Leland Elwood Teater
Leland Elwood Teater, 92, a longtime resident of Warrensburg, died Feb. 14, 2013 at the Glen Rose Nursing Home near Granbury, Texas.
Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17 at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo., with Pastor Brian Classen officiating and full military honors provided by American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513.
Elwood was born on Aug. 5, 1920 to Goldie and Lenard Teater. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he and his wife, Dorothy, made their home in Warrensburg. Elwood and Dorothy celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary before Dorothy died in 2012.
Elwood and his wife, Dorothy, were longtime members of the First Baptist Church in Warrensburg. Elwood retired in 1985 after 35 years with the Johnson county Title Company, and five years with the Johnson County recorder’s office. Elwood was active in the Mathews–Crawford American Legion Post 131 and served in several offices, including serving as the 67th post commander.
In 2010 Elwood and his wife moved to Granbury, Texas, to live with their son Ed, and his wife, Kaye.
Elwood is survived by two sons, Ed and Lee, their wives Kaye and Sondra, their children and grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, Jake Siragusa, and Jack Swope, and his wife, Carol. Elwood is also survived by his many nieces and nephews as well as friends and other loved ones.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marjory, his brother, Keith, and step-brother, Johnny Chambers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg and can be left in care of the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Ruth E. Tresenriter
Ruth E. Tresenriter, 86, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Country Club Care Center.
Cremation graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens with the Rev. David Jordan officiating.
She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Knob Noster, the daughter of George Will and Emma Rose (Steele) Fisher.
She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Tresenriter on Aug. 26, 1946 in Warrensburg. He preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 2011.
Ruth was a graduate of Knob Noster High School. She worked 25 years for Sears in Warrensburg as an assistant manager until her retirement. Ruth then worked for Ryder Transportation and drove a school bus serving the Warrensburg R-6 School District for five years. She attended the Knob Noster Christian Church.
Ruth is survived by her children, Jill Reed and husband, Paul, of Olathe, Kan.; and Robert Tresenriter and wife, Kathy, of Oak Grove, Mo.; one brother, Ted Fisher and wife, Julie, of Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Mary Lee Poese, of Warrensburg; three grandchildren, Kevin Tresenriter and wife, Julie, of Liberty; Billi Jo Titus and husband, Cole; and Jason Whitaker and wife, Sarah, all of Independence, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James W. Fisher.

Ruby McLanahan Fender
Ruby McLanahan Fender, 83, of Kingsville, Mo., died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo. A funeral will follow at 10 a.m. with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Holden.
She was born Oct. 2, 1929, near Kingsville, a daughter of Jesse and Goldie May McLanahan. She graduated from Kingsville High School in 1947 and lived all her life in Johnson County, Mo. She married James Herbert Fender on June 30, 1948, in Holden.
Ruby taught 4-H sewing classes many years, was a gardener and canned many quarts of vegetables each year. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, upholstering, reading and decorating.
She leaves her husband, James Herbert Fender, of the home; one daughter, Linda Sue Morton and husband, Michael H., of Branson, Mo.; a sister, Doris Jean Gardner, of Washington, D.C.; and one grandson, Sean Michael Morton.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, J.C., Wayne, Jim and Everett McLanahan, and by four sisters, Mary, Anna, Esther and Bernadine.
Stanley Charles Clendenin
Stanley Charles Clendenin, 63, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Veterans Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg with Pastor Joel Kurz officiating. Pallbearers will be Christopher Cooper, Jevon Savage, Samuel Stokes, Tyrone Clendenin and Carl Browne.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 3 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
He was born Dec. 30, 1949, in New York, N.Y., the son of Chanston and Thelma Lee (Rhodes) Clendenin.
He was united in marriage to Cynthia Gloria Hines on Dec. 26, 1971 in Jacksonville, Ark.
Stanley served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1982 and retired with the rank of staff sergeant. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Stanley was a member of the Warrensburg Optimist Club, American Legion Post 131, the Mentor Club, and a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his four daughters: Stephine Clendenin, of Russellville, Ark.; Kamala Stokes and husband, Samuel, of Kingston, N.Y.; Kara Savage and husband, Jevon, and Christina Cooper and husband, Christopher, all of Warrensburg; his mother, Thelma Lee Clendenin-Pollack, of Long Island, N.Y.; his sister, Dianne Browne, of Trenton, N.J.; his brother, Tyrone Clendenin, of Virginia; and 12 grandchildren.
Stanley was preceded in death by his father.

SFC Trenton L. Rhea
SFC Trenton L. Rhea, 33, of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, during combat operations while serving with the United States Army 603rd Military Police Company, United States Army Reserve, Belton, Mo.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at First United Methodist Church-Celebration Center, 1701 W. 32nd St. in Sedalia, Mo., with Dr. Rusty Savage officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Blackwater Chapel Cemetery, south of Sweet Springs, Mo. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to family choice.
Trent was born Oct. 12, 1979, in Hays, Kan., to Marshall Rhea, who survives of Oakley, Kan., and Rebecca Breeden Rhea, who survives of Colby, Kan. He was a 1998 graduate of Oakley High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in history from the University of Central Missouri. On April 22, 2006, he married Leah Reid, who survives of the home. Trent lived in the Kansas City area the last several years and was a United States Army Reservist with the 603rd Military Police Company out of Belton for the last 12 years. He also served as a research analyst for the United States Army’s Human Terrain System, based out of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., and was a life member of the V.F. W. Trent had an amazing faith and trust in God, and was a member of Platte City First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Leah Reid Rhea, of the home; and his parents, Marshall Rhea (Julie), and Rebecca Breeden Rhea; he is survived by his three daughters, Autumn Lee Rhea, Joanna Lynn Rhea and Abigail Christine Rhea; twin brother, Travis Rhea, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; sister, Samantha Repshire, of Oakley; step-brother, Jody Kruse, of Oakley; step-sister, Jade Kruse, of Oakley; paternal grandmother, Eileen Rhea, of Oakley; maternal grandfather, Kenny Breeden (Shirley), of Stockton, Kan.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harlan and Lynn Reid, of Sweet Springs; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends and fellow comrades.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold Rhea; maternal grandmother, Pat Breeden; and his step-brother, Jance Kruse.

Anna June Tate
Anna June Tate, 82, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Country Club Care Center surrounded by her children.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Pete Beard officiating. Pallbearers will be Carl Hutcherson, Steve Thoms, Chris Stryker, Jeremy Tate, Richard Tate, Jay Stephens, Michael Porter and Chad Currence.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service Saturday at the funeral home.
June, as she was known by most, was born on June 30, 1930, on a farm near Neal, Kan., to Charles Wesley and Julia Ann Wilcox Ball, number eight of nine children. She married Willie Lee “Bill” Tate on Oct. 16, 1949, and moved to Warrensburg. Bill preceded June in death on April 21, 2004.
She graduated from Humansville High School, in Humansville, Mo., in 1948 and then attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield, completing a one-year secretarial/accounting course. June worked as a homemaker and home-based bookkeeper while her children were small. In 1968, she became secretary for the dean of the School of Business at Central Missouri State College. In 1973, she went to work at Central Missouri Credit Union while it was operating in a house near the university. June retired as a vice president of the credit union in August 1986.
Bill and June moved their church memberships to the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg shortly after they were married. June taught preschool Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and sang in the sanctuary choir for many years. She had been a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, Bell Choir, Kitchen Band, Senior Adult Choir and Golden Agers. June had participated in Missouri Extension circles and also helped with establishing the Cardinals 4-H club in 1962. She enjoyed life, singing, playing the piano, cooking, sewing, family and friends.
She is survived by four daughters and one son and their spouses: Carol June and Kent McClellan Hutcherson, of Eldon, Mo.; Joyce Marie and Dell Edward Stephens, Betty Ruth and Billie Carl Thoms, Herbert Dean and Tina Darlene Tate, of Warrensburg; Julia Lea and Douglas Kent Stryker, of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; nine grandsons, five granddaughters, 11 great-grandsons, nine great-granddaughters and another on the way; one brother and his wife, Jesse and Clara Ball, of Raytown, Mo.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
June was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, David Lee Tate, three brothers, Elmer, Leo and John Ball, and four sisters, Nova Billups, Marian Brown, Edna Larcom and Cleo Springer.
Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home.
James Emery Penrose
James Emery Penrose, 87, of Independence, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Holden.
He was born April 12, 1926, in Centerview, Mo., a son of Arthur and Bessie (Hughes) Penrose. He graduated from Holden High School in 1944 and attended UCM in Warrensburg a short time. Jim was a Navy veteran of World War II. He married Roberta P. Bradbury on Dec. 22, 1945 in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Penrose had lived in the Odessa and Holden communities most of his life and moved to Independence eight years ago. He was a self-employed welder and a member of the Gudgell Congregation of the Community of Christ in Independence.
He leaves his wife, Roberta, of the home; one son, Ronald James Penrose, of Prairie Village, Kan.; one daughter, Norma Genese Larson, of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason Moore, Bryan Moore and Jeffrey Penrose; and five great-grandchildren, Max Penrose, Lucy Penrose, Kevaeh Moore, Reese Moore and Quinn Moore. A brother, John Arthur Penrose, preceded him in death.

Jackie Sylvester Ford Jr.
Jackie Sylvester Ford Jr., 82, of Holden, Mo., died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden. Interment will be in Holden Cemetery.
Friends may call 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday.
He was born May 24, 1931, in Wagoner, Okla., the son of Jack and Waunita B. (Quintin) Ford. He served an enlistment in the Oklahoma National Guard, and on Oct. 4, 1963, he married Mary Layland. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., until moving to Holden 37 years ago. Jackie had worked for Western Electric Corporation in Lee’s Summit prior to retiring. He played steel guitar with some bands in Holden.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Jason Ford, of Holden; two daughters, Georgia Kelly, of Pahrump, Nev., and Boisdee Peel, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Eleta Jo McNeil, of Holden; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
