Barbara Jean Armstrong
Barbara Jean Armstrong, 77, of Belton, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 at home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Holden Cemetery under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo.
She was born Dec. 27, 1935, in Oak Grove, Mo., the daughter of James Rudolph and Bertha Elnora (Sailing) Greer. She had lived in Odessa and Kansas City, Mo., before moving to Belton in 1955. She had worked for Cotter and Company True Value Warehouse in Kansas City.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Hughes of Belton, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Donald Dean Bodenhamer
Donald Dean Bodenhamer, 78, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at Country Club Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Pete Beard officiating.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1935, in Warrensburg, the son of Roy and Lucille (Stephenson) Bodenhamer.
He was united in marriage on May 27, 1960, to Carolyn Wirsig in Deepwater, Mo.
Donald worked as an inspector with the Missouri State Highway Department and retired with more than 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn of the home; his son, Rusty Bodenhamer and wife, Melissa, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; his daughter, Sarah Summers and husband, Dan, of Mission Hills, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Blake and Bobbi Bodenhamer and Danny and Sydney Summers.
Memorial contributions are suggested as donor’s choice and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Jerry Christopher Stevenson
Jerry Christopher Stevenson, 68, Clinton, Mo, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at home.
He was born December 30, 1944 in North Kansas City, Mo. the son of Mose Christopher ad Mary Lucille (Lay) Stevenson. Jerry was a 1962 graduate of Kingsville High School, Kingsville, MO. He served four years in the Missouri National Guard, and on March 3, 1967 he married Charla Louise Page in Liberty, Mo.
Mr. Stevenson was a maintenance worker at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Harrisonville, Mo. He had lived in Kingsville and Leeton, Mo. before moving to Clinton in 2003. He was a member of the Kingsville Community of Christ Church.
Surviving his passing are his wife, Charla, of the home; one son, William Charles Stevenson, Creighton, Mo.; a sister, Judy Williams, Independence, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Cremation was under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo.
William Gale Yoder
William Gale Yoder, 69, of Licking, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 on the farm south of Holden.
He was born February 22, 1944 in Quick City, Mo. the son of James Levi and Beverly Maxine (Newman) Yoder. He graduated from Holden High School in 1962 and earned Bachelor and Masters degrees from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. On November 2, 1969 he married Martha Kay Garrett in Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Bill had lived in Licking since 1976 where he was the Director of the George O. White State Forest Nursery, a member of the Christian Church, a member of the Piney River Covey of Quail Forever, and a member of the Big Piney Sportsman Club,
He leaves his wife, Martha; one daughter, Lynda Gail Shelton, Cabool, Mo.; one brother, James Yoder, Lenexa, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services and Military Honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Medford Cemetery, Holden, MO, under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo.
Melvin L. Sims
Melvin L. “Mel” Sims, age 91, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Oct. 19, 2013 at the Western Missouri Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Reverend Randy Crawshaw officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Ahring, Rick Ahring, Don Moore, Tom Craig, Steve Ditty, and Greg Gladfelter. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Kimbley, Bill Ketcherside, Don Parsons, Gene Larson, and Bud Williams.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Network or Cumberland Presbyterian Church and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born September 25, 1922, in Warrensburg, Mo., the son of William Grover and Eunice Myrtle (Hayes) Sims.
On November 17, 1946, he was united in marriage to E. Frances Violett in Kansas City, Kan.
Melvin worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer for Martin Marietta Corporation for several years until his retirement. He was also active in local and state organizations including B.P.O.E. for 40 years, Masonic Lodge for almost 60 years, Kiwanis Club and Shriners.
Melvin is survived by his ever-loving wife of almost 67 years, Erma Frances (Violett) Sims and their number one doxie, Kaely; one brother, Grover W. Sims and wife Gloria of Tallahassee, Fla.; three brothers-in-law, Bill Rinne, Vernon Violett and wife Barbara, and Virgil Violett and wife Patty, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joyce E. Ralston
Joyce E. Ralston, 87, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Warrensburg, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at her daughter’s home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 603 N. Jennings Road, Independence, Mo., with the Rev. Paula Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Holem, Randy Stout, Lee Flanagan, Joseph Streetman, Greg Moore, Matt Bevan, Michael Longworth, Glen Longworth and Kenneth Swope. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Ralston, James Ralston, Justin Swope, Charlie Johnson, Donald Hill and Darrell Richey.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
She was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of John and Emma C. (Korneman) Ivan.
On May 27, 1945, she married Kenneth B. Ralston in Independence. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1986.
Joyce was a graduate of Appleton City High School in Appleton City, Mo., class of 1944. She worked as the residence hall director at Central Missouri State University for more than 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Warrensburg, a member of the White Shrine, a member of the B.P.W., a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg and attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Independence.
Joyce is survived by one son, Arthur K. Ralston of Paris, Mo.; four daughters, Joyce Hammond of Branson, Mo.; Dr. Linda S. Ralston of Salt Lake City, Utah; Denise Stout and husband, Randy, of Independence; and Dianna Streetman and husband, Joseph, of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Naomi Bevan of Reston, Va.; 15 grandchildren, Joyce Richey, Emma Holem, Betsy Johnson, Kenna Hammond, John and Larry Davis, Linda Winchester, Sharadawn Flanagan, Serend Hill, Bobbi Stout, Tristan Streetman, Mikayla Streetman, James Ralston, Julie Nelson and Jeanette Kennedy; and 26 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Larry, Cody, Ivan Davis, Aaron, Darrel and Robert Richey, Junior and Artie Johnson, Kenna and Angel Hammond, Michael and Mary Jo Dunlap, Kenneth and Justin Swope, Alice Holem, Alexis, Blaine, and Roscoe Flanagan, Donavan Hill, Liam Strong, Katelyn Winchester, Jacqueline, Linda, and Nathan Kennedy, Britney Longson, and Timothy Ralston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Cozette Davis and Kathy Ralston; two brothers, Wayne and James Moore; and one sister, Juanita Longworth-Buhr.

Linn Olen Collins
Linn Olen Collins, 60, of Knob Noster, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Knob Noster with Dawn Collins officiating.
Interment will follow at Knob Noster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, October 31, at the funeral home.

He was born December 12, 1952, in Holden, Mo., the son of Linn Roy and Hattie Ellen (Younce) Collins.
On April 11, 1998, he married Helen Muncy in Warsaw, Mo.
Linn attended Knob Noster High School. He later worked as a mechanic and farmer. Linn hobbies included collecting guns, knives, raising pigeons, fishing, hunting and he loved shooting guns with his best friend Richie and grandson Bryse. He also loved building bird houses with Kimberly girl and enjoyed woodworking, making walking sticks.
Linn is survived by his wife Helen of the home; two sons, Robert Collins and wife Dawn and Casey John Collins and wife Rhonda, all of Knob Noster, Mo.; two brothers, John William Collins of Del Rio, Texas, and Jim Louis Collins of Knob Noster, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn Collins and Bryse Hunter Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph Ferrel Collins, and three sisters, Emma Wilson, Dorothy Rose, and Mary Ann Davidson.
Jeannie Foster
Jeannie Foster, 71, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at the Country Club Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Brother Charles Brant officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Richmond Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Richmond, Mo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the mentoring program of the Prairie Dulcimer Club of Kansas City. Jeannie was a strong advocate and a contributing member of this group.
She was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Branson, Mo., the daughter of David C. and Eva Marie (Higgins) Barnes.
On May 23, 1964, she married Kenneth W. Foster at the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
Jeannie was a 1960 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School. She then attended the University of Central Missouri and graduated with a B.S. in Music Education. Jeannie taught music and was the band director at Knob Noster High School for 10 years. Jeannie then had time to pursue her love of art and spend more time with her husband, Kenneth Foster, on their farm north of Warrensburg. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Jeannie also traveled over several states as she displayed and sold her artwork to many people. Later she focused her talents in music and became a composer and a magnificent dulcimer player. Jeannie shared her love of playing the dulcimer with her many students. Her talents became well known in the community. Jeannie founded the New Century Dulcimer Ensemble of Warrensburg in 2003, and was also a member of the Prairie Dulcimer Club in Kansas City.
Jeannie is survived by her husband Kenneth W. Foster of the home, her brother, David J. Barnes and wife Sharon of Lee’s Summit, MO, nephews Travis Barnes of Kansas City, Jason Barnes and wife Andrea and their children Garrett, Seth, and Savannah all of Grain Valley, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents David C. and Eva Marie Barnes in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
