Kenneth G. Glazebrook
Kenneth G. Glazebrook, 89, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Reverend Pete Beard officiating.
Interment will follow at Mineral Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Meador, Doug Gelbach, Andy Gelbach, Dr. Richard Melichar, Professor Rob Lawrence, and Paul Rowland.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born May 16, 1923, on a farm south of Concordia, Mo. the son of Grover and Maude (Venable) Glazebrook.
On March 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marian Hester Jones at their home in La Monte, Mo.
Kenneth was a graduate of Knob Noster High School class of 1941. He worked for Missouri Public Service Company and retired in 1983 after over 35 years of service.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Marian of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Jane, Vera Lee, and Marjorie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Warrensburg Elks Lodge #673 or the American Heart Association. Both can be left in care of the funeral home.
Leora S. Kuhlman
Leora S. Kuhlman, 94, of Knob Noster, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home in Sedalia, Mo.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating.
Interment will follow at Knob Noster Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Thad Fleming, Derek Kuhlman, Mitchell Demand, Michael Demand, Matt Demand, Erik Kuhlman, Josh Kuhlman, and Sam Swihart.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born May 27, 1919, in Rural Concordia, Mo., the daughter of Julius F. and Emma (Meyer) Lohman.
On March 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Glen Kuhlman in Warrensburg. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1993.
Leora graduated from Warrensburg College High School in 1937. She then attended Business College in Kansas City and worked for Kansas City Power and Light in the bookkeeping department. Leora then moved to the family farm in Knob Noster.
She worked as a nurses’ aide and then bookkeeper at Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Warrensburg where she retired in 1985 after more than 34 years of service. Leora was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church north of Knob Noster, where she taught Sunday school and played the piano and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Knob Noster Post #4195. She loved spending time with her husband at the Lake of the Ozarks, crappie fishing and canning out of their garden.
Leora is survived by her daughter, Sue Demand and husband Gail, of Smithton, Mo.; two sons: Don Kuhlman and wife June, of Knob Noster; and Gary Kuhlman and wife Peggy, of Sedalia, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Phil Kuhlman on March 6, 2001; and one great-grandson, Daniel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Bothwell Hospice and can be left in care of he funeral home.
Jean F. Lowery
Jean F. Lowery, 88, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Western Missouri Medical Center.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Howard E. and Viola Mae (Taylor) Smith.
Jean graduated from Warrensburg College High School in 1941. She worked at Unifemme and then Unitog as a seamstress retiring in 1989. She loved to sew, read, work crossword puzzles, and her family. Jean attended Harmony Baptist Church in Leeton, Mo.
Jean is survived by four daughters: Donna J. Lowery-Thomas and husband William, of Knob Noster, Mo.; Diana L. Little, of Fairview Heights, Ill.; Debra A. McBee and husband David, and Delora A. Lowery, all of Warrensburg; one son, Larry R. Lowery and wife Pam, of Lilburn, Ga.; two brothers, Gordon Smith, of Warrensburg, and Max Smith and wife Virginia, of Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Doris E. Stone; one brother, Howard E. Smith, Jr.; and two grandsons in infancy, Daryl and Donald McCurry.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and can be left in care of the funeral home.
Kathlyn ‘Kay’ Bodenhamer
Kathlyn “Kay” Bodenhamer, 76, of Warrensburg, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17 at Liberty Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Mo.; with Brother Chris Johnston officiating.
Interment will be private at Liberty Cemetery near Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Kay was born in Butler, Mo. on Jan. 21, 1937, the daughter of Clayton Arvin and Helen Celestine (Ray) Baie.
On May 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Delbert Ross Bodenhamer, in Adrian, Missouri.
Kay graduated from Adrian High School in 1954. She went on to receive her Bachelors’ Degree from Central Missouri State University. After graduation, she taught school in rural Johnson County, Mo. Upon receiving her Master’s Degree from CMSU, she taught Kindergarten for several years in Centerview, Mo.
Kay went on to become the reading coordinator for the Kansas City Magnet Schools. After retiring from teaching, Kay managed the Johnson County License Bureau for 12 years from 1993 to 2005. She was a member of the DAR, Trails Regional Library Board, Hospital Auxiliary, active member of the Liberty Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school at the church, and the WMU. She was a former 4-H leader, Missouri Southern Baptist Convention teacher trainer, and did mission work in Belarus to teach bible school.
Kay was also a member of the Missouri State Teacher’s Association and a member of the former school board for the Farmer’s School District. She was formerly employed with McDonald’s Corporation in Kansas City as an administrative assistant. She loved to travel to Asia, Europe, Alaska, as well as sewing and reading.
Kay is survived by her husband, Delbert Ross Bodenhamer, of the home; three sons: William Clayton and wife Lilian and Delbert Lee Bodenhamer, all of Isleton, Calif.; and Kenneth Joe and partner Michael Helman, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and one brother, Arvie Lee Baie and wife Linda, of Aurora, Co.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home.
Wilson E. Tyler
Wilson Ewing Tyler, 95, of Warrensburg, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the La Monte Christian Church, with Pastor Alan Morse officiating.
Interment will follow at La Monte Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Adam Dillon, Jeremy Dillon, Jim R. Tyler, Timothy Tyler, Aaron Hansen, Seth Tyler, Matt Tyler, Michael Tyler, and Steven Tyler.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.
He was born in Dunksburg, Mo. on April 18, 1917, the son of Lloyd and Grace (Robertson) Tyler.
On April 24, 1948, he was united in marriage to Ruth Maxine Finley in Warrensburg. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1996.
Wilson served in the U.S. Coast Guard and later worked as a farmer and cattleman. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed building, mechanics and loved inventing new things to improve his daily work. Wilson loved reading, studying family history, gardening, and enjoyed being with close friends and family. He was a member of the La Monte Christian Church where he taught Sunday school and served as deacon, and was member of the Farm Club and the Christian Builder’s Class.
Wilson is survived by five children, James A. Tyler and wife Linda, of Knob Noster, Mo.; Dean Tyler and wife Kathy, of Calhoun, Mo.; Joyce Schilb and husband Bob, of Knob Noster, Mo.; and Diana Jewett and husband Mike, of Windsor, Mo.; and Ray Tyler and wife Kelly, of Knob Noster, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, John, twin brother Wilford, and sister, Margaret King.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the West Central Christian Service Camp and can be left in care of Moore Funeral Home in La Monte, Mo.
Beau Gerard Appleton
Beau Gerard Appleton, 57, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at home.
Following cremation there will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo.
He was born Nov. 7, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Gordon Howard and Vanda Jonne (Brown) Appleton. He attended two years at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and was a union painter for Painters Local 9 in Kansas City. He had lived in Kansas City; Frankston, Texas; and Holden, and moved to Warrensburg two years ago.
He married Penny Louise Hutchison on July 1, 2006, in Independence, Mo. She survives him at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Brittany and Delia Appleton; two step-sons, Cory Wayne and William Huskey, both of Holden; his step-father, Virgil Jones, of Golden, Mo.; and a sister, Anna Lyle, Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Beau Appleton Memorial Fund.
Goldie Ellen Witter
Goldie Ellen Witter, 81, of Birmingham, Mo., died May 4, 2013 at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral Services will take place at noon Tuesday, May 7 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo.
Interment will follow at Holden Cemetery.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the service begins at noon.
She was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Chilhowee, Mo. the daughter of the late Robert and Nora (Steward) Gregory.
On Sept. 15, 1949 she married Charles Elza Witter, who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2010.
She lived in Raytown, Blackburn, Kansas City, and Osceola, Mo. Goldie worked at Sears, owned and operated Blackburn Tavern, was a bookkeeper at Odorite and retired to Osceola, Mo.
She lived with her sister, Mary Ann Green, in Birmingham, Mo. following her husband’s death. Goldie enjoyed tole painting, crocheting afghans and character dolls. She loved to watch and care for wildlife, and treasured the family pets.
Survivors include two adopted children, Georgia Leah Jones and Donny, of Lebanon Mo., and Cameron Royce Witter, of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister, Mary Ann Green, of North Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Elmer Gregory.
