land, sharing his children’s lives, watching grandchildren marry and have his great grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his four children, Lynda Passiglia and husband Chuck ; Ken Constant and wife Vicki; Tricia Mannering and husband Kevin and Nancy Constant; sister, Willa Wilson; brother, Gary Constant; eight grandchildren, Darren Nipper and wife Crystal, DeAnna Ensminger and husband Kevin, Robert Mannering and spouse Brooke, Holly Jennings and husband Luke, Steven Mannering and wife Brandi, Brettni Bishop, Ryan Davis, and Kelsi Constant; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
