Mariam Ruth Harvey
Mariam Ruth Harvey, 83, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at Country Club Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Warrensburg with the Rev. Terrence Moody officiating. Pallbearers are Leroy White, Robert Moore, Stanley Dollar, Charles Briscoe, Lawrence Rucker Jr., Sherman Tinder, Kenneth Watson and Carlos Hill Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Dyer, Steven Frazier Sr., Steven Frazier Jr., Joseph Frazier Jr., David Woods, and the Rev. Michael Forbush.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Ruth was born March 5, 1929, in Grenada, Miss., the daughter of the Rev. Myer L. and Anna Mae (Harbin) Titus, Sr.
She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Western Missouri Medical Center for more than 20 years. She then went to work at Enersys for five years and retired. She was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church as well as a member of the Usher Board and Mother Boards. She was also a volunteer at the Warrensburg Senior Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Frazier, of Warrensburg, Glenda Frazier and husband Steven Sr., of Warrensburg, and Shari Harvey, of Overland Park, Kan.; one son, William Johnson, of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Dr. Myer Titus Jr. and wife Constance, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Thomas and Ronald Bright; one grandson, Dwight Sweate; and one nephew, Greg Titus.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund and can be left at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Mabel Anna Golladay
Mabel Anna Golladay, 91, of Holden, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, Mo.
Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Holden Cemetery, in Holden, Mo., with the Rev. Jason Ku. Pallbearers are Russell Braun, Lori Edmondson, David Bryant, Anthony Smith, Timothy Smith and Carl White. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden.
She was born Jan. 5, 1921 in Holden, a daughter of Martin and Christina (Miller) Larsen. She graduated from Holden High School and attended UCM in Warrensburg. During WWII, she worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant.
She married William Lew Golladay on Dec. 27, 1960 in Holden. She worked as an office secretary several years at Golladay Motors in Holden and later for Missouri Public Service Company in Holden. She had been a member of Elm Spring Baptist Church for much of her life. For the last several years, she had been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Holden.
Mabel faced the adversities of her illness with grace, dignity and determination. She was an inspiration to all who loved her.
Surviving her passing are three daughters, Mary Beth Carlyle, of Bella Vista, Ark., Rita White, of Knob Noster, Mo., and Tina Smith, of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, Raymond Larsen and wife, Marie, of LaPine, Ore.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Norma Mae Mullis “Gimba” Hirni
Norma Mae Mullis “Gimba” Hirni, 96, of Holden, died Friday, March 15, 2013.
A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at First Baptist Church in Holden, Mo., under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home.
She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in LaCrosse, Kan., the third child of Coyet Jesse and Myrtle (Rankin) Mullis.
Norma was a 1934 graduate of Warrensburg High School and in 1942 graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a degree in business education.
On Feb. 14, 1942 she married Troy Edward Hirni, of Prairie City, Mo. Troy and Norma taught school in Bates City, Mo., until he was drafted into military service in 1943. After the war they both returned to teaching in Hume, Mo.
In 1949 they moved to Holden with their young family of three children. Norma once again returned to teaching at Kingsville High School where she taught business classes until 1959. She was then employed by the Holden School District where she taught for the next 20 years. During that time she became interested in early childhood education.
In 1971, while still teaching high school students, she founded and operated Crestview, an early learning center where many Holden children played and learned over the following 15 years. Norma spent the next phase of her life enjoying time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
After Troy’s death in 2005, Norma embarked on yet another project. She opened Gimba’s Books and Beyond, a used bookstore that combined her love of books with her enjoyment of friends. For 63 years she was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Holden where she found many opportunities to serve, the most recent being as teacher of the Fidelis class, a group of women whose friendship was one of the great joys of her life.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, and one son, Troy Edward Hirni II, who died in Vietnam in 1968; her parents; three sisters, Edith Adele, who died in infancy, Erma Pausch, of Mecca, Calif., and Delma McGhee, of Raytown, Mo.; and one brother, Duane Mullis, of Kansas City, Mo.
She is survived and honored in loving memory by a son, David Duane Hirni and wife Barbara Kalb, of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Christine Hile and husband Pete Hile, of Lexington, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kirstin Hirni and Rachel Hirni, of Kansas City, Mo., Jonathan Hilde and wife Allyson, of Kansas City, Mo., Anthony Hile and wife Karen, of Independence, Mo., and Troy Edward Hirni III (Scott), of Holden; five great-grandchildren, Ellen Marie Hirni, Troy Edward Hirni IV, and Christian Charles Hirni, all of Leeton, Mo., and Ellery Grace Hile and Owen Harper Hile, of Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holden Senior Center.
Dorothy E. Stockton Sims
Dorothy E. Stockton Sims, 94, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg with Reverend Francis O’Donnell and Pastor Dennis Doyle officiating. Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren.
Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
She was born April 19, 1918, in Warrensburg, MO, the daughter of Forest A. and Jesse B. (Martin) English.
She was united in marriage June 2, 1940, to Robert R. Stockton in Fayetteville, Mo. He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 1984. On May 3, 1986, she was united in marriage to Lee Thomas Sims in Warrensburg. He also preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1998.
Dorothy graduated from Farmer’s High School in 1935. She then attended Central Missouri State Teacher’s College and received her 60 hour certificate. At 19 Dorothy began her teaching career in Centerview, Mo. for $70 a month. She felt very fortunate to have a teaching position. Dorothy later earned a bachelor’s degree in 1950 and a master’s degree in 1958, both in Education, through many hours of summer school at CMSC.
Dorothy later taught first grade at Eminence Elementary, Versailles Elementary, Farmers Elementary, and then taught second grade elementary in Warrensburg for the next 17 years. In 1972 Dorothy became the principal of Ridgeview Elementary in Warrensburg and served her last 11 years of her teaching career in this position.
Community service was a long part of Dorothy’s life. She was actively involved with First Baptist Church of Warrensburg, and was a former director of the Senior Adult Sunday School Department for over 20 years, which included weekly visits to shut-ins and teaching a Bible study in three area nursing homes.
Music was an important part of Dorothy’s life. She enjoyed singing in choirs for over 70 years, and was a member of the Senior Adult Choir which presented a monthly program at three nursing homes.
Dorothy served the residents of the Warrensburg community in numerous ways and in 1997 was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce. She had leadership positions on the Warrensburg Christian Concerns Committee, the Christmas Store, Meals-On-Wheels, the Food Center, and the Arts, Books, and Crafts Club. She also served on the Board of Directors for the community group home for handicapped adults.
Summing up her career in education, Dorothy said, “For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I enjoyed my career immensely. I felt fortunate to have taught so long and to have been a part of the greatest profession in the world.”
Dorothy is survived by two daughters: Judy Yancey and husband Charles, of Holden, Mo.; Jackie Harmon and husband Lynn, of Warrensburg; son, Mark Stockton and wife Susan, of Warrensburg; one brother, Robert English, of Warrensburg; seven grandchildren, Jacob and Jarod Stockton, Monte Harmon, Craig Yancey, Shanna O’Donnell, Meridith Sauer, and Kim Yancey; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Nadine Minor and Florence Twohey; and three infant siblings.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Dorothy Stockton Sims Scholarship Fund at UCM and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
Marilyn E. Mickey–Clay
Marilyn E. Mickey–Clay, 81, of Holden, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at her home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at the First Christian Church in Holden. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A private burial will be in the Holden Cemetery under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, of Holden.
She was born Oct. 18, 1931 in Sweet Springs, Mo, the daughter of W.O. “Bud” and Mildred Eleanor (Vogelsmeir) Dillon. Marilyn graduated from Holden High School in 1949 and married Robert Edwin Mickey Sr. on Sept. 12, 1950, in Holden. Mr. Mickey preceded her in death on April 11, 1985. She was wed to John “Jack” Clay on Nov. 7, 1987, in Prairie Village, Kan. Mr. Clay died May 2, 2012.
Marilyn moved with her family from Sweet Springs to Holden in 1945. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Holden and served as church organist for 63 years. She was a homemaker and served as chairman of the board of directors of F & C Bank from 1985 until 2011. Since 2012, she has been chairman emeritus of the board. She was also past president of the Holden Christian Womens’ Fellowship, a district board member of the Disciples of Christ, past member of the Disciples of Christ Foundation, past president of the Holden Library Board, past president of GS Chapter of PEO, and past president of Holden Shakespeare Club.
Surviving her passing are one son, Robert E. Mickey Jr. (Linda), of Holden; two daughters, Ann Burns (John), of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Laurel Reed (Joel), of Austin, Texas; step-children, David Clay (Shawna), of Olathe, Kan., Scott Clay (Wendy), of DeSoto, Kan., and Cathy Clay-Martin, Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Rob, Kristen, and Max Mickey, John Dallas (Pauline), Joel Reed IV, Ryan Reed (Diana), and Catherine Reed-Jones (Doug); and one great-grandson, Will Dallas; six step-grandchildren, Taylor Clay, Susan Thompson, Andrew Clay (Sandra), Emily Nooteboom (Jarod), Madison Clay, Morgan Clay; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Carson and Calvin Thompson, Whitney and Sam Clay, Hannah, Avery, and Clay Nooteboom.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Edward Dillon, on May 23, 2000, and by a grandson, Joseph Michael Dallas, on April 22, 1996.

Margaret L. Draper Kirkpatrick
Margaret Lee Draper Kirkpatrick, 93, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Knob Noster, died surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at the Rose Estates in Overland Park, Kan.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Brother Charles Brant officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Knox, Larry Knox, Thomas Barnes, Brad Draper, Joe Zagar, Jim Knox, Rex Musick, and Dustin Draper. Honorary pallbearers will be Deborah Torson, John Knox, and Kathryn Krause.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Harry Jennings and Mary Fern Price Drinkwater.
She was united in marriage to William Gordon Draper. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1971. She later married Arthur Kirkpatrick. He preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2003.
Margaret retired from the Veterans Hospital in Topeka, Kan. after many years of service. She continued caring by volunteering at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kan. where she received an award for over 3000 hours of service.
Margaret is survived by her twin daughters, Carolyn Roberts and husband Cal, of Olathe, Kan., and Marilyn Knox, of Rocky Comfort, Mo.; two sons, William Harry Draper, and Larry Emery Draper and wife Vivian, all of Knob Noster; daughter, Sharon Hauser and husband Jerry, of Gold Canyon, Ariz. She will truly be missed by her five children, 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son in infancy.

Thelma Y. Marx
Thelma Y. Marx, 64, of Chilhowee, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Pastor Sean Benson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Carlyle, Mike Moon, Glenvil Sullins, Jim Tivis, Tony Shepard, Bob Jennings, and Darrel Mangan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Grainger and Craig Berkmyre.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1949, in Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Alexander and Marlene (James) Valdez.
On June 21, 1969, she was united in marriage to Joe Marx in Pueblo.
Thelma was a 1966 graduate of Pueblo Colorado High School and a homemaker who loved her family, her grandchildren and crocheting. Everyone who knew Thelma called her “Grandma” and she was a volunteer for the Chilhowee R-4 and Leeton R-10 School Districts. She was a member of the Harvest Fellowship Church in Warrensburg.
Thelma is survived by her husband Joe; one daughter, Cathy Berkmyre of Leeton; her mother, Marlene Collins of Pueblo, Colo.; two grandchildren, Dakota and Cheyenne Berkmyre, both of Leeton; one brother, Ron Valdez of Pueblo, Colo.; and one sister, Debbie Bratton of Pueblo, Colo.; and her ex son in-law, Craig Berkmyre of Thornton, Colo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grandchildren Education Fund, with checks made payable to Joe Marx, and can be left at the funeral home.
