Fannie L. Kelso
August 17, 1936 - January 11, 2013
Fannie Lou Kelso, 76 of Warrensburg, formerly of Centerview passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Western Missouri Medical Center.
Fannie was born August 17, 1936 in Versailles, Missouri, daughter of Thomas M. and Lester M. (Farris) Hibdon. She attended country school and graduated from Versailles High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Alan A. Kelso on March 25, 1955 in Versailles. The couple moved to Kansas City in 1963, where they raised their family. They moved to Warrensburg in 1983. Fannie was a league bowler at one time. She enjoyed going to auctions and traveling. Fannie was a devoted Chiefs and Royals Fan. She also volunteered at the Warrensburg Senior Center, having delivered hot meals for seven to eight years.
Survivors include her husband, Alan; three sons: Michael Kelso and wife, Lynnette of Phenix City, AL; Calvin Kelso and wife, Lynda of Escondido, CA and Richard Kelso of Warrensburg, MO; four grandchildren: Shelby Kelso of Ft. Benning, GA; Darby Blakey and husband, Nick of Jacksonville, NC; Katherine Kelso of Escondido, CA and Sarah Kelso of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, G. W. Hibdon and an infant son, Steven Gail Kelso.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Chaplain Erich Kurz of Crossroads Hospice officiating. Interment will follow in the Centerview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Kelso, Calvin Kelso, Richard Kelso, Shelby Kelso, James Liebl and Kyle Liebl.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Gerald Lee "Jerry" Hocker
MOBERLY, Mo. -- The funeral for Crest Ridge School Superintendent Gerald Lee "Jerry" Hocker was Tuesday afternoon here.
In his honor, the school dismissed early so faculty, staff and friends could attend the service at Million-Taylor Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Higbee City Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Boy Scouts of America or American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Hocker, 56, of Ashland, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born June 8, 1952 to James Irvin and Robert Jean Chism Hocker in Moberly.
Jerry was a graduate of Moberly High School and attended Moberly Junior College. He earned a B. A. in humanities from the University of Missouri and received a master's in education from William Woods College.
Jerry was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Ashland Masonic Lodge No. 156, AF & AM, and the Jacksonville O.E.S. He was a member of the Ashland Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Matthew T. Hocker, and a daughter, Elizabeth D. Hocker, both of Ashland; his father, James I. and Letha Hocker of Moberly; one brother, Thomas E. and Karen Hocker; two sisters, Rhonda S. Hocker and Rebecca J. Hocker, all of Moberly; a special friend, Pam Gordy; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
John Thomas McMeekin
MT. VERNON, MO -- John Thomas McMeekin, 81, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Warrensburg, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo., where he had resided since April 2007.
He was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Warrensburg, the son of Leslie A. and Lillian (Ford) McMeekin.
John lived most of his life in Warrensburg and Sedalia, graduating from Warrensburg High School in 1944 and from Central Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in education degree in 1956.
He entered the service in 1944, serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve and as a Merchant Marine in the Coast Guard. Returning to Warrensburg in 1947, he was associated with McMeekin Furniture Store.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. John was active in Boy Scout Troop 400, was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Tribe of the Mic-O-Say, and a scoutmaster.
John was also a charter member of the Warrensburg Jaycees and served as president. He was also on the board of Chamber of Commerce and Warrensburg Country Club and was president of the Warrensburg Development Corporation.
He belonged to Elks Lodge 673 for 57 years and also belonged to the George A. Whiteman American Legion Post 642, Moose Lodge, V.F.W., and Heart of America Chapter American Merchant Marine Veterans.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara McMeekin of Springfield; his son and daughter-in-law, Beau and Jenny McMeekin, and grandsons, David and Logan McMeekin, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters Dorothy McMeekin of Warrensburg and sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Pete Weitzel of Ballwin, Mo.; and three nephews, Steve, Mark and Dave Weitzel and families.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, the Rev. Dr. Sally Haynes officiating.
Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513 of Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 400 in Warrensburg or the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon and may be left at the funeral home.
Warren Mackey
WARRENSBURG, MO -- Warren Mackey, 98, of Warrensburg, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at the Ridgecrest Nursing Care Center.
He was born Dec. 28, 1909, in Clinton, Mo., the son of Jim and Elizabeth (Templeton) Mackey.
He married Leona M. Gray, Jan. 1, 1968.
Mr. Mackey was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a custodian for Central Missouri State University.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Mackey, of Chicago ; and a son, Robert Carter, of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Wayne Jackson, and a sister, Viola Mackey.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, the Rev. Joe Alexander officiating.
Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Clinton. Pallbearers are Earnest Collins, Herb Carter, Gilbert Forbush, Spencer Taylor, James Edward Turner and Charles Briscoe. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513 of Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home of Warrensburg and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Irene Josephine Beja
BLAIRSTOWN, MO -- Irene J. Beja, 78, of Blairstown, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at her residence.
Irene Josephine Meade was born June 26, 1930, in New York City, the daughter of Albert Edward Meade and Elizabeth Ann Clarkson Meade. She married Victor Beja in 1958 in New York City, where she resided for the majority of her life.
She had been an executive secretary for International Food & Fragrances for many years. In 2006, she moved to Blairstown to be closer to her family.
Survivors include two sisters, Rita Mahoney of East Stroudsburg, Penn., and Monica Wall of Blairstown, and several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; both parents; two sisters and one brother.
A private memorial service was held at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, with the Rev. Peter M. Savidge of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Holdin officiating.
There will be a private interment in the Wall Cemetery, located near Blairstown, at a later date.
Robert E. Maddux
HOLDEN, Mo. -- Robert E. Maddux, 71, of Holden, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Mo.
Robert was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Quick City, Mo., the son of Harry Maddux and Martha Akinson Maddux. He graduated from the Latour High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Shelton.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Former Knob Noster school employee Evelyn Sieg has died - Evelyn G. Sieg, 90, of Warrensburg, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the Western Missouri Medical Center.
